Have had dinner here numerous times. The service is consistently good and the food is even better. Try the calimari steak with caper sauce it's really good.

I went to the INN for a couple of drinks and a friend showed up and it was his 21st birthday the owners and main bartender stayed at least 3 hours past what they were going to so we could celebrate! We had the entire bar to ourselves, got to play beer pong, and have an amazing memorable night. I cannot thank the owners and their bar tender enough for what they did for us tonight; it truly made my friends 21st birthday a memorable one...These people are the definition of what a small town is supposed to mean, and I love it! I would choose to go there any day over ANY of the other bars in Hollister/Tres Pinos

I've been to the Tres Pinos Inn 3 or 4 times in the past few years and it's always been great. My last visit was 09/18/10 to celebrate my parents 49th wedding anniversary.
Tres Pinos is a town of about 500 just south of Hollister. it literally pops up right after the blue highway sign that says "no service for next 76 miles."
When I made the reservation, the manager made sure to ask if this was a special occasion. He suggested a bottle of champagne for the table and when we got there it was chilling in a bucket.
The decor is like a fishing lodge, complete with a wicker creel (fishing basket) that holds the bread. Service was impeccable. Our waiter was cordial, respectul, attentive and well versed of the menu choices. The bread and water were refilled regularly by an equally attentive and pleasant support staff.
Everything is a la carte. The menu is American - italian. Steak, calamari (with a to-die-for lemon caper sauce), fish, chicken, lamb and a few specials. The appetizers are top notch. We had New Zealand lamb chops and they were marinated to perfection. They were gone in no time. Then soup or salad - all freshly made and delicious. Two of our group had the wild boar special, which was tender and flavorful. Everyone was pleased with what they ordered.
Even though we were stuffed everyone chose a desert and our coffee was french press. A great ending to a meal.
Tres Pinos has a full bar and a great wine selection with many local choices from Hollister and South Santa Clara Valley.
It's a bit of a trip, but the ride is peacefull. Once you exit highway 101, you are surrounded by miles and miles of farmland and golden brown California hills. A great place for a romantic dinner or a large gathering of friends. The staff at Tres Pinos will treat everyone with class and style. -

There are so many nice things to say about Mike & Inn at Tres Pinos, I don't know where to begin, I could be on here all day!
Inn at Tres Pinos catered our rehearsal dinner & wedding (6.11.11) at Paicines Ranch in Hollister. One of the most important things to us on our wedding day was the food we were serving. I cannot say ENOUGH about how amazing they were. It was a pleasure to work with Mike ( and his wonderful wife Mary) over the year on menu and pricing details. Mike was patient and helpful and worked with us on every little detail so that we were happy.
When my family & i would go visit Paicines Ranch for walk throughs before the wedding, we'd stop in at the restaurant for dinner. The meals were perfect every time (the bread and oil on the tables is so yummy, had that at the wedding too!) Mike, Mary & the bartender at the front and all of the staff were so welcoming and friendly. They made us feel like family every time.
The rehearsal dinner took place in the back house behind the restaurant. Not only is the setting great-beautiful front porch and back yard with bar tables and a fire pit and twinkly lights but inside was set up perfectly with round tables and food stations. (We had about 40 people) There is even a big screen tv where we showed a slide show. The staff was so helpful and nothing but sweet. Not only was the food fresh and delicious (puff pastry wrapped chicken with a creamy pesto sauce anyone??? Heaven!) but the way they presented everything was just right.
The wedding day was perfect and Inn at Tres Pinos was a huge part in making it that way. We still have guests telling us how much they loved the food and that they went back for seconds and THIRDS! Hearing "Megan, BEST wedding food EVER!!" was like music to my ears:) We could not have asked for a better response. Fresh, amazing heirloom tomato salad, the tenderest most perfectly seasoned chicken, perfect juicy skirt steak... I could go on and on. Once again Mike, Mary and their whole staff were so well organized and helpful and really put the work and planning into making the day run smoothly.
Once again I could go on and on... but clearly you see, I love this place! I cant wait to come back for our anniversary dinners and I am pretty sure my mom is already dreaming up a 60th b-day bash with Tres Pinos catering! Thank you Inn at Tres Pinos!! 5+ stars... -

Don't blink or you will miss the town! Great restaurant and bar, friendly staff and locals. Truly a place where they know your name! Full bar with a nice selection of local wines.
The entrees are a bit pricey but truthfully I think that there is no other way to subsidize a classy, upscale restaurant in a one horse town - the food and the atmosphere are worth the extra expense. -

Stopped here for dinner on our way to go camp at the Pinnacles. I looked at the menu and was hesitant because it was pricier than I expected but uh. .WORTH EVERY PENNY. The Six Shooter of Bullets are amazing. You know that deep fried, over-processed, frozen shit they serve at dive bars and TGIFridays and other questionable places like that that is called a jalapeno popper? Those are LIES!! The Inn has the TRUE jalapeno popper.. Seriously you have to order these. Amazing. And the blue cheese dipping sauce -- it's real and fresh and delicious.
Excellent service, my water glass was constantly filled, waiter was nice, bathrooms are clean and happy, good wine selection. I regret that I wasn't hungry enough to eat a full meal here, but I'm sure I'll return.
Edit: I did return one year later, and everything was just as awesome as it was before. -

I came here with my Mom for thanksgiving dinner. After an absolutely PERFECT dinner, we paid and left...and as we got to the car, the owner, Mike, came running out. He just wanted to tell us good night.
This is small-town hospitality meets big city quality.
If you are in Hollister...hell, if you are within 20 miles of Hollister, you've GOT to stop at the Inn. Not only is the food freaking brilliant, but the portions are big, the service is amazing, and the bar is stocked. -

We used to stop here on our way to hang gliding lessons. The place feels comfy, friendly atmosphere, a menu offers a big selection of dishes for hungry ones and not so mush.
I was really happy with that enormous bagel w/cream cheese and raisins, walnuts which I didn't want to change for something else. And my latest pick was surprisingly disappointing! Fruit Biscuit. came with tasteless biscuit and a bunch of soggy, previously frozen blueberries.(( There was about 4 spoons of whipped cream, but I don't eat it.
Previous times my husband had a BLT, which was veeery good as he said. This time his omelet just disappeared from a plate in a minute.
Overall, I would recommend this place.Comment from mike h. of Inn At Tres Pinos 6/14/2011

This is the best place to eat in San Benito County with 2nd place a far cry from the food here.
This is an expensive place to eat but well worth the price. The restaurant is often dimly lit with candles at each table and dinners always come with homeade bread and a olive oil vinegar mix for dipping. Of the 4-5 entrees I have tried over the years they were all delicious. All the pastas have great sauce and the seasonal seafood is fantastic. The steaks have always been excellent as well while the wine selection is one of the best in the area.
There is a full service bar as well if you want to throw a few back and this is really the only classy joint in the area.
About 15 minutes out of Hollister in the one cow town of Tres Pinos this place is worth the drive and the money if you got a few bucks and really want to treat yourself.
This is the only restaurant in San Benito County getting 5 stars from me.
They now offer 3 course meals for about 60 bucks as well.
All in all if your looking for the best restaurant in town and you haven't been here, this is the best the area has to offer without a question. -

Ok, so being a local in the area i keep trying the Inn at Tres Pinos, however this last visit was the last straw. Multiple times I've gone to eat and have received sub-par food. The hospitality was good, the bartender that served us was very charming and helpful, as for our waiter he did pretty go too (nothing extraordinary considering this is a $$$ restaurant). The FOOD on the other hand was very disappointing. When you pay around $30 dollars a plate you expect everything to be cooked correctly and seasoned correctly. Neither occurred, the green beans were almost raw, the fish was over cooked, and the tomato beurre blanc was over salted. The pasta was cooked fine, thank god, and so were our sand-filled appetizer clams, big oops. As for the bread, next time Inn at Tres Pinos, don't bring us old bread. A very bad way to start off guest. Good thing you're the only "fine dinning" restaurant around the area or else i think you'd be closed by now. My suggestions, find a better cook, and DON'T skimp out on ingredients and quality.

On special holidays that day's menu is limited in its choices and is expensive. HOWEVER, their regular menu is full of good options and their food is great! The servers are personable. Nice atmosphere.

I just returned from a Memorial Day weekend dinner at the Inn at Tres Pinos. My companion and I arrived at 7:00 pm Sunday evening to a nearly empty establishment. We were greeted a lovely young woman with a pleasant demeanor who greeted us upon arrival. The bar was entirely empty and there were 3 occupied tables in the dining room. We were able to choose a table in what appeared to be an enclosed porch overlooking the golden hills across the valley. Unfortunately, after a few minutes, we realized that the acoustics allowed us to hear every word spoken at the other end of the space and vice-versa I assume.
We ordered a bottle of 2007 Ryan Vineyard Mt. Harlan Pinot Noir from the local winery, Calera, the Inn's last bottle ($70). It was a very nice pinot with a more fruit-forward character than most pinots I've tried. I started my meal with the "Organic Mixed Greens with sweet and spicy walnuts, goat cheese, and sundried cranberries served with a balsamic vinaigrette" ($8.00). The vinaigrette was a perfect balance of vinegar to oil. Most importantly, the greens were not drowned in dressing. The walnuts added great texture and flavor to the salad without being overly sweet though I would not say they added much in the way of spice. The cranberries were a nice addition, too.
I followed with the "Grilled Fillet of Wild Salmon served over melted leeks and topped with roasted red bell pepper and fresh herb chutney." ($22.00) The presentation was good with a nicely sized fillet of salmon, baby asparagus with match stick carrots, and a serving of linguini in an Alfredo-style sauce. The best thing on the plate was the generous portion of asparagus which were cooked leaving just enough tooth to be perfect. The "wild caught salmon" was an anemic color lacking the robust flavor I associate with truly wild salmon leaving the impression that it was actually farmed fish. Although the size of the fillet was more than adequate, it was dry. The bed of "melted leeks" was meager and certainly not "melted", a technique that would have brought out the natural sweetness of the leeks. Instead the few leeks that were on the plate constituting more of a garnish than a base for the fish were undercooked. The pasta side was a greasy, flavorless accompaniment.
For dessert, I order the Chocolate Mousse with Berries ($8.00). The mousse was dark, rich, and not too sweet. The raspberries were perfect with the smooth, chocolaty creaminess of the mousse. The mousse was a delightful finish to an otherwise mediocre meal.
The experience was a bit of a disappointment given the Inn's reputation. I doubt I will return. -

I moved from Hollister some years ago, but often go back to see friends. One place I love to visit is the Inn at Tres Pinos. I think I was there the day it opened, and whenever I go back the owner still remembers me.
This is what a fine restaurant should be.Thought goes into the menu, great preparation, great service, an owner who really is involved, and a cast of characters sitting at the bar.
Quantity of appetizers and main courses is ample (I can eat), wine list is very good, and parking is easy.
Well worth the drive, it's 6 miles South of Hollister -

Excellent food, excellent service. If possible request Patty or Brandon to be your server. You won't be disappointed. The beer selection is very limited. Try the Bullets as an appetizer, the BEST!

This place is amazing! I've been coming here since i was three. The level of service and the quality of the food can't be beat. This is one of the only places in the entire town of hollister worth going to.The wedge salad is amazing, the dressing is so blue cheesy and thick. And the chef is always changing the specials up so that the tiny town of tres pinos doesn't get tired of the same routine. If you ever find yourself within a 15 mile radius of this place, I would higly suggest going there. It's well worth the trip and completely satisfying.

I travel for my job, eat out frequently, and consider myself a "foodie". I also don't order food in restaurants that I can make myself. My husband and I come here often, and the food quality and service is always excellent; in fact, I've never had anything but a great meal here. It is the most expensive in the area, but there aren't any other restaurants of its caliber in the area. If this restaurant were located in San Jose (or any other big city), no one would think it expensive. The wine selection is mostly local and reasonably priced. My favorites on the menu are the mushroom soup, mixed green salad, calamari steak, the pesto-prepared lamb chops, and fish-of-the-day special. My husband thinks that Mike makes the best Long Island Iced Teas on the planet! I lived about five miles from the restaurant now, but the first time I ate here, I was shocked to see Cowboys in spurs, Wranglers, and cowboy hats in the same dining room with people who were "dressed for dinner". Anything goes here.
For a special occasion, when you a have a party of 8-10 people, reserve the wine room. The ambiance is phenomenal! -

Tres Pinos, CA
My wife and I live less than a mile and a half from this restaurant. When we sit at a window table we can see our well water tanks up on the hill to the south. And sitting over there at the next table is one of our neighbors, still in his work boots, and out in the bar is a good friend of ours with tractor dust all over him. It's that sort of place. The locals hangout here, quietly, and enjoy the food as much as the tourist who wanders in. And the food is superb! The wine selection is lengthy and excellent! Have a party of six or more? Then ask for the wine room. You'll dine with wine bottles stacked to the ceilings. The waitresses are friendly, the chef is a well-trained professional (who we all know), the bartender is friendlier than Sam. We've been coming here for years and will continue to do so. So stop by, you'll feel welcome, and you'll leave satisfied.

What can I say, I have lived here for twenty year's, no restaurant in the area can top the Inn. Mike and company do an incredible job at being consistently fantastic. The food is fresh and perfectly prepared. I have hosted dinner parties and private dinning in the wine room...they have always been perfect. Thanks Mike for all your hard work.... A loyal customer ...

This place was recommended at several of the wineries we visitied that day so we decided to give it a go. The town is charming and the building is even more-so but we all found the food to be way over-priced ($28 for a tiny seabass "special") with cold pasta and minimal wine glass pourings. Everyone in our group felt a bit nickle and dimed here, the waiter even charged more for a splash of cranbery juice!

This is by far the best restaurant in San Benito County. The atmosphere is warm and cozy yet elegant and they can somehow pull that off. The bartenders are the friendliest people and the servers and staff are all very professional and definitely know their stuff. The bar is very cozy and people are welcome to sit there and have their dinner served to them without getting a table in the dining room. The private wine room is definitely a special treat for special occasions. My favorite appetizer has to be the Jalapeno Bullets. They are made with fresh, gigantic jalapenos and stuffed with cheese and chorizo and then fried in a panko (that's my guess) coating and the jalapeno is crisp and delicious when you bite into it. If you like spicy food, this is a must! The salads are fresh and the dressings are delicious! The meats are perfect, the seafood is pretty good, and the pasta is outstanding! FETTUCINI is awesome! The service is outstanding! Everything on the menu is way above average also. I challenge you to have a bad meal here. I would not recommend this restaurant for children unless they are older. I would go here every night for dinner if I won the lottery as it is pricey for the area but well worth the money. Perfect first date place or romantic dinner location. They also have a new outdoor patio, although I don't think you can eat out there, but maybe have drinks?

We used to come here when I was in my teens for special occasions. My husband & I "rediscovered" the Inn at Tres Pinos on our anniversary this summer and now we'll be coming for all of our special dinners. It's a bit pricey for us for just an ordinary night out - but absolutely worth it when we can budget for it!
We took my mom for her B-day this week. By the way, they have a birthday club that helps to remind us about the place & gives a free entree to the B-day person. Awesome deal. Anyhow, we always go all out - apps, entrees & dessert. Jalapeno bullets - really good if you like spicy. They had a special Dungeoness crab cake with apples & curry sauce - this was the best crab cake we've ever had and I'm not exaggerating in the least. So delicate & flavorful. who would think of apple and curry to compliment !?!? yum, yum, yum. Mom had seafood pasta - always good, hubby had the steak special - done to perfection. I had the fish special - Char. Our waiter described it as something between trout and salmon in flavor - he was not wrong. it was delicate and just lovely. Char is my new favorite fish! Chocolate mousse & creme brulee for dessert -- both scrumptious! oh yeah, hubby had cheesecake & he was grinning from ear to ear. We waddled out completely happy! Can't wait for our next special occasion!
