Came here with a Groupon. The place itself it nice looking and the receoptionist, who ended up being my therapist, was nice. I am kind of over Swedish massage, so the shiatsu was so good. I noticed she spent lots of time in the areas where I was the most tight. I felt that she really knew what she was doing and the pressure was strong but bearable.

My only issue was the noise. I wasn't paying alot with the groupon, so I can deal with interruptions. But if I was paying the 105 full price, I would not want to hear the phone ringing every five seconds and hear each person who walked into the lobby. (My massage room was close to the reception desk.) I think maybe everyone else was on lunch when I came, and the phone seriously rang over and over. Then I'd hear a machine pick up and then it would ring again. My therapist even left the room at one point. The ringing still happened when she got back. It was an unfortunate last 10 minutes of the session.

I don't like to put a bad review but unfortunately I had to.. That was the the worst massage and service i have ever had!
Came here with a groupon - I was expecting that this will be a cozy place with a nice waiting area - instead there is a uninviting space with a fake plant, huge sign how much tip you should give, and lots and lots of noise. Had to wait long time before anybody told me what I should do, they were all running around and collecting money...and I was waiting in this lobby wearing only a robe - nobody offered me promised tea or sake...the massage itself was extremely painful and done by a annoyed guy who was not happy when I  told him hat I prefer more softer massage. Maybe for some people it's good..but seriously, I am regularly having massages and this was the worst. No feeling or relief nor relaxation afterwards..
    sooo uncomfortable..
and the reflexology that I had extra was a joke!
    Never again!
PS. and I don't like that they are offering $10 off a coupon for anybody who posts a good review of  this business - I really think that yelp should be banning such practices...the should be no incentives for putting up a good reviews.

I came to Ido because I bought an online deal. Deal was great but the experience was completely miserable. First off, they didn't actually book my appointment when I called. Thankfully for me, I rescheduled so was spared the annoyance of showing up to no appointment. It took several phone calls to sort out the unscheduled appointment issue before I was allowed to schedule another appointment.

The massage however, was heavenly. Everything hurt when the massage was over, but the next day my body felt so much better. Definitely one of the better massages I've had in NYC.

I've never been treated so horribly. All the other spas I have been to actually care about their customers, but not this place. Awful customer service. Take your money elsewhere for a more relaxing experience.

I get massages all the time and have been looking for years for someone who actually knows what they're doing.  Too many massages are performed by people who clearly don't understand anatomy and have no technique.

I initially went in for a Groupon and had the best massage I've had in New York from Issa.  He put some major pressure on when I said I could handle deep Shiatsu, and let me tell you, it hurts like &(*)&, and I felt deep soreness in my muscles for a couple of days.

BUT, it was totally worth it.  My shoulders felt like they dropped from their usual position (practically up to my ears) down to where they're supposed to be for a couple of weeks after.  It was a phenomenal therapeutic massage.

Ido isn't really a scented candles and pampering sort of place, and it's spartan and better suited for people who want a deep massage to cure specific muscular ailments.  But I highly recommend for those who are looking for a deep, effective massage.

I came here with my sister after purchasing a Groupon. This place was brightly lit and looked clean and modern. The locker room area was small. There's only one shower room in this whole place, so basically you needed to wait your turn. The sauna was unisex and it wasn't tucked away at a corner or anything, anyone walking by can see you in there - not that I was laying their naked or anything, but still I like it a bit more private.

The massage was done without oil, which was a bit odd to me. This massage was done over a sheet, but I guess it works. The massage was very painful for me. I told my masseuse to lessen the pressure, but it still hurts. I felt her bony hands against my back and felt my organs were going to burst because of the hard pressure she applied on me. However, when she stepped on my back that felt really good. Wished it was like that the entire time I was there, but I sucked up the pain I felt during the massage. Maybe it was just her and the other masseuses would be better.

This really is a place for serious muscle work.  Don't go and expect a light touch, or a place to nap as someone rubs your back.  However, you will get an intense, very physical, deep massage.  I had Issa who for almost the entire 70 minutes (yep, he went 10 over the 60 minute period), flirted with pressure that was too much, but only crossed the line once and when it was clear it was too much, he pulled back.  But as he went along, knots that I have had for years began to melt under his hands.  I left there straighter than I've been in ages.

I was impressed - the place is quiet, clean, and peaceful.  No, it isn't the spa at The Plaza, but you certainly aren't put off by the surroundings.  It's a great deal but prepare to really get your muscles worked!

Went to IDO on a groupon special and am so very glad I did. I had a terrific pressure point massage from Mal-mi who knew exactly how to walk the line between relaxation and un-kinking balled muscles. I got the extra hand massage to address some minor repetitive stress in my wrist, and am very very happy with the results. I didn't have time to try the sauna or the shower, though i did check them out and they were very clean. The online booking was a little confusing, so am glad was able to book another appointment in person after my appointment. The staff was very gracious and I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Did the Groupon 90 min package plus sauna. First of all, full disclosure I'm not writing for monetary gain here. While they do say that they will give you a discount (I think it's decreased to $10) if you write something, that's not the point of my review. Also, from reading some previous reviews I believe they have implemented some positive changes in response to the feedback, so that is a good sign. Read on...

Booking the appt was somewhat of an ordeal. I tried the online system but it didn't look like anything was available for a month so I tried calling instead. They told me I had to book it online, to which I indignantly responded, "you mean you can't tell me your own schedule??" They said they would take my number and call me back later. Fortunately, they did call me back after a day and they had availability the following week. You do have to put a cc number down to hold your spot. I arrived on a lazy Tuesday night and was promptly shown to the locker room and sauna. Everything was clean and pleasant, and the sauna smelled great. The shower was fine although I wish they would provide proper body wash, because the soap completely dried out my skin. At least there is lotion in the locker room. Bring your own products if you are so inclined.

My massage was done by Sam, who definitely knew what he was doing and had firm pressure all through the massage. Even though you can tell them to adjust their pressure, I figured pain would be somewhat involved so I did my best to withstand whatever Sam was dishing out. At times it definitely felt like a test in pain tolerance, and at other times it felt great. Definitely not for the squeamish; they do a very thorough massage and cover every single inch of your back and, well, backside. Trust me, it's one of the best parts of the massage, in a totally non-perverted way. (Really! You can stop giggling now)

I also got the reflexology foot massage which was really good, again thanks to Sam's magic fingers. This was the only part of the massage that wasn't done over a sheet, since they slather your feet and legs with massage oil. I wish I could have tried the scalp massage too.
At the end I went up to pay tip (agreed, it is a little bit tacky that they have this huge printout with suggested tips in the range of $20-$30), and I completely forgot about the "herbal sake" part (evidently so did they). But that's alright, I'm not a big sake person and I was already feeling pretty great after my massage. If you are however, you should probably remind them...

I have had many, many massages in my lifetime - some bad, some good, very few great.

My massage at Ido Holistic Center was (as the Yelp 5-star rating denotes) "as good as it gets".

I asked for deep pressure and, not only did I get it - but my massage therapist (Aki) hit all of the "deep and shallow" notes (muscles, tendons, what-have-you) with rare sensitivity and finesse.

I did the Groupon thing, and could never afford to visit Ido Holistic Center regularly (not even monthly) - but, boy, if I could, I would be here weekly!!!

I bought a groupon for 30 mins herbal sauna and 60 mins massage.  This new location that I am at looks pretty clean.  When I arrived at the receptionist area with my friend, it took them a little time to get things in order (it's like they were confused as to what needs to be done).  We then finally were shown which way is the locker room.

The 30 mins herbal sauna is not really a full half hour sauna, they start counting the 30 mins as soon as they are done showing you where the lockers are.  So for the 30 mins, you have to change, do the sauna, and finish showering.  For me, that's really just a 20 mins at best.  Also, it's not a herbal sauna, just a regular one, I don't smell or see any herb bags inside the sauna room.  One thing I don't like about the sauna room is that it's situated in a common area.  So while I'm in the sauna naked w/ only a towel on me, there could be men walking by and see everything inside.

The shower/bathroom looks spacous and clean.  However, it's a combo, which means that when someone is in the shower, bathroom will not be available, or vice versa.  Between me and my friend, we have to take turn showering and still get to the massage portion by a certain time, that means shortening one of our sauna time again.  Eventhough they provide a shower, there's no shower gel.  They do have vo5 shampoo and conditioner sitting on the shower room floor though.  There are personal care items in the locker room, but not the essential products that you will need, like lotion.  They provide items like q-tips though.  The impression I'm getting is that it is not well thought out.

Then comes the massage.  The room is dim and quiet.  Me and my friend were having our massage in the same room.  They did ask us before hand to see if we were ok.  We were fine with it since I know we don't or make noise during the massage.  The bed and head rest is quite hard.  My chest and face hurts from laying on my face for too long, and my arms are tingling because it was hanging on the side of the bed for too long.  Btw, these massage are not the ones they put oil on you.  You actually wear your gown and they also put a layer of bedsheet on you.

I did look forward to my massage since I read reviews that said eventhough those Japanese ladies look small, they do put muscle behind the massage.  However, the massage that I got was quite lazy, it's more rubbing than massaging.  I keep on hearing the noise they made from the bedsheet they put on me, even my friend noticed that and said I didn't get a good massage.

All-in-all, it was only ok.  Should've been better though.

I went here with my cousin from a groupon deal that she got online. To be upfront, it is my first time going to a Japanese massaging place so I don't have other experiences/places to compare it to.
The ladies were very nice, polite and courteous, and my masseuse always asked me if the pressure was okay. But for me, my head massage ( a different lady) could have been better if she were more attentive to all my hair in my face, and for my cousin, her facial massage could have been better too. Honestly, maybe I don't know too much about massage, or maybe I don't have stiffness and tension to begin with because I really didn't feel any different afterwards.

I am so glad to have found this little place!  I've gone 3-4 times already!  It's not luxurious by any means, but it does the trick.

It's fairly inexpensive and I'll keep coming back just because everyone is so nice there (although they don't speak much English so just ignore what sounds like a foreign joke on your account.  I kid).  But really, it's so rare to find such politeness in the middle of NYC that it's a treat to go.

When you come in, they ask you to remove your shoes and give you a long, thin robe to change into before you enter the sauna.  The dry sauna is filled with Japanese herbs (such as ginger, orange peel, etc.) and is incredibly relaxing on your muscles and joints, which is especially great for those brutal winters.  My friend, who has asthma, even said that it helped her breathe better.  I get a lot of back and shoulder pain so the heat helps relax my muscles.  And they're so polite - they bring you water while you're in the sauna and are always smiling!

After the sauna, you head to the shower.  Note that they only have one shower, and while it's fairly clean, it's again, not a luxury shower.  I would recommend bringing your own soap if you are so inclined.  I would also recommend bringing in a change of clothes or at least underclothes as I prefer fresh underclothes after the shower.  And after the shower, go look at your skin in mirror.  It will be glowing!

The massage is a shiatsu style massage and all the technicians are really good.  If you have the option, I would also recommend getting the head massage treatment.

After the massage, change into your clothes and walk out a much relaxed and happier person!  People may not recognize you.

My best friend gave me a Groupon for a 1-hour massage at Ido as part of my birthday present this year because she knows I'm a frequent spa-goer (who's had to cut back in the past year because I've been out of work). The day before my appointment, I went on their website to get the original price of the massage so I know how much of a cash tip to give. When I saw the price was $115, I expected a truly high-end spa complete with plush carpeting and heated massage beds.

Instead, I was disappointed to find out the spa appeared anything but high-end. The space reminds me of an old dentist's office--the walls were a yellowish-white; the carpet was industrial, gray office carpeting; the chairs in the front reception looked like they belong to an old dining room set; and the beds were NOT heated. In fact, when I complained that the room was cold in the middle of my treatment, the therapist turned on a space heater. I've been to cheap, low-key massage places in Chinatown with better ambiance and furniture than at Ido. With $115 per treatment, I would expect them to invest some of that into interior decorating.

Sam was my massage therapist and he was incredible! 5 stars for the massage and 1 star for the space which averages out to 3 stars. If I find out that Sam works at another spa, I would go there instead because I don't plan on returning to Ido. And like one previous said, Ido has notes posted all over (including the bathroom) say they are collecting Yelp reviews for a $20 coupon in exchange, so keep that in mind as you're reading these reviews.

Recently i used a groupon at Ido Center which was a birthday gift.. My package was $250 which includes an hr massage, special treatment, sauna and herbal sake

The service was horrible, they didnt give me a 1 hr massage, the girl did a very quick job although she was very courteous, and polite. I was expecting an hr massage but it was 45mins then she asked me to take my time to get up. I went back to the reception area told her i have a package that included, an hr massage, special treatment, sauna and herbal sake
she said no and insisted it was just a 45 mins massage and a herbal sake. I had to asked her to find my groupon and reviewed what it said.
that was another 10mins going back and forth with the groupon in her hand. She was very polite but pretended she didnt know this was an hour massage, even the groupon had it highlighted in bold on the very top of the page.

Ido Center: 1-Hour Massage, a Special Treatment,
    Sauna, and Herbal Sake

So later she told me another coworker would be giving me the special treatment, which i can choose from a list of options and that was only for 15mins. I had to go back into the room to change and lie on the bed. Exactly after 15mins, when it was over, i had to get up and change to go back out and sat in the waiting area.

Another lady called my name and said thank you and have a nice day. I reminded her that I didnt get my sauna and she said sorry for the confusion and suggested i should come back another day for sauna. Is very sad, because this coupon is prepaid, they didnt care about giving the full service. This is not what i expected for the price of $250. I was rushed from one treatment to another. They was no time for relaxation and this is a new location, it smell of fresh paint.

All throughout my treatment i could hear the phone ringing. And every one was answered in the same manner, if they are using groupon, when did they purchased the groupon. My room was near the reception area and the same message got stuck in my head.
They didnt have the main power to handle groupon customers. Every 5 secs the phone was ringing. When i was there for my appt, the girl had to make me wait for 10mins explaining the policy of the groupon deal.
They even had a chart PREPARED AND LAMINATED ON how to tip for groupon clients. Very disappointing.

Lesson learnt, never go for any prepaid services. this place was overwhelmed by groupon buyers and they didn't care to provide the service they promised and paid for!

I used a $65 Groupon (1 hour massage, 30 minute sauna, 15 minute service of choice (I chose a foot rub) and an herbal
Saki to top it off. While the non-massage related services were nice, I appreciated the massage the most.

For those interested in the experience, I will detail it for you. Otherwise, skip to the last paragraph for the summary.
You are first greeted by a host and asked to remove your shoes before you go back to the changing room. A key, towel and robe are provided,
You are asked to wear the towel for the sauna, then shower and put the robe on for your massage. The changing room is small but clean,
and complete with Aqua Net and Aloe Vera Gel :) The Herbal Sauna is also clean and at a comfortably hot temperature, lined with towels on the seating and floor areas.
I was lucky to have it to myself. Hung on the walls were several bags of dried herbs (Cinnamon, Ginger, Tangerine, Mint, and Japanese Root), each herb
designed to stimulate or heal or do  something for you. I could vaguely smell them, but it was nice to have around for the journey.

After a half hour, I went to the shower and used some of the not-very-luxe products (I'm spoiled by other spas that use fancy brands and sell it in the reception area),
and I put my freshly-pressed and well fitted robe on before the massage. I was lead into my calmly lit massage room and asked to lay face down with the sheet over my body.
The table was kind of Japanese (I think). Not the normally high massage table, this one was wider and lower to the ground, and had a shower rod suspended above from
wall-to-wall. I'm glad my masseuse didn't have to use it...I'm not a fan of that. The table was leather or pleather, but had a towel to lay on top of if you weren't comfortable (I believe one unhappy reviewer was horrified with leather...I don't see a problem with it).

The massage style was Shiatsu (meaning f"inger pressure"). The strokes were shorter and deeper than a sweeping Swedish massage. I have lower back pain, so this was a perfect balance of stretching and massage. My therapist, AKI, was fantastic. It didn't feel like a routine massage where you can sense an egg-timer going off in the masseuse's mind reminding them how long to spend on each body part. I had a concentrated session on lower back and legs, which is exactly what I needed. Also, my massage was without oil, which was a nice change. The entire massage was done above the sheet, with the exception of the 15-minute foot massage, which featured a cream rubbed directly on my feet.

After the massage, I changed and went up to the reception area where I was offered tea and herbal saki. Though not a Saki enthusiast, I really enjoyed this one. Very strong and very potent! I tipped well as they deserved it for the effort and the experience, though I was presented with a "proper" tip menu for Groupon or discounted customers.
They also encouraged using Yelp to write a review for a future discount, though they didn't specify that it be a good review. I would have written this review otherwise.

Overall, Aki (the masseuse) gave a damn good massage and Ido Holistic Center did a great job accommodating my Groupon. I only had to wait 7 days for the appointment. It's not a luxury spa in terms of amenities, but it's very clean, professional and comfortable.

Thanks Groupon for this "deal"... hmm massage was ok, but she never touched me, just over the sheet? What kind of massage is that? The "sheet-atsu"???

And then I heard some funny stuff from the room next door... that basically went like this:
    Dude: bla bla bla
    tiny japanese lady: hehehe
    Both: hmmm

What on earth!!! plus you share a tiny locker room... I mean this isn't a spa environment, more like an apartment. The Sauna was good and the people were friendly. But, not my thing, I had way better massages!

I went here because I got a deal through http://SpaSally.com.  The deal was supposed to be for an hour, but last month they had changed the rates (even for groupons and such) and even though it was pre paid from before the rates changed, they still would only give me what was the new rate.  So it was originally supposed to be an hour treatment, and instead it was a 45 minute treatment.  I wasn't that happy...But my deal was $25.

So the first part was 15 minutes in the sauna (which I snuck in an extra 5 'cause I wanted closer to my hour, they weren't really clocking me on that part).  The sauna was tiny, but I was the only one in there so I had no problem.  It was a nice sauna.

Then I had a 30 minute full body massage, and again, I think this guy felt bad 'cause I had bought my package before the price change and it was still months away from the expiration, so he gave me an extra 10 minutes.  Therefore I got back my whole hour! Yay!  The massage was very nice, especially for my neck/upper back which is always my most tense part and he did a good job fixing it.

The last 15 minutes was something you could pick, so I picked the facial.  I wasn't so much a fan of that.  He had a cloth on my face the whole time and just massaged my face, which I usually really enjoy facials but this one I did not.

So the moral of the story: nice sauna and good massages, but lame facials and make sure you have your coupons set up straight!

Acting on a Groupon offer, I visited Ido Holistic Center for an hour-long shiatsu massage. My masseuse was a gentleman named Sam. At the beginning of appointment, he asked if there were any areas that should be focused on. My neck and back muscles are coiled tighter than a love-starved boa constrictor around her mate and the deep & penetrating massage did a world of good.

Special discount aside, I would definitely return to Ido. It's within walking distance of Grand Central, the staff is polite & friendly. Why wouldn't I go back?

I first went to Ido Holistic because of a groupon and I was interested in Shiatsu - I had  only had thai and swedish massages before, so this was a new experience. If Swedish massage is what you expect, then this is different. They really treat deep problems, and sometimes it can feel like a work-out. But the results are great.
So as I understand that some reviewers found the massages "not relaxing at all", it is only because it is not necessarily meant to be a relaxing hour - but a therapeutic hour. Big difference here.

Well, all I can say is that I went again the next month, because Issa, the masseuse, had done such an amazing job getting rid of deep-rooted tensions in my neck and upper back and shoulders. And I will go again this month.

I also LOVE the fact that the rooms are minimalistic and elegant, that there is no cheesy ocean wave soundtrack (only classical music in the hallway most of the time - real music, not a bad arrangement of the Four Seasons). I have seen several Japanese clients come in so I trust that I am getting a good Japanese massage.

I went last week for a massage.....It was amazing I really had forgotten the importance of having this done. My body was so tight and let me tell you I could feel everything but it was so worth it all. You know you are being treated with the up most respect and caring. I needed this massage like really needed it. I felt wonderful after and I have another appointment this Wed Feb 8.
I realize NOW after not having a massage for awhile how necessary it is. I began to feel alive again and this will be a part of my caring for myself without  a doubt.....I recommend giving it a whirl

Sam did my massage, and he did a great job. He made sure I was very comfortable.
Everyone there was accomodating and friendly.
The walls were thin and I could here the phone ringing during my massage.  There was no music in the room.
    The room was well heated.
    Pretty solid.

I found this place via Groupon, and I am so glad that I did! Like another reviewer said, it is a little difficult to find, but what small business in New York isn't?

Making an appointment is extremely easy, and they call the night before to confirm. When I walked in, the receptionist was friendly and helpful, giving me a tour of the facility and then instructing me into the herbal sauna, which is small relaxing and cozy. Like S.M. said, the shower is small and fairly clean, but I took her advice and took my own bar of soap, which turned out to be a smart move. They provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, but they don't provide anything to put the body wash on, such as a wash cloth.

After the shower, I changed into the comfortable robe they gave me and had my treatment with Mil-Ma, who was fantastic. Definitely a fan of the facial acupressure treatment! I'll be returning even without my Groupon because of their fair prices, comfortable facility, and excellent customer service.

And just to be clear, I do not work for either the Center or Groupon. I'm just a regular person lucky enough to find this place!

I also went to Ido through Groupon.  It is a good barebones operation, which is what I like.  I"m the kind just wants the massage, I don't all the bells -and-whistles. Since this is Japanese-owned, I was not surprised by politeness I received when I walked in.  It's a small place, so there were some issues with the locker room and sauna.  There were 2 other women in there ahead of me and there aren't seperate mens/womens locker room and sauna.

The massage itself was good.  Mal-mi listened to my concerns (shoulder, calves) and went right to work.  I wanted strong pressure and she delivered.

Ido will definitely be on my list for a return visit.

I got the 90 min Groupon package with a friend.

1st - it was very difficult to set an appointment and more so for 2 ppl. i had to call over a month in advance to set an appt.
just as one of the other yelpers mentions, the bathroom was small and not well lit. they give you the cheap V05 shampoos and bar soaps ( at least have body wash). the sauna was small but nice and it worked out better since it was only my friend and i in there. The massage was good. just as another yelper said...there is no physical contact. the massage is done over a sheet that covers your whole body. which looked odd at first but i actually found it very comfortable and just as effective. in a way i felt less self conscious.

despite the good hospitality, the other downside is that they dont speak english very well so you want to ask or suggest something, the person many not follow what you say.

this is the 1st massage i had in the USA so i am not sure if i would go back again since i would rather try other places to compare.

I had a positive experience at iDo Holistic Center in midtown Manhattan.

This hidden gem on the east side of 45th Street is worth a trip to relax your mind and soothe your tense muscles.  I found the experience very serene and suggest this spa highly to people who want a great massage in a peaceful environment.

My visit started off with a 15 minute session in the sauna. The balls of herbs shocked my system at first but after five minutes I was able to unwind and enjoy the new sensation.  The heat was penetrating but not intrusive.  The scent opened up my breathing and calmed me.

After the sauna I experience 45 minutes in the experienced hands of Coco, my masseuse.  This was my first massage and from the results of my experience it will not be my last.

Coco started my session by asking me what area needed the most attention and then went to work.  Her strong hands  kneaded the stress I had been holding away and I left feeling clear and my soul feeling lighter.

The customer service was very professional.  Although there are several rooms you feel the individual attention provided by this spa.

This was my introduction in to self care outside of the normal hair, manicure and pedicure.  These are services that others can see.  A good massage I feel promotes good health and glow that will come from within.

I have been going to IDO for 2 years now.  I am very active with sports and with it many aches and pains and the practitioners here really focus on the tradition of Shiatsu and Chi energy - essentially finding areas in your body that are blocked from free flowing energy and improving those troubled areas with better overall circulation and freedom of muscle tension.  This place is the real deal - not some snooty spa experience.  My monthly treatments here are essential to keeping my body functioning well and respecting it for a healthy lifestyle!

Do not participate in groupons from this place! They treat you like second class citizens. Their attitude towards Groupon customers is ridiculously poor and I refuse to do anymore business with them. Last year, I participated and I wasn't able to get an appointment for months. Their massage was fine, but I found it rude and tacky that they put up a sign at the front desk that pretty much demands an obligatory tip (I customarily tip on the full value anyways unless service is awful), and the suggested tip for Groupon customers was higher than for people paying normal price. What is that?!

So this year, very recently, I purchased 2 groupons for Ido Holistic Center in Manhattan. I called immediately because I knew their appointments get booked for months on out and they informed me they would not be taking any appointments until Thursday morning, so I should call back then. I called back Thursday about an hour or so after they had opened, and of course, they were already completely booked for weeks and weeks (I don't know how this happened within an hour by the way). The lady then matter-of-factly informed me that they would not be booking any appointments by telephone for Groupon customers, and that I had to do it online. First of all, I find it extremely odd that a business would not willing to book any appointments by telephone.  I then told her that I would not have access to a normal computer until evening and seeing as how they had already booked for weeks in advance and had told me to "call" back on Thursday, I didn't want to wait that long to book, and asked if she could just make an exception. She said NO. Later that evening, after considering canceling my Groupon, I decided to at least attempt to go online and book. Of course, they are booked through August by this time and their system does not even work properly and will not let me book any appointments period. So I called the next morning and informed them that their website does not work. She took my number and said she would call me back to schedule - she never called me back. By the way, I'm sure if I called and were not a Groupon customer, she would have an appointment for me this weekend. I don't appreciate being treated like a second class citizen - what is the use of Groupon or running any promos then? I would rather pay full price and be treated like a normal customer.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon to get a good massage- my legs were sore from the crazy dancing all weekend and I needed to relax.
This place is a little hard to find, I ended up calling them up! Its right near Morton's Steak House if that helps. You take an elevator up to the 8th floor.
This place is run by Japanese people and they are really nice and polite. The first thing you do is take off your shoes once you enter, then they lead you to a changing room where they give you a towel and robe. The changing room has lockers too, and you don't need to bring your own lock, it is supplied. After you change into the robe, you go the sauna next door. While seating in the sauna, there are these huge bags of herbal balls and its supposed to be good for you. I walked in with a really bad cold, stuffed up nose and throat, but it was just so easy to breathe in the sauna somehow. I felt my nose and throat clear up haha. Apparently, sweating in the sauna will help them give you a deeper massage. I was sitting in the sauna with a couple, I tried talking to them but they didn't really wanna talk to me, so I just chilled. It was nice when one of the people working there walked in with a tray of water!
After that, you shower. There is shampoo and soap (both bar soap and liquid soap, of course, use the liquid one!). Its just normal shampoo and soap, if you want fancy Paul Mitchell soap and shampoo, bring your own.
After that you go back, I went to the room for a massage. Don't be fooled by the size of the masseuse, she was small but pretty strong. They give you a massage under a piece of cloth and my masseuse would ask if me if I was comfortable, if I wanted more pressure or less.
The shiatsu massage was fantastic. It was a full body massage, not just your back. They did my fingers, legs, back and even face.
After that, I changed back to my clothes and they served me water again which was nice. I also tipped my masseuse then.

    Some tips:
*If you are a female with long hair, bring a hair tie. Its better to keep your hair tied up in the sauna because you sweat. At the same time, it keeps the hair out of the way during your massage.
*the bathroom is clean. They put a pair of flipflops for you to wear in the bathroom. I kinda forgot to take them off and started walking around with them on, so don't do that.
    *bring cash to tip

I just left this place for a massage, it was AMAZING!! I highly recommend it. I get massages all over the world from all high end spas and I really recommend it. The staff were very friendly and nice. The atmosphere is very peaceful and relaxing too.
I took my mom here and she loved it also. Great place for relaxation and healing :) :)
    Will come back soon

Had a fantastic visit to Ido Holistic Center today. The facility itself is clean and well-maintained. The staff is very friendly and professional. They really go out of your way to make sure you have a relaxing and enjoyable visit. The sauna and shiatsu massage were great - probably one of the best massages I've ever had! I was also pleased with their little "extras," such as lockers for your belongings, tea after your massage, and cold water while in the sauna. These little things really do add up to make the entire visit enjoyable and worth your money.

I first went with my sister a few weeks back in February -- and I knew this was going to be my to-go place for a veeeery long time. I wouldn't say it's inexpensive, but definitely worth it, if it means you were going to feel recharged, less tense, happier, and more relaxed.  They are so polite, and have that Japanese sensibility, making sure you are well taken care of. It's one of the best places to go to if youre looking for a quiet, calm atmosphere where you just want to shut yourself out for a good 60-90 minutes to de-stress!

I do wish they had separate lockers for men/women.

They are very busy since taking the groupons, but they still maintain the same standards and attitudes towards full price customers and groupon holders.
I was early to my appointment but started about 20 minutes late than my appointment time.  As a busy Friday afternoon, I could understand and the masseur gave me exactly 60 minutes massage, not a second more or less.
She was very friendly and experience.  She went along my back line to my shoulder and neck, which were my problem area.  This is my first time of Japanese Shiatsu so I am not sure if it's the style or she was using some tool.  It hurt somehow after the treatment.
Overall it's a no frill massage center, convenient location with above average massage.

Went here with my bf and got a massage as a deal from LifeBooker. The service was great, greeting and making sure you were comfortable. The only thing I would say is that I would have preferred she worked on a targeted spot I had trouble with rather than do a typical follow the program massage.
My bf on the next bed had a guy masseuse and he said it was firm and good, but mine, on the other hand, was about medium. I wish she would have focused on the trouble spots and went firmer.
As many have said here, yes, they put a cloth over you and massage through the cloth. I feel without the cloth and oil may have been a better and thorough massage.
I would go back here for soft relaxing massage but wouldn't for targeted pain.
Also, it is nearly impossible to get an appointment. A little disappointed to have to wait 2 weeks for an appointment and having bad back pains then to be disappointed by mediocre relief. I usually don't go for a massage unless I have discomfort and to have to wait that long to get an appointment is just a bit too overrated.
I still have two more gift certs to this place, looks like they will be Christmas presents this year.

Came here because of a Groupon-it did take awhile to get an appointment-someone answered the phone right away but my appointment was almost 4 weeks from when I called. Okay fine no big deal. The facility is not luxurious. I enjoyed my treatment-if you are not a fan of swedish/sports style massage this may be for you as you are covered with a sheet most of the time and it was kind of a shiatsu/reiki/acupressure deal. They did not attempt any upsell but I am not sure I would be back as they seem pretty busy and I liked my experience at Tui_na on 28th better.

best shiatsu in town.  you simply can't get a better shiatsu session in nyc.

all their practitioners are good, but they are somewhat transient.  you can count on yuko.  she is the always there and best one there, thus you need to make an appointment if you want to see her.  she really knows her stuff.  her hands, feet, fingers, and even her toes have an innate intelligence and remarkable degree of sensitivity.  expect a super strong pressure but it doesn't brutalize even the most delicate body parts.  she is totally awesome!

if you can't see yuko then you gotta see yo.  her hands are amazing, just a superb shiatsu artist and she has a great sense of humor.

the basic session is perfect if you are tight in time.  if you can spare an extra 15 minutes then get the immune boost which is a special abdominal shiatsu to strengthen all the internal organs.  you will feel like a million bucks.

this is no spa setting but it is not suppose to be.  if you want pampering go some where else, but i wish you the best of luck finding a place with better shatsu than ido.

at ido you will be showered with customary japanese customer service from entry to exit and expect a great shiatsu treatment.  what more can you ask for?

This place is good -- if you know what are you getting into - so just be prepared. We found this place through Groupon and we had to spend some time finding an appointment because we specifically wanted 2 female practitioners, and I guess they aren't always available at the same time.

This place is very low frills and minimalistic. We had a couples room, which was perfect, but the only source of heat was a small space heater at the foot of one of the beds - so it was a little chilly while we waited for our practitioners.

The massage itself was great. My practitioner (I believe her name was Mayumi) was very sensitive to my needs and put a lot of effort into my problem areas. The walls are a little thin, so I could hear the telephone going off in the reception etc - but it wasn't too bad because it didn't seem like a particularly busy day.

I would rate this as a very effective vs. relaxing massage -my back felt great after but if you want relaxing, you should be hitting up a spa.

I had the WORST massage of my life here today. This place is awful. NOT relaxing at all. The massage room was cold and uninviting. The man who books appts and I guess runs the place is a terror. I couldnt wait to leave! The massage was so bad and so uncomfortable I wanted to ask her to stop but felt too bad. I think I'm done with groupons for good. The last several I've bought have just been really unpleasant experiences. There were signs all over this place basically saying that they are paying customers for positive yelp reviews. So I would be very wary of any positive reviews on here.

I had a Groupon $65 special. When I called Ido to book, I requested any time on February 14 -- of course, a potentially crazy day. But the pleasant young woman who answered said, "Yes, we have times available." She started to take my information. At that point, I heard a man's voice in the background (in Japanese). The woman asked me to hold, then I heard more conversation, then her hand covered the phone. She returned 10 seconds later and asked if I had a Groupon. I said yes. She covered the phone again, then came back and said, "Sorry, we have no openings for February 14."  Moral of the story: I called Groupon, told them about this double standard and Groupon handled it very nicely with a refund.
