13 reviews for I Love Thai
The business must have changed their name from "I Love Thai" to "I Like Thai Food," but if I'm wrong then I'm missing a chance a First to Review.
It took a really long time to get my order of Pad Kee Mao ($6). I couldn't explain it really; Thai carts are quick and only lines of people can slow down the turnaround, but the lines weren't that busy. Hm.
The dish itself was okay. The chicken was plentiful and the sauce was a bit sweeter than I'm accustomed to, but it's not a bad dish. It just wasn't worth the wait.
So, I guess this is the spot for reviews of the "I Like Thai Food" food cart on 10th and Alder, so this is where I'm going to park this.
Just like yesterday, I had a tough time choosing which food cart to hit up today and, also like yesterday, I was faced with multiple sources of "Thai" cuisine. Why I have this affinity for Thai food at the food carts mecca-- when there are plenty of other cuisines from which to select-- is beyond me. Nevertheless, I was feeling like Thai food for lunch so that is what I had.
I opted against the usual pad thai-- my staple order at any Thai restaurant or food cart to-date-- and selected one of their fried rice offerings. I was hesitant at first, thinking: "It's fried rice, dammit. What would be cool and unique about that?"
But, boy was I happy with my choice of the "Chicken Spicy Thai Fried Rice"! It was perfectly flavored with just the right amount of spice to give each mouthful a kick. My only complaint is that there wasn't much chicken in the dish. I think I counted only about six or seven little slivers; the rest comprised of the rice, onions, fried egg, and bell pepper slices. And, I swear there was a little bit of coconut milk in it, but that could've just been my imagination.
At $6.00 USD, it was a huge-ass meal for a good price. Thankfully, I was famished, and I did a pretty good number on it. Still, I wished there was more chicken pieces; it would've resulted in a "meatier" review.
Great food and friendly service! For $6.00, I had the Pad See Ewe with Shrimp. The dish included five large shrimp, scrambled egg, crunchy broccoli and tender carrots. I can't really critique I Love Thai's authentic Thai flavors until I visit in a couple weeks. My lunch is gone and I have no regrets. However, I think I had too much because afterwards I had to take a nap. Mmmmmm...Zzzzzzz.
When this place was "I love Thai" I loved it. The food was good, portions were huge, loads of flavor, and $5 for everything (oh and $1 Thai teas).
I showed up one week to find that it was now "I Like Thai" with $6 entrees and $1.50 Thai tea. Slightly disappointing, but I ordered anyway. BIG mistake. My two fav Thai dishes are yellow curry and chicken pad thai, both of which used to be delish at this cart. The yellow curry I had since the change was mediocre at best. There is another Thai cart in the lot that I frequent now.
Uh, yeah- what's the deal? I thought I was hallucinating today when I went to get lunch at I Love Thai and it read I Like Thai. With today's meal, I don't even "like" it from there anymore. And that will be the last time I go there because at this rate, next week it will be called, "I Tolerate Thai Food", and then "I Thai Food", then just, "Food".
Yeah, the quality has really gone downhill. I ordered a red curry today with chicken, medium. No flavor and the slightest bit of heat. I literally had to add two packs of salt and pepper from our condiment drawer to get any sort of taste out of it. Same consistency as Tom Kha Gai soup. No bueno.
I appreciate the portions- they're huge! And they guy at the counter is really nice, but those two things won't keep me coming back.
I LOVE THAI, just not from I Like Thai. Stick with Sawasdee around the corner. It's worth the wait.
Heeeey! You do? Me too!!
I love thai too!!
hey!! ya know what i like more?
Good thai.
Thai with flavor.
Thai with actual SPICES.
Thai that doesn't leak out of it's container on the walk home and soak my coat in coconut milk, thus perfecting my Monica Lewinsky impression.
Yeah. I love that waaay more.
This place is now called "I Like Thai Food" new ownership.
Not as vegan friendly, upped a $1 in price (understandable) and the veggies aren't as vibrant.

Horrible. I have eaten here on multiple occasions, and it has been more than disappointing every time.
The curries are watery, and flavor lacking. The pad Thai was the worst I have ever tasted. Just for a reference, I was extremely hungry when I ordered the pad Thai, and I could not mutter the strength to take more than 3 bites. I tossed it in the trash, where it belongs. The garlic and black pepper chicken is absolutely horrid. Under-seasoned and bland chicken served with under-seasoned veggies and a mess of liquid which is, as of now, undetermined. Blah.
If you are in the area and feeling like Thai food, check out Sawasdee, or the recently opened Nong's Khao Man Gai. Stay away from this horrible place!!
Only $5 for delicious mussamun curry and steamed rice enough for two people?
hell yes!
We need carts like this around Orange County.
It'd be closer to $6 here though because we have sales tax.. which sucks.
Maybe I should move to Portland....oh wait, They don't have rent control there so I guess it cancels out.
You can also get a really good and decent sized Thai iced tea for only $1 more.
+ great food
+ extremely affordable
- cash only
i love thai food. thai food thai food thai food.
here it goes down, down into my belly.
i mean really, i make a meal of it almost once a week. i have easy access to it, there's a restaurant in the building where i work (dangerous!)... but really i can't afford to eat out this much.
UNLESS: i hop on over to the food cart plex at 9th and alder!
i love thai serves up heaping helpings, everything on the menu is $5. so heaping that it's enough for two meals. so that's only $5 to stuff my face TWICE!
my favorite thing to get is the spicy eggplant. it's served with rice and is super tasty, spicy but not too spicy. eggplant can be easily undercooked, or overcooked and flavorless- but every time i've gotten it at i love thai, it's been cooked to perfection.
caution, though, you're going to want to dive right in, but wait a few minutes for it to cool down our you will scald you taste buds! that's never fun, trust.
I love I Love Thai's Thai food. It doesn't help that it's mere steps from my office and therefore far too tempting. $5 for the equivalent of two lunches is a deal that can't be beat - plus it's super tasty. AND - I hear from the falafel guy across the way that of the three Thai places in "cart row", it's by far the cleanest and the least greasy. All that being said, best to take a pass on the Tom Yum soup... and carry your curry carefully, as there is a possibility of leakage if they have been a little overly generous with their servings.
Best yellow curry I have had in Portland...and I've been around and am a food snob. Better than Sawasdee, better than Baan-Thai, better than Peem Kaew, better than Saigon Kitchen. Big, perfectly cooked veggies and fried tofu, perfectly spiced.
To the many vegans out there: they have vegan fish sauce, which is mushroom-based and awesome. Unlike one reviewer who was worried that the girl working the cart did not understand what vegan meant, I simply asked simply if she did vegan and she was the one who explained to me how she can make the dish vegan...I completely trust this cart. Others were wary of this cart's noodle dishes, but I want to go back and try one...though in general I think the carts have the best curries and the restaurants the best noodle dishes.
I live a block away and will go here again soon...maybe tomorrow.
this place is not as good as it was when the old owners used to operate it. the food is mediocre here and no longer the best anymore. it's not vegan friendly even if they try to pass it as "vegan." i rather eat at sawasdee thai cart than this place.
