It was 107 degrees outside and it was about the same inside our apartment. I live in a brick building apartment with bedroom facing downtown. It was so hot, the heat cracked my bedroom windows. We didn't have A/C and there's no way we would stay at our apartment for another day after few days of 100 degrees weather.

I surfed online and found the cheapest and most convenient hotel in Portland. Inn at the Convention Center and from all reviews that I read, I knew that this was going to be a dive hotel. It was divey, the carpet was so old, uninviting ugly paintings, creepy hallway with dim lights, table with broken leg.

There are too many less than three stars things to mention here. But they do have really nice and comfy King bed, clean bathroom, really cool A/C, Cable TV including MSNBC, and friendly staff members.

They said they have Wi-Fi, but it didn't work, and it's right by the Max track so you can feel vibration from Max passing by. I rather spent less than 65 bucks and deal with all these rather than staying at home and feel like baked chicken. Now, let's just hope we won't have another hellish hot day.

I have never been so happy to stay in such a shyt hole in my life! Yes, it was a horrible dive of a hotel, but it was 107 degrees outside and they had two competitive advantages over my worn-out mind: Air Conditioning and a cheap room.

The room itself had a broken table, dirty rugs, and I cut my little toe open on the shower drain, but who cares! As I looked down from the 4th floor on the oven-like asphalt below, I watched the poor souls shamble down the sidewalk - beaten, looking for some way out of the hell Portland had become.

But there was no way out, and I laughed callously at their suffering; I dreamed that night that I was a king - even though I was little more than the prince of a dunghill, at least I was a comfortable and cool prince of a dunghill.

I actually thought this was a pretty decent hotel given the $70-80 price range and the excellent location right next to the Max stop, just across the river from downtown.  Yes, the hotel is a little older, but after reading some of the reviews I was expecting much worse.  Imagine my surprise to walk into a HUGE room on the 4th floor, with one entire wall of sliding glass doors opening onto a beautiful view of the city skyline.  Seriously, ask for a room high up on the south side...not only will you get less noise from the Max train but with this view you will feel like you're staying at the Hilton.

I rented a bike during my stay and enjoyed the convenience of being so close to downtown...just bike across the steel bridge and you're there.  The front desk staff was extremely nice and helpful too.  The only thing is there's no wireless internet. But I would definitely stay here again.

If I could leave zero stars I would have.  Do not stay here if you want to check in and have a room for 24 hours.  We had to wait till 3pm!!!  Even then they were late because of some issue.  Then they came to our room three times to ask us if we were checking out and if the room was clean.  One of the times they just came in since they have keys.  Then I got a wake up call at 6:30 am when I never asked for one.  Very bad experience for $75 dollars.
