My friends just got married here, and while we didn't stay overnight..definitely had the chance to see it as a venue and check out the mansion bedrooms (where they stayed).

While I have to agree that it's a little dusty & could use some updating, I thought it was really pretty and charming!

Maybe it was a different experience attending a wedding in the tented area/Mansion only (vs. staying in the rooms), but it was a great space!

The staff also seemed very nice, and even let 5+ people hang out in the lobby post-wedding but pre-train.

This place, she is a no-good.

They charge quaint B&B prices for a highway motel experience. Granted, I didn't stay in the "mansion" or in the other non-mansion rooms that had fireplaces, but they way they treat their motel rooms alone is reason enough for a 1-star review.

$185 a night for a room with a drop ceiling, old carpet, and 1978-era decor that Wife equated to her grandmother's basement. At least that comes with afternoon tea & cakes and a very modest breakfast buffet. But still. I'd rather be charged closer to $100 for this same skankiness, or pay $185 for a quaint, clean B&B with modern furnishings and an attentive staff.

The staff here are rather aloof, and the lobby is a joke. The first greeting you receive is the wall of stale moisture and mildew that just about bowls you over. The second greeting comes from the geriatric, decrepit, and shaggy dog that hasn't been bathed in quite a while and is wearing a big plastic cone on his neck to prevent him from scratching his oozing eye sore. The third comes from the rather aloof staff.

We did check out the mansion and, while it seems nice enough on the outside, it could still use an overhaul inside. The carpet upstairs had large stains that seemed at least a decade old.

I have to agree with Pamela.  The rooms need updating.   We're not talking expensive changes.  Their fabric on the canopy beds and the curtains need to be replaced.   The couch was bleached from the sun.   Contrasting nicely to contemporary hotels, our room was large and clean.  I noticed some rooms offered wood-burning fireplaces.

The Inn offers an outdoor pool, tennis courts, canoeing, and biking.   From housekeeping to the front desk and the servers in the restaurant, the customer service was great at every level.  I believe it may be the only hotel with water views.  A tasty breakfast was included in the cost of the stay.

The bill was $200. for 1 night, including the tax.  Visiting Mystic may be just as enjoyable - certainly less expensive - if you stayed at one of the national chains by the highway, but they can't offer the amenities or the location of the Inn.

It's time for a little capex, folks.

Everything in the room needed updating -- from the TV to the rug to the bed and the sinks. 30 seconds after I walked in, I found a large roach making its way across the bathroom floor. No fridge in the room. Nor do I think there was any window you could crack open in our room to get some outside air.

When was the last time _you_ saw a TV remote with only about 3 buttons?

The staff was friendly and the free breakfast was passable, if not spectacular or particularly healthy.

I didn't expect a lot given the moderate pricing. You shouldn't either.

I stayed at the Inn at Mystic for my friend's wedding.  Overall I had a great time here.  The rooms definitely have some charm but could use some updating.  The room I stayed in was pretty large with a king sized bed, couch and two chairs.  The bathroom was a bit small but all in all everything worked.  The TV was tiny for the room.  I think it was a 13 inch TV.  What was nice was the free wifi available so you could have a connection if you needed it.

The service was ok.  The one thing to keep in mind is that you can not check in until 3pm so make sure you plan for that accordingly.  Also be prepared to see a lot of wedding advertising and packages.  It's their specialty.

Oh yea, the free breakfast in the morning is nice.

They refurbed this place about 25 years ago and it is in need of a new one now.  The rooms used to be wonderful, especially the suites in the new section with the fireplaces and canopy beds.

Steve and I have fond memories of drinking too much champagne and almost drowning in the hot tub - ah-h-hhh, the sheer stupidity of young love.
