Customer service is great, they are kind and professional to work with. A confirmation e-mail was sent to me directly after scheduling the movers over the phone. A few days beforehand, I received a call to confirm the move.

The movers are on time and were actually early.

This was our third move with In & Out, unfortunately the crew we received were not up to par with the first two teams we had. After we had some concerns about our move, the manager Ariel helped correct the situation. We are happy with the outcome and Ariel was very professional while helping us.

If you read this post and still hire this company you are as much of a fool as I was.

I don't know where to begin when it comes to what a HORRENDOUS experience I had with In & Out Moving and Storage.  I have moved interstate and locally three times in two years, I know what I'm doing and what the movers should be doing.  I hired In & Out to move me out of state and store almost all of my belongings for four months.

Things began to go wrong when I noticed one of the team members cutting a box open with a knife DIRECTLY on top of a family heirloom area rug.  When I said to the man, "Please do not cut on top of my rug" he scornfully said back to me: "What do you want me to cut on?  The floor?"  I suggested he use a couple of the moving quilts they bring with them for protection, he rolled his eyes at me.

The next thing upsetting incident was when I asked them multiple times to wrap up a particular piece of furniture, rather than take it apart.  I had successfully moved this piece of furniture, interstate and locally before.  They rolled their eyes and ignored me.  I was left feeling completely disrespected and ignored.  My faith in their ability to handle my things, and keep them safe and undamaged completely diminished.  You know that shaky out of body feeling that comes over you when you're feeling out of control?  I had that feeling for about 24 hours after they left.

At the end the team leader presented me with the form and final total which was $600 over the estimate.  When I nicely asked him to go over the itemized bill, so I could understand where the additional charges came from, (which I think was a reasonable request) he said: "You are the kind of woman who thinks every man on the street is out to get her."  WHAT???  I was speechless and could not believe I had been spoken to  like that.  Reluctantly, and in shock, I signed the forms while what I wanted to do was demand all of my things be returned.

He and I proceeded to walk through the building's corridors to check for damage, as I would be responsible had there been any.  When I pointed out to 3 very obviously fresh gashes in the wall right next to my apartment, he looked me in the eye and said with a smirk: "Those were there before."  Needless to say I'd lived there a year, those gashes were most definitely not there before.

I was completely unnerved after this experience and still can't believe that I tipped them - and tipped them well.  I was too nervous about my life that they had in their control, not to.  I had absolutely no faith that my belongings would survive the 4 months of storage and make it back to me in another state in-tact.  I wrote a long email to the owner and the customer service reps I dealt with.  When the owner called me I explained that I was not looking for a discount and told him which of the guys treated me respectfully, as I did not want them to get in trouble for the actions of the others.  He told me that no one would be fired for my experience - WHAT???  I wouldn't dream of anyone being fired, all I wanted was to be assured that my belongings would be returned to me safe and sound.

When I expressed my concern he said that "I shouldn't worry about things that I have no control over" and "that sometimes in life you have to take what comes, and deal with it."  I'm not looking for a Yoga instructor, I'm looking for a competent owner of a moving company!  I work in advertising - I can only imagine what would happen if I said to a client: "Sometimes, client, ad campaigns just don't run, and you have to deal with that."  I would kiss that client goodbye and probably my job too.  I said to the owner that I understand that about life, however, wouldn't he agree that I'm paying for his company to perform a service that they are supposed to do, and do well?"  And he agreed.

The next couple of months I tried my best to take his sage advice and  not worry about my belongings that I've worked very hard to accumulate, along with irreplaceable things they had like photographs and letters and such.

When I got a bill for the month when my things were supposed to be in transit to my new apartment, I was surprised and called out the mistake. They said no mistake that I said my things couldn't get there before a few days into the month.  They said they would only bill me for half the month and that was the best he could do and wasn't I so appreciative?

I had documented the horrendous way I was treated, I pointed out that I was DEGRADED by his team lead, I was charged $600 over my estimate for god knows what - he couldn't have comped me the extra three days for my things in storage? I have given this criminal almost 3K of my hard earned money. Seriously!?

Oh and he told me that I would get a service free for the company who did the delivery and when I said that to that company they said no that wasn't true.  At this point I no longer cared and considered myself extremely lucky that I'm only missing 1 or 2 boxes.

I would like to update my review to confirm that I have received reimbursement for my out-of-pocket expenses associated with my move. After posting my review, I received a call from In-and-Out and they agreed to reimburse my expenses if I signed a release releasing them from all legal claims. I did so, and received reimbursement as promised.

I hate moving and I have always moved myself then on the last day have a friend or two help with the big stuff. People kept telling me just to hire movers so I finally broke down and did......very happy I did and will never move myself again.

After lots of research and phone calls I get a call from James at In&Out who proceeded to clam he could beat all of my prices so far which he did and since I was moving into a 3rd floor he added a extra guy at no cost. Also there was no extra cost to move two apartments. So 4 guys showed up (only an hour late and they called me the night before ++) got 2 apartments and travel to the new one with in 3 hours, that's fast!!! Unlucky for me and unhealthy for them it was the hottest day so far this year; the 3rd floor took about 2 hours. One guy hurt himself so then I stepped in (what a work out, I thought I was going to die).

Pros -nice crew, nice customer service, fast moving

Cons -if they damage something you have to go through a third party and you better take pictures cause they won't pay (they knocked two holes in my walls but I patched them myself no biggie). I got charged around $250 just on materials which I thought was a little insane.

Overall I would use them again.

Well some of you know that I'm moving to Australia.  So my company told me to find a shipper that can handle a 20' shipping container and some air freight for the move.  Well I was being lazy so I called the closest place to my apartment.

I talked with Patrick Parrish.  I got a quote, they sent a guy to make sure everything will fit, and then a week later they came by the first time.  They packed up a good portion of the apartment and are coming back once more to finish it up today.

They came on time, the quote was good for a move to the other side of the world, and all acted professional.

I never realized how much crap my wife and I have until it is put in boxes.  I'm glad they're doing it for me.

No matter how much advance preparation you do, moving is always a hellish experience, and I always wind up furiously trying to stuff my belongings into plastic Jewel bags. In & Out Moving at least makes it tolerable.

We've used them 3 times and have recommended them to several people. They are professional, polite, friendly, and hard workers. They've never been late, in fact they've arrived early each time we've used them, and always get right to work. And, the best thing is that their price quotes have always been right on target. No surprises, no hidden fees, nothing but straightforward business.

Don't waste your sanity or your money, call In & Out.

I submitted half a dozen online quotes to moving companies when I moved from Irving Park to Schaumburg and surprisingly only heard back from two of them.  In & Out Moving was one of those that got back to me not only by email, but also called and talked with me about it.  Their hourly rate compares with other moving companies, but what set them apart was they offered 4 men and had a lower minimum hours at 2.5, meaning they would get done quicker.

I only asked them to move my furniture and do the heavy lifting, as I was moving from basically a 4th story (no elevator, and winding staircase) to a 2nd story (no elevator, straight staircase).  They called me an hour before they showed to give me a heads-up.  They shrink wrapped all my furniture, carried it down the stairs, drove to Schaumburg, unloaded and unwrapped everything, all in one piece, and in just under 2.5 hours!  The only knock I have on them is their good insurance policy is more money than other movers because its from a 3rd party, but they handled my belongings with care so I didn't mind.  Also keep in mind if you have them box your stuff then you have to pay for more supplies (box, tape, shrink wrap, etc), which can get pricey.  Overall though it was very affordable!  This was a very easy move because of them and I would definitely use them again.

In response to the comment recently posted by the owner of In & Out Moving & Storage, Inc., I stand by my original review.

I was interested to see a review from another customer describing the dismissive statements Ariel made to her on the phone. I had the same experience. I was told, in fact, that I shouldn't value "things" so much, and should be grateful for my health and other intangibles, rather than complaining about lost and damaged belongings. That seems an odd attitude for someone whose business engages in moving people's valued belongings from place to place.

I am glad to see that Ariel has posted repeatedly that his company is not at fault and has attempted to make appropriate restitution. It makes it abundantly clear that either (a) all of the company's clients are unreasonable lunatics, or (b) that the owner has now decided to respond to every complaint online with a boilerplate statement in no way reflecting the actual facts.

I feel even more strongly, after reading the owner's comments on my and other reviews, that this company is dishonest in word and deed, and has in no way improved its unacceptable business practices.

I've never used these guys to move, and I never will. I definitely did not appreciate being sexually harassed by one of their workers this weekend, and certainly would never trust these people in my home.

My experience was back in July 2008, but these movers were scheduled for the afternoon, and called me in the morning asking to come earlier.  I was not ready until the scheduled time, so I asked them to come later.   They ended up not showing up, and in the process weren't answering their phones.  I had to scramble to make alternate arrangements at the last minute.

If your move is time critical, use someone else!

We called In and Out moving because the movers we originally wanted were not available. The quote they gave me over the phone was standard as compared to the rest of the movers I had called.
I was moving 1 mile in the same suburb from a 3rd floor walk-up to a 4th floor with elevator. They arrived on time, and called me 45 min before the scheduled time to confirm they were on their way. They got working immediately. I had around 15-17 boxes of which few boxes were heavy and full of books. I was amazed to see them running down the stairs of all 3 floors with them. They wrapped the big couch and the mattress and box springs . All my furniture managed to get into my new house in one piece even the laminated particle furniture. They managed to maneuver my 93 inch couch down the narrow staircase and when it did not fit into the elevator , they carried it up the stairs in the new apartment. Of course my husband was standing guard to see that they dont drop any furniture. And we dint have anything breakable, i told them which boxes my glassware and stuff were in and they handled them carefully.Nothing was broken.

Cons- The only reason I reduced one star was because the guy on the phone tried to sell me 4 men and I had refused. But when they turned up there were 4 men. They said it would be easier and I did not feel like arguing . The rate was a bit higher. But they got the job done in under 2 .5 hours...i dont know if it would have been possible with 3 men .

Anyway will definitely use for a local move again.

In order to fully judge my review, please realize after spending almost six years in hell because of a job relocation (a southern town never to be mentioned from these lips again) I am back.  Where I used to live, service was defined as the Army, or a word in the dictionary seldom used.  The movers I used to pack my truck so I could move to Chicago were slow, two 1/2 hours late, took six plus hours to pack, did not give me a receipt but emailed me one that had five grammar errors, no company logo, or contact information (yes I used the yellow pages to hire them..they came highly recommended via the local reviews) packed my truck like an accident waiting to happen, and complained the whole time about how hard moving is...yes they were a moving company.   My wife and I did as much loading if not more as some of the crew because we were tired of waiting and wanted to get out of dodge.  In the end the movers dropped and broke over six items totaling over $1,000 but refused to pay for them.  As you can tell I am not used to quality service where I previously lived.

Anyway, these guys in Chicago show up to my door, thin, lean, and mean (actually very nice guys).  I live on the third floor (so does everyone I am told) and all we have are narrow stairs.  This did not bother the movers one bit.  We moved in during that nasty muggy hot last few weeks (early August 07) where the temp was 95-98.  These guys unloaded the truck in half the time it took for the movers down south, didn't damage anything, were friendly, and had a simply amazing work ethic.  My friends that helped me move in were in shock as one guy took a big chair from them (it took two to move) through it on his back, and proceeded to power walk up the stairs to my flat.  They were so fast, it took everything I had to keep up with them organizing where the boxes were going.  I had over fifty banker boxes of heavy hardback books, and they were hauling them up four to five at a time per person.   The guys never broke down and I had to insist they take a ten minute break on me because I was tired.  These guys ended up being less money than the packers from down south even after I gave them a decent tip.

I highly recommend this company because they do not try to milk the clock and the movers come ready to work.  If I had an army of 100 men like these guys I would rule the world....ha ha ha!
