Mike & I just got back from an overnight stay at the Imperial Hotel in Amador City.  I agree with the first post, this is a great old building that's been nicely restored and the location was perfect to road trip/wine taste the area.  We walked around Amador City (in 5 minutes) both in the evening and the morning, which is totally cute. in the morning we went to the bakery up the street after breakfast just to get some cookies for the road.  I wisht i would have picked up one of their sandwiches though...they looked the shizzle.

The staff is nice & welcoming.  We stayed in Room 6.  The room was clean and the bed was comfortable except they really should invest in some feather pillows (maybe there were some in the wardrobe but I didn't check) but the bed was comfy and all in all the room was fine, though I hated seeing curtain pulls with out curtains or even sheers (budget).  There is Trader Joe's products in the shower (much more sustainable than having little bottles of things) and a nice towel warmer.  Cozy!  There was a stand alone heater in the bedroom so we didn't have any temperature issues.

After a G&T in the bar, we ate that night in the restaurant.  For appetizers, we had the pumpkin raviolis and beet salad - both were good.  For our entree we had the pork chop (with a yummy pear topping) and the duck (with a yummy raseberry port reduction) -both were yummy yummy and again the wait staff were attentive and very nice.  For dessert we had only the expresso ice-cream which is served with pieces of dark mint chocolate -perfect!!  we had nice local wine -Cooper Sauvignon Blanc with dinner (we're on a white wine kick!) and local port with dessert.  We then went to the bar and some locals were there (it was halloween), everyone was very nice and conversation was struck up easily.  We went up to bed at about 10ish.

Next morning the breakfast was served -bacon and eggs, pretty run of the mill.  eggs were scrambled with 2 peices of bacon and one piece of raisin toast. in reality i could have eaten double what was served but did i need to? HA!

We had a nice visit in Amador City and the next day we went to Cooper and bought a few bottles of wine for the upcoming season.

Not the nicest place I've ever stayed but it was OK. The room was decent, location nice. However, the restaurant staff were outside below our window talking until 11:45PM which was annoying. That, and the breakfast was just a piece of quiche. A great piece of quiche mind you, but for how much you pay to stay here it would have been nice to get a little more.  Anywho, overall it was OK, but there was definitely no "wow" factor. Oh yeah, and the bar was pretty cool.

This review is for the hotel, above the restaurant.

I just love this building - great atmosphere, very charming rooms, neat place to stay overnight when wine tasting at the great  newwineries springing up in Amador County.

So why only 2 stars? - well, it's actually a 4 star buidling but I had a 1 star stay.  At 11:30 pm we were awakened by music blasting from the bar below - it turned out that the owners - yes, the owners! - were having a little party while shutting down the bar  Never mind their guests sleeping upstairs.

They were pretty apologetic, turned the music off right away.  I go back upstairs, go back to sleep and then suddenly,, it must have been about 2 am, my fiancee and  I wake up sweating bullets.  Heat is blasting out of the duct in the ceiling 15 feet above the bed.  The room is like a sauna but the ceiling is too high to reach the duct to close it.  There is no heat control in the room so my fiancee tries to go out to the hallway to find a thermostat.  But it's pitch dark - somebody has turned off all of the lights and you can't see anything!  Talk about a hazard - this can't be to code.  The owners have left the building for the night and left the guests to fend for themselves.

We retreat back to the room, open the window and try to get back to sleep but the hotel is at the top of a busy highway incline so we listen to big trucks strain up the incline all night long.

Bottom line - real charming place, but the owners have no clue how to run a hotel.  I hear the restaurant is better.  If you stay, bring earplugs and a flashlight.
