This place is a diamond in the rough. When I used to live in the city, this place was a couple of blocks away. I recently tried out their food and can't think why the hell I've never been there before. Their food is home made delish. Their adobo is on the spot.  Not to spicy, not to sour and not to sweet. They got it down!

I'd give it a 5 star, but it took me 3 times to finally hit a day when they had Kare Kare. I was so happy to finally taste, but it was so-so. I've had better Kare Kare other place else.

If you're down in the missions, be sure to hit this hole in the wall up.

BTW, the lady owner I think used to be a beauty queen  in the phils. She has a picture posted w/ her gown and all. Really funny how she runs the restaurant instead. Beautiful and yummy food. Lucky husband I must say.

My husband and I found this place by accident when we walked in needing change for the street meter.  And I have to say, even though it had a very "hole in the wall" feel, it was some of the best Filipino food I've had in a long time!  We had their lunch combos for $4.60 each - two items, rice, and a small cup of soup.  The items we tried were the lumpiang shanghai (little pork egg rolls), chicken adobo (chicken in a brown vinegary sauce), kare kare (peanut butter stew - sounds weird but tastes excellent!), and sotanghon soup (Filipino version of chicken soup with thin noodles).  Everything was SOOOO good!  We especially loved their kare kare and shanghai.  Plus, the guy at the counter was so nice to us.  Very friendly, and he was generous with the portions.

For non-Filipinos who aren't familiar with the turo-turo (point-point) restaurant, it's sort of like a Panda Express style joint where you point to what you want from the dishes behind the counter.  They don't really have a menu you can order from unless you're ordering catered dishes in advance.  Another thing I've noticed about homestyle Filipino food - it tends not to look too appetizing in their warming trays.  A lot of the food is stew-y, so it looks like a mushy mess in the heat trays.  But when you taste it, Oh My...  So when it comes to Filipino food, don't judge purely on appearances.  The stews (like sinigang, dinuguan, kare kare, etc.) may not be as nicely presented as Japanese sushi or that kind of stuff, but it tastes wonderful...  especially at Inang's restaurant.  Seriously some of the best stuff I've had in a long time.

Talk about comfort food! This is as Filipino as it gets and, yes, it is a place where the tables are sticky and the steam from the rice cooker seeps its way into your nostrils, wakes the rest of the senses and hits you with scents of genuine Filipino home cooking. There are some vegetable dishes for vegetarians. Unfortunately, for vegans, I don't think there's much for ya. Sorry fellow vegan yelpers! However, if you want to know what a 'lola' (Filipino Grandma) house looks like, as mOnsterlicious E. mentioned, it's the spot to hit up but remember, it's the food NOT the decor that is the most important!!

Seriously, the fried chicken and the Mechado (beef stew) is quite delicious but the snobby part of me wishes it was a bit more restaurant style versus a 'hole in the wall' feel.

Oh, last thing, low carb diet folks, this isn't the place for you.  You will need lots of rice to go with your meals!

It's one of those places that looks like a typical Filipino's family home kitchen -- cheap table covers, the feel of grease in the air, a TV with 24-hr TFC stacked on VCRS. This place has the BEST dinuguan I've gotten at a restaurant. Also, they often have lechon, which at most places is only served maybe once a week or as a special. I know someone who met their weed dealer, which to me, explains the readily available lechon. I mean, you gotta put that pig on a spit and roast it!

The menu changes daily and you can get 2 items with rice for under $5. Sometimes the adobo is dry because all the food sits on warmers all day but in general, the quality is decent. They usually start running out of food around 4:30pm during the week so get there early.

I've also used them to order catering trays. They're good people.

I think one of the guys there has a crush on me because when he's at the register, he hooks me up! He hasn't noticed my obvious soft butch lesbianism, even when I have one of those super short spikey hair days.

And don't forget to order the karioka.
