The Inn is not a huge complex, but just have probably less than 50 rooms. But its location right there at the ocean front is perfect.

It would have been much nicer if I could stay for at least a couple of days, except that what brought me to Avila Beach was strictly business. There was a couple of jobs to be done the following morning within the area, which need to be completed as soon as possible, so I may be able to beat the Friday afternoon traffic driving back to LA, which is about 200 miles away.

The room had an exotic theme, with a jacuzzi, a fireplace and cabana beds. I used the jacuzzi after I came back from a stroll to the Avila Beach pier, which is just within short walking distance and had dinner at a nearby local restaurant.

The lobby also doubles as an art gallery, with some folk arts on display.

With that aside, after such a long drive, I didn't remember anything much, except the soothing sound of the ocean rushing to the shore, till I awaken when morning has broken...

I stayed here on my honeymoon in an ocean front room. It was the most relaxed I've been with my husband that I can remember.

The Inn is great for people who love quirky, artsy, lived-in places. By lived-in, I don't mean dirty..I just mean comfortable. It feels like home instead of feeling sterile.

Our room was really cute and it was so nice to leave the patio door open all night and listen to the ocean. During the day, we drove around to the neighboring towns, went to Hearst castle, etc..but we always came back to a clean room with new towels, a freshly made bed, etc.

If you order food in or bring back leftovers, you can keep them cold in the fridge in your room and then re-heat them. No dishes? No problem. Just go down to the lobby and ask them for some - they have a whole china cabinet full of real dishes and silverware for you to use. There's a dining room table there too, if you want to have dinner with your family. They have some couches and a large TV down there too, so you can chill down there if you're sick of your room.

Their rooftop hangout is awesome. There is enough room for several families to hang out at the same time. You can BBQ up here or just take a nap. Take the journals from the room you're in (you'll understand when you get there.) and go lay in a hammock up here and read them.

You are steps from the beach and can usually see some dolphins from the patio. (We bought a pair of binoculars to dolphin/people watch.) During the day, go wander around on the beach and enjoy the sunshine, then go down the street to Doc Brown's and get some cheesecake on a stick.

They have a computer/printer in the lobby for you to use to book reservations, pay bills, check email, etc. Once in awhile you have to wait for it, but usually you can get right in there. You can always get free tea/coffee/hot chocolate, popcorn and bottled water in the lobby too..and they stock these in your room as well.

Edward is a sweetheart and he knew who we were before we introduced ourselves. He's the one you want to talk to when you book your stay.

It may not be the Hilton, but that's exactly what is so wonderful about it. It's charming and unique.

(If you have any special needs, be sure to book a room as close to the downstairs as you can - this beauty only has stairs - I was pregnant when we hiked up to our 3rd floor room several times a day - exhausting, but it kept me from putting on weight while we were chowing down on everything in sight!)

You can have food delivered here, take it out on the balcony or the rooftop, light some candles and enjoy the company you're keeping at this wonderful Inn.

I didn't mind this place at all. This place was old and far from being a three, four or five star hotel. But for what it lacked in class, it made up for it with charm. Granted, nothing in our room matched (furniture, bedding, towels or wallpaper) and the room itself was rather dark, but this place had REAL keys. I can't remember the last time I stayed in a hotel that used real keys.

We had the noisiest neighbors staying directly above us. The housekeepers woke us up by speaking Spanish and laughing loudly in the laundry room, next door to our room. It's a good thing we didn't plan on sleeping in.

The staff here was really friendly and they offered free water, coffee, tea and microwave popcorn.

There was no pool, but you could throw rocks at the beach from the hotel balcony. Nice view of Avila Beach.

I LOVED this place. I guess I'm a little unique in that I don't require matchy-matchy bedding and key cards to feel happy in a hotel. This place was darling. I was road tripping with a friend who was on a budget so rather than get the oceanfront room I wanted, we split a family-style room (two beds, kitchenette, bathroom). It was totally fine, the sheets were BOMB, it was quiet, and I was happy. The roof deck is to DIE for. Best of all is the roof deck; so cool! I love anything Mediterannean/Mexican so it was right up my alley. The view from the roof deck of Avila Bay and the pier is awesome. Best of all was the small collection of gifts in the lobby.....I had been looking for a Virgin Mary statue and they had the PERFECT Guadalupe, so I told them I'd come back on my way back from LA to collect it, and I did. Edward, the proprietor, carried her with utmost gentleness to my car and didn't even ring me up for it until afterwards. Really cool 'family room,' too. Big ups to Inn at Avila, I'll be back!

This place was probably the biggest dumb I have ever seen. I absolutely can not believe someone saw charm in dirty unmatched rooms. My husband and I checked in and while my husband was parking the car I went to our room and was overwhelmed by the smell of gas. This was the first issue and then after looking around the room found the place just nasty for lack of a better word. My husband and I both knew if we stayed in the room we would probably never come out alive from the gas fumes. Needless to say the "host" came up smelled the room and offered to refund our money. Thank God for that and the fact that we drove a little further to the Apple Farm and had a lovely room including a fireplace for less than the "dump"! And guess what "the room had a key" and not a room card if that is important to you. So, if you drive up to this place go on because it's nasty!

on a whim the bf and i headed down to slo. i called the inn directly to see what they had to offer. their price beat kayak by $25.

edward was very friendly and helpful. he rattled off what the inn has to offer ie. a huge video library, steps from the beach, a hospitality room.

keep in mind this place is only a 2 star but it was decent. this is a review of the 1 dbl bed rm.  the appliances were older and worn but it looks like they are trying to update by putting in some new bath robes and towels. there was a metal "decorative" frame that was so not needed. but overall i would rather go back here than motel 6.

i peeked at the ocean view suites and they look like they've been more remodeled than the courtyard rooms. the reviews on tripadvisor said they are nice, nice enough for someones wed anniv.

If I can give this place a negative 5 rating, I would. We stayed there on a weekend and paid almost $200 a night. The room is a dump. The wall mounted old heater made the room smell like gas every time we tried turning it on. The door was constantly shaking and rattling everytime the wind blew or a car drives by. No room service, no room phone. Old furniture and appliances. Worst of all our room was on top of a parking space! No sound proofing whatsoever. We almost had a heart attack when a group of bikers parked their loud bikes in the middle of the night. It was so loud...we seriously thought the whole place was falling apart. Stay away if you can. I'd rather park my car in front of the beach and spend the night if I needed the ocean view.
