8 reviews for Inn Marin
I love this place when visiting the Marin area because it is one of the very nicer hotels that pet friendly (the charge a reasonable fee) and they have smoking rooms (also hard to find in uber-socialist Marin).
The venue is great. It is a freeway fronting hotel, but courtyard and pool are shielded from the freeway noise. There are plenty of places to lounge around outside of the rooms. The courtyard is dotted with hammocks and swings.
The TV's are modern LCD, and you can hook your own DVD player or camera into the TV. They have both wired and wireless network access.
The staff is friendly and helpful. Room service is reasonably placed, and the bar will let you take your drink back to the room.
The breakfast is pretty standard semi-hot. Most of the food is high carb cold foods (breads, bagels, pastries, ceral) the hot food are oatmeal and waffles. Hard boiled eggs are the only low carb option that I saw. You can take food from breakfast back to the room.
Pool is unheated, but the hot tub is heated and properly hot (not luke warm like in many places).
Only reason for 4 stars is that the "pet friendly" room I had was that the refrigerator didn't fit flush against the wall. The back of the frig had exposed wiring that a small pet (cat, puppy, ferret) could get to. We where able to use our luggage to block our ferrets from getting back there.
The prices at this time are reasonable - We paid $99.00 a night over New years. So I'd say the prices are moderate since a Motel 6 in this area costs $60.00 a night.
When I first arrived, my expectations where slightly deflated due to the location right next to the freeway. However, the room and general ambience of the site is very calm and relaxing. The staff at the front desk are very attentive and accomodating. I was was attending a conference for work and the front desk arranged for a special early morning drop off at the conference site for me by getting one of their workers to come in an hour earlier than normal.
The hotel is located in walking distance to a handful of good, but not fancy restaurants. I had a tasty dinner at The Garden Restaurant, which is about 5 minutes away walking distance.
There is a bowl of fresh, soft taffy at the front desk which is a nice touch! My room was very clean and was recently refurbished using eco-materials. Event though the hotel was upgraded a few years ago, it still has a somewhat institutional feel due to the painted brick buildings. I would stay here again because of the friendly staff and the relaxing atmosphere.
We stay here every time we are in town for a race at Infineon raceway. It's right off the freeways (both the 101 and the 37), and the hotel is one of the best in the area! it has the environment of a small boutique hotel, but the rooms feel much more like a studio apartment. There's free wireless all over the hotel grounds, and it's pretty fast as well. The staff is very helpful and accommodating.
One of the best features is the pool. It's deep and clean! I do a lot of traveling, and I can only take so many 4-foot-deep bathtubs that hotels these days call pools! Be careful, as a few-too-many canonballs might get some stray water on the restaurant patio nearby, so pick your cannonballs wisely.
Also, if you're a fan of taffy, there's always some at the front desk. It's pretty yummy!
overall, a great local hotel that makes your stay feel a bit more cozy and very unlike the corporate chain hotels nearby.
We used Inn Marin for our guests from out of town attending our wedding over 4th of July weekend. We set it up months ago and had all the info on our wedding website.
We called the 5 nearest hotels to the wedding location (Hacienda De Las Colinas in San Rafael - check my review for that spot!). Honestly all the prices quoted were about the same. We chose Inn Marin because Lora Salfi (Director of Catering) was the nicest person of all the hotels we spoke with.
We had about 30pple staying at Inn Marin. So many of them came up to us over the weekend (unsolicited) and told us what a wonderful hotel it was, how nice the staff was and how awesome the rooms were. We got more than a few compliments on the Continental Breakfast and the dining at Rickey's poolside.
We had a few special requests of the Inn Marin for our guests and to say they were met would be an understatement. They were far and away exceded. Lora even made some recommendations that we never thought of and the final touches made all the difference.
It may look like a "roadside Motel" but it's not. If you are looking for state of the art in "green" and "eco-friendly" rooms (bamboo flooring, linens washed in botanicals, etc.), cleanliness (all rooms are almost brand new), service and location (minutes from SF, Ferries, Napa, etc) then i suggest staying at Inn Marin or working with them on an event you may be planning! (Oh, and it's dog friendly!)
Thanks so much to Lora and all the staff at Inn Marin for helping make our special weekend even better!
Also had a venue here for another Trade Show. This place seems pretty small but they went through a renovation and they are making this place a lot nicer.
Its next to the freeway so the view isnt great but they have this open area behind the Inn that is nice and pretty quiet. Basically a lot of grass and benches. A good place to relax on those nice sunny days.
They do have a restaurant right next door, Rickys I believe. They had served us food for the trade show and it was pretty good. So they cant be a bad shot for dinner and I know on some days they do little outdoor band or music performances in the back.
The room we got for the trade show was a decent size, its good for small meetings and what not. We probably had about 11 booths there and it filled quite nicely. Very cozy place.
I've stayed at many different hotels around Marin and this is the best for the $$$. It's an old spanish-style building and it's a little old-fashioned, but it's a very charming place to stay. I lived here for a month while I waited for my home to become available and my stay was very comfortable. It has a nice hot tub and pool and even has a giant tree with really comfortable tree swings. There's also a modest gym with a decent treadmill and stairclimber.
The only problem with this place is the front desk staff. They were as rude and condescending to me as possible (even though I paid $3K to stay there for a month!).
The restaurant, Ricky's, is very nice and has a super-friendly staff.
Oh, and the best thing about this hotel is that it's EXTREMELY DOG FRIENDLY!
Extremely nice for the price. Newly renovated, very stylish interior. Room and bathroom were very clean. Grounds are very well manicured and clean. Staff was pretty nice. Complimentary breakfast was pretty much standard, good. Rickey's, the restaurant is very nice inside, but the food wasn't worth the price. We ordered desert and drinks, and for $28 bucks there was nothing there but melty ice cream, whip cream, and the drink so sweet I almost puked. Also they had a super cheesy jazz singer. Overall, go to the hotel, its great for the price, and easy to find. Just don't go to Rickey's.
I just stayed here Aug. 7-8. We had a room in the rear of the property and we couldn't hear any freeway noise so that is good. The bill was $281.84 for 2 nights for a simple room with 2 single beds!!! For $140 per night, it needs to be a little more special than this. That's why it gets 3 stars instead of 4. This is a remodeled off the freeway motel, not a hotel or anything special. There was no full-length mirror which is not cool because people often stay in hotels and motels when they have to attend some event that they have to dress nice for. No microwave. The woman who checked me in at the front desk did the absolute MINIMUM necessary to accomplish this simple task which is fine if I'm paying $50 per night. The phone rang while checking me in and she looked like she was going to have a panic attack. I did everything online so I basically already did her job for her. The room is nice, the place is nice, just not worth that much cash.
