11 reviews for Indy Cd and Vinyl
Well, I've been here twice now . The first time was about six months ago when I helped my best friend move to Indy. His fiance and him thought it would be a great place to show me while I was visiting. The second time I was there was last weekend when I took my first ever solo road trip to go visit them.
Let's just say obviously they were right the first time. It was a place I needed to visit, which is why I had to return to it again last weekend. First of all, how many places have a good vinyl selection now-a-days. Exactly. Well. here you have plenty of it, in great condition to boot. Also, they are great at putting a spotlight on their local Indy Indie artists (get it, Indy Indie?? huh? huh? hahaha. ok. anyway..).
My main reason for loving this place I think has to be the authentic record store feel that it has. You just don't get that enough these days. There's so many big label chain stores, and not enough "Empire Records" stores or my favorite, the store from "High Fidelity".
Even in Chicago it's getting hard to find the old fashioned record stores these days. At least to me it is. One of my favorite places to go was gone the last time I went to go there, and that was the second one now that I loved that closed up shop out of nowhere. So what I'm saying is go to Indy CD and Vinyl if you get the chance and are in the area. Yep. Do it!
Will second Byron on his points about pricing and organization. It still isn't a bad store at all, and I'd put it on the level of Laurie's Planet of Sound and Permanent Records in Chicago. Great selection of music, DVDs, music magazines, etc. for any standard music store. If the pricing was a little better(and which both abovementioned stores hold an edge), I'd likely add a star.
Least I did find a DVD here that I hadn't seen anywhere else, and the staff went out of their way to help, so no complaints here.
I'm Old enough to remember (barely) shaking my Beetle haircut to 45s, besides my hair, some things never change,
living downtown i rarely get to BroadRipple,
What a gem, it's fun, friendly, & FABULOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!
& who knew, THIS IS THE PLACE FOR EVENTS!!!!
The staff is very friendly here. My partner and I have been going here for years. The atmosphere is great. We like supporting local businesses. The have a lot of CDs and Vinyl. You should give them a try. They can order anything they do not have in stock too.
This is one of those reviews I write that goes completely against popular opinion.
I really can't dig this place.
Just looking at it makes me think it's not going to be for me. The place could definitely use a face lift, inside and out, but I guess that could be my OCD talking. The stacks are hard to navigate, and the prices seem absurd. Every time I've ever stopped by the employee's are usually too involved in their conversations with friends to approach with questions. I don't dig it at all, but it is an independently owned music store with has a lot of merit to it, but over all I just can't being myself to go here for my music needs, I think I'll just drive a few blocks south and dig in at Luna.
huge selection... one of the few places that still stocks vinyl that is still open (and they even get stock new and used) join their emailing list and you get a card for a buck off each item for life (or so they used to) and they will find anything, even out of print. Periodically they will have instore performances. Great place... while the staff may be chit chatting with their friends they will gladly help. Super friendly.
Catering to the music enthusiast, including a decent vinyl collection (what? vinyl?), this Broad Ripple Avenue music store is great for shopping in a cozy, retail record store.
In the generation of itunes, myspace and other online media that have completely changed the face of retail music, Indy CD & Vinyl offers a breath of fresh air for those who still like to 'record shop,' even for the latest CDs. The multiple listening stations, as well as local DJs who work at the store, provide more than enough knowledge for the shopper, whether just a dabbler in music, or even for the true addicts like myself.
There's even a kids area in the back, a spot where a certain band that I am in just may have been in a photo shoot. After all, we are Mudkids, so it fit well.
New music, upcoming shows, new DVDs and upcoming releases. Whatever you seek, they will have it or point you in the right direction.
Yes, CD stores still do exist. But it takes something special to keep the locally owneds going. This one offers a good selection of popular and underground bands, and some piquant local color: You'll see some bizarre but colorful mannequin heads by the listening station. An ode to David Bowie?
Friendly help is just a query away. Ask Carly, Andy or Annie to give you a low-down on the newest groups in your favored genre. Belly-up to the checkout counter for an impressive selection of music magazines, complete with staffers' picks. You just can't get this sort of customer service on iTunes--unless, maybe, you're John Mayer.
Best selection that I have found
This is the best record store in Indy--period. You can find just about anything here. If they don't have it in the store, they can definitely order it for you. The staff is generally knowledgeable about music and are helpful. The records are a bit overpriced and parking can be difficult, but who am I to complain. This is the best record store since Coconuts went under.
went here with b/f for a book signing this last Saturday night for a book that b/f got in the mail called Please god save us it's a text and art book by Derek Hess and Kent Smith they had a book signing of their book and we got our Pic. taken with them so check this place out
