The food at Ink is best during the daytime. The Chicken Marsala made without flour (by request) is usually gluten-free. However, if you're on a gluten-free diet, be careful of eating at Ink late at night, because your food might end up contaminated.

I thought about giving Ink an extra star because its eggplant-colored booths matched the shoes I was wearing the other night for happy hour. But this isn't about me. It's about Ink.
They have a fun happy hour menu with all sorts of fruity flair. I went for my favorite: the mojito. It was served as it should: cool, crisp hint of lime, bright fresh of mint, and background of rum--icy cold. I could have easily slurped down a dozen, but don't worry, Mom. I did not.
That's because I didn't really feel like staying after I had the spinach and artichoke dip. I have had it before, and my memory of it was better. This experience was very bland. It was served with plain, white bread--not a buttery crusted baguette with a little crunch and flavor. No. Just plain white bread. It was bakery-style (meaning it wasn't Wonder), but it could have easily been Wonder bread in disguise. No good. Also, the portion was tiny. For $8, there was not enough to cover the amount of bread we were given. The dip itself lacked oomph. No hint of garlic or spice or even good ol' black pepper. It seemed to be mostly just mayo with some spinach and artichoke--maybe some lemon. Bummer.
I may return for the mojito, but next time, I'm ordering a different app.

I love Ink!!!!
I was told to go there by my friend who lived in midtown...and after eating there...I must admit that I'm a fan now. We got there around 9-ish...which I guess was a little early for them since it was still pretty empty.
That was good though, because it meant our group of 8 was seated right away. It took a little longer for our food and drinks to come out..but I assume that it was because there were 8 of us and they brought everything out together.
If there, I would try the chicken tacos...my absolute favorite!!
I took away 1 star though b/c as it was getting busier..the server kept shooting us looks to try and get us out of there.
There are two kinds of restaurants: the first is the kind that is yummy and delicious all the time; the second is the kind that is yummy because it is the only thing open and you're really drunk. Yes, it seems that your tummy can get the equivalent of beer goggles and convince itself things are better than they actually are.
Ink falls into the latter category of restaurants. As such, I appreciate it because it is one of the few choices available to a drunk person late at night.
It's not that the food is horrific here; it's just not that good. I did rather like the steak salad, but I think that had more to do with a love of cilantro than the amazingness of the salad. The dressing felt like it came out of a jar, but it could have been made from scratch. The salad was not bad, and I'd eat it again, but not truly memorable (as evidenced by the fact that I just had to look up their website to find it -- and it's not there).
The man got fish tacos. Now, I think fish tacos are rather meh anyways, but these were super meh. When something is called a fish taco, it should have healthy dose of fish in it, no? These, instead had a healthy dose of cabbage. There was a measly little offering of fish at the bottom, but it was bland and tasteless. Utterly meh.
The restaurant itself is fun. It's got a tattoo theme and interesting art. The waitresses are all funky and alternative, but really cool people. They also are very cute and dressed in short skirts and tight shirts. Good eye candy for when you're wearing the beer goggles mentioned earlier.

I went to Ink for the first time for my bachelorette party. We had the small private room in the back and our server was great. The menu had great looking food and there was something for everyone at the table. I ordered the bbq chicken quesadilla. It was 100 times better than I could have expected. So tasty and the portion was huge.
I also ordered a few drinks off the menu and they were delicious. Not watered down at all, which you find at many bars.
By the end of the night, the bar was packed. It seems like a great place to just hang out, enjoy some good food and tasty drinks.
I went again with a few friends and of course, ordered the quesadilla's again. Next time, I promise to expand my food choice!
over-rated, hipster hangout with a club atmosphere. a dj spins on the weekend times that i have dined. the music was too loud and i had to yell the entire time that i was there. serves dishes that are similar to a glorified denny's. a better selection than denny's, but equal quality of dry and bland. not too bad if you go at the right time/or order the right dish...no late weekends and no brownie sundae. some of the seating areas are pretty cool. my friends and i were approached by the napkin nights people on one of my visits- yuck.

Demetrius is a cool enough bartender dude (so friendly that you'd almost think that you really do know this guy from somewhere) = 1 star
Late, late dinning fare, of okay quality = 1 star
Mac and cheese (WITHOUT the hot dog) = 3 stars. . . with the hot dog= -2 stars (and I LOVE hotdogs, but somehow the doggies aren't working well with that wonderful Mac & Cheese).
Not my kind of place . . but, when the tummy is a rumbling . . . INK is an alright place to get some repeat late-night grub.
Did I mention that the Mac & Cheese is pretty damn cheesy, saucey, with a touch of nutmeg . . . and, it's probably the only reason I have been willing to do some late-night dinning here? So, to sum it up . . the Mac & Cheese is hella, fricken awesome! (crap, did I just say "hella" in a couple of reviews? . . . yeah, my kids are rubbing off on me).

Great atmosphere but just ... EH.... we went in one night and there was a DJ spinning stuff by the door.. it was annoyingly loud... not that loud music is bad, it's just bad when it's thumpin out of thrift store speakers in a bar the size of a standard bathroom. I hope the speakers were the DJ's... LOL
If you don't like sitting right next to people, not your place. They have a couple semi-private booths but then a lot of what I like to call, "Euro" style seating... banquettes where you can smell the pits of the people next to you and feel less inclined to talk about anything risque for fear of being heard...
The food left so much impression on me that I can't remember what I had.... LOL.... The drinks are pricey but good... more of a trendy bar you take out of town friends to because of the decor.... the theme is pretty sweet. I'm going to try them out in the day time for lunch or something... see if the grub improves.... OH, one more thing... hot dogs and mac n cheese? save yourself the money people! LOL at least order something you would have trouble making at home! well... unless you are so sloppy drunk you would have a standoff with the blue box..... then order Ink mac n cheese! :P Worth giving it a try for yourself because of it's originality. CHEERS!

Me and my buddies go into Ink all the time. This place is really cool if you just want to get trashed and get a bite to eat around people your own age. The service is pretty good, and you never seem to be waiting too long for a table, no matter how crowded it gets. If you go, I suggest the Reuben sandwich....it's pretty good.
The atmosphere is just my style, however, the food is just average. Nothing to rave about.
My tongue was delicious compared to the salmon jerky.
Don't order the Salmon Filet Caesar Salad. The "salmon" was as dry as a sand covered dirt clod on a chunk of sheetrock...ha ha ha, just joking...it tasted like shit. I should have bounced this plate as soon as the waitress brought it out but she was really cool and very pregnant so I bit my tongue. My tongue was delicious compared to the salmon jerky.
My only recourse is to let all the good folks in Yelp-land know what's up....power to the people!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it a bar or is it a restaurant?
IT'S A BAR
- Smells like a bar
- Waitress was wearing a hooters-esque INK tank top. Definitely a bar.
- More people sitting at the bar then at the booths/tables. That usually happens at a bar.
- Bar area takes up at least half of the room.
- Table was a bit sticky. Has to be a bar.
IT'S A RESTAURANT
- Pretty extensive menu, running the gamut from asian to mexican to southern influences. Not just your average bar food.
- Fancy mac and cheese. Has to be a restaurant.
- Good burger and bernardo's like fries. Okay. This is a restaurant!
I'm still a bit confused. I didn't really know what to make of Ink, except that it's just not my scene.

I've been to Ink a few times at happy hour lately, and it has been a near-perfect happy hour experience each time. I meet my friend there and we always have a place at the bar, a friendly bartender, great happy hour food deals (yummy wings, both spicy and bbq), great drinks made by people who know what they're doing, and personal service in a hip but not hipper-than-thou spot. I'm going back soon.
Pretty good breakfast. I like the huevos rancheros and the so-hip-it-hurts decor (esp. the Garabaldi murals). And of coarse, the famous Bloody Mary bar. They also have good mimosas. This is beside the point, but the bathrooms are really cool looking (I know I'm probably the only one to get excited about bathrooms, but whatever). All and all not a bad dining experience. I haven't been in awhile because it's a little overpriced for what you get. Tip in case someone from Ink reads this: offer fresh squeezed OJ!

5 Stars. For SURE.
We went to Ink last night for dinner, after being unable to agree on a restaurant (why my husband continues to think Chipotle suffices as a restaurant is beyond me). I was a little wary since I haven't been to Ink in about 3 years, and was less than impressed with their food last time.
Food? AMAZING. My pulled pork sandwich had a superb Guinness sauce, and my fries were perfectly crisp. Great portions, too, enough to give me one more layer of the backfat I love so much. My husband's meatloaf sandwich was extremely good, down to the crispy parmesan bread.
My rum and coke was STRONG. The bartender heartily greeted us when we came in, and our server was perfect: didn't invade our table too much, but was always there when we needed him.
Great atmosphere, awesome food, service is perfection. Ink is my new hangout.

I have to be in the mood for Ink. The atmosphere is high energy- there's usually a dj playing house music and the interior is beautiful, with bright and colorful tattoo-inspired artwork. Not a quiet place.
This is mostly COMFORT food to be sure. The spicy mac and cheese with hot dog, of all things, is memorable. I highly recommend the breakfast sliders to anyone. That said, some food items are better than others; the salads I've had are only fair. The servers are very interactive, crouching down at the table to take your order or jumping around on the bar before making your drink. I tend to avoid specialty martini drinks, often too sweet pricey for my budget. However, this particular coctail list I love...try the white cosmo!
Parking can be a pain, because of major construction.
Word of advice to the ladies: Don't be caught here sober when the bars let out on the weekends. This happened while I was trying to have a mellow drink, and the boys were swarming. While other bars do last call just after 1 am, Ink will serve you drinks right 'till 2 and straight shots in the last 5 minutes or so untill they pull your drinks. Drink your last one fast or they will take it from you, it's the law!
A few tips: Call ahead to make sure they're open..some weeknights it's inexplicably closed or reserved for a privite party; they also close for a few hours before dinner. I'm slighly confused about the hours still. Also, they have a cool side room that can be reserved for large rgroups.
I really miss unlimited champagne brunch :(

Good food especially after a night of drinking. Fast and friendly service, but a little over priced.
Some friends and I came here after swing dancing to see what we could get in the way of food after midnight. What we saw was a trendy place with tattoo art decorating the walls and ceiling, thumpa-thumpa music on the overhead speakers, and a large-screen TV screen on the wall that had strange Japanese competition games playing.
The booth seat we were given had a a worn, collapsing cushion under the seat and a somewhat wobbly table. Also, it caught the cold air draft from the front door every time it was opened...brrr
In looking around, the place seemed populated with people who had been clubbing earlier in the evening and were using this place as a wind-down spot, of sorts. With the house music soundtrack playing at near club-level volume, it was pretty hard to have a conversation without leaning in close and speaking extra loudly.
The menu looked interesting, though. We ordered an array of appetizers to sooth our post-midnight munchies. We picked the grilled marinated ginger-beef dish, the bleu cheese boneless hot chicken wings, and the Sacramento Sliders with carmelized onions and pickles.
The server was prompt with taking our order and the food came out pretty quickly. Apparently, the late night kitchen is not sluggish at all!
(In fact, be careful not to walk on the "busy" aisle" in front of the kitchen if you plan to visit the restroom. The loo is in the back corner, so walk along the aisle by the bar to get to it. Otherwise, you'll be in the path of the servers dashing out of the kitchen.)
The food:
The sliders were pretty good: cute little hamburgers that were pretty tasty.
The boneless hot wings weren't bad. Without the bone in them, they seemed more like a long chicken nugget.
The ginger beef had been marinated in something that made them so tender that I don't think you need teeth to eat them. It was strange. I didn't enjoy the texture, but the taste was okay. I wouldn't order it again.
I'd say the food was the best thing about this place as a late night food venue. The noisy atmosphere make it very bad if you want to have a conversation. The seats weren't comfortable.
(Perhaps I would've liked it better if I'd been out drinking heavily and was using this as a place to come down. Trouble is, lindy hoppers don't drink much because it interferes with your dancing ability.)
It'd be interesting to see what it's like during the daytime.
If half stars were available, I'd give it 2.5 stars.

Ink is definitely in my repertoire of downtown eateries. It isn't for the tattoed decor or the bright lights and cool design, but for the awesome food, late night eats and fun atmosphere.
Ink opened about 4-5 years ago, and their food was great from the get go. The Mac and Cheese is legendary, and can be served White Trash style with chopped up hot dog. Another WT fave is the Meat Loaf sandwich on Parmesan Texas Toast. The Chicken Tacos are reminiscent of Lorrie's Little Shack by the Railroad Track in Rancho Cordova before it was bulldozered to put in the Folsom leg of the lightrail (anyone? anyone???) - greasy hard shell tacos, fresh cheese and lettuce, and chicken with a lil kick! And their HAMBURGER is one of the best in town! Served on soft ciabatta bread, the quality of the meat is perfect!
On the weekends they have bomb ass breakfast sliders with turkey sausage and fried egg, and a create-your-own Bloody Mary bar to give you a good dose of Hair of the Dog on Sundays.
But, what I am the most impressed with about Ink, is that after a few years they have carved out a really chill vibe. Not pretentious - on the customer end or the employee end. The bartenders are rad - Demetrius is one of the most personable people walking the earth and will put a smile on your face. The bar has become the kind of place where strangers actually talk and laugh together. It's become very midtown in the best of ways.

Mmmmm...I have finally found a salad I can make friends with, and it is at Ink. How could you not be friends with a beef salad? With lots of bacon, goat cheese, cranberries, and little chunks of yummy, yummy tri tip. Oh, and spinach. And lots of bacon. Mmmmmm...
Service was friendly, prices were reasonable, and there is more stuff on the menu I'm looking forward to trying. I get the feeling we were there before it really picked up, there was no wait for a table at 8:30 pm.
Go, and make friends.
Good food, but overpriced. There is a lot of better food deals in this area. Really friendly service. Liked the atmosphere.
I ate brunch here the first time I visited Sacramento. I ordered a bloody mary (good) and the breakfast sliders (excellent). The latter requires a little explanation: It's three small, greasy hamburgers with a fried egg and grilled onions on top of each. You can also get them with just the egg. Anyway, they were full of delicious fatty goodness, just as you'd expect from sliders with fried eggs on top.
Points off for mushy potatoes that couldn't decide whether they wanted to be home fries or hash browns. I'm not a big fan of potatoes to begin with (unless you cook the hell out of 'em), and these just weren't right. More points off for a tiny closet of a bathroom. That just doesn't seem like a very good plan for a bar.
Overall, though, I liked Ink quite a bit, not least because of the fellow in the booth behind us who loudly told his brunch companion, "I like your hair, it's slutty!" It gave me quite the interesting first impression of our great State's capital city.
This place is very small, so there is limited seating and line to get in or even wait for a table can sometimes take quite a while; however, there is a big, open bar and they allow you to go in there to chill (with many other patrons crowded in the area).
The lighting and ecor looks very trendy. Nice place for a date, but not quite family friendly. I believe this place open late night also.
Food was awesome. I've been here about 3 times. This is the only place where I absolutely love their jambalaya! It is sooo good. i haven't had any good jambalaya ever since. Food choices are a bit limited on the menu. There isn't many variety or choices, but quality of food is excellent!

It's great for late night drinks and food! I like how they give all the way until 2am to drink, as oppose to other places calling last call at 1:15. The food is good, again for the late night munchies. I will be going back.
A group of us came here after class tonight. Maybe it was because I was brain dead and starving, but all the sandwiches on the menu sounded delicious. I ordered a Ruben and raspberry cider.
The Ruben sandwich was made with pastrami, sauerkraut, and swiss cheese between 2 perfectly toasted slices of marble rye and came with a side of fries. Looking at the menu, it seems that Ink offers more comfort/fast food options. None of their offerings are very exciting or creative, but my food sure hit the spot.
They ran out of raspberry cider, so I was given the pear cider (didn't have much of a choice, the server brought the open bottle over without asking). It came in a bottle I had never seen before. The bottle was still kind of warm and the cider was thicker than what I'm used to, so after a few sips, I waved the server down and told her I didn't like it. She was really cool about it and took it off the tab without a second word. Our busboy was really on top of things and made sure that our water was always full. Great customer service!
There are only 2 bathrooms, 1 for the boys and 1 for the girls. Seems like that could cause an inconvenience on a busy night.
This would be a great place to go after a night out on the town drinking and dancing (i.e. greasy food!). I didn't get that experience but obviously is a good option after hours based on the other reviews here. A group of us went here for dinner before a night out. The food was decent with generous portions. Nothing super spectacular but good. The service was good and we got our orders pretty quickly. Would definitely consider going here next time after a late night out.

The last time I came to INK I had my drink taken away from me at 2am on the dot. Honestly don't remember what I ate, but I remember thinking that this was the best place ever especially since it was open so late.
Came here last night, and was appalled at the prices on the menu. I mean, I'm not one to be cheap but wtf....$8 for a grilled cheese sandwich?? Mac and cheese with HOT DOGS (ick) for $8. whatt theee. I guess I just pictured this place being a late night stop for cheap and greasy food vs. an actual restaurant.
The place looks cool and the bartender there last night was really fun and made really good drinks. I would suggest coming here after a long night when you are craving that greasy stuff and are too incoherent to notice that you are paying $10 for a hamburger. haha However they do have some fancy sounding stuff on the menu that could be well worth it.
Oh and not to mention they were out of Pellegrino....this made me very SADDD!!

I remember the night! Been here twice...ate once...second time, the line was too long, so we left.
The first time I was ever here, I came with a friend. We had just got out of an Incubus concert at Arco Arena. (Incubus were great by the way!). My friend was the one who knew of this place. As soon as I walked in I loved it! The lighting, decor, & bar. This was years ago, but, I think I had some sort of patty melt. It was delicious by the way! Great experience there.
I believe I have also met the manager once at a Jamba Juice off Sunrise Blvd. We started chatting in line and he told me to stop by for some drinks some time, but that always feels weird, ya know? What if you do go in one night and he doesn't even remember you? That would be plain silly and embarassing! Anywho, will most likely go back again.
I would give it 5 stars, but because of the long line the second time I was there. That ruined my 21st Birthday.
As a culinary destination, Ink's menu is cultivated on the premise that at 2a.m. one will need greasy goodness to soak up the alcohol from a night of bar hopping before making the final stretch home. (Think - hot dogs with mac-n-cheese and pulled pork sandwiches.) On the alternative, Ink offers tasty and not-too-strong martinis for a middle-of-the-week rendezvous that won't disrupt your momentum with a hangover. This can be a good or a bad thing, depending on what you want to achieve from spending $8 on a single martini. And finally, even if you don't drink, the food stands on its own and warrants at least one visit. The salads are surprisingly good and creative.

great late night eats. we stumbled into here yesterday at 2.30. i ate a deliciuos steak sandwich. i highly recommend it, especially for you inhibrated folk that would rather avoid any 24 hour fast/sketch food joint.
next time ill check if they have milkshakes.
So basically... yummy diner food with a little flair. I love the mac and cheese after a night out drinking. And this place is open till I think 3 AM. Good to stop here before driving home from the bar. And if you make it before 2 their drinks are tasty too.
Right in the middle of the road here. I love the fries and the tacos had a real kick to them which I loved. I have never had bad service and it is very midtown, but last time I was there I almost threw up because it smelled so badly. The waitress said there was a dead rat in the wall.

I have some good memories at Ink. It is fun, decorated place that serves good drinks! I suggest people try their Mojitos! Yummy! I have never eaten here, but a friend says they have great sandwiches! The place is fun with crazy dim lighting. Oh, when I went one time, the waitress was rude and rushed us out of our seats!
I've never taken advantage of Ink's late night hours, but I have had lunch there several times.
Recently I had lunch there. An acquaintance of mine (an excellent karaoke singer, by the way!) is the day bartender, Sara, who also served as my server.
I had a hairdressing appointment down the street so I only had about 45 minutes to eat lunch - a goal that I had no problem meeting.
I chose the bistro steak filet sandwich which is topped with fried onions. It came with fries (matchstick sized...yum!) and a small portion of a cucumber/tomato salad.
My only complaint is that the fried onions were a bit on the limp side, and perhaps overall the whole meal is a bit pricey. I paid $13 for a steak sandwich and iced tea.
A solid choice in midtown.

A group of my friends and I came to eat here at around 10pm on a Friday night. The wait was around 45 minutes, which was to be expected. We went over to the bar to wait and my friend asked me to get him a lager. So I order my drink and ask the bartender what lagers they had on tap. She gives me this blank stare and then turns around and talks to the other bartender. She returns with my drink and tells me that the closest thing to a lager that they have is Newcastle. This confuses me for 2 reasons; 1. Newcastle is not a lager. 2. Does this mean you don't have Budweiser or Miller (both lagers)? She then replies that they do, in fact, have both of those beers. So what this basically tells me is that neither one of the bartenders working on a weekend night had a clue as to what a lager was...disappointing. As a former bartender, there is nothing that bothers me more than bad bartenders. I'm quickly realizing that knowledgeable bartenders are hard to find. I blame management.
On to the food...I ordered a salmon sandwich and shared some appetizers. My sandwich was quite good. My only problem was that it had no top piece of bread. There really was no reason for the absence, I really think they just forgot it. Strange. The appetizers were okay, nothing amazing.
I'd come back here again if it was my last option but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
I like the food at Ink... and the fact that they serve LATE! Not all of the food is super-duper, but I'll let that slide. Just as I will order some Sacramento Sliders (little White Castle-style burgers) and fire them down my gullet posthaste! Amongst the other fabulous appetizers, I can recommend the boneless hot wings and the soy-ginger marinated beef. Snarferrific!
On the dinner menu, I would recommend the big salads (steak or taco chicken), the pork sandwich, the quesadillas and pasta dishes. However, I will recommend AVOIDing the jambalaya (overspiced) and the meatloaf. I love homemade meatloaf, but this appears to be the restaurant's "garbage product" since it was a bit different in texture and in taste the two different times I had it.
Breakfast is a different story... I've only been in once to check that out, but I always manage to find something on the menu at Ink that I really like. I'll keep coming back here often... it's just my speed.

It's a cool place to hangout and meet friends when you're starting or ending your night. They have movie night on Wednesdays...I think. The set-up inside is rather cool, but the food isn't all that spectacular, not bad but it shouldn't be the reason you're going there.
Ink is adequate, very simply put. Late night grub--while I'm ecstatic that SOMEBODY finally got with the program and offered up some after hours chow (besides Carrow's or Eppies-rip), the food wasn't that great for what I paid. It was a lackluster sandwich with not-so-crispy fries. Drinks are ok, but pricier than I like. Ditto beers. Brunch--again, adequate. The breakfast burrito is ok, not great, but not bad. The bloody Mary bar looks good--I hate tomato juice, but all the pickled vegetables look smashing. Here's the shitty part, and the reason I am mad at them still: THEY CUT ME OFF THE ENDLESS BUBBLES. Now, how can you very well offer an "endless bubbles" brunch special and then cut a girl off? I paid my $7 for the damn cheap-ass champagne. That is just wrong I tell you, wrong.

I know that you can't have alcohol out after 2am in California, but why sell drinks right up until that point only to take entirely full drinks away from people at 2 on the dot? I never realized the importance of having a last call until I saw this happen at Ink. Lots of drunk people watching their drinks get dumped equals lots of angry drunk people.
Also, their food is decent, but nothing special. The only real reason I can see repeating my trip to Ink is for late night food if I knew I didn't have better snacks at home.
