Last Sunday I spent three mimosa and wine filled hours learning the intricacies of bagel making at IGT, and despite the dauntingly high prices for cooking classes here, it was well worth it.

I'd recommend these cooking classes to those looking for a pampered, educational, culinary treat.  They do offer plenty of hands on classes, but you're not going to be sweating away over a hot stove.

Don't forget to bring your apron!

Adding to my ever expanding, never near capacity kitchenware collection, I headed to In Good Taste, because that's what Portlanders do, support local. I did not find the item I set out to look for; however, I found pretentious, attitudey and uncomfortable service at In Good Taste. I promptly turned my heels and headed to Sur La Table for a completely opposite and pleasant shopping experience. Even though they have "La" in their name, they were not pretentious or attitudey. You would think it would be "In Good Taste" to be helpful, friendly and courteous. The next time I grow my kitchenware collection again, it would not be in my best interest or "good taste" to try In Good Taste.

Note: In Good Taste is not a dog friendly store because their kitchen and store share the same space. I fully understand the health code policies. However, In Good Taste's staff didn't offer any recommendations, like "we don't carry that, but we carry a lot of .... please come back because we'll have those."

Beautiful store! The staff here is wonderful and very, very nice! I came in just to brows, but wound up building my Christmas list of all the fine and fancy kitchen gizmos and tools sold here.
There is wine, salts, spices and anything one may need to be a chef sold here. They also have a bunch of cooking classes offered every month. I have not attended any of them; they seem pretty expensive to participate in; classes are start at $45 and go up from there. Most of the classes have a list of what they will be teaching; seems easy enough to just look up the recipes instead of shelling out a bunch of $$ for a class.

Great store! I wish I was local, as I'd definitely take advantage of this store's excellent selection of kitchenware and fine gourmet cooking needs. A foodie's paradise!

However, there were two people working there. One, a great guy, very helpful, no attitude, good vibe. Another, lady, attitudey, seemed slightly lazy, and made me uncomfortable. This is the only reason this store gets one less than 5 stars.

Good wine selection at this small gourmet store in the Pearl District that also offers wine tasting and cooking classes. Good selection of cookbooks and kitchen tools as well.

I stopped by to pick up a couple of Marionberry jam jars and some Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley Vineyards on my way back to the Bay Area. Yum!
