Almost 2 years after I fist used Eric's services and I'm still singing his praises to my fellow manhattanites. He is super accommodating and available last minute to do large jobs. I was even available to pay with paypal about a week before delivery(although he prefers cash). His partner Eddie was fantastic! He even helped me move some heavy furniture and boxes while putting together some other furniture that was over and beyond his scope of work.
Eddie was great to talk to and made me feel right at home while unpacking my new apt.
There was nothing better than watching my movers move in my stuff while my new IKEA stuff was being assembled and then being able to sit in my new apt on my new couch without ever setting foot in IKEA or picking up a screwdriver! BLISS!
Just book the Titanium package, you be so glad you did!1 Previous Review: Show all »

UPDATE: After receiving Eric's response (below), we exchanged Yelp messages and discovered that his spam filter had caught several of my emails, unbeknownst to him. That's why he didn't answer them.
So, while I can't review Eric's business fully, I can say that he is a decent guy who remained polite even when I gave him a bad review. He also apologized for the email screw-up, which I appreciated. And he's trying to fix his technological problems. I'm giving him 3 stars (up from the original 2) because of this responsiveness.
Technology giveth; Technology taketh away; blessed be the name of Technology.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
When I saw all the 5-star reviews, I thought this business was too good to be true. Verdict: It is. For me, anyway.
Eric responded promptly and politely to my emails--until I mentioned that I didn't want or need his most expensive service, the "Titanium Package."
I never heard from him again. He just stopped answering my emails entirely. I got the message that he didn't want my business, but I found his way of communicating it unprofessional.Comment from Eric R. of Ikea Delivery Alternative 8/22/2011

First, let me say it makes me sad to have to write such a low-scoring review. The concept of this service is AWESOME... however, Eric isn't really setup for larger orders, and I think that was part of our problem.
If I were just rating on the fact that we didn't have to navigate through IKEA in a daze (both caused and solved by swedish meatballs), Eric would get 4-5 stars.
After some trouble communicating (note to business owners: if you're on vacation, put an auto-responder or "away message" on your phone/e-mail/website, and double-check that it works!!!), we put in a LARGE order - Eric initially said he couldn't do it, then decided he would, but we'd have to pay extra... fine, wonderful!
Our order was somewhere between $3-5k in merchandise, so we asked them to go to the Elizabeth IKEA to save on taxes (significant amount of $$$$) - everything except 1 or 2 items was in stock (better in-stock% than either Paramus or Brooklyn).
The guys went to Paramus instead, which meant that we paid several hundred in taxes, and we're still missing several items (more on that later).
The guys delivered the items to our apartment and started assembling - so far so good, but their process seemed really disorganized (there were boxes and pieces EVERYWHERE), and despite saying they'd read our e-mails stating EXACTLY what we wanted assembled in order of importance, it became clear (and they finally admitted) they hadn't read them.
Eric charges $35/hr to assemble things, and that's a decent rate. He told us he'd be able to build our MALM wardrobes for under $100 - awesome! However, he had a helper assembling as well and expected the same rate for the much-less-efficient underling... so $70/hr total and the helper spent about 8 hours assembling a single effektiv cabinet.
Eric ended up assembling things we planned on doing ourselves (which I have subsequently had to dis-and-reassemble, since they were not configured properly), and didn't assemble items we had wanted him to. (that all could have been avoided if he'd ACTUALLY read the e-mail we sent instead of just saying he had).
I keep finding things that were not done the way I would have liked (the backs are falling off my wardrobes, for example), and lots of parts seem to be missing (extra parts got all mixed together in a giant bag o' fun, assembly instructions were tossed, we even think some extra pieces were tossed!).
Additionally, even though we'd had PLENTY of space cleared for the delivery/assembly, our clothes were moved/rifled through, they actually damaged our bedframe, our cats had to spend an entire day locked in the bathroom, and my poor mother-in-law was freezing, since they had the front door open in the middle of winter.
Somewhere in the middle of all this, we realized that none of the workers had eaten, so we bought them sandwiches, because they were starting to have that glazed-over "I need food" look, and nothing was seeming productive. By the end of the day, they were totally out of energy and tried to insist that they should keep working, but we told them to go home (since they were not seeming productive any more), even though there were boxes and screws and general IKEA riff-raff scattered everywhere.
Eric promised us that he would complete our order and drop off the missing items... we payed him a hefty sum IN CASH, and he was on his way.
So, after that one day of work (for which Eric and his company were HANDSOMELY compensated, I assure you. Yes, it was a lot of work, but I forked over something akin to my monthly rent AND provided food!), Eric came by twice with small things (even though we asked him to wait and do it all at once)... at least once without even calling to see if we were home (we weren't - he ended up leaving stuff with a neighbor),
......and then we never heard from him again, despite phone calls and e-mails and carefully written lists of what was wrong/missing. We were even willing to pay another delivery fee to add a few items that hadn't been on our original list.
We're still missing pieces of our order (including the bottom half of our JULES chairs and pieces that were broken and needed to be exchanged), I don't have the sales receipts from IKEA (he did give me someone ELSE's return receipt), and Eric hasn't returned our calls and e-mails.
So, while I enjoy the newly refurnished apartment (I swear it looks like Sweden in here) and we REALLY couldn't have done it without Eric's help (which is why he get 2 stars instead of 1), I would love to be writing this review from more than half a chair and not thinking about about how my glass shelf is warping because it has the wrong pegs, etc.Comment from Eric R. of Ikea Delivery Alternative 8/29/2011

I was hoping to use Ikea Delivery Alternative when I first moved to the city and didn't have a car or any friends to help me out. However, Eric gave me the run around and was incredibly rude to me in a series of emails. I'm happy this service worked so well for previous reviewers, but I figured I'd add my experience as well for anyone in my position. I ended up ordering from Ikea and using their recommended third party delivery and installation people, Urban Express. It took a few extra steps and was a bit more expensive than this would have been, but if I could do it again I'd go that route from the start and save myself the hassle.

Eric is awesome! I got the Titanium Package (personal shopping and delivery) and furniture assembly. He is very organized and efficient. Finished all my assembly in about 3.5 hours (2 bookcases, dresser, bed frame).
I live in a 6 floor walk up, and I feel that the extra charge to lug all my stuff up was very fair ($45). Furthermore, he was very friendly the entire time he was in my apartment. Beyond his ability to assemble very efficiently, Eric still cares about how everything comes out. He drilled holes into the bookshelf for me where I wanted and even noticed that my floor was slanted and created a makeshift way to level my bookcase and bed out.
This service is really great and I would definitely use Eric again in the future. -

A very efficient and customer service-oriented business. Our location posed a challenge for Eric's team since we live in the UN area where there is only diplomat parking and no standing allowed anywhere. They came through in the clutch though and put their van on hazard mode in front of our building as my bf and Eric's staffer hauled up our sofa, media stand, desk, and chaise. Luckily we live in a building w/ a service elevator and they were able to carry everything upstairs. Ikea boxes are HUGE so it was a logistical miracle to have them safely arrive into my apartment.
We ran into issues as we assembled our couch (a Kivik sectional) when we realized that we were missing three cushion covers. We also realized that the box for cushion covers was completely torn up and probably a returned package from an old customer. Most probably, when Eric's driver gave the IKEA staff our shopping list, the attendant just grabbed whatever box so it wasn't the driver's fault. We called Eric and within two days our missing cushion covers were left with our doorman and our couch was complete!
Overall a very receptive team. We emailed Eric our order two nights before he promptly sent the driver to the Paramus, NJ store since the Kivik was unavailable in Brooklyn. Its worth it to order all of your big ticket items in one go and have Eric's team deliver, since you could pick up smaller pieces on your own. -

Erics SOOOOOO AMAZING! I had to move QUICKLY after an awful "Welcome to NY" living experience. Great new location, problem was my bedroom was completely unfurnished. I was living on my new roommates air mattress and after visiting Ikea 3x in a week, I was so overwhelmed. Anyways in enters Eric (Angelic music, sky parting, etc). After reading his reviews on Yelp. I emailed him late Tuesday night and he responded (around 11-ish)!
We set up for Thursday and I'm super paranoid so I kept emailing and calling him but he was completely patient and answered all of my questions. I had to work on Thursday but my roommate let him in (Roomie says he was super friendly btw) PLUS (more nerves) I worked late so when I came home, it was like Ikea Santa Claus!! SERIOUSLY My dresser, my bed, my nightstand, and mirror all perfectly arranged and assembled. I couldn't believe it!
Its the best deal and best option and truthfully, its such a relief that someone is doing honest and fair work in a city full of scammers (y'all know its true). Invest your money in Eric and his business! He made my 1st NYC apartment a dream come true xx -

I recently contacted Eric for the "Titanium Package" (they do the shopping and delivery) and I also had him do the assembly. I was VERY impressed this service. The delivery was prompt and the assembly (which was complicated), was done in a reasonable amount of time. I purchased the pax wardrobe with sliding doors. It's complicated to put together and the space was pretty small. He worked very hard to assemble the wardrobe. I would definitely recommend this service and would use it again myself. Eric is reliable and professional.

What an incredible service.
After living in a furnished room for 6 months, I thought it was time to move on as well as get my own stuff. I ordered the Titanium Package for a Saturday, and Eric arrived with everything from IKEA. Despite the quantity of different things ordered, he got it 100% right. Even better, we corresponded via e-mail so he could confirm I was getting exactly what I was looking for (the wall mounted book shelves have the same name and look similar to those that are not).
He had an employee cancel on him, but rather than reschedule he came out and worked on everything himself. After taking six hours for something that would probably take me a month, everything was done. The furniture was great, Eric could not be nicer and the nightmare of IKEA did not have to be visited on me.
Do yourself a favor, have Eric deliver and assemble your furniture. You will not regret it. -

It's a shame that Ikea doesn't do orders over the phone. And many Ikea items are not available for delivery on website --you have to go to a B&M store. So when i wanted a wardrobe, I found this service via Google and Apartment therapy with rave reviews. Eric emails back and calls back RIGHT AWAY, which says he is responsive and responsible.
What i got with Eric's service:
-personal shopping for my ikea item
-saved an entire day of going to and fro from Manhattan to Red Hook
-saved my sanity by not having to deal with the kids and crowds
-no waiting in line
-same day delivery (my item came within 1.5 HOURS (!!!)
Originally, i had gone thru Ikea Hicksville, which has a "services centre' that takes orders via phone, but they called me back 2 days after i sent in my request (!!!) and they charge $110 delivery plus $30 phone-in ordering fee, and it is NOT same day service. Plus you have to fill in a mess of forms which they email you and that's just a pain.
So let's see:
$140 for delivery of my item if i go thru Ikea (and fill out forms and wait for call backs, and wait days)
vs.
$125 for Eric's service (done thru a quick email) within a few hours.
I saved $15, and i got better service than Ikea.
Highly recommended. I got prompt emails/texts/updates from Eric's team. I would much rather give my shipping/delivery money to Eric's company than to Ikea.
In NY, Time is money. You save time and save money with this service. just email your order in, and pay cash upon deilvery. Simple as that, and cheaper + faster to boot. -

Super professional, excellent service. I got the Titanium Package + delivery, and Eric made sure to call me from the store to double check a few items on my list and make sure everything was as I wanted it. He even asked if I wanted handles for my wardrobe--something I hadn't thought to put on my list, and would have been really unhappy without.
It's a great value you for the service you get. I strongly recommend Ikea Delivery Alternative! -

Another lucky find on this site! Eric is very professional and responsive - really did a terrrific job in picking up a very large order from Ikea, bringing it all in to the apartment, and helping me sort out the inventory of items and checking we had the right items. Turns out there was a problem with one of the doors delivered (correct box, but wrong item in the box - not Eric's mistake) - we had the installers coming the next day - Eric promised to return the next day with the correct door, which he did, on time for the installation. Overall, excellent experience and service from Eric - highly recommended.

These guys are amazing! I have used them on three separate occasions. They have prompt, reliable service exactly as described on the website: you pick what you want from the IKEA online store, send them a list, and they will go buy it for you and deliver to your door. This is as easy as it gets!! And for only $10 more than IKEA.
The best thing that really sets them apart is that they are extremely friendly, polite, professional and will respond to your requests quickly. I just moved cross country and have dealt with a ton of service providers and movers - and trust me that is hard to find. These guys are really trustworthy and I would use them again without hesitation! -

I just completed my move with Eric. He got all my furniture and checked back with me as something was not available.
He is amazing, he assembled all my studio furniture in around 5 hours. Very nice guy and helped me a lot. I could never have done this on my own. I recommend him to everyone who does not want to go through the hassle of going to Ikea, searching, carrying and assembling.
I'd use him again, totally!!!! -

Eric is amazing and does a wonderful service. While I was slaving away at the job Eric was doing my IKEA furniture shopping and when I got home, he was there already with my couch. He helped me bring it inside and was out the door again before I could say "who was that IKEA Delivery Alternative Man?"
I can't recommend this service enough if you need something delivered from IKEA. Eric went out to Elizabeth NJ at my request so I could save on sales tax and had the couch to my place (i live in NJ) right on time. Everything from initial contact to his driving away towards the sunset worked perfectly. I'm sure I'll use him again. -

Eric's service is priceless.
If you are a single woman, you can't go wrong with the services Eric offers.
Eric is an absolute professional. He responded to my e-mails immediately and he showed up promptly.
He installed bookshelves,a t.v. wall mount, mirror, desk and shelves in roughly four hours. I would not have been able to build or install anything on my own. The bookshelf boxes weighed 100 pounds each, and I live on the third floor of a walkup, so Eric was the only answer.
Eric is the best -he will make your move simple and easy. -

Eric is awesome. $99 to get Ikea to deliver, why not $110 have Eric deliver and you don't have to step foot in Ikea!
I changed my order with him at 11pm the night before my delivery, not a problem at all, excellent at responding via phone or email. (Although email might not be the most efficient way of contacting him if he's on the job)
He knows his Ikea furniture and there was no way I was going to be able to bring all the furniture from the Ikea shelf to the car with a cart, let alone move it into my apt.
He's extremely punctual, friendly, professional. I would recommend him to anyone in a heartbeat. -

I was so happy to have them help me move into my new studio in Park Slope. I simply would not have been able to do this on my own. Eric was super nice and helpful.
They even went back to Ikea for me when my bed was missing its screws. I was very grateful for that help.
I did have to help bring up the sofa, which was kind of tough for me since I am not that strong. But it was OK I was very happy to have them! I was on the 4th floor walk-up so its understandable. -

I moved to NYC two weeks ago from Seattle without any furniture. And Eric made my cross-country move so much more enjoyable. I used his Titanium Package twice during the first week and it didn't disappoint either time. My first order was on the day I arrived in NYC and it was a large order - two truck loads and 7-hour assembly. I practically spent my first in NYC hanging out with Eric and Eddy in my first apt in the city. They were very professional and did a great job on the furniture. An added bonus, they are very friendly and easy to talk to. I hesitated a bit when I got the quote from Eric as with two deliveries + 7-hour assembly, it wasn't cheap! BUT IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY! There is no way I could have got these furniture into my apartment or assemble any of them by myself. I followed up with Eric on another smaller order later. Same exellent experience. Eric came by himself this time and after he finished assembly, he even helped me hang up my paintings!
I would strongly recommend IKEA Delivery Alternative. And I applaud Eric for finding this niche - start a business is never esay and Eric does it very well.
(FYI - you should read the info on his website including the FAQ before ordering. It does a good job explaining how it works). -

Every girl in NYC should know they too can have the closets of their dream built for them by Eric. You must be willing to give up some space in the bedroom. I recently moved to yet another new apt with thin closets. They were model closets: tall, skinny, and completely useless. If i didn't want to spend from here to eternity folding everything i owned i was going have to have something done. In comes Eric and the ikea pax wardrobe. He literally gave me the closets of my dreams with my specifications, bolted it to the wall for safety, etc. I've just been so tardy about writing this review because i've been meaning to take pics of everything he assembled for me. He is one of the most thorough and professional people I've ever had the pleasure of working with. He just really knew what he was doing and where there coule be some snafus and completely trouble shot them. I will eventually post those pics. Another amazing Yelp find!

AMAZING! I can't recommend this service enough. Eric is as good as it gets! Scheduled a Brooklyn move from out of state. Eric was great with communicating via email before the move, called to make sure our flights were on time the night before, and confirmed with me the morning of. He gave expert advice on Ikea and the products. Eric even noticed when we forgot to order a much needed piece for our bed, and called me to ask if we wanted it. He was ON TIME and extremely professional. He worked quickly and did a quality job of assembling the pieces. I can't imagine how long it would have taken us to do it ourselves. He even helped us clean up the boxes afterward. His rates are great and there are no surprises. Don't shop from Ikea without him - I'm recommending him to everyone I know!

This is a GREAT business! I called Eric on Tuesday afternoon, and he fit me in the next day -- and in the afternoon so I didn't have to take any time off work. He got everything on my shopping list, including an item that had been discontinued, so he checked with me and bought me the floor model. He was prompt, fast, and super nice, and everything could not have been easier or more convenient. I can't recommend this business more!
