The owner, Modi is a complete joy to talk to and extremely knowledgeable about fashion. Her resume is insanely impressive. She graduated from Parsons and has worked under Donna Karan and Armani! Whenever I have a shoplifting incident she is so supportive and listens patiently while I rant. Thanks Modi! The shop is beautiful and filled with many of her own incredible designs as well as other extremely talented designers. Her line is sweatshop free and produced by Thai homemakers who are paid fair wages and work from home so they can spend more time with their families. Yeah Modi!!

Since the moment I moved to Portland, I have been surrounded by designers - from the people I've lived with to the people I've dated...and seemingly everyone in between.  This has been an exceptional gift for an athlete/musician type who doesn't even pretend to know the first thing about fashion.

In lesser words: idom.

But walking into Idom and meeting the owner, I was instantly put at ease...because let's face it - even someone as inept as myself could NOT go wrong in this store!

The owner Modi and I chatted for a bit about her move from New York to Portland - and of course, all of the wonderful worldly fashion trips she goes on.  She recently opened this house-turned-boutique on Alberta and offers amazing Jenny Yuen bags, scarves and jewerly from her native home of Thailand; and even her own line of clothing.

Most importantly, she is an absolute pleasure, and I DID catch that she attended Parsons...the school where America's Next Top Model is filmed...which  proves that my fashion know-how truly is only pop-culture deep.

BONUS IDOM FUN FACT:
The name of the store is not a knock at my lack of fashion intuition, it's actually the owner's name spelled backwards.

BONUS LAURA FASHION FUN FACT:  I have been gently reminded that it is ACTUALLY Project Runway...not ANTM.  Clearly, my pop-culture fashion skills honestly reflect my inner fashionista.  : )
