27 reviews for Hyatt West Hollywood
I stayed here this past thursday to saturday for a business vacation and might I say this places was fantastic. Located on Sunset Blvd, my room on the tenth floor overlooked West Hollywood. There was a cool Rock and Republic billboard to my right, the Beverly Center in the distance, Golden Triangle, Santa Monica, Melrose, you name it I could see it.
The look and feel to the hotel was welcoming and very clean. Upon arrival on thursday I also saw ex boxing champ Mike Tyson.
The staff is very attentive to your needs and when I needed a 2nd bedroom card, they gladly helped me out with that.(my roommate went out for a night, got drunk, and i needed to get into our room)
At the very top is the Panorama room where you can have parties. It also leads to the top of the roof where they have a pool and a great view of Los Angeles. Room service was also on par as our mini bar was always stocked and beds fluffed!
I would highly reccommend this place to anyone else, however the only crappy thing is the driveway because it's super small!
I'm saddened by all the bad reviews. And since this is becoming a $500-a-night "upscale Hyatt" soon (who knew such things even existed?) I have to add my review of the real Hyatt on Sunset I remember before it becomes history.
This hotel is worth five stars because it is a pillar of rock and roll history. Do you youngsters have any idea how many ideas for songs were born in these very dingy halls? I personally have stayed here along with everyone from the Rolling Stones to the Fu-Schnickens to Mark Wahlberg in his Entourage days. All of those guys (and some others) invited us over to party with them and talk about music. Why? Because it was the Riot Hyatt and that's what you did. Before that, when it was truly great, it was home away from home to the Doors (and Miss Pamela!), Led Zeppelin, the Who, and John Lennon. Keith Richards dropped a TV out the window, Jim Morrison had numerous incidents, Little Richard moved in permanently, and the hotel was the inspiration for some of the events in Almost Famous.
What can you say about a place like this? No, it's not a luxury hotel, but it is (or used to be) a fun little quirky place with a lot of history. If you were a civilian staying there, you were as likely as not to be invited in to have a drink and a smoke and a deep conversation at a party with some of these guys. Of course it's a little trashed. Some serious stuff went down here. But the rooms were clean and functional, the room service was decent, the staff was tolerant and the Pink Dot was nearby for all your late night party needs. Prices were reasonable and parties were loud.
I for one am very sad to see the Riot Hyatt go. And to those of you who bitched about the wallpaper and the towel service without regard to the history in these walls? I hold you personally responsible. If there is any justice in the world, you will someday birth children who will force you to listen to some hellish futuristic version of the Jonas Brothers for the next eighteen years.
Farewell, Riot Hyatt. Those of us old enough to remember your greatness will miss you.

I got married on the roof of this hotel. Even with the puke-stained carpet and the constant staff turnover, I have to give it three stars because it's a special place for me.
Because I held both my wedding ceremony and reception at this hotel I have had a LOT of interaction with the staff and have visited the hotel many times. To start, this Hyatt has recently undergone a huge makeover and is now called Andaz. I'll be staying there in a few months and will update my review then. For now, I'm referring to the Hyatt pre-makeover.
We were told when we booked our wedding that the construction would be completed and our guests would be staying in remodeled rooms. Instead the hotel was covered in scaffolding and I was pretty embarrassed to have my family and friends staying in the hotel's very shabby rooms. In the year plus that I was in touch with the Hyatt to plan the wedding there must have been a dozen different managers. Every time I got to know one of the managers, they either left or were fired. Here's hoping that the Andaz/Hyatt can keep a consistent and well-trained staff.
The new rooms look pretty snazzy. The old rooms were pretty nasty. The new restaurant looks bright and airy. The old restaurant was very dark but had a cool Asian vibe.
The rooftop pool is nothing amazing but the view is incredible. Parking is expensive but not out of line with what everyone else on the Sunset Strip charges. We saw Mike Tyson checking in and Kiefer Sutherland walking down the street.
Look forward to updating the review (and hopefully the star rating) after my stay at the Andaz.
This place was DISGUSTING. I have never had a bad experience with a Hyatt before. And according to some travel websites, this Hyatt is supposedly 3.5/4 stars. The carpet was so dirty and stained I kept my shoes on the entire time I was in the hotel room. The bathroom was so disgusting. I honestly don't know if it was unclean, or just could never ever look clean no matter what. Also, there was water damage in the rooms up the wall paper, so the walls had these bulges where the wallpaper was bubbling and there was no free internet. There was a fishtank in my room (I had been upgraded to some sort of suite), and I was seriously SHOCKED when I did not find dead fish floating around in the tank. I thought the hotel staff may have stuck me in this craphole room because I booked on hotwire, but after reading other reviews, it seems the whole hotel just needs to be demolished.
On a side note, my room overlooked the Saddle Ranch chop house next door, so it was interesting people watching the seriously drunk getting into their cars and driving away at 2am...

I know at one point there was a reason for this particular Hyatt to be called "The Riot", but just because we were a part of a touring entourage, does not mean we would be hanging each other off the balconies by our ankles.
Three of us roadies were sat on said balcony having a quiet cigarette when a loud bang came at the door. Security had come up and threatened to call the police on us if we didn't stop throwing paper airplanes off the balcony. 1. We weren't. 2. What was the big deal if we were? At least it wasn't the telly (which was bolted to the table it was on, funny enough).

I went here booked by an agency for business...
I read some reviews prior to going. I could not change where I was at (since it was not my dime).
The driveway is very small and so is the lobby.
My room was so-so. The bed was comfy. My only problem was the bathroom.
The bathroom was small (don't care much about that) BUT the tub had chips and leftover hair in the soap holder. On my bed the welcome note was used by previous guest (guests).
I did not eat at the restaurant at the hotel, everything was expensive.
A place I recommend is the Saddleback Ranch.. It's loud and the have a bull to ride "I did not". If you go and have a drink, make sure you ask them not to fill up with ice as you will get 2 sips. The ribs are good here !!!!!!
If you take a tour to see celebs homes, go on Starline tours. They show you more houses than the tour I went on with another company. Hollywood Wax Museum was ok the Wax Museum in NY is better and looks more realistic.
Despite a not-so-perfect stay here last night, I'm going to be generous with my review of the Riot Hyatt.
One thing to note about this hotel if you are staying here in 2008: THE HOTEL IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION AND THEY START AT 8AM! If this might bother you, call ahead and check on the status of construction!
Luckily for us, it was a holiday today (Thank you, Dr MLK for everything you have done for our country!) so we were not inconvenienced by too much construction noise. Be aware that a lot of their facilities are not open due to construction (such as the pool and occasionally valet on the main level). Did not check out the fitness room, the Restaurant, nor did I check out the Internet connection (supposed to be a T-Mobile hotspot, but didn't see if this was true or not).
That said, I am giving this hotel 4 stars on its POTENTIAL, based on the newly renovated room we stayed in. While the new Riot Hyatt no longer has balconies and the rooms have glass windows you cannot open (no more throwing TVs off the balcony, or having people dangling on the outside), they basically put a new "lounge" area where the balconies used to be. There is a nice little leather chaise and a nice big comfy chair + ottoman in this sitting area which overlooks great views of Sunset + the city. This sitting area also has a small TV (an LCD on a swivel) so you can have a view of the city + watch TV, if you must. This area can be blocked off from the other part of the hotel room with a curtain, so it's like an enclosed balcony. I would say this is the nicest part of the room.
The furnishings and decor in the room are extremely modern and minimalist. Nice big flat screen TV, decent desk/work area. The bathroom is small, but nice. Very comfortable bed and lots of pillows. There is no tub and there is no full shower door, which is weird and a little messy if you splash around a lot, like I do. There was a scale in the bathroom which seems totally unnecessary, but that's just me. Not a lot of counter space and the sink was nice but the water kind of sprayed everywhere. Again, me and the messiness.
Front desk extremely nice and helpful; our room was too hot so they brought us a fan. Of course, a major plus of this hotel: location, location, location! Across the street from the HOB, next door to Saddle Ranch, close to the Whisky. This is a perfect place for a holiday in LA, even if you live in LA.
Overall, the newly furbished room was extremely clean and although it felt unfinished, it really wasn't lacking anything except for a mini bar and a tub to soak in. I'd stay there again... after the construction is completed.

Absolutely disgusting. The rooms were nasty as hell with everything from dirt to mysterious spots around the room. The lobby, however, was in pristine condition! Parking was a pain in the butt and ridiculously expensive, why is it not included in the price of the room?!
Speaking of the price... how can they possibly get away with charging what they do for the crappy rooms they offer? Just because they're on Sunset Blvd...
There are plenty of good places to eat around (Yes, avoid the in-house restaurant) and lots of good nightlife a short walk from this hellhole.

If I could rate this place a zero...I would. I will not stay here again. Here are just a few of the reasons:
1) Staff is very unfriendly and not helpful. When trying to get an explanation as to why the heat in the room wasn't working, the staff front desk tool (his name is Gabe Merino) asked me why I had that tone of voice. First off, where do you get off asking me that? Second, it's because I was freezing at 2am in my hotel room. The tool then told me that it's tied to one furnace...so if it's cold outside, the entire hotel will heat up. If it's hot outside, the entire hotel will experience AC. There is no micro-climate in your hotel room...wtf? Well, then why have a thermostat in the room? So very strange and practically dumb.
1a) Another staff story is the security there. Our room was approached because we had a noise complaint around midnight for being too loud and then they tell us this story about only 4 guests per room after a certain time. Fine, that's cool...but don't be smart about it. These guys are a bunch of losers. We are all paying patrons and the security there talk back to you as if you were some jerk off the street. Aren't you supposed to be treated with respect if you are staying there?
2) The door for every hotel room SLAMS, so if people around you are leaving the room at 2,3,4,5am in the morning, you can hear EVERY door slam and wake you up. This happened multiple times. I understand partying and being on the sunset strip...I have no problem with partying in the rooms...it's once you leave the room that everyone has to hear that.
3) The rooms suck and is nothing special. A motel 6 has just about the same atmosphere.
4) They check you out of your hotel room before checkout time if housekeeping gets there. Say we pack up our stuff and leave to go to breakfast (thinking we were going to check out after breakfast). You get back to your room (well before checkout time at noon) with your stuff not there and NEW PEOPLE INSIDE THE ROOM?!?!?? Can you believe that? They say it's hotel policy that if housekeeping gets to your room before checkout time, they will check you out automatically. Ok, that just is stupid.
Done with place and never coming back. I guess the 1 star can be fore their roof deck pool overlooking LA. That's about it. I hope this hotel goes bankrupt.

Entering my room, I am olfactorily consumed. The odor is familiar and not welcome to my nostrils. What could this strange smell be?
Ah yes, I recognize this smell... it's the smell of CUM.
I don't even want to know if the sheets have been starched.
WeHo, you're disgusting.

Great location, but the rooms are a bit cramped... well maybe that because we squeezed 9 ppl into 2 rooms 1 night, and then 11 people the next night. =D
Room service shuts down at midnight.

Am being very generous with the amount of stars I'm giving on this property. All of the ratings and reviews that I've read on this hotel from various websites were all correct. There was a "foreign" stain on the floor of my room and it had a crappy view of the parking lot.
The only thing that saved this place from getting two stars was the fact that I didn't spend a whole lot of time there and that my time was spent having a great time outside of your hotel.
If you want to be in the middle of the Sunset Strip and would enjoy being transported back to 1986, this is your place. I'm not sure if the decor was throw-back on purpose or just out of date, but once you get past the lobby it's a lot of black, white, and gray graphic prints and a bit headache inducing (even if you're perfectly sober).
If you're high up enough (we were on the ninth floor) with a back view, you can kind of ignore the parking structure and enjoy the view of the hills. But a couple fighting by their car did wake my fiance up one night.
The bed was hard and the bed linens were of the scratchy motel variety.
The rooftop pool was okay. The fitness center was actually pretty nice for a hotel. Each cardio machine had a tiny TV and they hotel provided headphones, so you could watch a limited number of channels.
They charged for Internet, which sucks for sure.
The hotel bar was okay. Over-priced, not-so-fab wine (I forget what a cocktail town LA is) in a very red and black cave-like spot that reminded me a bit of a bordello (think red leather bar). But Peter, the bartender was very nice.

Gets a bad rap.. BUT..
I stayed here every time I'd travel to LA because it's located right in the heart of Sunset, close to my gym, and because my company had a discount there. Saddle Ranch and Starbucks are right next door and House of Blues is across the street.
The rooms are not anything to write home about, but if you request a room that faces the city and not the mountain you'll have a cool view. Although they're remodeling now and there's no longer balcony access which cuts down on that perk.
They make you pay for wi-fi but I found a lot of free signals to easily jump onto.

I stayed here a year ago...it's a pretty good location if you are a tourist and having a view of Sunset is cool. Plenty of places to eat within walking distance, although it seemed to be a little sketchy to walk around at night even with a group of girls (never by yourself for females).
The rooms were a pretty good size but nothing special. The best thing about this hotel was the cool staff and the roof top pool that overlooks LA and the hills :-)

After reading alot of reviews for the hotel I was a little nervous in staying here, I though I was going to be bedding down in a dump. But I was completely wrong, we got what appeared to be a completely new room overlooking Sunset Blvd. Everything was clean and polished - no weird smells or stains.
The best location - all the top nightlife is within walking distance or a quick taxi ride away. Small pool on roof and strange, dark 70's bar downstairs. I only paid $110 a night on http://Priceline.com so it was a total steal for me.
Only downside - $18 hotel parking (with unlimited in/out privileges) and no free wi-fi which should be a gimme today.
If you can get it cheap; take it. If not I still had a gread experience and mybe you will too.
Stayed last night in a renovated room -- I give it 3.5 stars.
Why it is 3.5 stars:
-- The BEST front desk man (Tim) I have come across in 10 years (in fact, all staff was nice),
-- Very enjoyable restaurant downstairs,
-- Renovated minimalist room was clean and easy to work in.
-- Also any hotel with an alarm clock/stereo system that I can hook my iPOD into gets an automatic extra star.
-- Location = GREAT if you are heading into the City to party.
Why it is NOT 4 to 5 stars:
-- No minibar,
-- no free WiFi
-- Small bathroom with small vanity and no full bathtub (in fact the fixed shower door is something I expect in Europe, but not in the US).
If you are staying at this hotel, get a renovated room, bring your own snacks and ENJOY!
Location Location Location
You're on the Strip! And if you head up to the pool on the roof you've got a view of Hollywood that can hardly be beat. You're right next door to the comedy store. Just think you could see Pauly Shore. Eh, okay one star strike for that.
It is a bit run down and that kills another star. However, the staff is extremely attentive and friendly. The concierge will go out of his way for you. I've suffered nary a forgotten wakeup call whilst staying here. I can hike west to hit all the nifty restaurants and stores. It's really quite the nifty spot.
I would definitely return here if only to check out the original Comedy Store . I don't remember quite what the rate was but I remember thinking it wasn't too bad. When I'm in a mood to be glamorous I'll stay at The Standard.
My usual haunt, The Standard, was sold out so I settled for this down the street. Oops. While the front desk was kind enough to upgrade me to a "room with a view" since all they had were double doubles, it's a catch-22. As opposed to staring a the bleak concrete parking structure, I was forced to deal with an illuminated billboard flashing like a strobe day and night. Luckily, I hardly spend any time in my room but, for the rate, disappointing nonetheless. PLUS they charge for internet access (via a Tmobile Hot Spot)!

I will start with Yelp and continue with every other website imaginable to give the absolute WORST review possible on this hotel. THIS HOTEL, BY FAR, IS THE WORST HOTEL IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please, I beg you, DO NOT STAY AT THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!!! You will regret it!
It is the biggest shithole in the world. The rooms are disgusting, the people that work there are miserable, the service in the pool area and the Riot House is from hell and the whole hotel is in ruins. There was no balcony in the room and rubble laying everywhere!!!!
I can't even get into all the details, but please trust me on this, do not EVER go to this hotel. Make sure the francshisee goes out of business. It is disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go across the street to the Standard - PLEASE!!!!

Ah, the "Riot Hyatt." Supposedly back in the era of Poison flyering all over town and indiscreet activities under the table at the Rainbow, this was the place the musicians stayed (and destroyed). If you're into the whole Sunset scene, the location is great. Other than that, the rooms are jacknasty, despite the remodelling downstairs. I ended up having to stay here several weeks a while back, and I daresay that the room was almost grimy! and who knows what growths linger from back in the day. You're better off staying elsewhere on Sunset, or further down in one of the smaller places in WeHo.

Wonderful location but pretty boring rooms. The heater didn't even work. At least they brought us extra blankets when we complained how cold it was. So glad I reserved on priceline because I would never pay $215 a night for a room here. Also note that parking is $18 and Internet is an extra $10.

Hyatt looks a bit schmuck-ish on Sunset Strip w/ a pretty hot neighbor like Mondrian. I stayed here once b/c there were no more rooms left across the street. It was, um...NOT Mondrian.

This is by far the shittiest Hyatt I've ever stayed at, which is ironic given their current focus on "style" according to a recent article in Fast Company that I read. Although the lobby area is very boutique hotel-like, the rooms themselves left much to be desired. Stepping off the elevator, I felt like I was walking into a scene in Miami Vice circa 1985. The room wasn't much better - from the skimpy towels to the flimsy sheets, I felt like I was staying at a Motel 6 rather than a Hyatt. Also, I know this is on the Strip, but I was pretty annoyed to wake up at 3am to the lovely sound of some couple arguing like a bunch of 12 year olds (they must have met on Myspace). I'm seriously considering calling Hyatt to complain about this place, and will certainly be more hesitant in the future before staying at another hotel in the Hyatt chain. For once, I wish I had listened to TripAdvisor!

This place is crazy...We had checked in here 2 nights during our honeymoon. We checked out of the Bel Age, cuz it was filthy and came here instead. Still better than the Bel Age, cuz it was at least clean. But this hotel is for party animals. I knew this when coming in, but I thought I could catch a break since it was mid-week. Our mattress was so hard I had such a bad nights sleep. I did love the balcony overlooking Sunset...that was a plus. Also, the staff was so nice, they asked us if it was an occasion while we were staying here and we told them it was our honeymoon and chocolate covered strawberries and champagne were quickly sent up to the room. Sadly, we checked-out after 1 night cuz it was just too noisy for us. We decided to go to Loews in Santa Monica instead.
Can I rate this place a zero?
A friend and I decided to go down to L.A. for a few days, and I was really excited about the West Hollywood Hyatt. The pics on the website looked great, and Hyatts are usually on the classier side.
After I booked my room through a travel website, I stumbled upon this Yelp review page and started to get worried. I really lowered my expectations in hopes that it would make the room seem better, but apparently I didn't lower them enough.
The desk was all scuffed up around the edges, the carpets were faded and stained, the "view" of the sunset strip was blocked by the construction while they renovate. No good, especially for the price.
Luckily I was able to check in a little early, and I immediately got online to find a new place to stay the following nights. I was able to cancel the rest of my reservations at The Hyatt and book a room at The Chamberlain. A little pricier, but well worth it!!!

What is more LA than sitting next to the rooftop pool overlooking the Hollywood Hills? That is what was going through my mind when I was staying at the Hyatt in West Hollywood but all my expectations fell very short. The staff was rude, they gave me a room with 2 double beds instead of one king bed, called and left a message about a towel that was left on the balcony for two hours, and then (and this is the WORST thing), they forgot to give me a wake up call after I had scheduled 2 calls the night before and called as I was running, late, out of my room hoping that I wouldn't miss my flight in and hour and a half. Thanks but no thanks, pass on the "Riot House" and check out the Standard across the street. (Worst stay at a Hyatt, EVER.)
