Good Indian Food in Cave Like Setting:

Don't expect anything lavish in this bare bones, Indian restaurant which has a dull interior. The waiters are composed of children and they aren't very experienced, often stumbling with the plates and hot dishes. The food itself is bland at times and most of it is prepared sloppily, being sent to the table either too cold or burnt to a crisp. Lack of courtesy on behalf of the wait staff include not filling up water or drinks, not bringing spices, not inquiring about the dinner, or getting upset over the bill, orders, etc, etc.

But do avoid the spoiled reviews who expect to taste Indian food like from New York or San Francisco, this is Tucson, at least it's here pals and it beats the stale crap found at CrapDonalds.

That said, I still enjoy it just because it is Indian cuisine and it beats anything put out by the bland corporates.  That is a good reason to visit them, I love unique places.  Just remember it is a casual family run business so don't walk in with an attitude where you expect them to roll out a golden carpet and eat like a Punjabi prince.

Stop #2 on our tour of crappy Indian restaurants in Tucson (see my review of Sher-E-Punjab) was India Oven. While briefly a UA Wildcat many eons ago, I occasionally ate here. But not often. Which is a bad sign considering my Indian heritage and the fact that I lived about 5 minutes away.

Having never in my life ever walked into a restaurant, glanced at the buffet, and then walked out as my friend and I did at Sher-E-Punjab, I never imagined that such an event would happen twice in a row. It did. As soon as I walked in the memories of untrustworthy chicken preparation came flooding back in. Then we walked straight up to the buffet to check it out, and were again dismayed by what we saw. So we walked out, to finally settle for our bland experience at Gandhi.

Tucson cries out for a great Indian place. Hell, the entire state of Arizona does, but at least we in Phoenix have a couple of solid 3-4 star alternatives to get us by until the day our 5-star savior arrives.

Ok it's not that bad. It used to be a thousand times better. I'm not sure what happened. My ex boyfriend and I used to go in here all the time and eat until we couldn't move. Then they started getting popular and the food went down hill.

Better Indian restaurants in Tucson:
Ghandi
Sheri-Punjab (right around the corner)

So happy that there's great Indian cuisine here in Tucson! Oddly, a lot of beef dishes. try that one for a real novelty! But of course, it's chicken tikka masala that I love, and their's is great! Oddly, I had a better experience than the rest of the reviewers here.
If you notice my other reviws, I'm not generous with my praise.

Driving by, saw this place, went in and had dinner.  Mistake.  Don't go here.
