Okay, it's slightly ridiculous that I am updating my review the next day, but honestly I don't think my rap did this place justice.
Today I had another fresh mozzarella slice, and a grandma slice. HOT DAMN. The grandma's crust and top was oily, garlicy, with just the right amount of fresh mozzarella and zippy sauce. I could not get enough. The fresh mozzarella slice, while excellent, couldn't stand up to its quadrilateral counterpart. There was way too much mozzarella.
One of the best things about these slices is the crust. It's not so thin and crispy that it hurts, or tastes charred. It's a crust, and it tastes like it. They must use really good dough because I savored every little bit.
The triangular slice is totally foldable, no spillage or limpness detected. I am SO happy that I decided to try these varieties, because before I thought Il Porto was just another corner pizza joint masquerading as a classy establishment.

This is my favorite pizza place.
I've only ever gotten delivery from here, so I can't say I've ever eaten a super fresh, flaming hot, straight from the oven into my piehole pie, but this pizza is incredibly tasty. Their salads are good too, but I usually end up eating the pizza first until my stomach cries uncle. The delivery is pretty fast, and the guy on the other end of the phone is a pleasant human being.
It's always a little surprising when a neighborhood spot ends up beating out NYC pizza legends like Patsy's, Grimaldi's, etc. The only other place I've tried that rivals Il Porto is Lucali.
I could pretty much eat pizza from here everyday.
I'm pretty happy with Il Porto. First, the ambiance is great. Love the Old World feel, the wood-burning smell, and the live guitar music. Wish they had booths, that would make everything perfect, but there probably isn't room. Second, the service is really great. They're very attentive and flexible. They were patient with my son. They made good wine suggestions. Third, the food is good. The bread basket- great. The brick oven pizzas- loved it. Got a butternut squash ravioli special once that was awesome. The fettucini al pesto was only ok, a little creamy for my taste. Wasn't floored by the Grandma slice, but maybe I need to try it again. All in all, a good go-to dinner place when I want some quiet conversation.
Ok, so they fuck up orders sometimes, but Il Porto has continued to deliver divine pizza with friendly phone service. It may take an hour, but daaamn. Granma Pie with pepperoni is like crack.

Ok, so this is really 4.5 stars, but the low ratings make me sad.

This is a 4 star place. However I'd like to give it 4.5 because the low reviews are sillayyyyy.
Next time I go to mexico, I think I'll ditch the tacos, chapulines (sp???), corn, and tequila for pizza. Because it is mexikanz that are the kings of pizzaland in new york.
This is not a slight. This is not a negative symptom of the destruction of the wall between our two glorious nations. It is fact. Mexicans run the food industry in new york, from the bottom up, and they are doing a fucking great job of it as well [but i mean we all know the jews actually OWN the shit].
The guys doing food prep here are great, and the cooking is actually done with care. Ingredients are fresh, and though i'm often skeptical with this when it comes to pizza, the pies actually LOOK really good. Presentation is kewl. The head chef is italian, but hey it's the elves that make the workshop run.
The pizza here is succulent. Both thin crust and sicilian had me nearly passing out from the lack of blood flowing outward from my brain to my cuisine boner (i think it was kafka that first used this term, but dont hold me to it).
Straight margherita is amazing. A sicilian with crushed garlic, prosciutto, and sweet sausage with fresh mozzarella was some of the best pizza I've had in a while. A babe I know got a chicken breast in a wine reduction with sundried tomatoes - yes they do reductions and other pretensh stuff - and that ruled. Balanced and juicy. Didn't look as hot as the pizza though.
Fort Greene and Clinton Hill is a seriously underrated food spot, but the pizza mostly tastes like fossilized turd. Aside from Luigi you can't get shite! So il porto has stepped in and put a brick in the food wall that was sorely missed.
Sure the block it's located on sucks unless you are into hasids and strife, and very inconvenient (why the f did you guys decide to move in by the navy yard??????) but il porto is a place to which i will return frequently.
ambience is kind of like a shitty cheesecake factory with no art and bad acoustics but the beer is cheap and the waitress is really nice. hooray! RESPECTABLE PIZZA
Il Porto has some of the best pizza around. It might sound like treachery to make that claim since they haven't been here long, but it easily rivals the NYC mainstays.
Their delivery is terrible, but I live around the corner so it doesn't bug me. My suggestion is to just swing by for a couple of slices at lunch.
I really, really wanted this place to be good since it is just a short walk from me. Bleh. I've eaten there and ordered in.
Eating there, the service was fine and the portions were big but whatevs. It just want's all that great. The place was pretty much empty too.
Ordering in, I'll never do it again. It took over an hour to arrive and was just mediocre.
I always order pizza, the delivery is fast and courteous. I am Italian and the pizza is really like the Italian one, besides the americanized versions with chicken and other stuff whic we would never ever put on pizza.
Definitely recommended, especially the classic pizza Margherita.
After only ordering pizza we tried the other food...i was disappointed...caprese was kind of funny, not Italian at all, just americanized, don't recommend eating other food beside pizza.
This was my first time ordering from Il Porto and I was not disappointed. The delivery was in exactly 30 minutes as stated. The phone customer service was pleasant. I ordered the white brick oven pizza. I think they call it that because it has crack in it, it was that good. Their Cesare contained fresh romaine lettuce and real Parmesan cheese. The fried calamari was also delicious. I will definitely be checking out this restaurant for the dine in experience in the future.
It's about time a higher calibre pizza joint surfaced in the area. Luigi's was pretty decent, but I think the pizza from Porto rivals Fornino in the Burg as well as stands up pretty well to Grimaldi's.
passed this place yesterday while taking an epic wandering stroll. it seemed so out of place to have a well-furnished pizzeria in the vast emptiness of closed warehouse buildings and overgrown sidewalks. the food was good... not mindblowing... but, especially with location considered, much more than i was expecting when i sat down. it was really clean, the pizza was nice and hot and the crust was just right.
So I ordered delivery one night...HUGE mistake. It arrived cold, disgusting and the calamari looked/tasted like something I could by in the freezer section at The Associated for $4 instead of $10. I had the pesto fettuccine which the guy who took my order swore by and was so grossed out by it I only took a couple bites. $30 down the drain. I read such good reviews which is why I decided to try it, SO disappointed. Maybe it's better to go to than to have delivered, I may try it again for lunch so the price is less and I won't be so irate should be disgusting again.
