We came here on a Friday night? And I had walked with Nancy and her cousin all the way from Front x Drumm area... SOOO far away =(  So naturally before we even get to where we're going which is Horizon, I have a blister on my foot the size of a quarter and i'm DYING!! I swear it hurt =( This is the same night i got my heel caught in a grate and was left behind lol.. good times..

Long story short we get to Impala and for $15 and a punch in the back by an inebriated fool on his way into a wall, I finally have somewhere to sit!! Thank GOD! This place has so much seating its ridiculous. There's a downstairs that I never made it to and at the end of the night the lame bartender was shooting soda at some patron which she obviously didn't realize  she kept hitting me and a few others. Pfft, had my foot not been throbbing I would have chewed her out. Rudeness.

I would definitely come back here. Oh the music wasn't that great but Nancy said downstairs was better.

ok this place is seriously not that bad it all depends on the day that you go. Thursdays is always fun. I went there this past Thursday, it was the 49er after party and the place was full of people. The crowd was diverse and it wasn't ghetto like other nights.

I went for my girl's birthday and we all loved the music. The bartenders are always nice and the drinks actually aren't watered down! Obviously..being that we were all pretty wasted. I'd go here again depending on the night and event.

I have been going to Impala off and on for years now....I even spent my new years eve hear a couple years back.

Well, I went last weekend, and that is the last time i will go to Impala..

Why???

1. We arrived in line at 10:30 and waited for 30 minutes to get into club

2. When we were in the club, GHET-TO crowd! Whoa! I mean we chose not to stay in SJ for the ghetto clubs, but damn this place was ghetto!!

3. Me & my boyfriend went downstairs to check that dance floor out (in hopes of a less ghetto scene down there) and we were stopped by the bouncer because even though I am free, my bf needs to pay an xtra $5 to get in and he can go back upstairs to pay...Wha?? me thinks not, espically after we already wasted $40 in this shithole!

4. We go outside to smoke a cig.....guy gives us a stamp & lets us know to go back thru the front door....BUT when we do, RUDE bouncer man looks at our hand stamps and says no, we have to wait back in line! Really?? After paying $40 we have to wait back in line for a 1/2 hour??

5. We go to end of line and wait.  Well, while in line, 1 guy is outside by front door and other guy comes from in club and they start exchanging words and are about to fight....LAME. 10 min later, my & my bf are STILL standing in the same friggen spot in line. Im like screw this, lets go home!!

6. Music SUCKED!!  They played Kelis..my neck my back....2 pac, biggie....and like NO club hits :(

Impala I have loved you for Many years, but I am sorry to say this relationship is over! lol. I dont know what happened to your club but iut sure has gone down the drain!

Oh can I just say at least the bartender was very nice & quick!

Last Saturday 10/17/09 was my first time ever going here. I would say it's not the best club, but what I did like was that they have sitting areas so if you are tired you can always sit on the side sofas or small tables.

The music they played here on a Saturday was a mixer of hip-hop, pop, r&b. It does get pretty packed in there and feels really hot as if there is no ventilation. I personally WouLD NOT GO BACK.

BTW: bathrooms are pretty clean and have supplies you can use, you just have to pay $1.00 (i.e. perfume, lipstick, mascara, etc) I never had seen that in a Woman's bathroom. LOL

Typical Broadway lounge...But I really liked the decor and the extensive varieties of tequila. Plenty of seating w/ out being VIP or paying for a bottle, so I deff appreciate that!

But this place is deff. less then classy...and the DJ was barely ok...maybe I just wasn't feeling the mix of LMFAO and Sean Kingston...isk maybe it was me...

My drink was cool $10 Beautiful...not bad...but not great...

Ill add this place to my lounge list on Broadway...

this club (bar with dance floors is more like it) is bootilicious. literally thats what you see when you come in. booty everywhere. dont expect the upscale swank club when you come here. this place has got (big) booty shaking girls everywhere. drinks are decently priced, crowd is pretty diverse with minorities (note: barely any white ppl here), and the music rocks my head off!

would i return? of course not. but thats bc i im too old for this.

I just came here yesterday for the block party . The club is okay ... it's pretty big & spacious . There's sofas to sit on and there's a good amount of space for dancing . There's also a small VIP room downstairs . I don't like the security though ... they do too much . They checked my ID twice and FRISKED me which made me feel very uncomfortable and awkward . Never have I ever went to a club and got frisked like that before ... they usually use one of those metal detector things or just let me go . I mean ... REALLY , what can my I possibly hide in my tanktop and shortshorts ? The club is alright but I don't think I will ever be back because I do not want to get frisked like that again .

Hello, everyone! First time review writer, long time Yelp follower here. I've always thought, "what's my two-cents going to matter on Yelp?" That is...until that fateful night one year ago...

It was in November last year, I ventured out to Impala for a dear friend's birthday. Despite the crowd that was shadier than what's-under-the-tree-on-a-blazing-day, we had fun. After all, nothing can ruin a 21st celebration. Right?

Few drinks down and lots of dancing later, a few of us decided to get some fresh air outside along with the birthday girl. I guess I spoke too soon about the not having anything bring us down part. As we headed back, the bouncers blocked our way. Without looking, he barked, "You can't go back in!" Fellow Yelpers, I swear on my friend's birthday that we were definitely not drunk.  Buzzed, yes. Who isn't? Until this day, I can still vividly describe the bouncers' physical appearances. Of course, we asked nicely and tried to reason. Again and again. After all, a busload of people inside were celebrating the birthday girl. What's a party without her? Nope. He was entirely unreasonable. Shame on you, you obnoxious, heartless, rude bouncer. What kind of person makes people cry on their own birthday?

Right there and then, I vowed to the witnesses around, "I know when I am drunk. And I'm definitely not right now. I can walk a straight line!! AND THIS IS GOING INTO MY YELP REVIEW!!!"

Indeed, I walked the walk (photo proof exists) and talked the talk.

I hope you'll provide justice. So help me, Yelp.

Had my ladies night out last Friday. Went to a few clubs before making a stop at Impala.
I give this club 2 stars just because we didn't actually go inside.
We didn't make it inside because the security at the door (not sure if it was a dude or a girl) wanted to frisk us. Hell to the NO they were not about to touch us. I was wearing a dress and there was no way any kind of weapon was going to be hidden anywhere.
Advice to them is that they should just get those hand held metal detector thingy. I've been to plenty of clubs and I've never had to be frisked. Ugh. So me and my girls headed back to Horizon and then to Apartment 24. At least the security there were super friendly and not at all GHETTO!

Went here last Sat with some homies and I never had as much of a gripe with how things were run at a club than with this place.

Alright so we arrive and line up at the guestlist line.  I check my phone and it's only about 10:20 so I was pretty confident we would get in because we were only about 20ft from the entrance to the club.  As soon as we got to the front of the line, we were stopped as some other line was allowed to go in.  We figured they were just rotating the lines so it wasn't really a problem until they were letting a whole other party in on that same side.  They probably let in about 30 people before they finally let us in but it was already too late to make guestlist.  We realized that when we got to the desk, they stopped guestlist, which is bullshit because we were all in line together and the rest of our party got in before us but we got held back and now we're forced to pay??  If it stopped there then I probably would've gave this place three stars but then it just kept going downhill from there.

When we went to go join our party downstairs, we realized that you needed a VIP stamp to get into that section.  We went back upstairs but the lady at the desk wasn't really willing to give us one.  One of the girls of our party had to push the issue just so that we could be with the rest of the group.  After we got downstairs, we ordered a round of silverbacks but it was just red bull and 151... no hypnotiq??  Then I ordered an AMF in this dinky glass and at that point I thought "fuck this" and just decided to enjoy myself best I could.

Music was alright but not crackin.. I probably wouldn''t come back here again if it weren't one of the venues for the block party this Sat so we'll have to see if it improves itself by then.

First time going to Impala.  Its been a few years since I gone clubbing.  The reason why was I felt old but last Friday night. I wanted to go dancing since I have not been for awhile.

Overall the club was not bad and has two floors.  Top floor is the main and the bottom one is for VIP and after a certain hour, they open to everyone.  The Bartenders are cute and they made a mean chocolate drink that I don't remember what's its called but it tasted hella good.

Parking was hard to find unless you park far and walk over.

Thanks for inviting me out Sarah. I had a great and fantastic time.

Ghetto is as ghetto does.

Needless to say, this place is ghetto and full of really young obnoxious people. I question if half of that club was even 21! I felt like they were all younger than that, I scratched  my head for a sec and thought that maybe it's turned into an 18 and over club? BAD, I know.

I think I'd like to do more of 2.5 star rate, but obviously I can't.  It is super ghetto, but hey the music is actually pretty good.  It seems to be our last minute bar when we are tired of the fake posh clubs in the city and we just want some fun hip hop or latin music in the downstairs.  I'm not to sure of the drink prices because I haven't had to pay, but my friends say they are pretty decent.  I wouldn't recommend this place if you are wanting a fun SF experience at a club, but it's an OK fall back place.

Got hooked up here by a friends friend...VIP treatment all the way.  Pretty cool, but sorry Impala I will have to agree with everyone else...GHETTO.  The DJ sucked, decor, space, feel, and the crowd was AWWWWWKWARD...upside down turtle AWWWWWKWARD. Oh and the VIP room closed, why?  As sad as the crowd was to begin with, but they closed it cause no one was down there.  WOW...haha...

One good thing was able to meet a few other cool out of towners that made the evening a little better....;-)

Meh.  After leaving Bubble Lounge, we hauled ass up to Broadway to stop by Impala.  Supposedly Impala is one of the hotter spots on Broadway Friday nights, Level Fridays!  My friends come here a lot, but this was my first time here.  Arriving shortly before 1am, I called one of my friends so he could hook it up for us, but *gasp* I had to pay cover.  $10!  Yeah, that was discount.

We get inside, another mixed crowd..more of a cockfest than anything.  More people who don't apologize when they STOMP on your feet.  This guy literally used both of his hands to push me out of the way.  I yelled at him and he gave me a half ass apology "my bad"

Go for free...don't bother if you need to pay cover.

Word of advice:

-If a girl pretends not to see you when you are trying to talk to her, she's not interested.

-If a girl is dancing and you start dancing near her and she suddenly stops or grabs one of her friends and uses that friend as a barrier between you, she clearly doesn't want to dance with you.

- "Hey, hey, hey" is not going to get you any attention, us females aren't horses.  To add to that, please do not grab my arm and attempt to pull me towards you.

There was a pest of a fella that embodied all of the above that tried following my friend and I around the whole night.  He was like a cockroach, despite our clear attempts to rid him, he kept crawling back.  As far as the venue, it was "alright".  The music needs to be a tad louder and the DJ needs to stop butchering classics with annoying house music and terrible song transitions.  As far as the drinks, the bartender really hooked it up.  A round of 10 shots of Goose for $30.  Good times.

-1 because the men inside were sleazy and the dance floor downstairs was closed to the general public so it was a packed.  Also, I stupidly drunk texted someone I shouldn't that night.  Stupid, stupid Jackie!  Why?!?!?!?!

WASTED WEDNESDAYS!

-Bored on Wednesday?
-Off on Thursday?
-Working on Thursday but have too many problems on Wednesday?
-A perfect time and place for drinks, appetizers and to catch up with friends.

Just say FCUK IT and get your $2-you-name-its: $2 beer, cocktails, tacos & burritos!  They also have yummy sangria and quesadillas.  You don't have to get wasted, but there's no harm in trying!  (Where else are you gonna get $2 cocktails?)

Oh--and other nights as well, you can dine here and head downstairs to the bar/lounge without having to wait in line and pay a cover.

Ever supportive of a friend's romantic endeavors, I accompanied her and some friends to a LevelSF(?) promotion at Impala, playing my part as spotter/bodyguard/wingman/drunkness-barometer/defa ult-dance partner/flirtation-baseline/guy-in-pictures-w/tong ue-out...

... you know?  I was being me.

With access to the VIP area (simply but effectively a bouncer-secured lower floor), we only briefly passed through the upper/Broadway level.  Sketchy... the vibe on that upper floor immediately rings of meat market; with most of the action converged near the L-shaped bar or gathered in predatory packs encircling the would-be dance floor.  Adding to the slight "ick" factor, what little ambient lighting there is seems to come from whatever passes through the restaurant windows, leaving dirty deeds to be done in dark places.  Thankfully, the lovelies and I were whisked down the stairs and past the velvet rope into the VIP room, a more voguish environ.

Where the decor upstairs is mainly wood and wrought-iron (great for a restaurant, not so much for a bar/lounge/club), the style downstairs (serving as a VIP area) is velvet, leather, and black lacquer, providing a chic departure in both aesthetic, audience, and vibe.

An abundance of seats, couches and booths make the room comfortable and social, while a decent DJ/playlist stirs up any dancing (not necessarily constrained to any area).

The service at this smaller bar was notably efficient and hospitable; due in parts to the lesser/controlled occupancy of the VIP area (little more than half the size of the upstairs area) and to the ample-staffing (3 bartenders and a barback!).  We were rarely without drinks...

Cool how friendly and flirtation escalates when the crowd is grown-n-secksy, liquor flows, and the vibes are right...

4-stars for the event; when everything falls into place, it's good!
3-stars for objectivity; I know its not always like that.

Douche-heaven.

It used to be a cool place when it was the Black Cat with a downstairs jazz bar.  Now it's a typical tacky bar/club/restaurant on Broadway that attracts the weekend warriors.

Job well done for my bday bash here.  Setting it up was so easy.  I was able to email them my guestlist and yes they were very accomodating to my 400+ guests.  Not sure if everyone showed up but heck they let all my guests free in all night with ins and outs to hop across the street to the other clubs.  As for my party guests...I am truly sorry if I missed you.  I can only blame it on the shots that kept getting bigger and bigger.

Thanks for making this bday as memorable as it was (well at least the bits and pieces that I can remember)!!!

Stopped by here on Saturday night since I put us on the free guest list before 11PM and so we just walked in to check it out, since my friends have never been to Broadway at night.

One of my friends looked at the bright lights as we drove by saying, "Damn!  I feel like I'm in Vegas." due to all the bright lights hailing from the bars, lounges, clubs, liquor stores, restaurants, strip clubs, coffee shops, etc. that you can find around this area on Broadway.

This place has potential with the right promoters and crowd.  I'd say the people here are mostly 25-30 year old European, Asian, and Black folks with more guys than girls, which isn't a good thing as always (since it's cool for girls to dance with girls, but not for guys to dance with guys, unless there's some circle action going on, but then you know the place is pretty ghetto when you start seeing a lot of that going on).  I like how they have the DJ set up behind the bar upstairs and I like the small dance floor area and couch set up downstairs by the bar, but I didn't like how on Saturday, we couldn't even walk into that area since the big Samoan bouncer said it was VIP Guest List only, since I guess they had a private party down there.

Walked by Bamboo Hut and Dragon Bar and the crowds didn't look as poppin or like our type of folks, and across the street at places like Apartment 24, it seemed more upscale and dress up lounges/clubs.

Sutra on the other hand looked poppin, but it looked like everyone had to be dressed up and that they'd be charging a $10-$20 cover over there, and we didn't have dress shoes on.  The line looked pretty much all Asian though, but it looked like more of our kind of crowd than the other spots we walked by on Broadway.

No, no, no.

Came here on a random Saturday night just to see how it was - guessed wrong! Paid an obscene cover to get into this shithole!!!

Extremely crowded since downstairs was cut off!! The dance floor was small and packed full of a yucky, ghetto sort of crowd -- the kinda of crowd who were too broke to go to the neighboring strip clubs and found themselves here!

What I witnessed: a group of Indians who were jumping up and down, bumping into everyone in the middle of dance floor, Asian thugs trying to act hard and 2 Caucasian males groping a drunk girl on the dance floor -- TRUE story!!

I don't mind drinking and letting loose at a club/lounge but this place was too dirty for my taste!

NEVER again, Impala. NEVER AGAIN!

PS. They serve 151 here -- don't ask me how I know!

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I cannot believe people pay to get into this joint. I would never pay to get in, and thank god I didn't. The promoter didn't want me and my friend to leave and he got us in for free....but we should've ran when we had the chance!

I should've known this would have been a ghetto when they started frisking the guys and checking the purses of every single girl. I know North Beach is already an unclassy area but still...frisking? Invasion of privacy? It's not like the girls there can sneak a weapon in their small little fake LV or Coach bags anyway.

The crowd was just as interesting as the venue. Totally not my scene at all...unless you're into the whole wannabe gangster crowd and the fat hoodrat hootchie mama skanks who SHOULD NOT be wearing dresses that tight or shirts that cropped...then by all means come here.

Oh and I couldn't agree more with the "high school dance" comparison. Men there are creeps who like to watch their creepy women getting down on the floor.

The music sucked and the go-go dancer was fat. The end.

One of the ghettoest clubs in SF. No wonder this club is called Impala. The music was okay, but the DJ was horrible. There was nobody on the dance floor and he kept playing the same songs. The DJ downstairs in the VIP party was playing better songs, but then again the crowd did not make this place any better. Also, the cover charge seemed to be inconsistent because I was charged $15, while my friend was only charged $10. Definitely not the place to go while visiting SF, should have checked out Horizon which is the club across the street.

So you want a scaled down venue of the club rat experience? HERE YOU GO! There is no question that the music here gets you moving, but the crowd...oh dear the crowd...can get rowdy.

Even with 2 floors this place is crowded. It is hot and impossible to make it anywhere through the club. If you found a standing spot, best believe you are going to be there ALL NIGHT.

Drinks are a bit pricey and always watered down. The bartenders are fast, but not the best trained.

I went here once on a Thursday night. No cover so why not?
I got here around 10:30ish and the place was EMPTY! Like really, I was the first one there. So I gabbed it up with the bartenders which was a good thing cuz when I went to get drinks later in the night, they hooked it up super fast.
I wasn't feeling the music at all (they were the same DJ's as Suite 181).
Guys were hit or miss too. They had some really dorky Asian guys and some really cute European guys.
The dance area is kinda weird and crowded and all the restaurant chairs line the dance floor. It's like they pushed back all the tables to to make a makeshift club.
It wasn't bad but it wasn't all that good either. The only time I would ever go here again is if it's free and it's a stop over to a real club.

it's really a hit or miss place.
Don't expect any pretty people, in fact it can turn ghetto depending on the night.
They let in too many guys AND they make you pay cover.. and as a girl I expect to never pay any cover... not cool. But nevertheless, if I had to choose a club in that area it'd be this one.

Crowd is too young and immature and lame. They have a downstairs section and that was fun but again the crowd even there (in the vip area) was kinda lame. Why do so many kids come here? I think the average age was like 22. The club itself is really nice downstairs.. too bad for the crowd :(

Almost had to pay cover here.. but one of my friends was nice enough to work her stufff and got all of us in for free! yay GIRLS!!!

Decor: kind of funky i may say.. I don't really get the WHOLE theme of it..
Space: two levels.. spacious.. i wouldn't of known there was a bottom level if i didn't go to the bathroom.  There was a private party going on downstairs so they blocked it off.. but somehow at the end of the night, one of my friends and I randomly just busted in.. it was fun and packed! while upstairs was getting less crowded!

Drinks: normal.. average SF price!

People: a mix. definite mix. you won't get your asian invasion nights.. maybe depending on the promoter

Lots of chairs around to chill and sit at.. dance floor in the center.. nothing to special about this place that screams to me COME BACK AGAIN!!!!

Good drinks, good music, and free entrance makes for a good night, and Impala has all those things. I went on a Thursday night, not expecting much but I was surprised that the place was packed. The DJ played a good mix of hip hop and R & B, he also threw in some bay music which most people can appreciate. Although I hate this area because parking is so bad, but I can definitely see myself coming here again. If you go you definitely wanna get there early, because the parking is horrendous.

Oh yeah they have pretty good GO-GO dancers too!

Came here for a get together some of my cousins and some of my friends. We got VIP, but oddly enough with VIP came no bottle service. Weird.

The main dance floor and bar area was decent, extremely packed when i went and the bar was large and plenty of room to get a drink. The VIP room downstairs is much smaller with no real dance floor, more like an aisle where you can dance per se. The bar was easy to get to and the drinks were expensive. What I did like though was the to get into the VIP area you needed to get through a bouncer, thus keeping it exclusive, but then again that's what you pay for right?

Tips and pointers:
-Dress code isn't strict, but I felt as if a lot of people were dressed nicer than others
-Drinks can get pricey (mixed), beer is cheap
-Bathrooms all have lines and are really cramped, smell like urine as well.
-Sometimes attracts a sketchier type of crowd that just got out from the strip clubs next door

P.S. that picture of that girl dancing with the rainbow socks makes me not want to go to Impala ever again. (((SHUDDER)))

I SORT OF APPROVE!

Review is for the club, not the restaurant. I'm giving Impala one star for the following reasons:

The crowd reminded me of a ghetto United Nations. Everywhere I looked were gangbangers of every race getting crunk, drunk, high, and stepping all over my toes. Short little dudes that can't dance were all over the floor.

***

The music was ok. I would say I liked one in every two songs the DJ played. Too bad the half of the time I wanted to dance, I was busy fending off humanity's hyphy-style rejects.

***

They have some weird gothic hell theme going on (complete with creepy little masks on the walls).

***

Did I mention that the last time I went here, someone stole my jacket? I'm still mad about that.

***

Thanks to Impala, I now know how guys feel when they get ignored by male bartenders at clubs. After being dissed by the two upstairs female bartenders in favor of their male customers, I venture into the basement. I spy a bar with two more bartenders. YES! One of them is a guy. I make a beeline for the bar and have a Grey Goose shot in front of me in less than five minutes.

About 20 minutes later, I made another attempt at the upstairs bar. This time I positioned myself directly in front of the Asian chick in the red shirt. She glanced right. She glanced left. I stared at her. I was obviously the only one who wanted a drink. I was then treated to the rudest bar service I've ever had.

"WHAT?" She asked me.

I gave her my standard order and she placed my shot in front of me. I pulled out my credit card for the 2nd time that evening.

"$20 minimum," she said.

"Uhh... I just got a shot downstairs a few minutes ago and there wasn't a $20 minimum."

"My bad," she said, with a little laugh (obviously she didn't feel bad at all).

"Fine," I said, "I don't want it." She stared at me balefully.

"Do you want to order another shot?"

"No."

"Umm.. do you have cash?"

"No."

She considered me for a moment longer, then shrugged. "Ok, fine." And then she took my card. I guess that $20 minimum isn't a hard and fast rule... remember to bargain, folks. And don't back down from that beeyotch. I feel like I should've really played hardball and asked her to discount the price of the drink.

***

Last but not least, I HATE parking on Broadway. I can't ever find a spot and always have to hike up to the club from the Embarcadero, during which I'm forced to endure the gauntlet of A Thousand Catcalls.

Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else...

Aww... I must have come here on the wrong night (Thursday - Hip Hop night). The crowd was dressed way too casual for going out (I felt like I was back in Jville, bleh), the music wasn't what I enjoyed dancing to (i'm into House music), and the place was too small and limited to only the top floor (however, the bottom level looked really nice when I took a peek at it -- it was the very reason why my friend took me here, but it was closed).

On the plus side, the decor looked really nice, everyone was having a good time and enjoying the music, and there were no stupid fights like what usually happens in my town.

Just plain obnoxious. I guess this just not my scene, so the second star is charity. The place itself looks nice, and the music is well suited to its purpose, but people here just want to be in your face for no good reason.

Although, I've only been there one night, I felt like it was totally not my scene.  The night I went, there was some promotion for go go girls, and I loved that- to say the least :) But my experience there over-ruled the hot chicks in kinky wear...

Not only was there a $10 cover for this small venue, but the drinks were overpriced and the atmosphere was not all that great.  We were bombarded by 30 year old "wanna-be" gangster guys, who were swimming in there clothes.  Let me add, some had "grills" or expensive dentures that looked tacky and immature.  There were girls who wore clothes they shouldn't be wearing...   The music was Hip-Hop, but I was not feeling the DJ's mixing.  I don't like the fact that the smoking section is right next to the dance floor, and every breath you take is like taking in second hand smoke.

Wouldn't go back to this place.

Would I pay a $20 cover here? No... Would I pay a $10 cover here? Probably not... Would I pay a $5 cover here? Maybe... Will I go in when it's free? Yup! But there are very few places where I'm actually willing to pay a cover charge...

I was good friends with the manager here before he left for Vegas which had made this bar super fun. Impala also used to have a great taco Tuesday (there food is really good but otherwise expensive!) but they stopped that too... I still love the downstairs level though and the usually really good music. The drinks are a bit more expensive than they should be but really the great music makes up for it... I usually really like the crowd here too though it's often a bit random. Fun to go out to Impala with a group of girl friends to dance!
