Chef-owner Michael Feker took quite a chance when he opened Il Mito in 2000 in an area filled with inexpensive Mexican restaurants. Instead of blending into the Walker's Point neighborhood, Feker offered wines and a cuisine termed "Californian Mediterranean." Last October a second Il Mito opened in Wauwatosa, more focused on wine, pizza and lower prices than the Walker's Point prototype. Called Il Mito Trattoria and Enoteca, it proved so popular that Feker's original restaurant closed this spring to remodel and duplicate the Wauwatosa format.
