I'm not sure which barber I saw -- he had the chair to the *right* of Igor's -- but he asked questions and took me at my word that I wanted a very short haircut. He really went at my scalp with the electric clippers and for a while I wondered if he even had scissors, until he did the top. At the end, the haircut looked pretty good to me and I've gotten a lot of compliments on it. So I'll go to Igor's again.

Erol is the man! After an ill-fated haircut elsewhere, he quickly and professionally was able to make me look human again.

These guys are pros and addressed everybody else who was there by name. If that type of loyalty and repeat business isn't the sign of a bunch of satisfied customers, I'm not sure what is. I'll definitely be going back, and will hopefully be on a first name basis with these guys before too long.

(the fact they're across from Lil' Frankie's doesn't hurt either!)

This is where I got my first haircut after I moved to the city about a year ago. To be fair, I didn't get Igor. Maybe if I'd had him, I would've been satisfied, but alas, it was not to be.

It was hot. It was dirty. There was hair EVERYWHERE on the floor. My hair was butchered. I don't remember who cut my hair exactly - it's been a while. But I do remember that chunks of hair randomly all over my head were substantially longer than the hair surrounding them. I looked like a kindergartener who cut his own hair with safety scissors. Luckily, it grew out quickly and I found Manhattan Barber Shop in Chelsea, which has done a superb job ever since.

Maybe Igor and some of his staff are wonderful. Maybe I had bad luck that day. Maybe I'm picky. Who knows? I just know I was extremely dissatisfied.

I got my hair cut by a guy named Dmitry, young, closest to the back near the cash register.

He did a scissor-cut, only using the electric razor for the fine tuning at the end. He did a great job, I'm very happy with the way my hair looks. I've spent much more on haircuts that weren't as good.

On my first visit to Igor's, Tim cut my hair. The cut was exactly what I wanted and we even had a nice chat. Five stars for Tim. He's a very nice man. Tip him well.

On my second visit to Igor's, a frosty Russian woman who seemed to speak very little English cut my hair. I asked for a #1 on the sides and back and 1 inch off of the top. I pointed at a picture of what would be a very similar haircut to help her but it just seemed to make he more confused. I suddenly got a terrible fear of a bad cut, I should have walked out right then but... I really wanted a haircut, it was a hot day.

She seemed VERY unsure of what she was doing. She twice stopped mid-cut to walk into the backroom and ask Igor something (probably about cutting hair). I wanted Igor to come out and fix my haircut but for some reason he let the circus continue. The haircut was now 45 minutes in and not looking anything like what it should have. Several times she stopped cutting and looked at me in the mirror, I imagine she was expecting me to say "okay! looks good!" and she would be done. I pointed out some serious issues, with the haircut and she would just mumble something and start cutting a different part of my hair. It was a very frustrating and awkward.

I wound up with the worst haircut I've had in many years. Not at all what I asked for (and I asked for such a simple cut!). Now my hair looks sloppy and goofy instead of trim and sharp. I will never go to Igor's again.

I should have left mid-cut and had somebody else fix it. I seriously doubt that she has a license. In either case, don't let this woman near your hair! She will fuck it up!

$14 for a haircut with neck shave.

Igor used to rock out over at Neighborhood Barber, and now he's here, with his own shop. I've been coming in here for over a year because:

    1. It's conveniently located near the 2nd Ave F Stop.
    2. Igor gives me the cut I want. By that I mean a cheap ($14 + tip), reliable haircut.

I might not look GREAT when I walk out, but let's be realistic: he's a barber, not a plastic surgeon. Igor does as well as anyone with what he's got to work with.

The last time I walked in, I noticed that they have begun stocking Playboy among the magazines, as opposed to just GQ, Details, etc. This was a first. As soon as I sat down and started reading the, uh, articles, this was quickly followed by another first: a woman walked in. With her little son and daughter.

She sat down opposite me, and I could literally feel her disgust burning into my forehead as I read the, uh, articles. What? It's a men's magazine. And I'm a man, at least technically. It wasn't like it was a Score. I only read those at Crown Fried Chicken.

I'm not sure what to make of this place.  This was probably the longest and most meticulous haircut I have ever received, which is good.  And when I put product in my hair, I think it works.  But without product, my hair doesn't look that good.  Maybe its because I got it longer than usual, or perhaps I just need to get used to it... but I'm just not sure.

It is cool that they give the old-fashioned shaves, and they will actually do that to your neck instead of using a regular electric shaver.  So, for that, and the effort, I think this place is worth trying out again.

Oh, and everyone was right about the "no frills."  Its a simple barbershop  meant for one thing, cutting hair.  That's the way I like them.

have been on and off for the past 7 months at Igor's. I think Igor is ok (3 stars at max), but the other guys there are pretty mediocre to awful. I wouldn't recommend it (even for $14/hair + $6 tip).

I am very satisfied with the service I received here yesterday. I do not know the name of the man who cut my hair but he was in the 3rd chair down closest to the back of the place. I found this place thanks to yelp.

Being my hair is thinning I like a barber who can cut my hair and make it look full. This guy achieved that. He took his time, and made sure he was following the photo I brought. I really liked the fact they shave your neck afterwards, so many barbers no longer do that.

Amazingly, he somehow managed to not get a single hair on my clothes. I was happy with that being I was not leaving the city until 8pm and had my hair cut around 11am.

The price was 14 dollars for the haircut and that was really a great price especially for such a great cut. The next time I am in the city I will make it a point to return.

Who knew that you could find a great haircut in Manhattan for under $20?!

This is one of those pride and true barber shops that aren't around anymore.  I was hesitant at first going here because I thought this would be solely an electric buzzer, give me a number 1 on the sides & a 2 on the top type of place.  While you can come here and get that or a clean up no problem, Igor is great with the scissors.

Top off your haircut with a hot shave and you'll come out of there feeling like a million bucks...ALL FOR UNDER $20!!

One thing I've learned if you want a cheap haircut - sometimes you're going to end up looking like you got a cheap haircut.

That being my primary criteria for coming to this place (and Igor's former success at Neighborhood Barbers), my words of wisdom are to be as explicit as possible when giving your haircut instructions.

I say this because I write to you today with some less-than-desired results of a recent visit resting atop my head. Still, I've had plenty of fine haircuts at this place, so it balances out.

The crew is friendly, and the service cheap. But remember to let the guy know EXACTLY how you want it.

My favorite barber in NYC.  And not just because his shop is right across the street from me.  Ok, well yeah.  That factors in as well.

But Igor is a great barber, takes his time to make sure you get a good cut, and remembers your name every time you come in.  It's like Cheers, if only Woody cut your hair instead of serving you a beer.  Did I mention it's only $14 for a cut as well?  Well, it is.

Found this place on Yelp, Walked in one day after work.  There was no line, and I was greeted by a very nice barber.  I forget his name, but I know it was not Igor.

Anyways, he was polite, friendly, asked me a lot of questions about my haircut and how I wanted it, took his time and did a very thorough job.  He also was the perfect level of chatty and professional.

I was very pleased with the experience, and tipped well.  The only reason I don't give this place 5 stars is that the haircut hasn't quite grown in the way I like it to, but it wasn'tf or lack of skill or lack of trying on the barber's part.

    I will go back.

In Chicago I had my hair cut guy. After 6 years, he always cut my hair perfectly. Moving to NYC was easy, finding a new hair cut guy was stressing. I mean a hair cut is like a 1 month tattoo on the top of your head.

I stood outside this place debating, stressing, about whether to go in or not. After watching a couple guys come out with hair that wasn't butchered, I opted to try it out.

At $14 it's hard to complain about anything. My hair is medium length and Tim did a good job at keeping the same style, just shorter.

Don't expect them to style your hair or give any tips, but if you need your current style, just shorter, this place will do the trick.

OK, this is a barber shop and not a salon.  Given Igor's skill which I was blessed with this weekend, I wouldn't be surprised if he can do the fancy 'zac effron' layering type of cuts.   But I would not risk it here.

If you're hair cut is basic: scissor trim, fade, taper, faux, .. go to Igor.  Igor gave me the same haircut for 14+tip here in 15 minutes, than the same cut I got at a salon for 45+tip in 1 hour.

Only con is that Igor probably has a large clientele base and you may have to wait during busy times, but I think given the bang for the buck its worth it.

I'd give this more stars because it's been great and I've had cuts from a few different guys there, but the consistency has disappeared in the past year along with a regular staff.  Like a few others here, the last time I went I got the Russian lady.  Boy did she suck.  Took forever (Igor cut three haircuts in the time this woman got half way through), and then in the middle of it (40 minutes), it was clear that it was not going well so I told her just to stop, and I was going to go somewhere else and get it fixed.  She insisted she knew what to do, and I had to raise my voice and tell her to back off, so I could go to another shop.  Igor came and fixed it, but he had to cut it really short to even it all out.  "it will grow back" he assured me.  In the meantime, I'm rocking a new military look.

Igor's the man. Sure my hair is always a mess, but not when Igor gets through with it. I walk in and the guy looks at me and says to himself, "What did you do to my haircut?" and he fixes me up, and I feel like a new man. It's what a barber should do for you. Put a bounce in your step, after you shed a few pounds of hair and $14. I forgot that's how much it costs - I always leave him $20. Ok, I just gave you my barber. What do you want., Blood?

i don't like throwing around 5's is the only reason why this place got a 4. if i could, i'd put it at a 4.5

After i saw some bad yelp reviews i made sure to avoid any lady, I got Tim and he's the friggin man. Good convo, done quickly, it was just exactly what i wanted. recommended some good product for the hair and i was out the door in probably 20 minutes from when i walked in (no wait at 5 on a wednesday) and it's 14 plus i tipped him 6. yeah i'm telling you it was good.

i've got a weird upside down pear shaped head, just trust me, it's weird.... and gigantic but that's another story. However regardless of that fact he made it look picture perfect (pretty literally as i pointed to a picture on the wall and he did it).

to sum it all up. 20 bucks for a good cut, i know my new barber in NYC.

Do not get your hair cut by the lady (I've only seen 1 female there), she's terrible.  I went there last week and she messed up my hair and trapped me in the chair for an hour.  Despite that she clearly didn't know what she was doing, I was stuck and couldn't exactly get up and leave in the middle.

Also, watch out towards the 8pm closing time... there was a rush starting 7:30p on the Weds that i went.  Igor even gave people coming in close to 8pm the stink eye, so much that one customer felt compelled to apologize for coming at the last minute.  How about just closing a bit earlier so they can provide a friendly welcome to all of their customers?

I've been there once before and Tim (?) was friendly and did a great job.

I will go back once more to see if they can redeem themselves... obviously I won't subject myself to that lady again though.  Will update this review if they redeem themselves.

I walked away with one of the most upsetting haircuts of my life. First thing I said when I walked in was "not too short" he then measured out the hair in his hand and asks "to here" I say "yeah that's good" and then I get sheared, past where he measured with his fingers and down to almost nothing. I walked out of this place angry about the month it will take before it grows out. To be fair it probably was just the guy I got, but I wouldn't risk it again. If you go, be extremely specific about what you want and keep an eye on your barber!

I was distraught when Igor left Neighborhood Barber - I had finally found someone who could make my rapidly balding dome look decent.

Fortunately, he turned up even closer to home at his own place!  Igor has never let me down - always a great cut at a ridiculously low price and good conversation (he is a really interesting guy.)

I continue to get balder and Igor continues to make it look good.  There have been times over the past three years where I was forced to get a cut somewhere else and NO ONE has ever come close.

I cannot recommend Igor highly enough.  BEST CUT EVER!!!

I moved to NYC over 4 months ago and managed to put off getting a haircut because I wanted to find the perfect barber shop.  OK, I was just too lazy to get it cut, but once again, Yelp came through and I did find that perfect barber shop.

There was none of that crap about me sitting down and the barber asking how I want it, and me fumbling over words trying to sound like I know anything about hair styling.

At Igor's, I sat down, he asked how I wanted it, I said "shorter on the top, and shorter but not too short on the sides", perfectly clear and specific instructions.  There was no "How much shorter?" or "What number clippers?"... seeing as I get my haircut 4 or 5 times a year, I can't say the number of clippers to use on the sides is something I remember.  He just took his fingers to my hair and said "This short?" which made a lot more sense than the barber's who say "Are we talking an inch, inch-and-a-half, two?"..."Sorry sir, can't say I've ever taken a ruler to my hair."

He worked his magic from there in complete silence, with some classic 80s/90s rock playing.  That's pretty much how a normal lazy Saturday afternoon would be for me - sitting in a chair, listening to good music, maybe reading a magazine - just there was a guy cutting my hair.  I didn't feel pressured to pretend I lived a life that warrants me describing it to a complete stranger or to say "Cold out there today, huh?".

I was in and out in under 30 minutes on a Saturday afternoon which was amazing considering I had to wait for two other people when I came in.  The hot neck shave is an amenity that actually makes sense at a barber shop.  And as an added bonus, the hair cut looks great (if I do say so myself).

Igor's is exactly what I was looking for in a barber shop.

...and of course, you can't beat $14 for a haircut here.

Other yelpers sort of nail this place.   Igor is excellent and delivers the best buzz/clipper cuts in the city.  While sometimes the wait is long, Igor moves things along pretty fast and you can be out of there in an hour with four or five guys ahead of you.  (and he does a suprisingly good job, too against that time pressure).  Lots of good reading materials.   The price is right at 14 plus tip.

I don't believe in paying more than $20 for a haircut. This means that ever since I moved to the city I've been getting a lot of bad haircuts (especially at Astor Place where they left me looking like Leo DiCaprio in Growing Pains). But Igor's is awesome. They've done it right both times I went, for only $14. Plus it's at the nexus of the universe, which is worth an extra star in itself.
