Everyone describe this place as "funky" and...well they were right!  Think "amenities of an extended stay" hotel meets modern times.   This place has a lot to offer, and everything is included in the room rate.

I booked with points so I don't know our rate really, but the place was on par with other places.  We got a premium room (#210), which wasn't much more $$ than the regular.   The full size kitchen had granite counter tops, dishwasher, refrigerator with ice maker, toaster, coffee maker, full size range/oven, a bar area with stools.  The cabinets are stocked with everything you might need: dishes, pots/pans, silverware, glasses, etc.

The room was equipped with a giant 42" wall mounted flat panel TV, which was on a swing arm mount so we could optimally move it to see from where we were sitting.  Though totally unnecessary, to the left of the bed there was yet another 32" flat panel TV on a swing arm mount.  Both were hooked up to the standard Lodgenet hotel TV and one remote could control both ...so you could watch the same thing on both or have two different things on.  (No HD programming though)

The hotel has free wifi, and it was reasonably fast.  The power outlets are not conveniently located, though.

The bathroom products smelled nice.. Though they're "made in china," which kinda makes me hope there aren't odd chemicals alongside lead paint. :]

The building seemed like it was a cheaply made condo building they couldn't sell, or perhaps was originally intended to be an apartment building.  The "cheaply made" part plays into it being a bit loud.  The floors themselves aren't concrete like most hotels would be.  I could hear the people above us walking around. Also, as I was walking around there were literally spots where I felt the floor bounce when i walked on them.  The walls seemed thin but noise from other rooms wasn't an issue.  We were facing the street on the second floor, and though we heard the street car as it went by it wasn't noticeable either.

The hotel is in a great location!  Lots and lots of restaurants and shops are all within walking distance.  The street car runs downtown and other places and the stop is right outside the door.  If you're wanting a great coffee shop, Anna Banana's is literally 10' from their lobby door (their parking actually surrounds it).  One of the best coffee shops I've ever been to, lots of character and great drinks.  As far as restaurants within close walking distance, you could eat somewhere different for three weeks and not run out.

The included breakfast was your standard continental mostly processed food.  Oddly I didn't see coffee served, though I didn't want it anyway and there was some in the room if we did.  The lady who was attending to the breakfast was coughing as she was dealing with all of the food (she was coughing into her hand, which contained packets of peanut butter she was moving around?)--a bit gross.  The one standout from breakfast were the bagels...they were really good.

Parking is free, and their lot has a decent amount of parking.

There's a very nice roof deck that has chairs/tables and a BBQ grill.

Great place.  Will definitely consider it on the next visit to Portland!  The parking alone makes it preferable to other hotels downtown.

The most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept in.  Very clean, large rooms.  Reliable free WIFI.  OK breakfast bar, nice staff, located super conveniently on 21st and right on the street car.  Kid friendly.  Nice kitchen, albeit a little understocked.

For ventilation, take a room on the second floor, back side so you can leave the door patio door open.  The front side has too much street noise, the first floor is accessible from the street (not secure).

Fantastic place to stay! It was a treat from start to finish. Centrally located, friendly staff, and fabulous suites - we had a full kitchen, a private patio, and there were bowls of candy everywhere. Complimentary streetcar passes are available at the front desk, and we rode it everywhere. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone, and would stay here again in a heartbeat!

It's been about a year since I was last at the Inn at Northrup Station and two noticeable changes have occured since:

1.  The TVs have been replaced with large, flat-screened TVs.  The one above the desk actually kind of swamps the wall (and the desk, and everything else around it), but it's nice to see it clearly from the sofa...

2.  There was a notice stating that HDTV is incoming.  This probably goes hand in hand with the large, flat-screened TVs and it's very much appreciated.

3.  The alarm clocks have been "replaced" with iHomes.  As an owner of an iTouch, seeing the iHome just about made me pee my pants with joy.  I could play my own music!  I could recharge my iTouch!  If I'd known this, I wouldn't have packed my little charger.  Not that it takes up tons of room, but you know...every bit counts.

4.  The bagels have improved big time.  They're using a new bagel provider (I don't remember the name off the top of my head) and they were moist, chewy, non-crumbly, and flavorful.  YAY!

I look forward to coming back in another year or so (ideally sooner) and seeing what other changes occur...

Super cute place right near the 21st and 23rd Street restaurant districts. It is painted in colors like Pepto Bismol pink, Linda Blair in the Exorcist heading spinning vomit green, and garish dark lavender. The furniture is really cute and colorful and the suite we are in has a stove, oven, full sized fridge, dishwasher, pots and pans, everything, it is great! We are only here for the weekend but would be even better for a long stay because you could save money by staying in and cooking.

The water pressure is a little weak in the shower, and the towels are a bit scratchy, but it isn't going to be the death of me by any means. We forgot to bring toothpaste and they supplied with some for free, so that is another plus. They also have super cute free postcards if you ask for them.

The complimentary continental breakfast is sort of meh. The location is great, it is literally a three second walk from a streetcar stop!

The walls are thin though and our upstairs neighbor is stomping around as I write and you can clearly hear the most quiet conversation being held in the corridor. Funnily enough, despite this being a hip little boutique hotel, all the other guests we have seen have been really old people, sporting sports sweatshirts from local universities from where they live.

Overall, a super cute place, and I would recommend this to anyone!

I was a bit scared to stay here at first b/c I'm used to staying at places like the Kennedy School or White Eagle.
I thought I would be horrified by the trendiness of it all.
Turns out I loved it.
LOVED IT.

From the almost assaulting brightness of the walls and furniture to the super cute wise ass front desk guys to the fabulous location - I loved it.

I recommend staying here if you visit Portland.  For sure.

I stay here whenever I'm in Portland.  The Inn at Northrup Station is in the fun NW 23rd District, with great restaurants and cool shops all an easy and scenic stroll from the Inn.   Great bedding, nicely remodeled modern decor (every room is a suite) and full kitchens with granite slab countertops make it a pleasure to stay in this boutique hotel!

Fun, playful atmosphere with spacious rooms for a reasonable price!

what else can you ask for?
The fam bam and I stayed there just one night [planned on 2, but the floods kept us from doing so]. Front desk wasn't rude at all, just neutral...sort of like they didn't care to go out of their way to make you happy, but who cares?

What's more important is that the rooms were very tastefully decorated, themed with the rest of the vibrant, happy-go-lucky atmosphere. We had the two double beds with an additional little living room area and a kitchen counter with fridge.

Great location. Literally right next to the Streetcar. I had no noise complaints. It's just on the outskirts of the restaurant row area, right around the corner from Paley's and 2-3 blocks from the rest. Not the place if your looking for downtown, but an excellent spot to get to know the rest of Portland, which I find more interesting anywho.

Oh, plentiful continental breakfast...snagged like 7 Nutrigrain bars.

You really can't beat the location of this place. If you want to get to know the best parts of Portland, this place is centrally located to bars, shops and...um...more shops?

The rooms are fabulous. It's sad in a way because our hotel room was larger than our apartment! Sheesh! The kitchen is fully equiped with all the pots, pans, plates, glasses, basically everything you need.

I especially enjoyed the weird office chair...

Anyway. Patios too! You can look out on the street and watch people or trams, or wave at the folks at the apartment building across the street.

Get to breakfast early, because it's gone before you know it! You can have cereal, bagels, pastries, coffee, oj, tea, it's a great selection of items!

Who doesn't love a hotel with candy at it's front desk and reasonable rates?  A great spot to send out of town guests if you can't host them in your studio apartments.  Many units come with kitchens for longer stays, and cute balconies.  Has a distinctly modern feel and sometimes the bright colors get to be a bit much, but the competent staff in their purple vests are fairly soothing.

Good continental breakfast as well, ample parking and just off of 21st.

Loved this place! I picked this location for a weekend in Portland because of the reviews from my fellow Yelp-ers. You did not steer me wrong.  Fun and helpful staff and a nice departure from the chain hotels.

The best way I could describe it to others was "colorful - like my personality", the candy was fun and addictive, the rooms were enjoyable. They have clock radios with iPod plugs which was a nice touch. Beds were comfortable and the soap in the bathroom had a little street car on it. LOVE IT!

Highly recommend this place to anyone coming to Portland.

I LOVE IT! Very cool, very hip, very family friendly. We got a great room with double beds. It had a loaded kitchenette. The room was clean and pleasant. We did hear the street car but didn't mind it, by the second night we didn't notice them anymore.

We also enjoyed the complimentary continental breakfast. Make your own waffles, yum. That was kinda fun.

The best part:..... We walked to all our restaurants!!!

Terrific weekend.

I feel way too hip for my pants!

Funkified green carpet, neon orange bed with alice-in-wonderlandish headframe. Nintendo 64 on demand (especially fun after a night at Bridgeport brewery)

freaking fluffy pillows! yay, and not too much or any noise billowing through the walls from el neighborinos like some other boring hotel units.

this would be my ultimate dream apartment.  I would love to come again and invite everyone for a room party!

I really dig this little boutique hotel - it's sort of off the beaten path, but on within walking distance of the Pearl, great restaurants on 23rd and, as the name might suggest, easy access to the street car.  It is a very quiet location, which I loved since I had the toddler with when I stayed.

The first thing you will notice is the color - lots and lots of color.  Looks like mayhaps Dee Dee Rainbow might have blown up in here.  But it works.   The lobby is full of large "flower" arrangements consisting of Blow Pops planted in Starbursts.  Kids are going to love this place.

Some of the amenities that one would appreciate:

1.  Free breakfast which includes Tillamook Yogurt, cereal, fruit, bagels, toast and pasties.
2.  Free parking.
3.  Roof top access with a great big BBQ available for everyone.
4.  Every room is a suite - full kitchen and tools included.
5.  Data ports  and WiFi
6.  Business center and the option to have a fax in room.
7.  Two televisions
8.  At least two telephones  in each room.

If you have to be in town for business or just want to do some tax free shopping, I would recommend Northrup Station.   If you can stomach the color palate (honestly it would probably drive me crazy for more than a couple of days, but can have a cheering effect for sure), the rates are right and the location and amenities will close the deal.

First time staying at a boutique hotel and I must say, it was absolutely fun.

The decor reminds me of the Jetsons with it's funky designs and vibrant colors. Every room is basically a suite with a kitchen (stocked with utensils, fridge, oven and stove), patio, giant flat screen tv, couches, and most importantly, a comfy bed.

The staff was very friendly.  They patiently helped us with our Wi-fi issues. Did I mention it's free?

Among other things free, there's complimentary continental breakfast every morning (the make your own waffles is a hit), and PARKING. If you don't know, parking in Portland is expensive and most hotels don't offer free parking.

The hotel is located in Nob Hill, next to a street car (ticket vouchers are available at the front desk), and in walking distance to an array of restaurants and shops.

The only down side is the thin walls (at least on the first floor). You can hear all the doors slam and kids running down the halls in the morning.

Other than that, my stay was FABULOUS.

Recommended by a friend, this place worked great for my sister and me on a recent visit to Portland.

Colorful, cheerful decor, friendly staff, generous sized rooms with kitchenettes and small terraces, all in a quiet neighborhood that's very well-located -- and all at a very reasonable price.  (We paid $125 for a room with 2 queen beds.)

You can easily walk to many shops, bars and good restaurants located on the adjoining streets (see my review of Paley's Place, right next door and hie thee to it!).  The nearly-new Portland streetcar stops right out in front and the hotel gives you free tickets.  There's also free car parking in their lot (apparently somewhat rare at Portland hotels).

And they actually have a make-your-own-waffle set up at the breakfast buffet, which goes well beyond most "continental" breakfast arrays, offering bagels, muffins, scones, cereal, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs and fruit as well as the waffles.

My only caveat:  Whenever we asked for driving directions of the young staff, many admitted they don't have cars and so don't drive in the area.  So use Mapquest or a map instead!

It's also a bit surprising that a place that feels this up-to-date doesn't have a computer that guests can use, but I think they may assume people come here with their own.

We only saw 2 people with kids, but I think this place would work well for families given the multi-bed rooms, kitchenettes and breakfast.

I had my out of town guests stay at the Inn at Northrup Station during graduation weekend back in 2005. The location is superb ! You literally walk outside the front door and there is the streetcar stop. This hotel is a nice alternative to the pricey larger establishments downtown. Many more bonuses about this boutique hotel include very cool interior, location like I mentioned before, the price, courteous staff, plenty of parking. I would highly recommend this cute roof over your head if you need a place to stay in Portland.

Yes, the candy says it all!  It's eye candy and soul candy all wrapped up in a hotel!  It's not cheap, but for the same price as an uninspired old-world gaudy Marriott/Hilton or copycat trendy Starwood, you get so much more!  All the units are suites with fab-funky decor, full kitchens, free wifi, balconies or decks.  We loved relaxing/dining on our porch (even in the heat!)  You also can't beat the location, it is a lot less sterile than downtown and close to very good food (Wildwood, Paley's Place, Lucy's Table, Cafe Mingo, etc), shopping, movies, etc!

Ok, I am married and we have two sons age 9 & 7.  So, we are pretty much resigned to the fact that we need a larger-than-average size hotel room.  We do not live far from Portland and this is not our first trip but this was the first trip where we intentionally decided to not stay in downtown.  We wanted to get a sense of the city by staying in a neighborhood and I found really good reviews about the Inn at Northrup Station.
The hotel seems to be some type of older apartment complex converted to an all suite hotel; I think a kitchen/kitchenette is in each room.  It does come in handy but we only used the full sized refrigerator.
The "bad:"  (1) when we walked into our room, there was a weird smell and (2) there are two flat screen tvs but only one remote.  We called the front desk and notified them of the smell; a nice young woman came up to our room, confirmed the smell, and then started spraying our room.  The smell never really went away but oh well.  I confirmed with the front desk that there should be only one remote per two tvs.  I never really figured it out but no big deal.
The 'good:"  (1) great location, just a block away from the famous 23rd St./Ave. where the street is absolutley lined with wall to wall restaurants, cafes, and boutiques, (2) the room was large, (3) the complimentary continental buffet was definitely above average due to its make it yourself waffle station, Kettelman's Bagels, cold cereal, juices, fruit, coffee, & etc, (4) the complimentary passes for the Portland Streetcar and there is a station conveniently located abou 50 feet from the hotel, (5) the incredible Northwest neighborhood where the hotel is located, and (6) the staff is very knowledgeable and professional.
We will stay here again because the per night price is the same or just slightly higher than a downtown Portland hotel.

Had so much fun here!  Bold and bright primary colors abound.  Fun and funky furniture.  Free wi fi.  Conveniently located to trendy-first and trendy-third, plenty of off-street (free) parking, complimentary breakfast, balconies, and a really cool little roof deck that I plan to try out this summer when I stay there again.  It's right on the streetcar line if you want to ditch the car for the weekend.  Great job, Inn at Northrup Station!

I adore the colorful bright modern decor - super fun ambiance!  Our room was a lot bigger than either of us expected with a comfortable bed, couch, cozy chair, desk, fully equipped kitchen with breakfast bar..  exceeded our expectations and was a lovely retreat after walking around Portland during the day.  I would recommend this hotel to any of my friends or family popping in for a visit in Portland, OR.  How can you not love a hotel with gigantic jars of lollipops all over the place?

After three visits I can say without hesitation that the Inn at Northrup Station rocks. A funky, boutique hotel with free parking, free public transportation vouchers and free breakfast! The decor is rhip/retro-inspired. Every room has a kitchen. It is also right in the heart of the NW 23rd neighborhood. There are dozens of restaurants and shops nearby. It's walking distance to the Pearl District and downtown. The staff is helpful and friendly. My kids love this place mainly due to the giant jars of free candy in the lobby.

We were excited by the cheap hipness, but the room ended up being crampt with extremely low ceilings.  Perhaps we got the one bad room.  Staff/service was good, and the location was ideal with easy access to transportation and good neighborhood restaurants.  If you're visiting and not spending much time in the room, this is probably fine.
