Il Scalino means "little step", and it sums up this tiny delicatessen in Little Italy quite perfectly.  From walking up the little steps into the shop, to the cosy interior, this is a tiny Italian heaven.  From the delectable meats, outstanding cheeses, and a gloriously eclectic wine selection, it's hard not to smile from the second you enter, to the time you've taken your last bite of the food you bought a week or two later.  Then you smile knowing you'll be heading back again soon.

All of their food and goods are imported from Italy, and it is the knowledge of what they are selling that makes them stand out head and shoulders above 'the competition'.  The owner, Rocko DiPietro, knows everything there is to know about each item in the store, giving you a detailed description about every wine, olive oil, meat, cheese... anything.  Such wonderfully informed service can only make you desperate to eat everything quickly so you can go back to the store for more.

Il Scalino, and Rocko, are true gems of Baltimore, and it's nothing short of an absolute treat to have them on our little doorstep.
