I was going here for about a year, then my thread-ist (?) left.  Boo.  I decided to come back after several months because I know they open shop pretty early (9-ish).  The woman who helped me was great!  She threaded my eyebrows and lip super fast and the shape of my eyebrows are awesome!  It cost $13 for both which is the standard price (at least in Sunnyvale), and the best part is... she is there every day of the week!!! :)  She took me as a walk-in, but will also take appointments.

The salon itself is always busy and pretty clean, so I feel comfortable going there.  

Yay for shapely eyebrows!

Wow - - Kokila Aunty is an awesome lady.  -Beautiful too-

I needed to get my hair and make-up done for my engagement this past weekend and she was perfect.  I was referred to her by my fiance's aunt (as they are friends) and was kind of nervious to give my face and hair to a lady I've never met.  So I got onto to Yelp to see if there were any horror stories . . . before I went to her....none - so I was relieved.

She was nice enough to wake up early to see me - and called me a few times before the appointment and made sure I brought my outfit so the makeup wouldn't clash.  Also just incase, I brought my foundation too.   Anyhow shes was nice and motherly....turns out I ended up knowning her daughter thru a friend of a friend.  
----Anyways Back to my review----
Since I brought picture of the kind of hairstlye I wanted - It made the job all that much easier.  She was friendly, nice and a very warm person...I can't stop saying how nice she was, because she totally calmed me down before the big event (which was only 45mins away) She recommeneded a few other styles for me - as my hair is very thick and long - but I kept my simple curls. My make-up consisted of eyeliner, a lil sparkling eyeshadow (every gurl loves a lil extra sparkle) and a touch of blush. I reeeeeeaaaaally liked my look!!! My friends and family were like OoooooAaaaaaOoooooAaaaa, so I'm happpy. The foundation she put on my face wasn't heavy or caky. She really listenen to what I was requesting and DEFINITELY DELIEVED!!!!

I will recommend her to anyone needing help with hair and make-up for events.  She is a happening lady, very cute, funny and knows her stuff....The salon offers alot of services so drop by and check them out.

Long ago, in a far-away place called Sunnyvale, a lonely and recent transplant to the Bay Area found solace and beauty therapy from non other than Kokila Shah at Image U.S.A. Beauty Salon.  I can gush for a while about this place, so allow me to be more organized:

The Services: Hair Style, Color, Treatment, Perms, Facials, Threading, Waxing, Skin treatments, Manis, Pedis, Men's haircuts, and multiple languages (Hindi, Gujurati, Vietnamese, and more).

The Owner: Kokila Shah: Licensed Cosmetologist in both the U.S. and India.  She does everything except the nail services.

The Clientèle: Mostly suburban women, 10% men, all ages.

Most popular services: Threading and Haircuts.

Why I love it: Kokila's objective is to make you look great, and feel incredible.  I walk out of my appointments feeling completely put together and ready to present myself to the world.   I also really appreciate her because she'll be the one to tell you if your hair style is hideous in the nicest possible way, and then collaboratively decide on a new look to make you feel amazing -- in a way that isn't drastic and life-altering.  She has fixed so many of my haircut/color disasters, and also gets me out of my comfort zone in trying new and more up to date styles.  

I also love how my eyebrows look when she threads!  She's a genius!

Get your eyebrows shaped via threading, you will love it.   And if you are like me and prone to having bad haircuts or ones that just don't grow properly, then go to Image U.S.A. and have them hook it up.

I had heard of threading before, but never had it done.  Partially because I didn't know where to go!

Over the weekend, I was reading the online version of the Mercury News when there was a little blurb on the home page about threading.  It specifically mentioned Image USA Salon so I decided to give it a shot.  I called around 2pm and was able to get a 4pm appointment that day.

I had no idea what to expect, but did some quick research and found that it is apparently less painful then waxing.

Let me start off by saying that it IS less painful, but it isn't pain free.  :)  You are still having hair pulled out so there is going to be some feeling there.  It is WAY better than waxing though and I have a feeling it will be less painful as I continue to go.  With waxing there is the possibility of being burned (which has happened to me) so that is never fun.  Also, just the simple process of peeling off hardened wax hurts, but then to have to endure tweezing too is what kills me.  Don't even get me started on the after waxing breakouts!

Threading is the way to go and this salon was really great.   I will absolutely go back!

Kokila is totally the mother of this salon - you'll be able to pick her out immediately. I think she's the only one that does threading (they have Vietnamese stylists doing hair and nails) but she was very fast and efficient. FYI, she's on vacation until 1/22/07.

$10 for eyebrows, which is a little more than other Indian places I've read about. The awesome thing is that their hours are super convenient and they'll take last minute appointments (salons usually laugh at me if I ask for a same-day brow appointment).  I called at 4pm on the day before New Year's Eve and she said I could come in at 5:30!  Of course, when I got there she was running way behind so I ran errands and came back in an hour.  I'll update this review if/when I go back.

Augh! My worst fear about eyebrow hair removal came true!

I will never return.  She actually pinched my eyelid in the thread and removed the top layer of skin cells!

I've been going to Kokila for eyebrow threading for 3 years and haven't found anyone else that can do what she does.    Her appt. scheduling is flexible and I've always gotten in on the same day.   A photographer/make up artist was so impressed with her work, he said "she captured your arch perfectly."   I don't know what that means exactly but I like the result, natural and cleaned up but not overly plucked.  She charges $10 which is comparable to others that I've tried.

This is a very good place to get eyebrows threaded (the INDIAN way).  Kokila does a great job, very accomodating.  I just just got my hair cut with her for the first time and loved it!
You do need appointments, though.
