A simple request to have a change in my bill that would be received a couple days earlier in adequate time to pay was rejected.
This from a VP. IUCU is not cooperative in and this person was very rude.

I needed it to get a money order and this branch was very personable and gave excellent customer service.

I'm not a fan. I opened an account here because I needed a local place to cash checks and for emergency purposes. I put about $100 worth of checks in here during the time I lived in Bloomington, which is not much, but it was money at their disposal since I never took it out either (I never received my debit card anyway).

So when my wallet was stolen one day, with my ID, all my cards, and all my cash, mere hours before I was due to go on a week long trip, I rushed to the IU Credit Union with a check from one of my other bank accounts so I could deposit money in my account, and cash that out, along with whatever was still in it.

I get to the counter, give my info, and after a few minutes the lady informs me that my account has been closed. Excuse me, I said? What do you mean closed? That's when she explains that if your account goes inactive (note that I'd only HAD the account for two years total), they start taking a $5 penalty out every month until your account is empty and you close it. So they had simply TAKEN my $100 that I deposited in checks not long after I opened the account, not bothered to contact me or send me a letter or anything, and closed my account?! (I wasn't getting statements either because there was no account activity)

I ended up having to reopen one, and once I had, using a check from another bank, they suddenly informed me that I would not be able to take any money out of it yet. What?! I'd specifically asked them about their check cashing policy and they'd told me I could take out a couple hundred right away. What they'd neglected to mention to me until I'd already spent TWO hours in the branch (with a flight to catch just a few hours later), was that you can't withdraw any money deposited with checks if your account is brand new. *facepalm* (Note that I had already explained to them that this was an emergency, and that I had, in fact, been a customer with them until THEY closed my account without informing me, two months earlier. My account had never been overdrawn a single day or anything.)

Eventually I convinced them to let me withdraw a few hundred dollars, but not until after they had called my other bank to verify that the funds were there. So in short: They're assholes. Worst bank I've ever used, and I've banked with at least 6 to 8 different banks in different places I've lived.

This credit union is worse than any bank I have ever used. Normally, credit unions exist to help members save money and avoid bank tricks (like putting all your charges through before deposits even if the deposit is timed before charges) but this CU is shadier than any bank I know. I have paid more overdraft fees here than to any bank, probably because their processes are antiquated-this is also the only place that will not release a small amount-like $50- of a large deposit. This is an awful bank if you are a student for that reason. I've opened up an online account and I'm just waiting for my direct deposit to change so that I can get the hell out of this horrible credit union. Don't bank here. You can do so much better with very little effort...You'd be better off burying your money in a coffee can in your yard

How do you say "I love my bank" without sounding seriously weird?
The location here is not convenient to me as much as others but I love to go in. Staff are always pleasant and helpful. I have financed, refinanced, borrowed and deposited and diversified and sent overseas drafts and had various combination/student accounts for family. Can't fool or fluster them. Thanks!
One reason we are here is our debit cards do not get high charges when we use ATMs in other countries. It is the small things which add up.
I understand there are often holds on checks. I never had a problem and my accounts are sometimes not active as I have several. Terminating long inactive accounts is standard practice and part of the terms one checks into if one is older and experienced. "Inactive" accounts probably do have statements but they may be paperless so they must be checked. I find their online banking as good as any of several I have used. I have not used their phone app.

Do not use bill pay to pay an individual. The money is sent out of Florida. I am in Indianapolis and to pay my cleaning lady who lives in Indianapolis took more than a week. When I called the branch they were like, "Yeh, just hang tight and it will be there." I suppose I should be happy the person was not from India and the check did not come from the Philippines, but this seems an unsat way to handle customer service.
