This is my favorite place to stay.

Of course, I'm probably biased because the two times my fiancée (whom I proposed to at the Inn) have always been so happy to "get away from it all" that we're naturally in a state of euphoria when we get there.

The first time we stayed it was in the Forest View Cottage.  It was very quaint and had the steepest stairs I've ever seen in my life with the bedroom being on the 2nd floor.  The TV was indeed quite small, but I have to say that'd be like complaining about the internet access...you're in the middle of the White Mountains - GO OUTSIDE, read a book - for God's sake relax.

The 2nd time we stayed was in the Presidential Suite.  The room is spacious enough with a separate sitting room for reading/napping.  The best part is the bathroom which has a nice jet-tub with a steam-shower (that's THE BEST part.)

The staff here is absolutely top-notch.  They might not be classically trained like a NYC 5-star staff, but they are genuinely friendly and polite the way a wage-slave never could be.  Everything is high-touch and they absolutely want to make sure your stay is enjoyable for every moment.

I will agree with a previous reviewer that the massage wasn't anything special, but that's ok because it wasn't bad either.  Also, the prices were very reasonable.

The dinner - now this is for true foodies.  Yes you get 5+ courses and it is absolutely more about presentation, flavor combinations, wine pairings, etc. than volume.  This was actually our favorite part - truly enjoying our meals instead of wolfing them down clamoring for the next course.

For our engagement dinner I reserved the wine cellar (a table in it's own room) and it was a very nice, quiet, romantic evening - I couldn't have imagined anything better.

The best deal you can get is being part of the "Moose Club" and it looks like they've recently revamped their website and I can't find it anywhere so I'd recommend calling and asking if it's still available.

Happy Travels :)

My husband and I received a gift certificate to The Inn At Thorn Hill for a wedding gift and we went for a nice long ski weekend this past February.  When we arrived the staff was very friendly and attentive.  We stayed in the Tuckerman's suite and, at first glance, it seemed like perfection.  There was a sitting room and a bedroom with a glass encased gas fireplace separating the two rooms.  Very romantic!  The bathroom is the star of the show, huge jacuzzi tub and the bathroom itself was a big luxurious room.

If you scratch too far beneath the surface at this inn you are going to find its flaws.  Immediately after we checked in we went out for a day of skiing.  When we returned with all of our ski gear in tow we sort of felt like fish out of water.  It seemed that, during our visit anyway, that there was a bunch of non-skiers staying there.  They were all drinking tea in the sitting room and when we came clomping in our snow pants and with our ski boots over our shoulders, it was like the needle scratched across the record.  Crickets.

I was SO looking forward to a bath in the colossal tub.  I peeled off my ski pants and slid my self into the robe that was provided in the room.  *sniff* *sniff* Do I smell?  No it was the robe.  The robe smelled of BO.  I nearly barfed.  OK I am pretty forgiving.  I took the robe downstairs and exchanged it for another that was fine.  Onward.  Time to enjoy my bath.

The bath was AWESOME.

But then the door to our room wouldn't shut and we were afraid to leave since we had all of our things in there.  We went down to the lobby while they tried to fix it but when we returned it still wouldn't shut properly.  20 minutes or so of the facilities lady slamming the crap out of the door and it was finally fixed.

Another AWESOME bath.  The inn is really nice but there are major chinks in the armor.  Moving on to the spa.

My husband and I each had a hot stone massage and they were excellent.  The spa staff know what they are doing and the massages were top notch.  The spa was clean and soothing.

The restaurant is a whole 'nother story.  The food was good but by no means bowl you over amazing.  The menu was pretentious and the service was god-awful.  The table next to us waited so long for service that we offered them some of our bread.  Our waiter was great up until dessert when he was apparently abducted by aliens.  We waited for dessert for 20 minutes before we finally went looking for someone to at least give us the check.  We opted out of dinner for night number 2 and ate at the Shovel Handle.

In short there are awesome things about the IATH and there are really bad things.  Maybe we just caught them on an off day.  I'd go back and give it another go.

This review is in regard to the restaurant only, not the rooms.

We ate dinner here one evening during our stay in Jackson.  While it might be the nicest place to eat in town, I wonder if that's sort of a self-limiting compliment.  It's a pretty small town.

The food itself was okay; nothing remarkable.  However, they charged $30 for a piece of grouper that was perhaps 3 ounces.  What!?  And $8 for a sliver of creme brulee and some sorbet?  Seriously?  What?

I am agog.

The waitress also corrected my eating habits by telling me to eat my amuse bouche with my fork.  The amuse was a piece of salmon on a cracker.  But the waitress saying, "Oh honey, that's what that little fork is for" re-he-he-heally rubbed me the wrong way.  Food on a cracker = fingers.  Waitress = not telling someone how to eat.

I am agog, again.

Edit: Hmmm.  As to the response from the business owner, apparently they think we were guests at their hotel.  We were not.  We went to eat there because we had heard such good things about it.  We have eaten at fine dining restaurants all around the country, and in several other countries as well.  We are always looking for a gem.

This was the first restaurant I had ever been to where a server took it upon him- or herself to (incorrectly!) correct the way I ate.  Between that, the outrageous prices, and the carefully crafted non-apology from the owner that somehow seems to indicate a flaw on my own part for not appreciating fine cuisine (which is what we went there for), I'm downgrading a star.

I love visiting this inn, it is a wonderful relaxing retreat which allows me to unwind and destress from the fast pace of my day to day.  I have visited on 4 occasions and they were all fantastic.  The price of the rooms off season are affordable and come with full amenities including delicious food in the morning and evening.  The dining is all included and the chef on our last two visits was exceptional.  The portions aren't huge but you don't need a lot when it is so good.  So you enjoy a fine dining experience right below your well appointed room or you can order in if you are feeling like you want to enjoy some privacy.

The spa offers a full menu of service, I highly recommend the restore and revive package.  You will come away a new person.  The town of Jackson is lovely and if you enjoy winter sports the skiing is great with cross country trails right off the front porch of the inn.

If you want to get away and feel pampered this is the place to stay.

My husband and I have been here twice: once for our honeymoon and once this Thanksgiving.  We enjoyed our experience each time: the service is excellent and the rooms are clean and romantic.  We enjoyed the excellent hiking nearby.

If you go here, definitely get a room with a jacuzzi.  It was a great way to unwind every night.  Also make an appointment at the spa.  I have never been as relaxed at any of the drive-through places we have here in Boston as I was at the Inn's spa.

You must choose wisely from the menu (ie: the tuna was disappointing), but there are great dishes for even better prices.  My favorite item was the hamburger with lobster mayonnaise.

So, I never went to this Inn before it burned down and was re-built, but the resulting place is charming and the staff there are amazing. We went up for a weekend, starting on Friday night, which happened to be when they were holding one of their wine dinners. We were a bit apprehensive when we went down to dinner (business casual, not formal) and saw we were to be seated at tables of 8, and we were one of the youngest couples there. However, as soon as we sat down, the woman next to me said, "I just hate places that are snooty - don't worry, we have been to a couple of wine dinners here and this place is not like that at all." And she was right. We settled right in at the table and had a fantastic chat with all of the people there. The wines they presented were good, although I felt that a couple of the pairings by the chef were slightly off. The pastry chef is fantastic.

That being said, the food as a whole all weekend was very good, but not great. A few things stood out - the eggs florentine for breakfast, the tea cakes and lemon custard at tea, and the duck entree for dinner. What is nice is that, if you stay at the Inn, the breakfast, tea and a three-course dinner are included in your room rate. So, although it seems pricey, it actually works out fairly well. We paid extra for the wine dinner, and although the food doesn't particularly stand out in my mind, the overall experience was so fun that we'll probably go back at some point for another wine dinner. Plus, we then knew people by name in the Inn and had fun chatting with them throughout the weekend.

I did take time off to go to the spa, and it was amazing. I had signed up for a 60 minute massage, and the woman asked if she could do a few other things, free of charge. I told her she could do whatever she wanted, and she combined a massage, hot stones and mini-facial, and it was fantastic. I've never had a better massage, and she ended with a mantra - a calming and relaxing experience. I now know why people drive distances to see her.

All in all, the service was absolutely amazing, the room (we stayed in the Jefferson) was fantastic - gas fireplace, large jacuzzi tub, all new and very clean. The staff tended to every need, even as I just sat in the lounge doing work. The cross country ski trails go right past the front door. You can't beat this place!

I had my wedding reception here in 2008.  It was pricy but everything was great!  My friends to this day say it is the best wedding that they ever attended. Thanks to Hannah & Steve!!!  Hannah spent alot of time with me, was very easy to work with and had great suggestions - she was like a breath of sunshine!

The rooms were beautiful (I stayed in the Inn).  Great bathrooms, tubs, comfortable beds and linens.  The carriage house and cottages are a bit older but were still nice (we had to book the entire Inn so I got to see all the rooms).

We had food stations so people could eat what they wanted and sit where ever they chose.  The food was incredible.  I have never seen such a good job at  serving such a large group of people and have everything cooked to perfection.

They also made the wedding cake for me, it was to die for!!  Beautifully decorated and tasty (can't wait for my 1st year anniversary so I can eat some more).

The staff was wonderful.

We have been here a number of times for dinner or drinks/apps.  The food and service is always outstanding.  It is a bit pricy, but worth it.  We love to sit on the couches in front of the fireplace, sip wine and listen to the piano player.    They do have a great wine cellar.  Sunday breakfast is also great!  There is an outdoor deck where you can relax and watch the sunset with a drink and some appetizers, very romantic.

Our only complaint is that the inn owners never acknowledged us during the wedding planning or afterwards.  We have seen them on a number of occasions before and after the wedding (like at the post office, local store and walking the Jackson Loop) and we never even get a hello - we say hello and they look right through us like we aren't even there - very strange.  You'd think that after we'd spent that amount of money that they would attempt some pleasantries (they only book 1 wedding a month so it's not like they have hundreds of brides to remember! and we were having dinner there at least once a week, sometimes twice for several months before the wedding).  The staff does remember us (although Hannah, our wedding planner, sadly is no longer there) and is friendly.

My girlfriends and I chose the Thorn Hill for a girl's spa weekend trip.  Some of us stayed in a cabin, some in rooms at the inn.  All of us opted for the meal plan with our stay.  Check in was a breeze.  I shared one of the cabins with a friend.  The cabin was nice with an upstairs loft bedroom and a larger living room area with a daybed.  The cabin came with a DVD and VCR player along with a teeny tiny 10 inch tv sitting inside a huge tv cabinet -very Alice in Wonderland-like.  Dinner was a long, excrutiatingly drawn out process.  I'm all about enjoying the dining experience but....the portions were very tiny with more of a focus on the artisitc presentation on the plate.  3.5 hours start to finish with a very long wait between each course.  We did use the spa and I booked a 90 minute deep tissue massage (*extra fee for the deep tissue).  The spa waiting area was very tiny but pleasant.  After a brief consultation in the massage room, my masseuse told me she would give me a couple of moments to get comfortable on the table and return.  15 minutes later she finally came back and proceeded to chitchat throughout the massage.  I think she finally got the hint to stop gabbing when I was very slow to respond to her questions.  She delivered more of a swedish style massage than anything resembling deep tissue and I noticed my actual massage time was -15 minutes for the time I spent lying on the table waiting for her.  The massage she gave was nice but not extraordinary.  I'm not sure I would go back again to Thorn Hill.  While we all had a very nice time, it was all just ok and there are just too many other options in the area to check out to come back to just an okay place.
