This place doesn't really have to be that good, because there's not much competition in this town.  But they don't take advantage of that.

About 15 of us descended like locusts on the restaurant one recent evening, after a hard day of work.  We began to sit in an ever expanding group of chairs outside - 1 and 2 at a time.  Any server's worst nightmare.

They handled us like professionals - and we never once felt like we were in need of anything.   The service was noteworthy, and excellent by any standard.

The food was prepared well, with even some really good vegetarian options.  I was not disappointed in my stay here, or especially with my dinner here.

After 4 days of camping, this non-camper was DONE and wanted a civlized meal and drinks that did not involve a Coleman camp stove or a red plastic cup. Oh, and this was the weekend before last - it had been 95-100 degrees the whole time. DONE I say, DONE.

So, grumpy, hot and hungry we wandered into Imperial's bar. Air conditioning! I am already feeling better. The bartender, Kateri, quickly brought me a nice stiff Captain & Coke, and my BF a icy cold Budweiser. We are now a little in love with Kateri, but keep this to ourselves. She chatted and joked with us, all the while keeping everyone else at the bar and tables with refills and food orders.

A few drinks in, we decide to order food. Kateri's super helpful here too, and we split a spinach artichoke dip with pita and a french dip. I told her later, and this may have been the Captain talking a little bit, that the french dip was so good it wasn't fair to other food. It was really good though.

We sat on the chair swings, drinks in hand, as the sun went down over the Deschutes. This did not suck.

All in all - 5 stars for Imperial, and that's thanks not in small part to Kateri being pretty much awesome as well as a great setting and amenities, yummy food and stiff, cold drinks. Next year I'm hoping to talk the BF into at least a night's stay there as well.

5 stars because this is the best accommodations one can find in Maupin (just don't think 5 start hotel class like you may be used to). We were planning a late fall steelhead trip to celebrate JP's birthday and when I stumbled across the Imperial River Company's Lodge I felt like I had struck gold. Nice accommodations along the river AND a restaurant (which is a bonus since the town of Maupin is SMALL and even more quiet when it's not rafting season). We ended up in the bunkhouse room since we were bringing our dog, but I would love to check out the newer rooms that overlook the river and were built a couple of years ago. Our room was definitely kitschy with a cowboy mural and corresponding motif, but it was spacious and even had a fridge so we could store the snacks we brought.

Great social firepit area out back with fantastic Adirondack chairs. Made some new friends and then retired to have dinner in the bar area. I ordered the Lamb Gyro and it was some of the best lamb I have had in quite some time. JP loved his steak salad. Food and drink prices were VERY reasonable and everyone there was super social and nice.

The breakfast served the next morning consisted of bread and english muffins, some cold cereals and a couple of other things. We were in grab and go mode as we wanted to get on the river early, so not certain if they actually bring out different food later on.

Had dinner the second night in the Lodge as well. Ended up in the dining room this night since the bar lacked seating due to the OR-OR State game. Went with the BBQ beef sandwich this time and it wasn't nearly as good as my lamb gyro, but still tasty. JP had the Imperial Steak sandwich which he enjoyed. Service in the dining room was much slower than what we had experienced the night before, but they only had one server on and a fairly busy room. All in all we enjoyed our time in Maupin and are thankful that a place like the Imperial Lodge exists in an otherwise sleepy little town.  No TVs/phone made for a quiet and relaxing get-away.

Nicest place in town!  A clean, green oasis right on the banks of the Deschutes River. A recently renovated lodge with brand new river view rooms. My S.U. and I spent a July 4 weekend there to escape the firecracker noise in PDX. We stayed in one of the smaller themed rooms (fishing) that was very nice.  Faux fishing poster painted on the wall and quotations from Rancid Crabtree,  the fishing writer Patrick McMannus's character, on the walls. Nice!!  It's on a flat stretch of the river just upstream of the city park so you can get in and out of the river if you're willing to brave the 'coolness'. 'There are swings in the shade by the river for quiet contemplation. It was perfectly quiet and relaxing.

What was remarkable was the restaurant. The place is run by a member of the family that owns the giant Imperial Ranch in Oregon so all the beef and lamb comes from the Ranch. Damn! I had a fine sirloin steak for dinner one night, a lamb gyro for lunch. S.U. flipped over her NY steak. Another night, venison medallions with an nice Pinot Noir by the glass. MMmm. Not too expensive either.

Since it is in Maupin, the Deschutes River rafting town, they also run their own trips. We did a sweet 13 mile half day trip that was just enough to justify doing nothing else but read, eat, swim and sleep the rest of the time. I want to go back and try the place in the winter.

Very fun trip with this company. They are professional, relaxed, fun and safe, just what you'd want on a rafting trip. I thought Phil our guide was excellent. Our group of 4 had a great experience. I'm looking forward to another trip.

Dammit Bob S!  I thought I was going to be the first to review this place.  Great guides, fun time.  I'm still swaying back and forth from all the rapids we went over.  :)

My family and I caught on to a sensational GROUPON coupon and got a great deal with a full day guided water rafting trip.  It even came with lunch.  We had a fabulous guide, Phil, who has been manning the river for over 20 years.  He's fun, thrilling and unexpected just like the Deschutes River.  He had interesting stories and facts about the river and territory and we learned everything from wildlife to Indian tribes to railroad history to safety on the river.  We were treated first class, even though we were coupon users, as many of us were.  The drive was just two hours for us to Maupin, but a beautiful ride all the way.  The river was full and wild, we had quite the workout riding these rapids.  It was well worth anything we paid and more.  Oh.  The lunch was wonderful with vegan options:  local beef hamburgers; veggieburgers; chickenburgers; two salads, chips, fresh fruit, cookies and drinks.  It was a wonderful day and now I'm tired......so signing off.

Honestly, if there was an option for more the 5 stars, I'd use it ONLY for this place.
The town of Maupin is by far my favorite place in Oregon. I would love to live here once I am done with my schooling.
I've been going to Maupin for the past 3 years and every time I go, I HAVE to spend some time at the Imperial.
I have done two guided full day river trips with them and each time it's been amazing and informative. The guides are always silly and willing to let you get out and float through a few of the rapids.
Each individual trip has a special memory that I hold dear to me.
...and the food UGH!! the food! It's magnificent!! I love their steak sandwiches but the best thing (in my opinion) is the Oaks Springs chicken, which is somewhat of a special request because it isn't always on the menu.
Their are very reasonably priced, especially in winter. I went over Valentine's day weekend and spent only $89 for my boyfriend, dog and myself to stay overnight.
I love this place so much! It's a great get away to just remove ourselves from the noises of our busy everyday lives, even if it is only for the weekend.

I recently took my little bro on a full-day trip on the Deschutes with these folks, and it was all-around fabulous. We went on a Sunday, so there were quite a few of us, but they efficiently split us into three pods (about 13-14 folks in each pod, so two boats each) and got us on the river soon after the scheduled start time. The trip is organized so that you miss most of the crowds - we started at Maupin, headed north down the river, bussed around a class 6 rapid (nobody's allowed to go down that rapid in a boat), rafted a few more miles, then they bussed us back to their property in Maupin for a delicious lunch before bussing us down south to raft the last few miles back to Maupin. It might sound like a lot of bussing, but it was all done very smoothly, and provided a good opportunity to rehydrate and re-apply the sunblock.

Not to mention that the Deschutes River is just plain gorgeous and a mere 2 hours from Portland. The guides know what they're doing; they kept us entertained and safe at all times. I'm hoping to make this trip an annual summer tradition, and wouldn't hesitate to return to the river with these guys!
