Wenden, AZ 85357 (928) 859-4527So, we're on the way home, back to Los Angeles, from visiting my grandparents in the grayest city in Arizona (Prescott), & we're starving. I keep telling my man friend that the only place I know of along this stretch of highway is Black Rock Cafe in Brenda, but that's much too far, & frankly, I need something that isn't drenched in some kind of dairy based sauce or dredged in salt.
Then, like some desert mirage we see a small, ivy covered building with a sign that says "Good food, great coffee, unforgettable women." Ok, we have to stop here.
This is absolutely the neatest cafe I've ever been in. Not only are the staff wonderful, but the decor is like if your grandmother was an ex hippie who fucked Picasso & loved garage sales. It's amazing.
The food. It's good. Even though they stopped serving breakfast at 11am (I keep forgetting that Arizona doesn't have daylight savings time) it hit the spot. We both had the B.L.T.A. (bacon, lettuce, tomato, & avocado sammich). All the sandwiches come panini style & you have a choice of three sides: Pasta salad, green salad, or chips. Thank fuck they didn't have fries because I probably would have ordered them & felt like shit the rest of the trip. I chose the pasta salad which was rainbow pasta tossed in Italian dressing... FUCKING GREAT.
I know most of you will probably never really get a chance to visit this place, but I loved it. The atmosphere & ambiance were what made it for me. A little piece of a big city nestled in the big open Arizona desert.
