Love these ladies. They are super nice and always try to accomodate whatever your taste-buds are calling for. I like that they are really close to the house and have a lot of essentials that you can purchase like milk, eggs, and basic grocery items.
On most Thursdays, they'll have live music starting at 6pm. They post the music info on their FB.

Love this place! Wonderful meals and service in a charming neighborhood grocery. They take simple, comfort foods and kick them up to a whole new level of YUMMM: Delicious breakfast sandwiches and plates (bacon/avo benedict with mornay sauce, anyone?), plus handcrafted soups, paninis, salads for lunch. Also great for a sweet treat (homemade pie, coffeecake, cookie) and beverage. On 10th Ave W at Howe St., in West Queen Anne.

The Icebox is just down the street from my house, otherwise I'm not sure I would have discovered it since it's in a strange little 1-block commercial area surrounded by houses. I like the way I can rush in for something I forgot to get for my latest cooking project - they have a surprisingly well-stocked grocery area.
But it's the lunches that really shine for me. They make very generous sandwiches, packed with goodies and accompanied by your choice of a long list of sides such as potato salad, soup, etc. Their daily specials are always intriguing. I like to take my dad there every other week or so, and they treat us like old friends. Yesterday, for example, we tasted all their red wines to decide what to order with our lunch. I had a lamb shepherds pie that was delicious, and it came with a small salad that included toasted pumpkin seeds and sliced radishes - little details that make a big difference to me.
Since I walk by the Icebox frequently, I've noticed that they seem to be very popular for early dinners and weekend brunches, too. Guess I'll have to check those out as well! -

Just ate lunch at Icebox and loved it. I had the gazpacho and chicken curry salad and my boyfriend had the Ruben and potato salad. First off the staff couldn't have been friendlier! Our food was delicious, I recommend everything we got. I have a feeling this place doesn't get the attention it deserves. thanks to all the yelpers who wrote about this place bc otherwise we wouldn't have found it!

+1 Service - I was offered a refill on my French press coffee, which I thought was very sweet given that it was all I got on my first visit. Because I have a bunch of odd allergies, I had to order off the menu on my second visit and they were accommodating and the food was fantastic! I've also seen both women deliver food to Muse Coffee Co. next door for their coffee patrons.
+1 Ambience - rotating art on the walls, outstanding mellow music mix (interesting to listen to, and possible to tune out if I needed to focus), including "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits which I consider to be the best guitar song ever.
+1 Dietary Restriction Awareness - soy milk available as creamer for the alt-dairy crowd, and soy, rice and hemp milk (I'm still trying to find unsweetened hemp milk on Queen Anne, no luck yet!) are available for purchase in their grocery section. Bring in a list of what you can't have, and they can try to find food that will accommodate you - most breakfast items are cooked to order.
+2 Quality - I got scrambled eggs with garlic in a tortilla with breakfast potatoes and it was absolutely outstanding with an excellent presentation.
Icebox Grocery has a good relationship with Muse Coffee Co. next door so I recommend getting your espresso there and bringing it over or vice versa. Don't forget to bus your dishes back to the right place!
My Review System:
+1 star for Service - if the staff could not be replaced with robots, or doing so would not be an improvement, 1 star is awarded.
+1 star for Ambience - music, rotating art, nice lighting, comfortable seating, etc.
+1 for awareness and friendliness to Dietary Restrictions. This can very wildly from "has soy milk available" to "gluten-free / Halal / etc. items are kept in a separate container and separate kitchen implements are used for preparation".
+0-2 stars for Quality of Food / Services -

The owner has changed, but the business is OPEN. Folks, the food is fabulous, the owners are enticing, and I can't say enough about atmosphere.
Not only does the duo ownership offer those little things you forget from time to time, like eggs and milk. But you can get the best reuben on the planet.
Sit and watch your fav sport event, drink a Tecate with me!! -

First time here, stopped in because it was lunch and was hungry and the daily special menu looked great (Italian sausage sandwich among others).
Great little market / deli with a charm from time past. Despite the awesome specials, I went for the curry chicken-salad sandwich. I was not disappointed. Very tasty!
Free water, a fortune cookie and sincerely pleasant, friendly people ensure I will be back soon and often!
Oh yeah, the old-school Sinatra / Billie Holiday style music was perfect for the setting and added to experience... -

Open despite ice on the road, snow on the sidewalks and a chill to shrink the manliest of men. Not that I am the manliest of men, per se. I mean, I got the goods *ahem*, know what I'm sayin'? Well, not like goods like a sawed-off shotgun, but it ain't no pea-shooter, neither. More like a 9 mm. But in Centimeters. Wait, how many inches is that?
What? Oh, so Icebox grocery has a cute little bare-bones selection, and despite the small-batch orders they receive of the merch, they are priced quite fairly for the convenience. And while the selection is, well, take-it-or-leave-it, the products they DO carry are only the creme de la creme. The deli has fresh sandys and soups, and pasta salads and pastries all made in-house. Whether I'm desperate or lazy, I enjoy Icebox. And the loveliest of smiles in all Queen Anne's Kingdom can be found here.
Actually, no, it's not really like a gun at all, more like three Crayola markers rubber-banded together... the Washable kind, with the caps on. Like "scribble, scribble, 'I'm drawing a cloud', artistic stroke, DONE."Listed in: OMG I'm like, so cool WTF

This is my favorite place to stop in for lunch. The staff is super nice and helpful. The owner is there everyday cooking up homemade creations such as enchaladas, soups, desserts, salads, etc. She is always experimenting with new dishes, and kindly takes suggestions. IThey roast their own turkey for deli sandwiches which is hard to come by, and delicious. Be sure to order it with the homemade chutney.
The atmosphere is relaxed, and welcoming. A great place to grab a sandwich and read the paper. They also have some specialty items like wine, beer, homemade granola, etc.
Bye bye Icebox- You'll be missed -

It's so nice to find an old-fashioned neighborhood store/deli that hits it out of the park. First, the sandwiches and food is always excellent: the tuna salad is hand shredded so fine, that I imagine French Laundry will find it perfect, and it's also not over-mayo'ed. The soup is always perfect, always fresh and delicious. The gazpacho on a summer day is divine. Rumor has it that there are secret sandwiches that are not on the menu, but that's all I can say in public.
The decor is down home and quirky, and the service is supreme. Lauryn and Hang Yee is just about as friendly as your own sister and aunt, always looking out for the customers. Every neighborhood ought to have a shop like this, but only W. Queen Anne is so lucky. -

Honestly, I love this place.
Not for the groceries (which I'm sure are a bit over-priced, but they have a number of interesting products) but for the deli area.
The ice box chicken salad is SO GOOD... pulled chicken not drowning in mayo (I'm not sure if there's even any in there). I also love the daily small pizzas and really, most all of their choices. The dessert options are great too!
Everything is handmade by the super sweet owner, and everything I've tried is delicious! -

I love the icebox. In fact i eat there several times a week. My special Tuna sandwich is a combo of the veggie breadstick with tuna on top. Ask them for one if you like tuna, olives, artichokes, and cheese.
Love the staff. I always have the feeling like I'm eating in some ones warm kitchen. Hang-Yee, Lauren, and Yael walk over to the little eating area, chat, bring me water, ask me if there's anything else that I want. Sweet and personal not over the top. Then, there are the peanut butter chocolate chip cookies... -

Oh Queen Anne it's gems like these that make me happy to live here.
WONDEFUL Food, GREAT service and it's as cute as can be. Their egg salad sandwich with bacon was amazing and exactly how it should be served. Potato salad = perfect and I tried some of the cole slaw which was just devine.
Thank you IceBox for representing food the way it should be,
Sincerely Foodie :) -

This is a fun little expensive neighborhood grocery deli. It is stuffed with good foods, and the deli case is very appealing. sandwiches, soups, mac and cheese, enchiladas. top-notch service, felt very personal. You get the feeling that some items are priced reasonably and some are about twice what you'd pay at safeway.

Great place with great food. The sandwiches are really good, really big and really fresh. The tuna is more European style so it's not just a big ball of mayo. They also have a real corned beef on rye and an authentic Rueben. They also cook up great off the menu specials every day. This place a a treasure.

From the friendly staff and inviting atmosphere, this is a great new addition to Queen Anne. The menu offers daily breakfast, lunch and dinner specials. The bagel egg sandwich is the best in town and if your lucky enough to be there for the shrimp po' boy, salmon cakes, & the Sheppard's pie you'll be happy. The desserts are great too, homemade pies, cookies, & ice cream sandwiches!

This place is my absolute favorite place to go in Queen Anne. They seem to have the best of everything and I've also heard they sometimes do special orders for a product you're looking for. The owner is an absolute sweetheart and the staff is just as friendly. Their homemade deli foods are wonderful! I feel like a kid going to Grandma's house when I walk into this store.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I've been a Chef forever, But ya know what? I'm the easiest guy in the world to cook for. My needs are few, all I ask for is that the ingredients are fresh, flavorful, real and top notch; and have the food, service and execution be straightforward, and unpretentious. You get all of this in spades at the Icebox. AND, to put icing on the gravy, you get the skill of their culinary team and some of the nicest ladies I've ever met in the biz to boot. Living around the corner, I've eaten everything on their menu, at least twice. Everything from the crisp and perfect Panini's, to the freshly sliced deli Sammie's, to the delicious fluffy waffles, to their scratch soups, sides and most of their specials (always get the buttermilk fried chicken if you are lucky enough to see it), coffee cakes, salads, etc etc etc . I could bore or excite you to death by going on and on about how pitch perfect it is, how i have so many favorites, how I'm there at LEAST every other week, and how I've never been disappointed, but I won't. I'll just tell you one thing, If you are ever anywhere even close to The LQA, (Lower Queen Anne) just go, you will not be disappointed by this little gem.

I was so excited for this cute little grocery/restaurant to open in my neighborhood. I give the food, atmosphere, etc 5 stars because it is absolutely delicious and the owners are great. We would go there every day if we could. BUT- I gave it 3 stars overall because their hours are untenable. I have gone to the Icebox on numerous occasions and they seem to always be closed at the times that I want to be there. I have just stopped going because I get so irritated to show up and see darkened windows. During the week, I would love to pick up some grocery items for dinner or pick up a fast dinner, but they aren't open! They open well after I've left for work and close well before I even think about getting home. During the weekend, we sometimes make it, but they open too late for breakfast and close too early for dinner. They would definitely have a lot of business from my husband and I if they could straighten out their hours. My suggestion is to stay open later (at least 7!) during the week and even later (eg 9:00) on the weekend. I hope they figure out new hours soon so that I have a chance to take advantage of this delicious neighborhood addition!
