My husband and I often planned the 1 1/2 hour drive from Taos to Santa Fe just to be in time for the lunch buffet.
Located right off the Santa Fe Plaza, just a stones throw away from the amazing Indian ( well, Native American) jewelry market is one of the delights of the southwest.
The food is great, standard northern Indian cuisine with it's powerful aromatic spices and creamy curries. The tikka masala was a 2 year obsession in our family, it's especially creamy and sweet. Tandori chicken is also great.
If you ever find yourself in Santa Fe stop by. If not, get some uncle ben's special basmati Indian rice, it's the recipe of the owner if IP.
Never would have guessed that some of the best Indian food I've ever tasted would be located out in the desert!
The food was excellent! We ordered a few dishes and appetizers and we managed to finish it all!
Vegetable Samosas - delicious especially when you drown it in their sauces!
Tandoori Chicken Wings - the best "wings" appetizer I've ever had
Garlic Naan- a must have!
Chicken Tikka Masala, Sag Paneer, Lamb Vindaloo - to die for
The staff was great. They were always checking on our table, our glasses were always full and they managed to keep my son entertained the whole time.
I wish they were closer to home but it's definitely worth it if you're in the Santa Fe area and you have a craving for fine Indian cuisine.
The palace part of the name is a misnomer, but the regal Indian fare served beneath the hot pink faade and dim lighting is arguably some of the best in the country. The flaming hot curries, aromatic with aggressive indian spices, are worth the price of admission, while the tandoori presentations are nothing short of stellar. You'll eat like royalty and pay pauper prices, especially if you opt for the lunch buffet -- a steal at $8.45 per person.
Let there be light, God said.
The CEO of the company I worked for asked me to take a good customer out to dinner. The guy was visiting Santa Fe and I was supposed to drive up from ABQ to meet him there.
I had never met this man before, and I have to say I was awed at first sight. Yes, the business dude looked like a Greek God, straight off the pages of GQ.
My mistake? Picking India Palace. I promise, this restaurant is so dark, their electric bill's gotta be less than 10 bucks a month. Each table had a tiny tea light candle for light. The Greek God was nothing more than a outline in the dark. Without going into too much embarassing detail, let me say I can do a lot of things in the dark, but talking shop ain't one of 'em.
Meanwhile, the owner (who was somewhat unoccupied given the week night) kept giving me "knowing" looks through his night vision goggles. You know those looks, like "this chick's gonna get lucky tonight" or "she must be pretty special herself, dating Adonis". Seriously, this dude thought we were on a date! He even said, "come and see us again", like "we" were going to visit him on our 25th wedding anniversary! Please!
Anyways, the moral of the story is, before you do a business dinner at a place you haven't been to before, check the lighting. Romantic alcoves are not conducive to business anything. And yes, I'm still kicking myself for missing the eye candy even though I dined with it.

food is fairly standard for the price
staff not too friendly
and seriously, what's with all the white?
is the higher price to pay for the laundry bill?
