Portions are ginormous. If I had my way I would go here every day of my life for the rest of my life. The food was amazing, service was great, and I want some nutella french toast right now!! Oh my goodness, sooo worth the wait!
A MUST GO!! -

Had lunch with the work posse today and while the price was right, the place was just fair. It's a super casual sit down restaurant with table service.
I had the buffalo chicken salad and it was quite small for a lunch salad. It was also pretty bad. The chicken was very frozen-textured and coated in a spicy buffalo chicken/lime sauce that was only fair. The salad was just chicken, lettuce, cucumber and carrots. I would have happily paid a lot more for a bigger salad, more chicken or a roll. I think breakfast might be the way to go, and they did have a healthy omelet which you can get tomatoes with instead of home fries.
Woody Allen famously said, "There's an old joke - um... two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of 'em says, 'Boy, the food at this place is really terrible.' The other one says, 'Yeah, I know; and such small portions." That pretty much sums In a Pickle up.
Also, they left the door open all through lunch. It was quite cold out. Way to freeze your customers, although I was told this was to save energy as they would have turned on the AC with the doors closed. Either way, I was cold.
So, while the place is cute and our waitress was really nice, tolerantly ringing 5 credit cards for our table, I doubt I'll be back. -

ABSOLUTE SH*THOLE! My friends and I didn't want to wait in line, so we decided to get take out. Having had many experiences with take-out, I wanted to be clear about my order. As the hostess came out to give us our order, I specifically asked her to make sure that I had my syrup with my pancakes, and she reassured me that it was in the bag. I got back to my dorm..and guess what? NO SYRUP! I mean, if I didn't remind you, it's one thing. I REMINDED HER. It pissed me off so much. On top of that, my homefries were burnt, and the portion was so small. I've had my share of breakfast diners, and this was the absolute CRAPHOLE. I've never paid so much for such sh*t. I definitely won't be coming back again, and I'm sure if I ever do, my review isn't going to change. So much for nice people and good food. It was crap. Maybe everyone else had better luck going in the diner, but I'm definitely never setting foot in there again.
OH, on top of that, they also messed up my friend's order. The whole place needs to fix their organization. These little slip-ups are going to make the place lose potential long-time customers, because you definitely lost my support. -

Had a great breakfast here back in September. (so this is a LONG overdue review!!)
I had the Healthy one omeletter- egg whites, broccoli, mushrooms, tomatoes, - very delicious, with Homefries, toast, Orange juice- all very good, I was pleased. and it wasnt that expensive, and not too long of a wait to get a table. My friend had the coconut banana french toast- not as good as the neighborhood restaurant's version, but very decent. This place is in my neighborhood, so I'll be back! -

This place is best on weekdays cause on the weekends waiting in line outside for breakfast is a NO NO. Every time get breakfast here I get the Sombrero Breakfast Sandwich which is absolutely amazing! The right amount of heat to wake you up in the morning. I'm big on breakfast so I also get the homefries and french toast on the side. The home fries here definitely taste great. I just wish they were crispier than they serve then. The french toast is one the best I have had at a breakfast spot. The food, portion, and price together make this one my favorite breakfast spots.

Food just okay, nothing to write home about. Service was pretty good. Overall average breakfast joint on the lower end of the spectrum.

Well worth the 30 min. wait Sunday around noon. A very small restaurant but OMG OMG OMG the breakfast items are soooo delicious. We had french toast with coconut and topped with a load of sliced bananas, french toast stuffed with nutella, and spicy omelettes. Service is fast and friendly. $40 for the 4 of us but so woth it. No comparision to Wilson's diner a few miles down where we went the day before. IN THE PICKLE - please come to Long Island !!!.

This is a great breakfast spot! I had the breakfast sandwich (egg white, American cheese) on rye. My cousin ordered fries and I, of course, couldn't keep my fingers off of them...lol.
This place is really cute. We sat at the bar and they were cooking right in front of us. They have all kinds of candy type pancakes. I settled for the traditional pancake and it was delicious!!! For you candy lovers, they had chocolate chip pancakes and other types of candy pancakes :) -
Review from Greg T.
Haverhill, MA
Was here on a Saturday at roughly 1pm. There were about 6 people in front of us, and after we put our name in, 10 more showed up behind us. Needless to say, we got there at the right time. We waited for about 15 minutes, which wasn't bad at all. Gave us time to figure out what to eat, so we could order when seated.
I went with the Stacked (eggs over easy, white toast), and a single blueberry pancake. The eggs were done perfectly, as was the blueberry pancake. My only objection came with the meats. The ham was a little dry, and the sausage links appeared to be (and taste) like brown n serve. The hash browns were a little hard, but it didn't stop me from polishing off the plate. I just wish more places would have hash browns!
The wife had the Snickers pancakes, and these were a true homerun. If you have even a small sweet tooth, you will love these pancakes. They were a chocolatey, gooey, treat that was delicious. It makes me wonder what the other pancakes are like if these were this good. My only tip to those people that haven't been and are considering this choice: get some bacon on the side. The salty bacon will help in the sweetness of the pancakes.
Everything was delicious, and I am really just nit-picking. We will be back for sure. Next time I get an omelet. I am sure it will be just as delicious as everything else.
Good wait staff, and really friendly. -

Good food and nice people!
The only thing I don't like is the wait. And on a cold morning like today, we had to wait outside!! It's toooo cold!! -

Was amazed that at 10:30am on a weekday that the place was packed. The waffle batter was the best we've tasted though not quite as crispy as I like it. Everything came with heaping of fresh and tasty fruit, and the nutella banana pancakes were a big hit with my wife. If you want good wholesome food for not a lot of money, this is definitely the place to go.

We have tried to get in here several times, but the wait was ri-donk-ulous. We finally made it on a weekday. I got just a basic omelet with bacon, chedder cheese and tomatoes (it came with decent sour dough bread and home fries). It was good, even great, but not worth all the times back and forth to get in. We also tried a side of pancakes - we were three and we all got omelets and wanted to try the pancakes - and they tasted like good, average pancakes.
The waitress was nice but I got the feeling she wanted us to leave sooner rather than later. The best part was the fresh brewed iced tea - it was aces! It may be the best I have had in a while! I asked for a refill and she put it in a to go cup (without me asking) - I want to think she was being considerate and that she wasn't giving us the bums rush (think happy thoughts). I would go back again if I were in the area, but I like my breakfast options where I am.Listed in: Iced Tea, Iced Tea Everywhere…, Breakfast, Breakfast,…

Me: "So I am torn between this omelet and the Resees Pancakes"
Waitress: "Why don't you get the omelet and add on a pancake?"
Me: "Sounds like the perfect idea. Let's do that."
I promised my friend I would drive him out here under the condition he bought me breakfast. So i asked my friend who went to school in the area what her recommendation was. I must say that I am very pleased with her suggestion.
Our waitress was very pleasant and made us feel right at home. I was expecting the pancake to be okay and was thinking something like that might be somewhat dry. It was moister than... well you know and perfectly incorporated the chocolate and peanut butter flavors.
My steak-tip omelet was good but the tips could have been a little more tender. the home-fries were well seasoned and cooked well. I hate when fries are overcooked.
Next time I find myself in Waltham I am trying their french toast. Their dishes are pretty inexpensive and their coffee is good and cheap. You are definitely not paying city prices here. The lady at the table over from us got some and it looked thick and tasty. Mmm. -
Review from Wendy S.
I don't think so. A classic case of a popular breakfast spot with hoards of people spilling onto the sidewalk waiting in ridiculous lines for basic breakfast foods. I don't get it. No breakfast is worth waiting in that kind of line for, and this is no exception.
I frequent the nail salon next door, and am constantly fighting my way through hungry breakfast/brunch crowds weekly. Crying children, b*tchy couples, and obnoxious college students all line up for eggs and pancakes. No, really. I happened to walk by on a day where (gasp) there was nary a line to be seen, and I decided to see what the fuss was all about. The interior is...basic. Service is passable at best, and the food is sugary, starchy, and uninspired. I certainly don't see draw to wait in line for waffles - no matter how tasty they are. It's a waffle, people! Move along. My nails need tending to. -

I finally made it back to this place - and I still don't get the hype. I didn't stick to the table this time, so that was a bonus, but the service was still terrible and the food was fine, nothing spectacular. We were never offered coffee refills - we had to flag someone down for them when we were nearly done eating and my eggs were super overcooked. I feel like coffee refills and eggs should be things breakfast places are perfect at, but judging by the rest of the reviews, that's just me...

From out of town... Can I take you home with me?? Hope you don't mind all those Yankee fans that would be coming in.
FANTASTIC menu. Buckwheat waffle with fruit was godly. Fantastic prices. Service was great. A little bit of a wait (30 minutes) but WELL WORTH THE WAIT. felt like 3 minutes my
Mouth was watering the whole wait time. -

Ok. Updating this because this morning I visited for breakfast and tried the Caramel Crunch French Toast. I'm very picky about French toast and was a little nervous that I would really miss my usual chocolate chip pancakes. (Isn't that the worst? Trying to pick between two things and then feeling like you picked wrong.)
But I went for it -- and I'm glad I did. I will be dreaming about this French toast until I can come back for more. One side of the French toast was crunchy from brown sugar that was caramelized on the flat top. A little whipped cream and a just a bit of syrup made me a happy girl. Yum!

Today I enjoyed the Tomato, basil and Mozzarella Panini with a side of home fries and bacon! Everything was delicious! The bread the panini was made of was so flavorful! The home fries are so full of flavor! Honestly the best I ever had! I wish I could replicate them! I always have a cup of joe when I come as I truly enjoy the flavor as well! My son enjoyed his bacon, eggs and pancake as well! One of this weeks specials is the turkey omelet which my husband could not stop eating! I love the environment no matter how busy or loud it gets! Great food, great staff, great little dinner! I wish I knew how to spell my servers name! She is great! I know she recently had a baby! Well she is amazing, always smiling and happy to see us when we come back! If you ever had a doubt... Shove it to the side and come on in! This is Waltham's best kept secret!!!

Flew into Boston and the first thing I wanted was breakfast. Headed straight to In a Pickle after a Yelp search for food in my friend's neighborhood of Waltham. We got there at 6:20, ten minutes before they opened, but we were invited in early.
The menu is extensive and down right creative. Took us a good 15 minutes to finally decide on what we wanted. Actually, we couldn't decide and ended up ordering two plates and one to share. The omelets are stuffed to the max with fresh ingredients. I had the healthy omelet and my friend had the western omelet. Comes with home fries and toast/english muffin so you won't be leaving hungry. We also ordered coconut banana french toast (fatties, I know) and tasted that. French toast had a nice crisp to it and was yummy and soft on the inside. Definitely waayyyy too much food for two, but we had plenty of leftovers for later. Prices are worth the amount of food served! No frills and great food. Excellent service!!! -

Let's get down to the nifty gritty shall we?
The Food:
The basic french toast was tasty.
The bacon was delicious.
The Service:
It was good, not spectacular, but good.
The Atmosphere:
It was a cute little place, a bit loud though. It does pale in comparison to the awesome retro-ness of Wilsons down the road however.

Having gone back to this place several times now I think I should add that their "Grilled Apple, Bacon and Cheddar Sandwich" is freaking amazing and you really have to try it! -

Pickle, you were one of the first places I went to when I returned to MA last week from Vermont. You are getting better with age, my friend. The wasabi grilled cheese was even better than I remembered and the Pumpkin Pancakes with cinnamon whipped cream kicked a$$. I am super pumped to be living down the street from you. Keep up the good work!

I LOVE YOU, IN A PICKLE! I can't understand how people could think to criticize this place.
Line's too long? Boo-freaking-hoo. It's POPULAR because it's DELICIOUS! And there's only a long line during specific hours on the weekend, so just avoid it.
Too expensive? WHAT? You stingy moron.
It's too much like diner food? It's a tiny little breakfast/lunch joint. It's not like they're putting down white table cloths and serving you MacDonald's!
I love this place. Their omelets are unreal, as are their pancakes and waffles. I've been going here for three years and I haven't even made it to the lunch page because I want to try EVERYTHING they offer for breakfast. LOVE LOVE LOVE IN A PICKLE. -

i have such great memories of this place and whenever im in the area for breakfast, its an easy decision on where to go! this place is hands down one of the best brunch places in the area. im more of a savory kind of guy for breakfast, so i love their omelets and home fries, but ive had their pancakes and fench toast also, and i have nothing bad to say about anything here.
the place has a typical diner feel to it, but the food speaks for itself. definitely a place i bring friends to impress them. -

This is my new go to place for taking visitors for breakfast as long as they are willing to wait, because I'm not alone in my love for this place.
I've had and enjoyed:
- banana pancakes (2 plate sized pancakes)
- the ringer (which is impossible for me to finish but I tried anyways)
- iced coffee! (which they kindly offered to refill)
I recently ordered takeout for lunch and it was great too.
I actually prefer to sit at the counter because it is fun to watch the kitchen work. I've never had a problem with the service because it is a diner and my expectations are for fast and courteous service. That's what I got. -

*Just changed from 4 to 5 stars...Got a personal message from the owner reaching out above and beyond. commenting on my review, chatting it up, and most importantly asking what they could do to improve. This kind of customer service is above and beyond. Deff. earned those 5 stars! Stand up establishment*
Real good breakfast sandwich!
line gets crazy long to sit in on weekend, I used to call ahead and pick up. never messed up an order. great quick service
Dont be surprised is you see some celtics poppin in before practice
saw rondo there his rookie season grabbing about 30 sandwiches now thats worth while hazing! -

I almost cried when I moved away from this place after college. Then, I moved back, and rejoiced with the happiness of a thousand magical elves.
But seriously, this place is great. The only downside is the wait on the weekends, but isn't that the mark of a great breakfast spot?
The specials list usually includes some fancy french toast combo that is almost always fantastic, and often includes the word "crunchy".
I also recommend the Ringer (i think thats what it's called?) which has a combo of eggs, hash browns, and pancakes or french toast. It's huge, it's filling, and it's the perfect cure for a hangover. -

just stopped in for breakfast and don't understand how you can mess up my simple breakfast sandwich! I ordered a breakfast sandwich with a scrambled egg and sausage on rye. the waitress was confirming the order said egg, sausage with american cheese - and I corrected her, saying no - scrambled egg with sausage on rye. what happened? I thought my order would be for what I asked for ...and sure enough when I opened the wrapper, it had american cheese on it!!
I'm lactose intolerant and specifically ordered it without cheese and ended up eating it because I didn't want to throw it away nor did I have time to go back to get the correct sandwich. it was not worth my time!
I give it 2 stars because I really love local businesses and know that they do try to do a good job. but this mistake is just stupid.
****okay - update ...the owner contacted me immediately and apologized!! that's good customer service - shows that they are accountable for their mistakes and want to rectify the situation :) so now i changed my review to 4 stars ! -

I waited in line and had really high hopes. The menu was extensive and had interesting things on it like Snickers pancakes. I was so excited. I ordered a breakfast burrito and my husband ordered an omelet. It was super plain jane and totally overrated.
The service was really good though. My waitress was super nice. -

Waltham, MA
I've been here countless times, and I have never once had anything to complain about--I should add that I view a long morning wait, which there ALWAYS is on weekends, as a good sign.
Anyways, I usually get one of three things: The Snickers pancakes, which are outrageous; The 2 egg ringer; or the Santa Fe omelet. They're all delicious, and they fill you up till well past noon. Go here for brunch and prepare to be blown away.
To top it all off, In A Pickle always throws some wacky contest related to their facebook page--which I never win, unfortunately--and they do a lot of good work in the community. So not only do they make the best breakfast around, they're cool to the commonfolk as well. Delicious food, and socially conscious to boot! What else can you ask for???
Oh, and one more thing: Why in the name of all things innocent, sweet, and holy would this place only have 4 stars?? That's borderline blasphemy. -
Review from Jennifer R.
Arlington, MA
Ok, ok it's crowded and a bit noisy and the bathroom's tiny and there's usually a line, but In A Pickle is the cheeriest little divey breakfast diner!
Yes, it's kind of a dive, even with the super-bright whitewashed everything. Yes, they've made some questionable choices in the yuck-factor of the "in a pickle" stories they post on the walls of the eatery.
But the menu is creative and tasty and you can have breakfast for lunch and the prices are reasonable. It is my top choice for going out to breakfast, as long as my party is only 2-6 people and it's not a peak time. -

Great brunch food (not fancy) for the family, at very reasonable price. Very friendly staff. Come early to avoid the wait as the place is small and in such high demand

I would eat every meal here if I could. Unfortunately they're closed for dinner. My goal is try everything on the menu. At this point I've got all the major food groups covered (french toast, bacon, pancakes and waffles) and they've all been amazing. If you get there after noon you can try lunch. The sandwiches are big and delicious. Definitely try the doritos panini. It's the greatest sandwich EVER.

In A Pickle is fun, filling and wallet friendly. It's basically a lunch counter/short order joint - so keep your expectations in check. If you can, you'll be amazed at the service and the food.
Since I work in Waltham, I've only been here at lunch-time during the week, which is generally very crowded especially later in the week (Thurs, Fri) - I can only imagine what it's like on the weekend.
The staff is friendly and helpful - never pushy. I've ordered both breakfast and lunch foods and never been disappointed. -

Average 'diner' type breakfast fare. Pleasant enough waitstaff. What bugs me is that the place is fucking filthy. Greasy walls, ketchup smears on the molding and flys. It creeps me out and therefore I won't eat here anymore.
This place needs a thorough scrub down!!!! -

in a pickle rocks. huge and varied breakfast and lunch menu, fresh ingredients, fast prep, good portions, and the best wait staff ever. the only small downside is that, since it's so great, it's very popular, so there's sometimes a line to get in. once you eat here, you'll understand why people don't mind waiting on the sidewalk!

Like this place needs another review... but thought I'd share that the food was okay, portions are big (especially the pancakes!), but service is rushed, and it's a small place and gets very crowded and wait times can be unjustifiably long. Is it the tastiest meal you'll ever have? No, but it's a great value for a stuff-your-face meal in these hard economic times.

Great breakfast place, always busy. The food is delicious, which is why there is always a line out the door on weekends! Even the ice coffee (not watered down!) isn't bad, which says a lot about a breakfast place :)
