despite being hidden in a strip mall that is hidden behind a bank and not facing either major road it is on (159th / LaGrange), this place is always packed on weekend nights. because the food is delicious!! great sushi, great appetizers. friendly service. the sushi rolls are huge.

I just visited this restaurant rececntly for the first time this past friday. It was a ladies night out so we made a reservation for six. When we arrived, edamame was delivered to our table similar to chips and salsa. I'm sad to say that was my favorite part about the food. I usually like to experiment with my sushi and went for something a little on the wilder side. I had a salmon skin roll and a spicy shrimp tempura/yellowtail roll. The salmon skin was good but the spicy shrimp was really bad. The tails were still on the shrimp (gross), and the fish tasted like the smell of fish. I had one bite and was afraid I would get sick so I didn't eat any more of it. Also, it was oily. There wasn't a sauce so I wasn't sure where the oil was coming from?? Although, my friend ordered the California Crunch that was really good.

I guess I should've known to stick to something safer when ordering sushi in the suburbs. If you do end up here, I suggest the California Crunch... but stay away from anything outside of the basics...

Ichiro screwed up a take-out order I made last week.  HOWEVER, the owner called me back to apologize minutes after I called to complain and gave me a full credit for my next visit (which will be soon).

The place is great mostly because their service and food are good.  Their location and interior (room space, decor) leave a shitload to be desired.  The south side STILL does not have a "hip" sushi place.

That is to funny about the location. I have lived on the south side for 12 years and I had to find out about this place in the hot hub at the gym. The sushi is the best and freshest in the south burbs. The chef's are quite entertaining when you sit at the bar. The prices are very resonable. Probably because of the last spot in the mall fire sale. Their cooked dishes for the anti-raw crowd are very good as well. Very tight quarters. Gets busy quick. One of my regulars.

Top notch sushi in the burbs.  They have FOOD, service, & a webpage that is on-the-ball. But someone get this guy a realtor. The location is in a tiny outfit behind the bank, behind the hair place, and across from the huge Best Buy on 159th. I'm trying to eat, not run away from the feds.

Otherwise, eat this. It's got it's entire menu on an updated website with lunch box packages that combine sushi w/chicken or steak for the cautious.  When you want to impress a client, they've got a clean, open restaurant with intimate seating. If you want to hard-to-finds,  there's country sake, Kandle Jackson Chardonnay, plum wine, four foreign beers, and fresh pineapple. Meanwhile, the cooks prepare the unagi with ginger and something that was making me looking it up. What more could you want?

They've got more than 2 years on the books. No personal checks are accepted. Reservations are welcome & Carry out only. That's ichirorestaurant.com.
