India Groceries & Fashions
3 reviews for India Groceries & Fashions
I visited India Groceries the other day, after trying Hao Wang was closed for the day. So slightly further up we stopped and parked and got out. There were 3 or 4 other vehicles in he lot, we actually parked next door and walked over.
It is a house, with the bottom floor converted into a shop. They have a huge selection of VHS & DVDs, mostly india / pakistan bollywood stuff, but some newer stuff there. (i'd say about 50% was original, the rest looked pirated and the graphics printed out from of a computer)
They had many different flavors of rice, shrimp crackers, cashews, pistachios, sauces, henna, hair-dye, beans, nuts, dates, etc. They had packaged noodles and sweets in a small refridgerator. Every inch of space was jam packed with tandoori, biyani, and bunshah products, etc etc. There was a freezer in the back with a small assortment of frozen goodies.
We bought a few things that we needed, and were on our way. They also had lottery, lotto, soda, candy and herr's chips. The guy running hte register was being directed by another lady, asking the prices, etc, he asked that we come back and said it was under new management, im guessing he's the new manager.
You can easily miss this place because it looks like a deli/bodega on the corner of the road. The small sign says Indian Grocery, but I had to look hard to find it. FYI- It's past Aangan on Walnut Street/Jonestown Rd. Parking is limited in the lot, may have to use the street.
Amazing how much they could cram into such a small place. Not a huge selection of frozen stuff, but has all the necessities for indian cooking and more. Plenty of sauces, spices, health and beauty products. For the only indian grocery place I know of in Harrisburg, it is more then enough.
This market is slightly tucked away from 22's street front, so look out for the sign.
Ample parking and prime location (in Penbrook - about half way between Harrisburg city and Colonial Park) are just two things that make this store amazing.
However, the true amazingosity begins when you open the door :)
Henna, mango juice, shisha charcoals. They've got it all! I've never taken as much time to browse the store as I'd like - as a typical visit requires me to be fiending for shisha with no charcoal in my house. Their prices for charcoal are a bit steep - but on par with other retailers in the area.
The family who owns the store/works in the store is top notch as well. Very sweet and they always remember me even if I don't come in for 6 months at a time. This is the way businesses ought to be!
