This is all about location, location, location! If you get an oceanfront room, you'll be set for the weekend. If you go budget and get a room facing the parking lot, you'll be awake most of the night hearing every passing truck in the middle of the night.
But the location is so fabulous that I had to let go of my tiny frustration of basically living in the parking lot for being able to walk down the beach every morning and evening. It is absolutely gorgeous there! If you stay here, get an ocean view room on 4th or 5th floor. Each room has different amenities so be sure to ask for specifics. For example, some rooms have two Queen size bed, some has one bed and a couch, some has tub and the others only shower. Some rooms do not have a microwave.
Staff is very friendly and breakfast delivered to your door every morning is a plus (though they can do a little better with variety...). Cookies in the lobby every evening too is cute.

"Get a room with an ocean view or stay someplace else." Such was the sage advice from a co-worker who is a regular here. When I first made my reservation, I got a good deal on a "Village View" room. After really thinking about it, I decided to splurge on the ocean view room and I have no regrets (at least until my Visa bill arrives). It was really cool to fall asleep at night listening to the surf.
I feel a little lame giving this place four stars after our amazing weekend stay, but there is a method to my madness.
If you look at the view from our balcony - ten stars
Location in Laguna Beach - ten stars (steps from the main beach and easy walking distance to amazing restaurants, etc.)
On-site parking - three stars (I did have to pay for it which I hate!)
Pool and spa - three stars (nice warm pool and separate more private spa. Nice, but not wow!)
Continental Breakfast - four + stars (heavy on the carb items, but good coffee, prompt service and the option to eat on your balcony with the amazing view)
Where the four star comes in is that this place isn't a luxury resort. It is a nice hotel with an amazing location, view and friendly staff. The room, and especially the bathroom, were worn around the edges and not plush or fancy.
I was looking at some of the fancy, schmancy resorts down in Dana Point, but chose this place because I really like downtown Laguna and wanted to be close to the action and to not have to deal with crowds, parking, etc. This is the most I've ever paid for a hotel, but it isn't as expensive as those other resorts.
All in all I was really pleased. I would recommend you request a room on a higher floor. The lower floors have outdoor tile corridors and ours was constantly being mopped the first few days. Cleanliness is nice, but it was a slip-n-fall waiting to happen and the constant presence of large yellow safety cones was just uck!
I liked having breakfast (which is included) on the balcony of my room, but if you don't have one of the good views, the fourth floor Pacific Terrace is gorgeous and you can eat up there. We also had the fun of watching pigeons attack our food trays in the hallways.
The pool and spa were nice in the evenings and not crowded at all. But they don't have the benefit of the view. They put cookies out at night and the front desk staff was friendly and met all of our needs.
One of the reasons I upgraded to a nicer room is that they were running a web special, so check their web site for discounts if you are thinking of staying here.

I took my husband to Laguna Beach for the weekend to celebrate his birthday and our 2 year anniversary and we stayed at the Inn at Laguna Beach. The hotel could not be in a better location, which is the primary reason I chose it. It is walking distance to downtown Laguna and it's also located right on the main beach. I let them know ahead of time we were celebrating a birthday and anniversary and they had a bottle of champagne waiting in our room which was very nice.
We stayed in an ocean front room which had a great view and we fell asleep to the roar of the waves every night. The room itself was fine, not great, but about what I would expect for an ocean view room in Laguna at the room rate we paid. The bathroom especially felt old and dingy and the screen doors to the balcony were off the track and just didn't work very well. The complimentary continental breakfast was a nice touch which you can enjoy on your private balcony if your room has one or you can have it on the rooftop deck. Parking was $14/night (annoying!), but in this location you will probably never need your car unless you take day trips to explore the surrounding areas so not having to worry about where to park was a plus.
I did a lot of research before choosing this hotel and there were some cautions that turned out to be very true. There is a public pathway that cuts right behind the hotel which has quite a bit of foot traffic on it. If you're in an ocean front room, I would recommend staying on the highest floor you can or the people can look directly into your room. It seems like the rooms on the Southern end of the hotel are more affected by the walkway. Also, there is quite a difference in room rate between the ocean view and village view rooms. It might be enticing to save money and go for the village view but DON'T DO IT! The rooms are practically in the parking lot and we were shocked at how much traffic there was, at all hours! I can only imagine how loud those rooms must be. I was grateful to have chosen the ocean view.
Overall it was a great weekend and I'm very glad that I chose this hotel. There seem to be several great hotels to choose from in Laguna but none will beat this location!
