Whenever I'm in NYC, I stay right on 32nd and Broadway, the start of Koreatown (which is actually just a block). But I walk up to 35th to go here for their Ccham Ppong, spicy seafood noodle soup. It's a staple that I grew up on in Korea. It's like our version of pizza delivery, instead we ordered bowls of noodles. So far in Manhattan, it's the best place to get it.

Their Spicy Chicken is also amazing with it's crispy golden crust and that amazing garlic/pepper sauce that gives it that clear shine. I have noticed that the chicken is slightly undercooked (barely raw) on multiple occasions that I've gotten this dish. I think it's on purpose to keep from over frying the crust, OR it could be just that the chicken is so tender that it just seems under cooked. Either case, I will always order this dish because it's better than TangSooYook (Korean style sweet & sour beef).

Sorry about this a bit harsh review with -1 star, but I gotta be honest.

A friend of mine and I recently visited this restaurant for some basic Korean-Chinese food. She is a big Korean food lover( You know who! :P ) I had to introduce this kind of food to her. In Korean history, this food is necessary! In my dad's generation, this food was really expensive so people couldn't have this except on their graduation celebration. People couldn't afford their own plate, so they used to share one with others. (Imagine how expensive it was..) In my generation people ate this when moving out or moving in. I don't know why the tradition(?) started that way, but that's how it is.

Anyways, we ordered Jja-jang-myun, the basic dish which is noodle with black(or brown) sauce, and Pal-bo-chae which is a combination of 8 different seafood and sauce. To be honest, Jja-jang-myun was not good; noodle was too thick, just like the noodle in Woodong (Japanese style noodle soup. not ramen!) Comparing to the one I had @ Kum Moon Do(http://www.yelp.com/bi...) which is the best, this one was disappointing. Pal-bo-chae? The sauce was a little weird. When Pal-bo-chae @ Jang Won Ru(http://www.yelp.com/bi...) which is the best I believe, Pal-bo-chae tasted very clean and mild. However, the one at Hyo Dong Gak wasn't like that. I didn't like the dish. :(

So.. sorry but I can't give more than three stars this time.

I really like their sam sun gan jja jang (this is seafood/mixed jja jang myun with sauce that has been fried in a pan, it's slightly different than regular jja jang myun, although many people cannot tell the difference). I ordered this last night with ggam poong gi. I love that their jja jang sauce is not overly greasy. Some jja jang sauces have so much oil in it and can be overwhelming. At Hyo Dong Gak, it's not as greasy. Also, the sodium content here is lower, which I appreciate. You can always add your own salt.

While I think their ggam poong gi is delicious, it doesn't taste like traditional ggam poong gi. The sauce is a bit thicker and more chunky than what I'm used too. Also, it's more sweet and syrupy--similar to tang soo yook sauce. Not spicy at all! I didn't mind though, as it is delicious.

I wish this place had ggak doo gi, but their kimchi is good. Also, they bring out endless plates of dakgwang upon request if you run out. Service is friendly and efficient. This is a wonderful Korean-Chinese style restaurant. Lots of their other dishes are very tasty as well.

Mellow praise is all I've got.

The jja-jang-myun / jjam-bbong staple either get under or over flavored, but if you want Koreanized Chinese food, it's the best this side of Manhattan has to offer.

Order the spicy seafood noodles with the brown sauce for ten bucks.  It definitely didn't tasted spicy at all but that could be my waiter mistaken my order. Whatever...it was still good and I left happy.  I would definitely come back as there seem to be more interesting stuffs to try as well as the noodles with the brown sauce...

Breakdown of the noodle dish:
The noodle came in a large bowl with some green garnishes on top.  It is kind of like spaghetti but a little bit chewier and long. I was slurping this stuff up and was wondering where the end of the noodle is...In the end, i just bit it off...
The seafood in brown sauce was placed on a separate bowl but I just mixed it in with the noodle as I had watch it done so in kdrama.  MIXED IT WELL as it gives flavors and texture to the noodles.   There was some pieces of meat, shrimps, squids but a lot of onions.  The sauce is something that I cannot describe as it is something that is unfamiliar to me BUT IN A GOOD WAY...

When three dudes roll to lunch together, certain rules have to be followed:

1) You've got to order meat - lots of meat. No calorie counting allowed.
2) You've got to talk about girls, sports, and other manly things, like jerky and NASCAR.
3) You must provide and maintain maximum space between one another.
4) Beer is highly recommended (disclaimer: no light beer, no fruity Blue Moons).
5) Order enough food to be comatose-full by the end.

I showed up with a list of dishes to try from the other reviews, but all written in Korean (I wasn't going to try to pronounce them, merely point). When I sat down, the entire menu was in black and white English, so that kind of defeated the purpose. I ended up scrapping the list, and going with what sounded safe. I didn't think much of it at the time, but now I realize that we probably got some kind of American / White Boy menu. Kinda lame.

The tapas weren't overly impressive, but our entrees made up for it. The shredded beef and Mandarin chicken dishes were perfectly done - huge portions, with flavorful broths and veges. I chose the worst dish (naturally) which was a chicken and glass noodle entree that was close to about 80% seaweed. Too much of an overpowering flavor for my taste.

All in all, we managed to fulfill all of the previously mentioned man duties by ordering some OB's, a good Korean beer. Everything was decently priced, and the service was fine. Unless someone shows me a better Korean spot beforehand, I'm going back to get the noodles in the black bean sauce, because now I know what it is besides just the name jjajangmyun.

Jjajangmyun... hit the spot for me!  I really do think it was good, but this might be because the last two times I had it were my failed attempts to make it myself.  Then again, I was following my friend's recipe... my friend, who, last I went shopping with, brought a color wheel [think 5th grade art class) to match his face with the clothes he was buying...

The mapo tofu I am not so much a fan, but probably because my mom's is so freaking fantastic.  And too kimchee-spicified.  Side dishes were... erm... ok, but nothing to write home about.

Regardless, I haven't had jjajangmyun this good since pre-obama days and have been deprived.  Am glad to have found a comfort zone.  =)

Easily the best korean place for jjangmyun in the city!

Let's have a terms & definitions post here.

1) Jjajangmyun - Noodles with black bean sauce, comes with meat and veggies.  You can get the seafood version as well.

2) Tangsooyuk - It's really hard writing in konglish which means korean + english.  Not that I am fobby enough to type in korean.  This dish is fried beef or pork with a sweet and sour sauce with veggies.  Unlike the chinese equivalent of sweet and sour pork, there is no artificial "i will die if i eat this red sauce" business, you just get the "my arteries will clog from eating so much fried food."

3) Kkangpoongki - Spicy chicken with veggies.  Delicious, crisy, juicy - what more can you ask for.

This place is no frills.  You won't get the reception of even the ambience of Shanghai Mong which is located on 32nd & Broadway, but the food is definitely eons better than that joint.

To be clear, you go to Hyo Dong Gak for the jja jang myun.

So if a big bowl of black bean sauce noodles is what you crave, trek three blocks north of Koreatown to procure them here. Skip the mandu, they're not special.

jjajangmyun: bad first date food.
jjajangmyun at hyo dong gak: just plain bad*.
the tangsooyok, not much better.  and the banchan, minimal.

3 stars for everything but the food - nice, friendly wait staff, quick service, and clean surroundings.

*and im not a jjajangmyun snob - i prefer jjapaghetti most of the time.  seriously.

Have come here on and off for over 10 years.  The taste is never change, the quality is good.  The best of all, it is not expensive at all.  I often have the spicy seafood noodle soup.  It just warms you up.  I am a soup person, and the noodle soup dishes there just provide instant gratification and comfort to me.

I often bring my non-Asian friends there, and they enjoyed the dishes there as well.

During lunch hours, the business there is just crazy, the queue is long.

I am definitely a little biased since I've had some awesome jajangmyun (jjm) in Korea and LA, but this place was probably the best one I've had in NY. If I could, I'd give it 3.5 stars.

The jjampong wasn't too bad, but make sure you order the gan jjm. The banchan is pretty modest, but they were more than willing to give us more kimchi when we asked. The service was good, and I'm sure if I ever want a jjm fix, I can head to Hyo Dong Gak.

I love jajangmyun!!! One of my favorite things to eat and this place did not disappoint.
Tried Hyo Dong Gak for lunch on a Monday around 1pm. Upon entering, I notice there are alot of customers and the host seats me immediately. There are many workers and like most Korean restaurants, the service is quick. Menu, check. Water and some side dishes, check. I place my order for 1 jajangmyun and it's out in less than 5 minutes. I sprinkle some go choo ga lu (red pepper powder) and start eating. Delicious!! Not too greasy like some of the bad ones I've tried.
Lunch was $6.95, with tax $7.55. Not bad for a big bowl of noodles that fills you up. (Menu on window outside said $6.45 though) This place easily becomes $11+/person if you order something else like a meat dish (hence the "$$").
Overall, very good and highly recommended for jajangmyun. Yum!

hyo dong gak is a korean-chinese restaurant.  to explain this concept, think of the chinese food in america.  it isn't real chinese food, but chinese food engineered to please american taste buds.  in kind, this chinese food is designed to please koreans.  the dishes that follow this are jja jang myun (noodles in black bean sauce), cham pong (spicy seafood noodle soup), tangsooyuk (sweat and sour pork), and kkangpungki (spicy chicken).

you should definitely try their jja jang myun.  it is memorable, especially the gan jja jang (the sauce is thicker, and the onions bigger).  i'm not a huge fan of their cham pong.  their tangsooyuk and kkangpungki are enjoyed by everyone.  i have taken many of my friends (non-koreans), and all of them love these two dishes plus the fried mandoo (korean dumplings).

DO NOT ORDER HYO DONG GAK FOR DELIVERY.  it takes forever, the noodles come clumped together, and the skin on the tangsooyuk and kkangpungki comes mushy because the sauce doesn't come separately.  everything just tastes better when you go there.

jja-jjang myun.  Yum.  I haven't had the chance to try the dish at Shanghai Mong, but I can at least assure you that Hyo Dong Gak, despite the bustling nature of lunchtime service, was more than able to deliver high quality jja-jjang myun to our table... Noodle consistency was good -- appropriately springy, without being hard, brittle, or mushy.  Sauce was plentiful, though the flavouring of the meat was a tiny bit bland for me.  I would have liked having the option for more noodles, but hey, beggars can't be choosers.

The Mundoo we had was okay.  Not thoroughly impressed.

I definitely eyed the neighbours with the jjambong with envy.

Decor is consistent with the Korean/Chinese focus, with art very suggestive of that origin.  (If you wanna discuss that, I'd be happy to, but I'm too tired to type it out.)

Looking forward to trying it again!

I love Korean-Chinese style noodles, and in Manhattan, it is only here and Shanghai Mong for me.  I could never choose between the two because that's like asking a mother to choose her favourite child.  Not that I would know what that's like, but no mother I know can answer that question.  Anyway, on to the food.

I like jjajangmyung, but ganjjajang is my true love.  I like to mix the sauce myself with a boatload of the Korean pepper flakes, so the separated sauce is convenient.  Another great option if you like seafood and spice is the spicy seafood jjajangmyun, although don't expect too much heat if you like really spicy foods.  The jjambong is the other reason for coming here, although it's way too bland... and considering the whole point of jjambong is the spice, it is disappointing.

It's much better to go with someone who can read the Korean menu.  The food here is not traditional Chinese, but Korean version of Chinese food, so the English menu will disappoint if you're looking for noodles with brown sauce from an authentic Chinese place.  While I've had the non-noodle dishes, it's not that great.  Stick with what they're known for!

Lesson learned: Jjajangmyun take-out is not the same.

We were working late when the jjajangmyun craving hit. A quick call to Hyo Dong Gak and we soon found a bowl of gan jjajang sitting in front of us. Unfortunately, anticipation turned out to be highlight of our meal. The white rice noodles were stuck together and took 20 minutes of chopstick work to loosen up the noodles and massage in the jjajang. The sauce was lighter and slightly oiler than I expected it to be.

We also had an order of the sehwoo (shrimp) gan poong gi that was sweet, crispy, and spicy in all the right places. mmm..

So although I didn't have a good experience with the jjangmyung, I'm giving Hyo Dong Gak an extra star anyway. Benefit of the doubt because I'm sure the cold weather affected the noodles during delivery.

Yesterday, a group of Korean co-workers and I ate at this place. I'm Korean-American...the co-workers are straight-up FOB Koreans.

They love this place. It's the best Korean-style Chinese food in the city.

I don't want to be redundant to the previous reviews, so I will add these points:

- tangsooyook (the fried pork thingies): ask for NO VEGETABLES. This way, you will have a boatload of the meat.
- The place closes at 10pm. This ain't no 24-hr K-town joint.
- Don't expect a lot of ban chan (tapas). We only had small bits of kimchee, ddak-kwang (the bright yellow stuff) and raw onion. By the way - drench the ddak-kwang + onion in vinegar before you eat. It's way more delish that way.
- It gets PACKED. On Friday night, until closing time, there was a line. We reserved a table because we had a party of 8.
- Next door is a Korean bar with $5 cocktails. I know, slightly OT, but I figured I'd throw that in, just in case.

I will now attempt to keep this unbiased review of Hyo Dong Gak factual.  Precise and concise, also.

Fact #1 (Please note that I use the pound-sign as opposed to writing out "number" or using the 2-extra character abbreviation that is the numero-sign)

Hyo Dong Gak is the only traditional Korean-Chinese restaurant that I know in Manhattan.*  Hyo Dong Gak is where you go when you have a simple and focused craving for the likes of Jjajangmyun, Tangsuyuk, Haepari Muchim, Jjamppong, Mul Mandoo, and Kampungi.  If you want the fusion stuff, please, still goto Hyo Dong Gak and see first what you are about to diffuse away from.

Fact #2

I am Korean (Perhaps this is a dependent clause for Fact #3, if you preface it with a "Because")

Fact #3

I have Korean-Chinese food cravings that need be satiated within 5 hours (or I become angrier than the average angry Korean boy).

Fact #4

Hyo Dong Gak makes delicious Korean-Chinese food.  This is fact.  If you do not agree, you do not like fact.  You probably are not very good at Trivial Pursuit.  Definitely horrible at Scattergories.  Cannot even start to comprehend Connect-4.  Of course, you still try.  Only to fail.  Miserably.  You could use some Hyo Dong Gak to pick up your spirits/morale.

Fact #5

Joolie T., YJ H., Kemi K., and Susan P. all gave Hyo Dong Gak 5-Stars.  They, clearly, are incapable of lying (and neither am I).

Fact #6

Hyo Do(h) means "to do nice for parents" in Korean.  When I dine at Hyo Dong Gak, I feel that I am doing nice for my parents.  Especially for Mother, since she urges me to "eat well" every time we speak on the telephone.

Fact #7

My father owns Hyo Dong Gak.**

Fact #8

When you eat Jjajangmyun, your shirt decorates itself with black specks of Jjajangmyun sauce.  Wear it proudly.  But be sure to treat it before you launder.  Jjajangmyun have grease that makes shirts not so happy (in the long-run; In the 100m dash, much happiness for shirt).

Fact #9

Replace "Jjajangmyun" with "Jjamppong" and "black" with "reddish-orange" in Fact #8.

* Not fact: I found Shanghai Mong http://www.yelp.com/bi... a few months later.

** This is also not fact.  I only wish.  Thus it is fact in the sense that I wish it.  It is factual-wish.

Noodles...you gotta get the noodles. You'll notice that almost every table has a bowl of jajang-myeon and/or a bowl of seafood noodle. And it's BIG...big enough for two people. We shared a large bowl of hot seafood noodle, which was amazing. The noodles were really chewy, and the soup, which was alarmingly red in color, was not as hot as it looked. Forget the meat dishes; our mangolian beef was left half untouched.

Btw, it's interesting that this place is half Chinese, half Korean. Sorry to sound ignorant, but I was never familiar with this concept!

There aren't many options for Korean-Chinese in Manhattan, but Hyo Dong Gak is solid in the Jja jang Myun and Gan Poong gi department.  The restaurant is located on 35th st, so thankfully it has less foot traffic and much less attitude than the average 32nd st. K-town restaurant.  With ample tables and the quick turn-around, the wait is not usually too long, even on a saturday night.  The waitstaff is courteous and dependable, dishes are family-style, and the decor (wooden tables, simple lighting, toothpicks at the counter, etc.) is like any and every korean restaurant you have ever and will ever be.  But what makes this place stand out is the delicious korean-chinese food, quick service, and very reasonable prices.

I've heard there are better Korean-Chinese restaurants in Flushing and Fort Lee, but until I make it out there this will have to be my Peking Gourmet, Garden Grove substitute. In short, Hyo Dong Gak offers tasty Korean-chinese dishes, prompt and friendly service, and prices that won't cut your night short after a good dinner.

And for those who haven't yet tried Korean-Chinese before, I recommend the Jja jang myun (noodles in black bean sauce) and Gan Poong Seh Oo (Fried shrimp in Spicy garlic sauce). The two dishes are tasty and can fill up two people, but be careful when eating the jja jang myun sauce, especially if you're wearing white!  That sauce has a tendency to fly!

The best jjajangmyun (noodles with black bean sauce) and jjampong (noodles in spicy seafood soup) place in the city, period.  I have been eating jjajangmyun and jjampong in the city since the mid 80s and this is the best place I have been to.  Authentic korean-chinese place that is clean and friendly.  I don't know how their other "chinese cuisines" fare, and I don't care, since I go here for the noodles.  Their noodles are fresh and chewy as they should be.  Their black bean sauce is delicious, and their jjampong soup is excellent and loaded with seafood.

Every time I go here, I can't make up my mind as to which one of the two noodle dishes I'm going to eat...a perpetual dilemma.  I usually end up tasting both by forcing my wife to eat something different.

I just don't' have enough words to describe how much I enjoy this place.  You should just go and try for yourself.  Seriously, stop reading and GO!

I watch a lot of Korean dramas and was always curious about 'Jjajangmyeon'  which is noodle with thick black bean gravy either with meat or seafood that they are always eating. After sniffing around Yelp, I found Hyo Dong Gak which had good reviews for that particular dish so off I went today with my friend, Catie L.

I had jjajangmyeon - Noodles with Seafood Brown Sauce - $7.95 while Catie ordered the Noodles with Chicken & Seafood soup - $6.95, we shared a Fried Dumpling (8 pieces) - $5.95. The portions were big and as you can see the pricing very reasonable.

They have 2 different kind of menu, one consists of the regular Chinese-American dishes and the other will have Korean dishes, you would have to ask them for that. I was quite disappointed that they didn't give us banchan which are the appetizers other Korean restaurants usually serves. Half way through our meal, I then realized that other patrons had some small dishes of kimchi and takuan (yellow pickles) so I asked the waited, 'Do you have appetizers?', he said 'Yea' and came back with an empty bowl with a pair of chopsticks ... *faintz* ... he probably didn't understand what I said so Catie asked him if they have kimchi, he came back with small dishes of kimchi and takuan (yellow pickles) + onion, does it mean if we didn't ask, we don't get? ... sigh. Service wise was so-so, nothing to rave about.

The jjajangmyeon was ok, it looked good but had not much taste so I added a lot of hot pepper powder for the added spiciness which made it tastier. Catie wrote in her Yelp review that her noodle soup was good. The fried dumplings were however disappointing, even though the dish presentation was very nice, the meat filling had no taste at all, thank goodness for the sauce. At least now I know how jjajangmyeon tastes like ... heh heh.

Not out of this world, but it hits the spot if you are craving a hefty bowl of jja jjang myun. Moreover, I like the no frills yet attentive attitude. No rush for you to order, no patronizing for ordering to little, and they readily bring out another bowl and scissors to share the noodle dish.

This place seemed so much more Chinese than Korean. But, really really good. The lobster with ginger and scallion sauce and cold sesame noodles were both delicious! And affordable. And, we must have missed the dinner rush, bc the place wasn't over-crowded. Really tasty.

PS: Everybody else in the restaurant ordered that spicy seafood soup.

Been here 3 times and I am very seldom to give high praise, but this has to be one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. The best jja jang myun I've had anywhere. I also like how the location is on an almost forgotten street blocks away from KTown. I'm eager to try more of the menu. Definitely a place that I will frequent at least every other week.

I went there for lunch yesterday. **They don't serve lunch menu on Saturday.**
I ordered the spicy seafood noodles soup as everyone said it's really good on Yelp. I personally think it was okay. No as good as most of the people described it. But it's a really really big bowl. I mean two people can share that big soup.
My bf order the (fired beef with garlic and pepper sauce). It was surprising good.  The sauce has excellent favorite. I think it was $13 dollars. But for some reason When they bring the beef they don't come with any rice. Since we order that big bowl of soup, we don't want to over eat ourselves. But I think they should have serve with rice since the dish has such good heavy favorite.
If I get chance to go back to NYC; I sure will go back there once again.
BTW this place is 3 blocks north of the Korean strips. So from Macy, you need to head 1 block north and toward east director.

This place serves great spicy seafood noodle soup! I ordered the (least spicy) Spicy Seafood noodle soup and it came pretty spicy but not as spicy as my friends' Extra spicy extra seafood noodle soup. The noodles with special brown sauce (black bean?) was tasty too. I was looking forward to seeing a menu with korean names but instead we had the english translation of the menu which made it easier to order. Service was good - We kept on changing our party number from 4 to 6 but the wait staff accommodated us without any problem. The whole place was packed from the time we went 6 pm until we left 8 pm.

My korean roomies brought me here for my birthday dinner - Hyo Dong Gak is famed from their jajangmyun and tangsuyuk - which is what we had. I hadn't had Korean-Chinese food in a while, the last place I went to Shanghai Mong, which was pretty good as well.

The prices are reasonable. The wait staff are nice and service is quick. I never realised there was Chinese-Korean cuisine - but alot of the food is very similar to its Chinese counterparts. I'm bringing my boy to try it out next time :)

Excellent food.

This is my favorite place for korean style chinese food in Manhattan.

The place is pretty run down, but the food is amazing.

Remember to ask for the korean menu - otherwise they might just give you the regular menu.

The kkam poong gi is perfectly done - deep fried shrimp tossed in this sticky and slightly sweet red pepper sauce.

The jjam ppong is really good too.

The servers are pretty friendly too.

Hidden under the never ending Manhattan construction scaffolding my SO and I stumbled on this place one super late night in Manhattan.  STARVING and just wanting something good tasty and recognizable we jumped on this place due to it's Double Menu Concept (they've got both chinese & korean menus) and unmanhattanlike (sp?) prices!!!  3 people w/ drinks for $30.00 beat that!!

Their food is so tasty just great ingredients, fresh sauces and amazing flavors on things that are so familiar like broccoli in garlic sauce or beef lomein . . .  Vegetarians fear not!!! You and your SO will be able to dine together in harmony once more!!!

The wait staff is unpredictable at best -- some nights spot on, some nights not so much.

But I have gone many times with many different groups of folks and not once have we had any food issues -- the food is always sublime and you've still got $$$ in the pocket!!!

Now if I could just figure out how to pronounce the name of the restaurant. . .

Thank God i found a place that has good Jampong. Since there is zero Pho in Manhattan that is worthwhile I will now be giving my undivided soup noodle attention to Jampong.
I went with a couple of non-Korean co-workers for lunch today and we got the gringo service. Rather than getting kimchi and damooji we got fried wonton skins and sweet and sour sauce to dip in. My co-workers trusted me to order so i open the menu to find only the regular Chinese food items. So they gave us the gringo menu too.
So, when the server came i ordered 3 jampong and gam pong gui. Once they understood what we were there for they brought out the kimchi n stuff.
The gam pong gui was good and tasty. Garlicky and a little spicey and a little sweet.
The Jampong looked like was gonna really burn on the way out, but once i tasted it I knew my butt was safe. It has a real deep rich redness to it. The flavor is rich with red pepper and seafood. The only thing i really missed was the pork and ginger in the broth. The stuff was really good tho.
The noodles were not super thick, but they were good and chewy and didn't break apart or get mushy.
This place just made my move to NY that much easier. I thought i was going to be without a close by soup noodle place. Now I have one a block away from work.
Thanks Hyo Dong Gak!!!

Came here the next morning after a night of drinking at Maru. Food was okay. The thing worth mentioning was how friendly the staff was. I was trying inconspicuously to find a plug to recharge my phone, and the Korean waiter was nice enough show me a few. But when they didn't work, he offered to take my phone the front counter to recharge. At the end of the meal he brought it back to me. So because of that I'd say the service was great.

Average Korean-Chinese restaurant.  They got all the basics, including jjajangmyun, jjamppong, tangsuyuk, etc.  Food is okay, but like most Korean places on K-block, it's nothing spectacular. Having said that, if you live in Manhattan, there isn't much choice when that jjanjangmyun craving hits (this place is only 1 of 2 places in the city, I believe).

Stick to the basics here.

-Gan jjajang (one where the sauce comes separate) is pretty decent (although a bit lighter in flavor than I like it).
-Tangsuyuk is crispy and sweet like it's supposed to be.
-Jjampong is a little subpar (I thought the broth was a little flavorless).
-Yaki mandu has the right thick skin and meat combination that it's supposed to have.

I was there today with friend Gen.  I got the seafood noodle soup.  It was very good and such a big bowl, I had to take some home.  I also tried the fried dumplings.  I am glad they had some sauce because the dumplings didn't have much flavor.
I like the kim chi, it was tasty, and spicy.  The pickled radish was also sort of sweet and sour at the same time.  I would give it five stars but for the dumplings.  So go and enjoy.

Fave place to go for jjajangmyun (noodles w/black bean sauce) in the city. Jjambbong (noodles in spicy seafood soup) and tangsuyuk (sweet&sour pork) are good too. Places in Pal Park and Queens are better though.

I was craving noodles in brown sauce (jajangmyun) so I took some coworkers here to experience it. I chose this place after reading positive yelp reviews. I would not chose this place walking by if I didn't know about it.
We definitely got the white people treatment so that subtracts a star. We were given a different menu and had to request the other menu that had the noodles we wanted on it. Also they didn't give us kimchee and picked turnip until I asked for it, though every other table received it after being seated.
This barely dampened our lunch experience. We had no problem seating our 7 person group at lunch time. The large portions of savory noodles were loved by everyone who took my advice and ordered it. Note that the menu lists the dish as noodle with brown sauce or special noodle with brown sauce which is a dollar more. Apparently the special version is more fresh so we went with that one.   Perfect, cheap, satisfying, crowd pleasing meal.
