All I can say is...PITA PITA PITA!  The pita bread here so delicious!  Great bread makes a great sandwich! I went here for the first time today and had the turkey with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and mustard.  The sandwich was just amazing!  I probably ate my sandwich in two seconds they are that good!

Sure the decor is lacking and it is next to a strip club but who cares!!!  I would drive anywhere to have these sandwiches again!

What's the big deal? I know lots of folks like this place, and that's cool. But for me, I just didn't get what all the fuss is about. Sure, the bread is pretty good, but the insides were all standard fare. The special spice on the sando is just a sprinkle of italian seasoning (oregano, basil). So, this is a decent shop, but nothing I'd cross town for. If you're nearby, then it's good because it's family and local. And for the record, the staff were all just fine. No sandwich Nazis that I found.

TIP: Small sandwich is enough for just about anyone. Order a large if you dare, or sharing it.

TIP: Don't confuse this place with Ike's Place in SF. No relation what-so-ever. Ike's in SF is the rock star of sandwiches, for sure.

A freshly baked pita loaf, hollowed out and loaded with good eats.  I added mayo, mustard, turkey, cheese, lettuce, and tomato.  The tomato's are served in chunk form, not sliced.  Makes for a big sandwich.

There is a sign that says they sell the bread by itself, so I figured they make bread by selling their bread, so the bread must be good.  And the bread is good...

Good enough to go back for more.

They should have a disclaimer:  Do not attempt to eat while driving.

THere's a lot to like at Ike's. There's not much to like besides the very outdated decor... Its perfectly situated next to a strip club [Har Har?]. Nonetheless, IKE's offers great sandwiches at reasonable prices. And double sandwiches at good prices. There's a good amount of selection to choose from as well as the endless supply of comdiments such as pickles, peppercinies, and more of those like.. The uniqueness of this place is that the bread is more like a pita, a bready pita. The contents of the sandwich is stuffed into this bread concoction that is delicious. I can't complain very much about it other then its just another sandwich, an above average sandwich at that. Definitely a place to try.
    Pros: Quantity, Reasonable prices,
    Cons: Decor
    Stars: 4

    Notes:
A slight wait during lunch hours

This is actually a 3.5 star rating. There's something about Ike's that keeps me coming back, although I'm not altogether pleased that they raised their prices.

Every now and then I get a craving for a carbo-loaded massive sandwich, and this is the second best place (right behind The Bread Store) to get one. Sometimes they sell out of bread, they get so busy. I'm a fan, but I'm not going to sing their praises, either. The customer service kind of sucks and the owner Carmen forgets to write down orders when she's on register. Watch out for her and enjoy your over-priced, yet delicious, massive sandwich.

When coworkers come visit from out of state, the first thing they say on Monday morning is not: "Hey, Matt, how are you?" or "Great to see you again!" it's "So we ARE going to Ike's for lunch today, right?"

    Ike's is that good.

As covered a million times, the sandwiches are huge. Most sandwiches use half of these enormous pita looking breads. They are PERFECT. They sell the bread for making your own sandwiches if you ask.

This place is not for the beginner eater. This is a gut bomb, but sometimes a gut bomb for lunch is exactly what the doctor ordered.

This place has amazing sandwiches, and if you want to get your freak on there's a strip club next door.

    Just kidding.

My favorite is the italian sausage and cheese. I can feel my belt expanding just thinking of it.

I ate here twice while I was in town for training.  The first time I went, it was the bomb!  The second time I went, they gave me the wrong order, which I did not realize until I was already out of the area.  The bummer was I ordered roast beef and received a cheese sandwich.  Who orders a cheese sandwich?  Anyway, I would eat here again.

I drove passed this little hole in the wall several times.... I probably would NEVER have thought to stop in this place on my own. A friend asked me to lunch here and I am glad she did.

The sandwiches are awesome. Definitely not something that you would eat everyday but a nice treat every once in a while. The bread is TO DIE FOR...baked from scratch every morning. I always order the turkey with light onion (they mound the onions on if you aren't a huge fan of them.)

I would have given them 5 stars but the decor and customer service could be a little better.

This is an amazing hole in the wall.  They have some of the most amazing sandwiches.  I always get roast beef.  The tomatpes and onions are always fresh and add the perfect texture.  Their pitta rolls are HUGE they hold about a pound of goodies.  And the prices are reasonable.

The only negative that comes to mind is their hours.  They close early but hey it is a lunch time place any way.  Oh yeah they are next to an adult toy store/ strip club so thats a plus.

Last time I came here I couldnt decide between the hot pastrami or the chicken salad sandwich.  So I flipped a coin and chicken won.  So chicken salad sandwich was ordered and it came inside that wonderful pita type flat bead that they have.  I could eat that damn stuff plain.  They put a shitload of onions on top of it, but not real biggie because I love onions.  Just knew my old lady wasnt going get within 10 feet of me after eating them.  Oh well, keep eating, the sandwich is really good.  I always enjoy this place, but of course the one downside is they are ONLY open during lunch on the weekdays.  Not dinner and not weekends.  So plan accordingly.  It is worth it!

Not your typical sandwich, they come in a delicious bread, similar to a pita (but soft n so yummy).  My fav is turkey or hot pastrami.  You may want to ask for light mayo, unless you like it to drip off your chin.  Then again, the bread is so soft that you really don't need mayo.  If you go right at the lunch hour, expect a line of at least 10 people.  Service is a little gruff, but you're going here for the bread not the service.  You can also buy the bread on it's home to take home and make your own sandwiches.

The location may be a little sketchy for some as it is nestled in a very small strip mall right next to the porn store.  A little grungy inside, but clean enough.  Parking is limited, but you can always use the back of the store parking next door (inadvertently embarrassed a guy that was returning his "movies" one time - pretty funny).

My brother took me here and raved about the pita bread. The bread is soft, but sturdy and very yummy. I ordered tghe pastrami and the meat was ok. If you took the pastrami from TOGO's and put it into the pita along with all the other condiments, this place would get more stars.

I love this business park. Want a sandwich? How about a lap dance? I know a place!

On a more serious note. I had the hot pastrami and my friend had the meatball. Also, a side of chili. The bread was awesome and I thought maybe with the deli meats it might overpower the taste of meat. Next time I'm there I'll definitely be getting one of the more intense sandwiches with 3 different kinds of meat. The pastrami was decent, but the bread really made it good. Had some of the meatball, it was decent also, the bread tipping it over into good. Would definitely go there again and even tell other people to go. The chili was awesome, that thick stuff you feel like should be on top of fries or hot dogs. Funny little place. Only drawback was the credit/debit charge. But not a big deal for smaller places where you'd expect them to only take cash.

    Love that they had pepperoncini.

Good bread, bad quality meat, good atmosphere.

The quality of the meat, produce, and cheese is seriously lacking, but the bread, which is baked in-house overshadows some of the shortcomings.

Long story short: I won't go there on my own, but if someone is picking up sandwiches, I will get something.

definitely a decent little place to grab a sandwich if your in the area and dont want the typical subway footlong. decent prices, cost you $10 maybe a little more if your hungrier. pretty good for a family owned place in a kinda of awkward location (im pretty sure theres a strip club nearby).

pro: their bread. sammies arent just served on a typical loaf of bread but rather a pocket-like bread.
con: im not a huge mayo fan so my sandwich was a bit too dry for me. this place would be an absolute killer if they had some sort of house sauce or something like that.

decent. try it for yourself when your in the area :)

Its okay. I've been here three times, and always left feeling gross and fatty afterwards. Which come to think of it, kind of explains the 5-1 ratio of hefty overweight middle-aged white dudes to everyone else there.

The bread is awesome, there's no denying that. Foccacia bread cooked in a round pan and sliced like a pita -- crafty! But every sandwich on there is one meal closer to a heart attack. Which, is fine. Once every six months. It's cool that they have a help-yourself container of pepperoncini's, pickles and jalapeno's (ulcers and heartburn), and plenty of condiments.  For the size of sandwich, its a pretty good price as well. I don't quite get the hype of throwing down some dried oregano on a sandwich though. Just... doesn't seem to belong.

Skip the 11:30-12:45 hour as you will find yourself in a line to the door some 20 people deep.  You may also want to skip breakfast.

I actually love this place just because the ingredients are fresh, the bread is to die for and the pic-nic table cloths are amusing. It also reminds me of the Soup Nazi in that you must be prepared to order when you reach the front of the line OR ELSE! They are only open for lunch if that tells you anything about how business is (or it might be out of necessity as the bulk of their customers are business professionals.) call ahead and save yourself the 15 minute wait.

I would like to see more vegetarian sandwiches besides cheese, onion, and tomato. I usually end up just buying a dozen halves of their bread and making my own sandwiches.

This place is unique in that it serves sandwiches in giant fresh-baked pocket bread.  The pita bread is wonderful, but be careful about ordering the "whole" sandwich.  In Ikespeak, a Whole Sandwich is actually the pita round cut into two pockets and each filled with sandwich fixin's.  On my "maiden voyage" (blush, blush) here, I didn't hesitate to confirm that my order was for the whole sandwich when asked, although I thought $9.45 was a little steep a price for a roast beef, turkey, and pastrami (#16 on the menu).  But who knew?  It might've been some very special pastrami.

When my two pocket sandwiches came out, I realized my naivete.  I could barely finish one huge pocket.  The other one I saved and had for lunch the next day.  Surprisingly, the bread never got soggy or lost its wonderful chewy yet pillowy texture after a day in the fridge.  Given the sheer amount of food you get with your order, this place is a good value.  I can't say enough good things about the pita bread, so I vouch for the tastiness of the sandwiches too.

There's a Gentleman's Club in the same strip mall just a couple of doors down.  I wonder if they mind if you enjoying the show whilst burying one's snout, snarfing away on one of Ike's pocket sandwiches... or is that way too Freudian?

I tried this place after reading the great reviews here, and wasn't overwhelmed with the experience.

The bread was fresh, but sort of airy and bland, and the pocket-ness of the sandwich means that the fillings don't fill the "pita" and you end up with a lot of bland bread.  I ordered the turkey and ham sandwich, and the meat was okay, but nothing special, it was that kind of slimey, mass-produced stuff you'd find anywhere, no better than I'd get at Safeway's deli.

The service was incredibly fast, even with the line.  I'd barely ordered my sandwich when it was ready, and I saw them making it.  It was a lot faster than it takes to get an iced coffee at Starbuck's.

While their pita-sandwiches aren't the best thing since sliced bread, Ike's is still a decent place to stop by for lunch if you're in the area.

    I like IKE'S.

The bread is flavorful and soft. I love the ingredients and the seasoning they use. The sandwiches are big and worth every penny of the $6. Beats the heck out of Quiznos that's for sure.

So far I've tried the Pastrami, Turkey, and Sausage. Next stop Meatball, Italian Cold Cuts, Salami, and Capacolla!

I live and work in Rancho Cordova and have driven past Ike's dozens of times and always wondered, "What kind of gooddies are being baked next to a gentlemen's club?" I pictured cupcakes and brownies. One day I was driving around thinking of where should I eat and this place came to mind.

As soon as I walked in I was a little disappointed that there was no glass case of cake, cookies or other pastries. What I did find was a good place to get a sandwich. I was hungry and thought that the Italian sausage and meatball sandwich sounded like a hearty sandwich. I approached the counter and gave my order. The cashier asked, "Do you want a whole pocket bread sandwich or just a half?" That should have been my cue to order the smaller portion, but I ordered the full sandwich anyway.

One of the things I heard that the sandwiches were in a pita/pocket bread instead of regular sandwich bread and you see a picture of it in the second picture. How big does the pocket bread look to you? It is 7.5 inches long, 8 inches wide and 3 inches at the thickest part of the sandwich and that equals 180 cubic inches. I'll let you figure out how much volume that really is.

After I unwrapped the package I cut in into quarters to make sure I would not overeat because after I tasted a few bites that would have been easy to do. It is stuffed with meatballs, Italian sausage, mozzarella cheese and onions. The meatballs were firm, but moist and had a nice flavor to them. The sauce they were cooked in was great, it tasted fresh, had a nice balance of herbs, seasoning and acidity and just a slight touch of sweetness. The sausage was cooked, but not dried out and the mozzarella was literally spilling out. The pocket bread had enough crust to stand up to the other bold ingredients and not get too soggy. All the ingredients worked well together; each providing different textures and flavors.

That sandwich is enough to feed three maybe four people and for under $10. I will definitely have to order their other sandwiches to see how they stack up.

1 star = Poor. I would not eat here for free or if you paid me.

2 star = So-So. I would rather eat somewhere else.

3 star= Average. I would or would not eat here again. It would depend on my company.

4 star= Good. I would recommend eating here.

5 star= Excellent. Driving two hours to eat here, would be time well spent.

....the quest for a more perfect sandwich continues.

In this chapter, we are introduced to Ike - a proprietor who wasn't afraid to break the mold when he declared war on the sandwich consumer and threw his hat in the dark, long and bloody war of deli fare.

Ike said, "Why must a sandwich consist of 2 slices of bread? Why not make a soft, spongy square pita and fill it full of deli cuts and sandwich stuff?"

The consumer responded with shock and awe, but as the King, Queen and deciding party of Good Sandwich land, he could not stay veiled within his castle.

He travailed through the concrete jungle of Cordova; pushed passed the grotesque, surly strip clubs; ducked past the call centers and cranksters. He narrowly escaped the Sunrise Blvd. traffic pile up, finally sliding up to the Jack in the Box parking lot.

He slowly and boldly entered the doors of Ike's to attack this misshapen monstrosity of cold cuts.

A wiry haired beast took the consumer's order - seething that yet another conquistador had come to rule her sandwich. She acquiesced after the consumer revealed his gleaming green money sword.

The sandwich was devoured and the dragon that lived in the consumer was calmed -even intrigued - for a moment. The consumer sulked away - temporarily distracted - sauntering to the next meat case.

Oh how I really wanted to enjoy Ikes - it is exactly the type of place that I try to support when I am travelling or back home in Tempe, AZ for that matter.

Unfortunately, the proprietors gave me little reason to do so. I was craving a pastrami sandwhich and unfortunately the city grill had recently closed, so I found myself at Ikes. The inside is pretty unimpressive, but I can easily look past that for good people and good food. What I found inside though went along with the surroundings.

While ordering, the older woman who seemed to hate life was scolding her employees for any possible reason. When someone dropped a stainless steel bowl in the back, she proceeded to yell at them in the middle of my order. Before I had finished ordering, she had managed to also yell at the person preparing my pastrami for using the bathroom too frequently. Talk about airing your dirty laundry.

Anyways - the chili was lackluster, along with the pastrami. Not terrible, but not great at all. I am normally pretty lenient with my reviews, but this experience was very unimpressive. Besides pyramid alehouse, my culinary experiences in Sacramento leave much to be desired. My .02

What a great place. Bad-for-you ingredients with a good-for-you name. 'Cause it's served in a pita. No, pitas aren't healthy in themselves, but they carry a healthy, vegetarian image. Kind of like a salad with the word taco in front of it.
Stuff a pita with meats and mayonnaise and dress it with lettuce, onions and herbs and you've got magic. It's very simple, but it can't be recreated elsewhere. Must be the onions and herbs.
Sadly, they are open only until after lunch and I can never make it there. I can still hear the cashier and his mom (aunt?)(Russian?) bickering over cookies or whatnot.
The atmosphere is great: it's located right next to a strip club and car audio store right in the middle of Rancho's industrial district. So it's not great, but you're just getting a meal. What's a little stripper glitter or window-rattling bass?
    Try it.

I REALLY wish they had one of these in the Bay Area because it would do so well.  There are many reaons why I love this place, but one specifically is how different they are from any other sandwich/pita/burger place.

One of my favorites is the chicken salad sandwich.  They don't just put it on regular bread slices or a bun or anything like that..but it's more of a pita style, but not that kind of weird pita flavor that I usually taste from other places. it's just really GOOD!  They pile in the meat and condiments as well.  The place is super clean and the inside is very casual - kind of like a cafeteria feeling, but not a gross+dirty+messy+old school kitchen.  It's hard to explain but it's just very chill and there's lots of room for  big parties.  If I lived in Rancho Cordova I would definitely go there at least once a week - I can have lunch AND dinner with just one sandwich!!!

I went a second time and tried the meatball sandwich and it was even better!  The wait is always a little long b/c  there is only one person making the sandwiches...but it's totally worth the wait.  And, if the wait is too long for you just order and head to the strip club next door and then come back to pick up your delicious sammie!!!

I can't believe no one has mentioned the 'adult' place next door.

Anyway, it's okay. Service is quick and unfriendly. I find the place to be dirty, old and generally run down. They could stand to get a make over.

The bread is the redeeming quality. Good enough that I go 2-3 times a month. I usually ask for the shredded cheddar as it actually has some sort of flavor. The tuna and chicken salad sandwhiches are some of the better items.

I would not say I would drive out of the way to go here. If they actually did something to make me feel like I wasn't eating at a road-side gas station, I'd probably give it more stars.

I've passed by Ike's every day for 10 years going to and from work, but never went in.

Perhaps it was the uncertainty of whether the building was actually separated from the, ahem, club next door.  Maybe it was the lack of colleagues who had actually eaten at Ike's and didn't seem like the kind who would frequent the, ahem, business next door.  It could be the bars on all the windows.

Whatever, the reason, I dropped all the excuses and finally went to Ike's with a co-worker.  I have been there.  Finally.  The end.

Oh, you want  to know if I liked it?  Yeah, it was OK, and now I recognize that someone brought in sandwiches from Ike's to work once for all of us to eat.  Good bread, a little pricey for lunch, nice extra's like pickles and peppers that are All You Can Eat, and a very Blue Collar crowd.  And a cleanliness level that makes you wonder a little bit.

All in all, the stereotype of a lunch cafe next to a strip club in an industrial area.  Check it.  Before 2 PM.  Because they close early.  Perhaps t avoid the crowd next door after work.  Probably also Blue Collar.

Don't hate me, I just write what I see!

Every time I return to Sacramento on a weekday, I make sure to stop at Ike's Deli because I miss their sandwiches so much! The bread is like a fluffy pita thing unlike anything I have ever tasted and all the fillings are fresh and tasty!  When I worked in Rancho Cordova I was there at least once a week!

The deli is in a non-descript strip mall and the furnishings are minimal but the family who runs Ike's are clearly hard-working, master sandwich makers. I love this deli and hope you will try it soon!

OMG! The bread here is amazing!  And the size of the sandwhich for the price is huge!  The seating or place is not much to look at, but if you get it to go you will love your order.  I wish they were open later in the day but I try to get in there when I am in the neighborhood.

One of my favorite RC lunch spots. Great, filling, pita sandwiches. Ambiance is lacking, but the food makes up for it.

    yummaaaaay!

i'm sorry subway, quiznos, togos, and whatever other sandwich shop out there...ike's deli puts your sandwiches to shame!  ok, look.  this place only opens for a couple hours a day and i believe they are closed on the weekends.  can you imagine how much business they get within those couple of hours to still be open and successful?

i've had 2 sandwiches there and don't plan on trying anything else.  my mouth is set.  the meatball and the pastrami sandwiches are enough to keep my mouth watering.  the bread is fabulous...it's similar to a pita but thicker, softer, and perfect to fill those nice, juicy, flavorful meatballs inside of them.  the cheese on top is the icing on the cake...hold on a second while i wipe away the drool from my chin.

the sandwiches are amazing...the prices are affordable...i'm just sad that their hours are so minimal!

Ike's Deli is one of those great hole-in-the-wall spots that makes me glad to be in Sacramento again.  Their fresh-made breads are wonderfully chewy and flavorful (Imagine a really fluffy pita pocket that's about 10" around and 1 1/2" thick) and hold the perfect amount of filling for a sandwich that truly satisfies.  There's nothing out of the ordinary here, just fresh, well-made sandwiches for a good price.  I love the Italian sausage and meatball sandwich; juicy slices of italian sausage, freshly made meatballs ( I think?), onions, and cheese in a hot ragu on two halves of their fresh bread.  At only $9 it's a great meal for two!  (Let me know if you've eaten this whole thing in one sitting and I'll be impressed).  I also tried the hot pastrami sandwich, a much more reasonable task (a $5 sandwich).

I like Ike's.  I however the first time I went with a vet.  Someone who was in the know.  I do not need explain the food as Chris and Brian have done that.  Ike's is good food made by good people.  All of the staff is down to earth and polite.  I think I am going to try the Taco sandwich next time.
