Maybe this place has gone downhill since I last visited, but I remember it being really awesome.  I used to go there every week for lunch to get some Empanadas and sit outside.  It has a nice cafe atmosphere and I always felt the people behind the counter were friendly and nice.  It isn't too expensive and the food is pretty good if you stick to standard fare.  The one time I went there for dinner they had a guy playing electric piano and what I ordered was pretty delicious.  The neighborhood is pretty nice, especially if you want to sit outside and smoke while you drink your coffee.

*reasonably priced
*pleasant place to eat lunch when it is sunny
*good empanadas

I like Il Capo.  It's new, and the offerings are interesting.  During the day, it's all about Argentinian sandwiches and empanadas, which are quite good.  As a lunch spot, it's got a lot to recommend it.

As a dinner spot, it's mostly tapas and then some steak dishes.  I don't claim to know much (ok, I don't claim to know anything) about Argentinian food, but all the dishes are interesting and most of them are good.  Whether they are 'authentic' or not, I have no idea.  Argentinians for all I know may come into the place and laugh at our impertinence for believing this is Argentinian food, but I can't do much about that.  Vegetarians (of which I am not one) will find it hard to put together much of a meal here, as ham seems to play a role in almost everything, supporting if not lead.

As an addition to Green Street's growing lineup of places to eat and shop, I think it's very welcome.

EDIT: This place is closed now and has become the Malbec Restaurant, which is more expensive and not quite as good!  Sad day :(

Il Capo is a wonderful spot to enjoy an inexpensive and delicious meal.  They feature many authentic Argentinian dishes, including milanesas (breaded tenderized beef or chicken, as a sandwich or not), empanadas, parrillada (barbecue), imported mate tea, and alfajores (a sweet cookie-type treat with dulce de leche in the middle).  Everything I've tried so far is delicious, and my boyfriend is obsessed with their empanadas, which include beef (with olive and onion), chicken, ham and cheese, and cheese and onion.  The only one missing is choclo (corn).

Il Capo also has a great market section, where you can buy all types of imported Argentinian goods.  You can find a great selection of wines, cheeses, crackers, dulce de leche, juices, yerba mate, and alfajores (including the famous but somewhat overrated Havanna alfajores--try the ones made in the restaurant first).

There is also a setup for musicians to play in the cafe.  I hear that they sometimes have live music at dinner, but I've never actually been there myself for anything but brunch and lunch, so I'm not sure.  In any case, be sure to check this place out, it's amazing!

So I finally made it down here to check these guys out. I went on Monday and found out that they close early on Sunday and Monday.

I haven't had a chance to eat there yet but from what it sounds, it sounds great.

I have been looking for a place that sold Argentine desserts/snacks, and goodies. They seemed to have it all. They have yerba for mate, and they even have the actual mates to drink out of, even the bombilla to drink with. I have been looking for somewhere local rather than purchasing it off the Internet. I also picked up a container of Dulce de Leche. The prices seemed great. Fortunately for me, its right down the street from where I work!

They guys behind the counter seemed great as well, offering ideas on what would go with what.

I am looking forward to eating lunch or dinner there. I am confident that it will be great.

I've had lunch here at least a dozen times since they opened a year ago. It ridiculously convenient to my office. And they use to be ridiculously slow, but things have gotten better.

The tapas are excellent and make for a quick lunch when I'm in a rush. The sandwiches are also generally good (except for the Philly Cheesesteak).

They have lunch specials and have started to put examples up on display. They're generally good, fast and easy on the wallet.

Tip: Tapas or a lunch special.

I've never had breakfast or dinner there, but they offer it. . . I think.

I was wondering around Green Street trying to find a good place to eat breakfast and I ran into this charming looking (from the outside at least) little deli.

At first, as soon as I walked in, there were a couple of people waiting for their orders and there was nobody else in there. After I decided to go with one of their sandwiches, I ordered a latte and waited. I figured it wouldn't take too long and I could eat there, instead of taking it home. Right? WRONG!

To make the stupid croissant sandwich, it took them over 30 F***ing minutes and by then I had finished my latte and asked to have it to go. When I made it back home I opened the box to reveal an uneatable 9-dollar goo. There was so much mayo in it, it was disgusting.

I don't know if they are new or whatever, but it was just stupid and a waste of time and money.

I have to say that I love Argentinian food first.  I love Lala's and my old, now defunct standby of Patagonia CAfe (RIP).  When I found out Il Capo had empanadas, I knew I had to try it.  I thought the place was Italian!  My stylist told me to go for the cheese and onion...they are fabulous.  I couldn't agree more.  I had one of those and one ground beef.  Both were so good.  Tasty, crispy, delicioso.

Can't vouch for the rest of the menu but there were several couples eating dinner and it looked good.

This place is walking distance from my work, so i decided to give it 5 opportunities before I said enough is enough. The food is hit and miss. Empanadas were good and bad. Lots of pasta dishes but always over sauced. The coffee is over priced, starbucks is on the same block and their coffee is just as expensive. The main reason for the 1 star was the bad service. There is a young lady that works the lunch hour that always makes you feel like she is doing you a favor by serving you or taking your order. She sighs if you ask a question about what's in the dish. She snaps if you say you have been waiting 20 min for your empanada. She passes you by if you ask for a box. Just plan rude!!!! No more il Capo. Don't care how close you are to my work!!

I absolutely adore this place!  I might be biased by the fact that it's incredibly conveniently located for me, but that doesn't change the fact that the food is almost uniformly delicious.  The empanadas are my favorite -- both the beef and cheese & onion are juicy and great.

Among the sandwiches, I think the matambre (rolled, stuffed flank steak with veggies and hardboiled eggs), choripan (just sausages, chimichurri, and white bread), and milanesa (deep fried steak) stand out.  Their wines are also good (although rather expensive with dinner) and they do serve yerba mate, which is a nice morning alternative to coffee.

They also cater, which is a great service considering the manageable portions of most of their dishes, e.g. empanadas.

All in all, just great.

We just came back from dinner at Il Capo.  It's a pretty cool place.  They told me that for lunch it's more of a take out and quick place but for dinner, it's actually more of a sit down.  We live pretty close by and just felt like a nice walk since it was a beautiful day.  We passed by this place at it looked pretty cozy.  There were about 3 other couples eating dinner so we decided to go in and take a look.  The restaurant is fairly open and has some patio dining as well.  The restaurant has a LOT of different options.

When you first walk in, there are a bunch of wines, crackers and other various treats that you can buy and bring home.  In addition, they have a deli so you can buy different types of cheese, meats and other deli selections.  The people there were very friendly and nice and asked us to try them for dinner.   We decided to go for it.

We ordered 2 appetizers (Spanish Hor's Dourves and Fried Calimiri) and shared the spaghetti bolognese.  They provide free bread a dipping sauce.  We also ordered a bottle of wine.  They charge the retail price of the wines plus a $15 corkage fee.  The waitress was really nice and gave us a free salad as well.  The food can be best described as a combo of Italian, Spanish and Argetinian.  We saw a couple by us order the Paella which looked and smelled fantastic - we will definitely order that next time we go.  The workers were very friendly and explained to us that they offer a good mix of foods.  The total meal came out to about $60 plus a $10 tip which wasn't bad considering we ordered wine.  The spaghetti was pretty good (but nothing spectacular) and portions were a good size.  I think next time we head there we'll just get appetizers and wine or order the paella.   I would definitely check it out if you were a looking for a cool and quaint place to grab a snack or dinner.

walked in to a place that was about 1/3 full and waited 5 minutes to be noticed. were we ghosts? it was like a scene from every "i died but don't know it and try to have interactions with the living" movie. so we shrugged off being ignored and got our own menus and sat. we thought maybe since it's a pretty casual place we were supposed to seat ourselves and we weren't getting it. so we sat. and sat some more. then five minutes later we left. truthfully, i really wanted to eat here and like it. it's close to our house and heard it's a good deal but we never found out. there were about 5 people working there so it wasn't a lack of staff. we'll never know...

What a great find. Thanks to both positive and negative reviews, my family and I wanted to check it out for ourselves. We went on a Friday night and we were immediately welcomed by the charismatic and very nice gentlemen. We were a little apprehensive about no kids menu, BUT...it worked out for my 5 and 7 year old. They shared a yummy tortellini type pasta with "pink" sauce. My husband had Camerones Rancheros...yummy! And I had the  NY Steak, with fantastically smooth mashed potatoes. The prices were reasonable..$67 for four people and that included three entrees, empanadas (big and flaky and well worth the $4 for 2 price) and a tasty Terantino (spelling?)dessert. WOW, the dessert was a super treat...my husbands favorite thus far. The bottom layer is bread pudding, on top of that is flan, and on top of that is Dulce de Leche. Very decadent!!! The ONLY thing that I really wanted but they didn't have was chicken paella. All they had was a seafood paella. Other than that, it was a five star experience. We will definitely go again!
