For the price, this place is not bad for a quick stay.

We got the king bed room and it was pretty clean for the most part.  Came with a tv, coffee maker (coffee included), table/chairs, and a mini fridge.  There was a ceiling fan also but we didn't need to use it since it's winter.  It was really cold at night though, so we did use the heater which worked really well- kept us warm!

Complimentary breakfast every morning.  This morning they served danish, bread/butter, boiled eggs, yogurt, orange/apple juice, hot coco, tea,  and coffee.

We had no issues at check in or out, so that was a plus.

However, my main concern is that the walls are REALLY THIN, and it gets pretty loud.  We could hear everything our neighbors were saying right outside our door- not very comfortable if you're looking for privacy.

Bid on priceline for a cheap hotel for the night and got Inn at Pasatiempo...DAMMIT.

The room was cleaned and the bathroom was stocked but having only a ceiling fan on over 90 degree days doesn't cut it. Yes, it was cute and their garden is well maintained, but avoid at all costs on all summer months or if you see a heatwave in the forecast.

It wasn't the end of the world staying there but I wished I had stayed at a Holiday Inn or Best Western.

Stayed at the Laurel Suite facing the garden, living room with fireplace, flat lcd TV and mini fridge, cofee maker and iPod doc ready stereo, french doors to the king bed room with a table by the window, the bath tub was jet powered which was nice.

Over all this was really great for just the girlfriend and I. Stayed up super late with the fireplace going and playing scrabble with a nice cold Stella =D

Did not eat at their restaurant, after looking through the high priced menu decided to go eat downtown instead. Their bar on the other hand was pretty good. Not too packed late afternoon.

This is my first time visiting yelp and I am so glad that it exists because I must vent  about the disgusting way my boyfriend and I were treated at the Inn at Pasatiempo.

After a lovely day of hiking at the Soquel demonstration forest and a cheap and cheerful dinner at the Santa Cruz Diner for my boyfriends birthday, my clutch burnt out on Hwy 17 past the Pasatiempo exit on our way back home to San Jose. The fact that it was eight in the evening and pitch black made it pretty scary not to mention that neither of us have cell phones! (yes we do exist).

After walking about a mile down 17 trying not to be road kill we were thankful to find the Inn at Pasatiempo so we walked up the over pass came in to the lobby and explained our situation to the first employee we could find since there was nobody manning the front desk. She paused for an uncomfortable minute looking at the phone sitting right in front of her and said for us to ask at the front desk.  We walked around still no one there so we entered the bar area next to the front desk and asked the bar tender lady the same question and we were met with the same cold uncomfortable pause and just as she was saying no, a wonderful chap at the bar named Denton offered to let us use his cell phone yay!!! my faith in humanity was restored!!!

While I was on the phone my boyfriend ordered a beer (big mistake) and I asked the bartender for the yellow pages to call for a tow and she complied. I guess after you buy a seven dollar beer they are half ass courteous to you.  I was so flustered over breaking down that it did not fully sink in until I safely got home how offended I was at the lack of common decency of the staff at the Inn.  Who ever is responsible for training the staff needs to have a meeting on common courtesy!!!

SHAME SHAME SHAME on you Pasatiempo Inn!!!!

WOW!!! What a gem, we loved this place, stayed here for a few nights and absolutely loved the courteous staff, the clenliness, the bar and restaurant staff were sduper nice and fun to hang out with too, and the food was really good! The central location was amazingly convenient, it was quite at night and the bed was comfy, the prices were GREAT!

We stayed at this hotel because of the package deal with the Pasatiempo Golf Club. I'm writing this for those who may consider it a good deal if traveling to the area for golf. In short: stay away....far away.  What you may save in a package you will pay for in hassle.

We should have known when we called for the reservation and it took the staff over 3 tries to get the reservation correct. Really, how hard is it to reserve three rooms for one night?

Then when we went to check in we were told that our room wouldn't be ready until 5PM - check in was at 3PM. What's worse, we had called for an early check in and were told that while they couldn't promise anything the hotel wasn't full and the didn't see a problem with an early arrival.

The room was dingy. Not 'covered with bedbugs and spiders' dirty but dingy - a dirty carpet, peeling paint and wallpaper, things that have obviously lived a life and should be rotated out of a room.  The phone was staticy and you couldn't hear the other party on the other end.  While there was a hairdryer, it lacked gusto.

Other posters have mentioned the stuffiness of the rooms and I concur.  I'm not sure that you need air conditioning in this part of California but the air was stale and while the (dusty) ceiling fan helped it was a tough night's sleep.

The continental breakfast was coffee and Costco danishes and a few containers of yogurt. We arrived 30 minutes before the end of breakfasts and most of it was picked over. We didn't see staff refresh the offerings, so if you want something to eat, go early.

I echo the other comments about the un-friendliness of staff. We asked that one of our rooms get a late checkout so that our group could shower after golf.  We were told that they could extend checkout by an hour but absolutely no longer. When reminded that we had to check in two hours late because they didn't have the room ready the management became verbally abusive and slammed the management door in our face.

Finally, there came the matter of the bill.  The bill that was presented to us was the wrong bill. I asked to see the registration slip that my husband signed and the rate on that slip didn't match the rate on our 'correct' bill (they overcharged). THEN to top it off they added golf charges after we left even though those were paid by a separate member of our party. Thankfully we saved the receipt and have disputed the charges with Visa after unsuccessfully trying to reach management by telephone.

Was there anything good about the place?  Hmmm....all I can offer is that the hot water was hot.

I would have rather stayed at a motel 8 then this horribly managed inn. The front desk staff was very nice so that was the only reason to give them any star at all but the day manager who said she has been there for 11 years was the worst! I witnessed her be rude to everyone in out party and we booked a block of rooms for a weeding at the Hollins house. You would think she would be a little more accommodating and was not. She even told the grooms mother that her room was not ready so she could use the lobby bathroom to get ready in.
    Also:
    Walls are thin
They do not process your payment fast at all
They hold $150 extra and do not explain it to you before you sign
It looks rundown in the rooms
Every time the door was shut to the rooms on either side of mine stuff fell from the ceiling.

I have told everyone that this Is a bed place to stay in less you are not planning to actually stay in the rooms.  It's not worth $170 a night.

Clean basic room.  A little bigger than your average motel room (we had a king). Motel is pretty old and kinda run down, but they keep the rooms clean and the furnishings are nice, so we were pretty happy. I was disappointed about the pool during our stay as I had planned to make use of it and was not told it was out of service. Apparently the Pool is closed in winter (front desk says it opens in April as it is unheated).

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: The rooms lack air conditioning and only two windows in front.  We stayed in the winter, and in the middle of the day it got too warm in the room, we had to open the door for a while (not my favorite thing in a motel) to get some air. Might be really uncomfortable in warm weather.

Horrible.  Stayed here for one night with my wife and 2 kids and would not stay here again under almost any circumstance.  The hotel could be nice but the owners have let it go.

The Facts:  I priceline'd the hotel and got it for $60.  When I called the hotel to ask for 2 beds I was advised it would be an additional $20.  There is a small fridge in the unit.  There isn't a hair dryer.  There isn't air conditioning.   The location is outside of Santa Cruz on Highway 17 and is a 10 minute car ride to get to the boardwalk.  There aren't any businesses close to the hotel except for the hotel restaurant and bar (In my opinion the hotel restaurant seemed very overpriced).  There is free wireless internet but it was very slow when we tried to use it.

The Good:    The front desk and cleaning staff were very nice and helpful.  Even though the hotel is about a 10 minute drive to the boardwalk I thought the location is nice.  It has alot of trees and was pretty quiet even with its proximity to Highway 17.  The beds were comfortable.  The shower was a good size.

The Bad:  Where do I start?

The room was visibly dirty.  The carpets were disgusting and need immediate replacement.  I didn't want to walk on it with my bare feet.

The room was very hot and stuffy.  After discovering there wasn't A/C I tried to get some fresh air in the room but it wouldn't cool down until about 3am when we had to open the window and hope for the best.  Our room was on the first floor and the window faces the parking lot  so opening the window wasn't the most secure thing to do but we couldn't take it anymore.  It also increased the noise level.

The only fan was a ceiling fan.  When it was turned on the highest 2 speeds it made a noise that made it impossible to sleep.  There was no exhaust fan/vent in the bathroom.

The wireless internet was extremely slow.

The pool had a rotten egg smell coming from the area.  I looked around to see if I could determine what was causing the smell but I couldn't figure it out.

The room had some 2 prong electrical outlets.  This is an issue if you're trying to charge modern devices that have 3 prongs.

Noise levels coming from the adjoining rooms and parking lot are pretty high.   The maintence crews started working early and were kinda noisy.

Not sure what else I can say about this.  It's unfortunate because the hotel really could be nice with a little updating.

I stayed here for two nights last weekend and had a lovely time.

The grounds were quite beautiful and the pool was heavenly. My room was cute, but the walls are thin and I had to listen to the couple next door going at it all night and again all morning, making some rather strange sounds. Bring ear plugs!

Overall, this is a good value and I would stay here again.

Do not stay here. We booked over 12 rooms fro a wedding weekend and were treated like garbage. The managers are extremely rude. The walls are very thin and you can hear everything. The rooms don't have air conditioning and are grungy and smell really bad. We were accused of making noise in our room that the night manager supposedly heard from around the corner when we were being completely quiet. When I complained to the manager about how rude she was I only got more rudeness and they did absolutely nothing to solve the problem. Not worth the over $100 a night we paid for it.

Booked our hotel room via Hotwire and were disappointed that it's really in the middle of nowhere.  But not peace and quiet middle of nowhere - right off the freeway.  Well, we got a good deal, and it was just one night, so whatever.  Our very first impression driving up was that this was going to be an outdated dive.  We were pleased to find that, though outdated, our room was quite clean and comfortable.  And with paper-thin walls.  I asked if we could move to a more private area where we didn't have to hear every tiny sound from our neighbors, but there was nothing available.  We were told that if things were too loud during designated quiet hours to let the front desk know.  Well, we weren't about to file a complaint about someone coughing next door, so we sucked it up.  The bed was comfortable, but the plastic layer underneath the sheet made for a clammy sleep.  Oh, and apparently garbage is collected loud and proud Monday mornings between 4:30 and 5:00am, so you needn't bother setting an alarm if you need to be up early.  The one detail that brought this crashing down to 1 star from 2 is the shower which we didn't use due to the dried blood on the floor.  Clearly nobody even bothered cleaning it.  When I mentioned upon checking out that we had to wash at the sink because of the blood stains, the woman said, "Oh, the rust?"  To which I replied, "No, blood. Like someone cut themselves and bled."  She nonchalantly replied, "Oh, okay.  I'll let them know."  As if this were commonplace.  I wouldn't be so surprised at this if I were paying $40/night, but for $80-$175 this is a little ridiculous.  And for a place that markets themselves as "an elegant and professional venue for hosting business meetings, special events, and weddings."  Weddings?  Are you serious?  I would be so, so embarrassed if this were the place I'd booked for my friends and family to stay.

I thought this inn was quite idyllic.

It was really easy to find since it is right off of the highway, there is plenty of parking, and the landscaping is lush and beautiful.  We stayed in a room that faced away from the highway and didn't hear any noise from the road at all.

The beds were comfortable and the room had a small fridge. There was almost no counter space though, in the room or the bathroom. The shower was nice, and the bathroom was clean. The inn isn't new, so there are definitely some signs of aging. We paid less than $80 a night though, so we were pleased with the value.  It also included a continental breakfast that wasn't very exciting, but there was juice and pastries so all was well.

I would stay here again for sure.

Stayed here during the week in June. Awful experience. Yes, walls are paper thin!! Heard:  maintenance crew trying to fix a pocket door for 25 minutes; Twin babies crying for 40 minutes; 3 couples ( neighbors) talking in broken English for an hour; Wood chipper at 8:30 am; Cleaning crew at 8 am. I would not stay here again. Rooms are open to the parking lot so you can hear every conversation! You can also hear anyone and everyone passing by no matter how quiet. It's a good place if all you wanna do is sleep at night with ear plugs. Not a good place to relax! Room was very clean. Carpet dirty but ok if you walk in flip flops. No AC. Fan ok but loud. I would've paid a little more to get peace and quiet.

We were visiting UC Santa Cruz for "Family Day" and visit my daughter. I found this hotel on Tripadvisor.

The university is probably a 10-15 minute drive to/from the hotel, right off of Hwy 17.

    - Standard size room with nice, high ceilings
    - (2) queen beds
    - No desk, sitting or dining area
    - Standard TV
    - Closet with iron board and iron
    - Beds are great - very comforatble
    - Pillows are kinda hard for my taste
    - No microwave oven,
    - Refrigerator w/coffee maker and supplies (not very good coffee though)

Overall, my stay was very good. The rooms have been remodeled within the last couple of years. There were a few details left unfinished, such as unpainted areas in the bathroom and unfinished tile. We paid approx $80/night which really isn't too bad for the area.

The hotel/motel is right next to Hwy 17, so yes, ask for a room towards the back and bring ear plugs regardless.

We didn't eat at the restaurant, but we did sample the continental breakfast on Saturday morning: boiled eggs, pastry (cheese, raspberry, etc), coffee, tea, yogurt. No continental on Sunday morning.

For a budget, but not (super low budget) hotel/motel this really isn't too bad.

I stayed here for the month of August 2010 during a relocation.  During the course of the month I switched rooms a few times and stayed in both their single bed and double bed configurations.
This location photographs well.  Decor is late 80's early 90's remodel.  A lot of repair and patches, but for the most part the place is not crumbling down.  It is relatively well maintained.
It does sit about 50 yards from Route 17, so there can be a little traffic noise at night.  Also, the western units are adjacent to the park and ride.  So if you're a light sleeper the car doors start slamming around 5:30am.  The quietest rooms face the pool.  I was there during a peak summer month and the pool was barely used. There was minimal noise from it.  My kids loved it by the way.  A good big shallow end for beginner swimmers.
The double queen rooms are a little tight.  Not much room to get around and no table or sideboard for convenience.  The fridge is nice and not too noisy, which I have run into at others motels in this price range. The rooms were clean, but the carpets were filthy.  Housekeeping did a great job of keeping the bathrooms clean.  Showers and tubs were hit or miss.  I have broad shoulders and could barely fit in some of the narrow tub/shower combinations.  Rooms that were shower only seemed fine.
This is a wedding destination, but the Inn does a great job of keeping the after-partys under control.  Nothing too wild or obnoxious.  It's quieter than the downtown motels with their beach party activity.
Rooms do not have air-conditioning, but there is a cieling fan in every room.  There is no cross ventilation.  We were there during a record heat wave and it was miserable for a few days, but we were able to cool the room down at night.
The continental breakfast is slim, but consistent.  Seriously, it's the same 5 items every morning.  The staff was friendly and down to earth and really did their best to help you out.  We had some room switch around madness during the heat wave because they were paving the parking lot.  It was bit of a pain, but they helped us work it out.  Check in time is not before 3:00pm.  They very rarely made exceptions to this.
Access to Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley is excellent and convenient.  Unless there is a traffic jam you are just minutes from downtown.
In short, it is nothing fancy and there are things you could complain about.  However, it's safe, convenient, comfortable and well priced.  A very good value as long as you're not expecting to be pampered.

This review isn't on the inn, but the bar. It isn't very easy to find because the sign in parallel to the street, so you have to look for the peachwood sign. I think the best word to describe it would be "chill". It's an early 90's looking bar, but a relaxing place to sit down, grab drinks and just have a good time.

The rooms did have an odd smell as many reviews stated.  I asked for a room in the courtyard (which is actually very small) and since non were available, they put me in a room they said have a more scenic view.  After reviewing my credit card charges, I noticed a few additional fees.  When I called, the manager was rude and said that I had a room that accommodated a pet and I was being  charged for that.  Not only did they stick me with this pet room charge, they also added a $100 "security charge" to my card.  When I tried to get this resolved, they said that "in time it would be reversed by my bank" it never happened.  Food was good, but the price was high so I expected it to be more than decent.  Overall, not a bad place, but the manager actually told me that if I was going to be rude, she would hang up on me! I was only upset because I ended up paying  $150 more than what was originally stated when I booked the room.
Obviously, they have a low budget for salaries and cannot afford competent people on staff...which can always be dangerous

Very Pleased with this hotel!  ASK for the "Manager's Special".  Great price, out the door including tax was under $80 per night!  Best room in the house w/ FIREPLACE is $139. Gotta Love it.  The location is 5 minutes drive to Santa Cruz Warf, Beach and the Boardwalk.  True there is nothing to walk to, OTHER than the GREAT RESTAURANT PEACHWOODS, GREAT BAR, with LIVE BAND on weekends, & MARTINIS & PORTERHOUSE STEAKS.  This place is a hidden GEM.  The rooms are basic, remodled, new furnishing and CATHEDRAL CEILINGS.  TIP FOR YOU:  Ask for rooms facing the courtyard.  They are really sweet looking at the pool and the grassy area where the garden is and it also faces the links golf course at PASATIEMPO GOLF COURSE.  By the way, there is ROOM SERVICE from the restaurant in the rooms and our room had a refrigerator too.  Check it out!

Grossss!  Stayed here for a friend's wedding last weekend.  The website makes this "hotel" look doable. Wrong!  It was more like a motel in my opinion.  It's located right off the highway, and you can hear traffic from the "beautiful gardens" they rave about at this place.  I was ready to check out the minute we got to our room.  It was the type of room where you don't want to take your shoes off, and you try not to touch anything.  I highly recommend you avoid this place!!!!  Even if there is a wedding here!  Stay at the Hampton Inn further down the road, you'll be happy you did.

overall - i think this place makes for very nice intimate wedding. as far as staying overnight however, their rooms aren't special.

    for weddings:
was here for a beautiful outdoor wedding. there were 200+ guests so there is no issues w/ space. they have a great patio area where you can hang out at between the ceremony and reception. only drawbacks i saw was the reception dining area. it's a little crammed for space, and the layout does not allow everyone for a good viewing. awesome venue nonetheless...

    for overnight stays:
this place was your typical inn. nothing too fancy here. seems like it needed a little renovation. and the walls are super thin. but i was super tired from a evening of drinking so i just passed out anyway...

The pictures when you view it online are beautiful.  It is right off the freeway and easy to find.  However, the only thing that was true about this place was the grounds, they were beautiful.  The room was a dump.  The sheets were clean and the bed was comfortable.  The carpet was disgusting, I wore slippers or socks the whole time.  Cobwebs were all over the ceilings even by the heater.  The electrical hookup for the heater and the vanity light was legal I am sure, however it could have been made to look nicer.  The bathroom had mold in the shower and the shower head definately needed to be replaced (it looked gross).   The walls are paperthin.  You can hear everything.  Would not recommend this place.

I called the reservation number given on the website to book a room that night for my girlfriends birthday.  No one answered the phone so I left a message requesting to get contacted regarding booking a room and asking questions about the room location.  Nearly twenty minutes later I still had not received a call back.  I again phoned the reservation number given and was able to get in touch with the front desk person (I assume though her attitude would suggest otherwise).

I mentioned that I had called earlier and requested a call back and still had not received one and at that point I immediately was given "attitude"  Amazing!

This woman should NOT be working the phones because she was what convinced me to book with the other hotel that I was considering along with Pasatiempo.  I was NOT rude to this woman, I may have sounded irritated at the lack of correspondence via phone from the front desk, but I was NOT rude to her.  No cursing, no insults period!

When I attempted to ask questions about the Hotel she was noticeably impatient.  I inquired about getting a room on the opposite side of the freeway to eliminate excess noise and she said she would not guarantee any availability?  She didn't even check!   Way to sell your product Pasatiempo

After talking to her there was no way in H*ll I would have booked a room there that night and risked such rude customer service while "treating" my girlfriend on her birthday!  I do not expect to be treated like royalty but I also do not expect to be treated like a nuisance rather than a paying customer.  Imagine what it would have been like if I had rented the room and had to deal with that kind of attitude the whole stay.

By the way, this conversation took place around 10:40 am on Thursday the 28th of January 2010 so management can reference the front desk shift schedule because I was wayyyy too turned off of this place to even ask who she was.......she probably would have given me a false name anyway.

The establishment looks great on the website, but so far my experience with the place is that it has terrible customer service!

To the Pasatiempo: You would have had my business AND my money if it were not for the employee who answered your phone...period!

the hotel itself is great for the price and the staff was great except for vickie the gm i got over charged and called to resolve the problem and she asked i fax her a copy of my bank statement which i find a bit ridiculous and refused to credit my account she then flipped out and continued arguing with me i told her i was going to dispute it with my credit card she then hung up on me so i called back and asked what was wrong with her she continued to argue would not resolve and refused to look in the computer to even see why i was over charged then told me she was done talking to me and hung up again i have stayed at quite a few hotels and i have never experienced anything like this especially since we spent over $500 there that week will never ever go back

quaint and rustic...a quiet little place to stay for a few days while visiting santa cruz.  though not as idyllic as the pictures would impart, what place really is?  the inn is a few minutes outside the city, but not a distance that would cause any type or inconvenience unless your goal is to over look the ocean.  but as long as you're not looking for a chic, remodeled establishment, you'll do just fine at the inn.

Stayed here when I got married in Santa Cruz as did many friends and family, though we did not have the wedding on site.  The Inn is easy to get to (right off the highway), plenty of parking, has a pool, friendly staff, semi-spacious rooms, and even a computer guests can use for no fee.  A few drawbacks were that it was friggin hot in July and there's no A/C (though a few rooms had ceiling fans), it's not within walking distance to anything (except a long walk to the golf course), and it's a bit overpriced for the location.  There was a wedding at the Inn while we were there - it was a pretty setting with a flowery gazebo and patio that overlooked the ceremony, but from that ceremony spot you can also see people lounging at the pool and people walking around the hotel grounds.
