I have visited the winery 3 times and each time it gets better!

To start with you get a chance to go off the beaten path to enjoy a beautiful home that has been converted into a tasting room.  Make sure to give a little love to the wine dogs wandering about!  On a sunny day you can sit outside and enjoy the view while tasting or drinking a whole glass! While the view outside is amazing, the inside of this hand crafted home offers its own views!

But you're not making the trek just for views and atmosphere - the wine is excellent! I enjoy the 3 Blonds but have yet to try something there that was not amazing!

Keep your eyes open for Don the wine maker- he is a great guy and really makes you feel like family when you are there! He will talk wine and answer all your questions!

This is a most stop for us when traveling through Leavenworth!

My boyfriend and I came here on our Leavenworth trip last holiday season.  We needed to kill some time and this place was super cute.

It's $5 per person but free if you buy a bottle of wine.  The staff is very helpful and great at helping you choose wines for your taste and style.  There was a great peachy pink win, but our favorite was the chocolate cherry.  We were both surprised because we don't normally like wines this sweet and he doesn't even like chocolate, but this is delicious dessert in a bottle!  We ended up buying the bottle which is a half-bottle size thing for $28.

To be honest, the wines here are not cheap, but they are good.  We were just visiting for the day, so it was worth having a bit of a splurge souvenir.

Cab sav very blant. Everyone expects reds to be full bodied and rich, theirs were niether. Sweet wines could be table wines. Good atmosphere though. Blondes not to be passed up.

There are about three wineries in this downtown Leavenworth area (all on the same street).  My family and I visited one, which I can't remember the name of now (I guess it didn't make a lasting impression), and then came here.

This place is down the stairs from the main sidewalk and the decor was very homey and inviting.

For $5 we were able to taste 5 of 7 wines on a list.  They were all quite tasty!  I thought I loved the Blonde and their Riesling...until the man that was helping us gave us a taste of something that wasn't on their list - the Just Peachy.  Similar to the Riesling but with a bit of peach juice that made it perfectly sweet and unique.  I'm not a big fan of the reds but their Syrah was wonderful as well.  Did I also mention that they have a Chocolate Cherry dessert wine?? OMG...

Anywho, we left with a nice buzz to keep us warm from the cold and four bottles of wine for later.  I can't wait till my next trip!

The best wine we tried was the sparkling wine - Muller Thurgau, which was good but pricey.

The syrah tasted flat and lacked the peppery fun of other syrahs.

The dessert wine tasted horrible! They say it is a good way to end the evening, but it just left a gross taste in my mouth. My partner and I agreed it was the worst wine we tasted on our trip.

They do not grow their own grapes, but purchase them from growers.

If you come here when it's busy and you look like a bum off the street you won't get service at all.  If you come in here and it's busy and you look young you won't get service.  If you come in here when it's empty and you look like a young bum you will get service.  The secret to this tasting room is only going when it's not crowded.  And when you finally get in and it's not crowded and someone wants to help you please try the White Merlot, it was one of the most interesting wines I've tried in years.  So interesting that as soon as I got home I googled "what is a white merlot?"  And here's what I found out:

"A white merlot is the same as white Zinfandel, except it is made from the Merlot grape.

There was a time when pink wines were known as "ros" wines. Now they are known as "blush" wines. As with white Zinfandel, white Merlot derives it's color by leaving the grape juice in contact with the red skins of the grape for a short period of time, usually hours or days. A deep red wine has the juices in contact with the skins for weeks.

It started in the Languedoc region of France, which is located southwest of the Rhone region, along the Mediterranean Sea. That region does not grow the Zinfandel grape. Wanting to get into the white Zinfandel market, ten years ago Fortant Winery, of the Languedoc, invented the category of "white Merlot".

Unfortunately I didn't love it enough to spend $50 on a bottle but I sure did enjoy the tasting and when ever it's not crowded I make sure to go in and ask for a taste.

So this was in the middle of our tasting rendevous....

    VERY NICE PLACE......

As Katie said they do have a tasting charge, but dont charge you if you buy a bottle....

She was SO informative and directed our tasting according to our palates. You see Loree is more of a white wine taster and me the reds.....

She bounced back and forth between the two of us with ease and was able to guide us through our tasting expereince FLAWLESSLY!!!!

We did end up buying a bottle of their RAZZAMATAZZ which is the white riesling with rasberry juice infused....

It looks like a rose but it is quite incredible.......

Defiftely worth a trip back and a trip to the actual winery.....

While I was in Leavenworth for our annual family trip my parents really wanted to go to a winery. I searched a few places in the area and it seemed like most were closed on Mondays. When we were in downtown Leavenworth the day before I noticed at least 7 tasting rooms, so I suggested we go to one of those. There wasn't anything in particular that drew us to this place, but it looked nice so we decided to check it out.

The inside is pretty classy. We were the only souls in the place so we got lots on personal attention during our wine tasting. The gentleman that poured for us was very friendly and talkative. I tasted a couple of reds, a couple of whites and the Chocolate Cherry Passion. I enjoyed all of them and bought a bottle of the Log Home Red.

I would purchase their wine again but probably only for a special occasion since nothing is under $20.

Very nice staff, very busy day tasting and so we didn't get  super quick service or as much information but they were still very accommodating. Cost is $5/person and includes 5 tastings which is waived if you purchase a bottle. Their wines were a bit pricier in comparison to a couple of the other tasting rooms in the area but we did leave with a bottle of their 2009 Sangiovese which was by far the best that we tried all day. Definitely stop in if you are in the area and out to taste wines!

    I liked this little store.

Quaint little shop for the Icicle Ridge Winery.  A bit overpriced - I wasn't a HUGE fan of their wine - but I'm a sucker for a good wine store.

You can get some good mementos here.  Gifts for your family, too.

Note: this page/review is for the IRW in Downtown Leavenworth, not their Log Home Winery location in Peshastin.

Icicle Ridge was our last stop (second-to-last if you count our trip back to another winery for some more Gluwein), and by the time we arrived, I was pretty knackered. Thus, my memories are slightly-less-than-translucent.

I do remember some great wine, but what stood out the most for me was the Chocolate Cherry Passion.  I'm not generally a fan of dessert or late-harvest wines, but this one was the perfect amount of cherry sweetness on its own or in addition to ice cream or cheesecake.  My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

The tasting room was fairly busy, and it was getting late into the night when we stopped in, but our tasting room rep was patient with us, even when we started raucously chatting with the group next to us.  I couldn't really tell if he was exhibiting an air of disdain and I tried--and failed--to determine whether he was impatiently annoyed at how unsophisticatedly toasted we already were.  At one point I wanted to (drunkenly) express how seriously interested I was in wine and how we weren't there just to get (even more) drunk, but luckily I had wine in my mouth most of the time so I kept quiet.

Overall, I admired the patience of the tasting room employees at this place, and I would definitely recommend their wines.  I wish we would have been able to get over to their log cabin, though.  Next time!

While in Leavenworth take the beautiful 5 minute drive to Peshastin {via North Rd or Hwy. 2} & visit the winery in their log home.

Hand built by owner Louie & ran by his wife & daughters.

Don't worry if you're a wine snob ~ their selection will impress.

Not into wine? Come anyway! The lodge is so amazing, it will entertain you while your friends taste!

I've been a wine club member since it's inception & I still find something new every time we visit!

Don't have transportation? Not to worry there either, they have a tasting room right on Front Street in downtown ...

    Enjoy!

This is a really pretty little place.  They charge $2.50 for 5 tastes, and refund that if you buy anything, so that's cool.  The woman was really friendly too- tasting the wines was fun.  We ended up buying a bottle of the Chocolate Cherry Passion dessert wine.  It's yummy, but I don't think it's worth the $30 we paid for it- I blame the whole day of wine tasting on that. ;)

Icicle ridge is not only my favorite winery to visit, but it also has the best wines. Tucked into the outskirts of Peshastin/Leavenworth lies a beautiful log cabin in front of a little pond that is surrounded by orchards and wine fields. This place is so cool to visit. I love to sit back and enjoy my tasting every time I am in Leavenworth. I love the 3 blondes Gewurztraminer(I have to pick up many bottles).  Great bold and fruitty reds and crisp delicious whites.  This winery has yet to be beat!

My husband and I visited the Leavenworth area and included some wine tasting stops in our trip. The charming Bavarian village of Leavenworth has about 8 wine tasting rooms in town (including Icicle Ridge) but it would be a huge injustice not to visit their log cabin tasting room just a few miles (an easy drive!) from town.

From the moment we saw this sprawling log cabin home from the road, we knew we were in for a treat! And the experience just kept getting better and better. The Wagoner family have transformed their grand log cabin home into a gorgeous tasting room. Louie and his family are the kindest folks you're likely to meet and will most certainly make you feel right at home. Louie will proudly tell you about how he built his 5,000 sq ft. home. The attention to detail and lovely decor is amazing. Once you get over the incredible ambiance (you can open the french doors and walk out on a deck to gaze into the large pond), a friendly host will begin pouring you wines. Yes, the experience just keeps getting better! In their large kitchen (where they also pour wines for guests), you can purchase meats, cheeses, and crackers from a refrigerated case. We made a lunch out of this and practically spent the afternoon at this lovely place. It was the highlight of our trip and rates right up there at the top with other wineries we've visited. (and we've been to Many...in California, Oregon, Washington, Italy and Australia) We would fondly recommend Icicle Ridge Winery as a stop on your itinerary while in the Leavenworth area. You'll be glad you did!
