The best part is the cake. As others have said, it is extremely moist. The frosting has a slightly oily mouthfeel to me. Overall, the cupcakes are delicious, not overly sweet. They are a little on the small side, compared to those from other vegan cupcake shops locally.
I like the velvet flavor the best. Chocolate and carrot cake are also great. Lemon is my least favorite of the ones I tried (a flavor that is usually my favorite).
My husband couldn't believe they were vegan.
The delivery was punctual. Rachael was professional and very nice.
I love Idle Hands!! -

Rachael the owner, is super friendly and went out of her way to deliver some awesome vegan cupcakes to my wedding. I was running around all day and didn't even get a chance to taste these delectable treats (so I heard) but from the horse's mouth, they were good.
She delivers all the way to Dublin, and it was most appreciated as it was a backyard wedding and we were all setting up or getting ready. She even let me use her cupcake tier the day of (bad planning on my part for not having one) which was a last minute life saver to say the least.

Review from Jen I.
I had the pleasure of consuming a delicious pumpkin chocolate chip cupcake at Wicked Grounds in SF back in November. I housed it in seconds flat and was instantly sad once it was gone.
So of course, I contemplated having another.
The cupcake was moist, pumpkin-y and absolutely divine. I'm glad that vegan baked goods exist and that Idle Hands knows how to do it right.Listed in: Yes Virginia, Vegans Only Eat…, Type II Diabetes

I eat bacon.
A lot.
I also eaten veal, chicken, all manner and variety of fish, horse, beef in a million forms, pig (oooooo delicious pig)... what I'm trying to say it that I'm the FARTHEST thing from a vegan you can get and you know what?
I crave these cupcakes.
No seriously... I bought one from her off the street from her little stand ages ago and didn't know they were vegan. I was hooked. Got her card and hired her to do cupcakes for a party... it was THEN that I found out she was a vegan cupcake making machine.
I now make a point of when ever I'm in SF to stop by Wicked Grounds to pick up my favorite (Cookies and Cream) cupcake.
Rachel is a peach. An organic one at that. She makes a quality product that tastes so good you don't have to say in hushed tones "Yeah, it's good for being VEGAN..." You can say "Damn this shit is TASTY... huh? What? It's VEGAN?! Woah..." -

My preschool-aged son has an egg allergy. And he has a lot of friends. Which means I needed to find someone who could make a sheet cake for his birthday--without any eggs in it. This, as it turns out, is not an easy task. I searched high and low for a bakery that could do a vegan sheet cake. And, thankfully, I found Rachael. I first tried her cupcakes @ Wicked Grounds and they were delish. So I signed her up for the birthday cake--and, man oh man, did she deliver. Not only was the cake to die for, but it was personally delivered to our house and reasonably priced. Our guests raved about how fantastic the cake was--how it was better than any conventional cake they'd had. I saw several adults helping themselves to second and third servings--that's when I knew I had found something special.

I'm with the VelociRaptor on this one, I love meat, all meat, and all meat products...(in fact my nick name is Bacon) I also love baked goods. As the manager of a bakery in Sacramento, I see and taste a lot of goodies, I also have a lot of vendors looking to bring product into the shop...This is the only vendor, and these are the only cupcakes I have had on display and for sale for special events including a couple of 2nd Sat events (they are a big deal here in Sac) The point being they ROCK, soft and moist, not to sugary or overly sweet, like a lot of cakes are, great cake to icing ratio, flavor, flavor, flavor, and more flavor...her Raspberry are made with Raspberries not red dye, the chocolate are to die for, and I have no idea what vegan cream cheese is made out of, but it makes some damn good icing...
If you have a sweet tooth, or enjoy a great confection, check out Idle hands and her fantastic little cakes, carnivore or hippie, I promise you will love them -

I had Idle Hands cupcakes at my wedding on June 18, 2011. We did the chocolate stout cake, lemon, and strawberry shortcake flavors. Rachael does a great job and the cupcakes were a huge hit. They were beautifully presented and her team set them up nicely. The cupcakes are reasonably priced and reaaaally yummy. I didn't even tell people they were vegan but it's definitely an added bonus.
Highly recommended, I will definitely be using Idle Hands in the future! Thanks Rachael!! -

I bought a cupcake from Rachel at SF Pride and I told her I'd YELP her cuz the cupcake was "tha bizness"! I wish I were vegan, I'd probably be a lot more healthy.
Something to shoot for. At least I know that if I do take the plunge I'll be able to get great vegan snacks! -

I was lucky enough to be a part the naming process of this lovely little bakery. Well, not really a part of the process. My opinion was asked however. I was also part of the testing audience.
Now on to the real review. I am not a vegan, will never be a vegan. That being said, I am totally addicted to the cupcakes. They are super yummy. I have no clue what Rachael does to make them so good, but I promise you will not be disappointed. I have lived in Santa Cruz and I go to Cal so I am well versed in the realm of Vegan baked goods both good and bad, and let me tell you these are some of the best. Good for dinner parties, weddings, birthdays, what ever, hell even just plain pigging out. Plus Rachael is one of the most kick ass people you will ever meet in your entire life. -

My cousin recently got married and in addition to serving "traditional" wedding cake she made sure to get a vegan dessert for the reception (yeahh!). The vegan cupcakes from Idle Hands were so good -- there was a strawberry one and a chocolate one and I had to HUSTLE to make sure I got one! It's funny, because I'd say 98% of the guests at the wedding weren't vegan but they sure did have a feeding frenzy on the vegan cupcakes. Watch out for my elbows when there's cupcakes at stake!

What is better than receiving flowers on your birthday at work you ask? Cupcakes at work! My husband thoughtfully had these cupcakes delivered to me at work for my birthday and they were a hit. So moist and delicious...mmmmm. After looking at the website, I still can't believe they are vegan. A great idea for anyone looking to surpise a special someone that works in Oakland!

I've had these numerous times which is why I didn't even hesitate when deciding on what dessert to serve at my wedding. It didn't hurt that Rachael's amazingly inventive and super professional. Always prompt, accurate and friendly.

Just came back from a party with these amazing cupcakes. My mom and I split ours so we could try two flavors, vanilla and the red velvet. So moist and just amazing. My favorite part was watching a little boy ask if the cupcakes had any butter, eggs or milk. When he was told they did not, his eyes lit up and he ran to tell his mom. So sweet...

It's a UPS mailbox, not a cupcake store! Spent time looking for parking on Grand Ave and paying meter, ugh! Not cool!! UPS Clerk tried to make me feel better saying, there were other yelpers who also showed up trying to find the cupcake store, when it's just a UPS mailcenter listing. YELPERS BEWARE!

oh how i miss the days of working at Mom's Body Shop and having Idle Hands dropping by to give us vegan doughnuts. the best part was, we never knew when we'd get some. sooooo yummy, and i'm not even vegan. in fact, i normally stay away from vegan food just BECAUSE it's vegan food.
are you vegan? no? doesn't matter. go get some of these baked goods!! -

I was out of town this week and emailed Idle Hands to see if they could, on two day's notice, deliver vegan cupcakes to my wife's work as an early birthday surprise. Rachael was super courteous and friendly, eager and quick-responding, and offered not only free delivery (wife works near Lake Merritt), but also to include a card. Delivery was exactly the time she'd said it would be, and the cupcakes were amazing. My wife had to fight people to save one cupcake to bring home to me to try, because they were, in her words, the best, most moist cupcakes ever -- vegan or not. And they were gorgeous! I ordered the pink rose frosting on chocolate cake, $40 for a dozen and so worth it (the regular frosting cakes are a bit cheaper, but hey, we got tons of extra frosting!). These cupcakes are a work of delicious art. I am so happy with their service and vegan awesomeness that I will likely not order cakes from anyone else in town ever again. Take note, they take credit and debit cards through Paypal. Thanks Rachael!

These are amazing, locally produced sweets made by a lovely woman who really cares about her product and her customers. I highly recommend her products. The cookies and cream, carrot, and pumpkin cupcakes are absolutely amazing. It's wonderful to be able to provide delectable desserts to those who choose to not consume animal products. It really proves that YES, NON-BELIEVERS, it can be done well.

I'm about to open a cafe in San Francisco and I'm so convinced about how amazing these cupcakes are that I'm going to have Idle Hands supply the cafe.
These cupcakes are so yummy and delicious that you can't imagine that they're vegan. But they are, so it makes everyone happy! And my life easier because I can sell delicious cupcakes and only have to find one amazing supplier! -
