    Jacksonville, FL

    5.0 star rating

This review receives 5 stars for my last-minute booking because of the following:
    1. Great price that's lower than any mentioned in other reviews
    2. Level of service and efficiency just may eclipse that of my regular Orlando favorite
    3. The bellman/boy bringing a bottle of champagne when bell service was delayed because of an emergency (i.e., paramedics were called; therefore, a true emergency and not "I need to call my boyfriend" emergency)

Taking a note from Julie Andrews: Let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start.  When you read you begin with A-B-C, when you check in to the Hyatt Regency Tampa, you begin with valet, valet, valet.  Unlike my last stay at the Westin farther down Tampa, the valet immediately greeted me with a smile, explained the check-in procedures, provided me useful information about the area and summoned a bell man in a New York minute.  As I walked into the lobby, I saw my 2005 Corolla reach Mach 5 into the parking garage.  That's quick valet service.

Since I'm Asian and a tech geek, I opted for the self check-in kiosk which allowed me to check in in under 2 minutes.  I validated my identity, reservation and room preferences and the kiosk spit out 3 key cards.  Fantastic.

When I noticed my suitcase and bags were in the middle of the lobby, without prompting, the lovely lady at the front desk apologized for my consumer goods and belongings in the middle of the lobby and assured me the bell boy would indeed make it to my room.

The room was roomy, updated and clean.  There was a real iPhone dock that allowed me to charge my phone as I took photos like any Yelper would do.  I called Cab Plus to arrange a pickup to Ybor and explored the room.  I jumped on the bed, which rivals that of the Westin's Heavenly delight.  The layout and scale of the furniture made the moderately-sized room feel even larger than it was.  The complimentary toiletries even included toothpaste.  I am easily amused and just slightly less easily pleased.  Water pressure was great, though the water conserving toilet sounded industrial in that it sucked...a lot.  When I say suck, it practically drained the water in no more than 2 seconds.  Though loud in volume, it sure beats slow draining toilets.  And you thought toilet humor would be crude.

After 15 minutes, the bell service had not completed, so I called the front desk and inquired about my suitcase and products to make me pretty for a night out.  The attendant apologized and said she would take care of it with urgency.  Within one minute, the cute bell boy knocked on my door and profusely apologized for the delay and explained why there was a delay (see #3 above).  I thanked him and told him it beats having to deal with a shootout.

As I began to wash up and get ready, I heard another knock on the door with toothpaste foam all over my mouth.  Such a cute look to greet the same bell boy who came bearing a chilled bottle of champagne for the trouble.

When I returned from Ybor, the bed enveloped me like a mother does a newborn, the pillows provided ample comfort and support and the crisp sheets kept me warm.  I felt well rested to tackle the slight hangover.

I called the valet stand to request car service within 20-25 minutes.  In the meantime, I provided to the self-service checkout where another bellman touted its simplicity in checking out and even handled most of the process for me.  How great is that?

The only negative is that I waited 45 minutes for my car, but only because of a miscommunication with the valet phone answerer and the valet staff.  To their credit, tons of fit soccer players were checking out at the same time so I can understand how this would have happened.  I was patient and amused while watching the valets sprint to the garage to retrieve the cars.  When I say sprint, there's no hyperbole.  I'd like to see them go head to head against some NFL players because they were that quick.  One of the valets stopped and said, "You've been waiting long.  Did you request your car?"  I told him I did and he replied, "No, no.  You should't have waited this long"  I gave him my ticket and, in turn, he gave me his bottle of water while he sorted out the problem.  Within 2 minutes, my car was ready for me and the apologies were plentiful.

So, the takeaways from this review:
    1. Waiting until the last minute can pay off
    2. The urban property is run by a GM who understands guests have many choices
    3. The guest is the focus in creating comfort and an enjoyable stay

Thanks to the awesome bundle package offered by Hotwire, I scored an $90 room at this incredibly comfortable business hotel. Nestled smack in the middle of downtown, the Hyatt Regency is within perfect distance from all the primary points of interest in Tampa.

But what really put this hotel over the top for me? There's an electronic kiosk where you can speedily check yourself in and out of the hotel; overnight valet for your vehicle is a reasonable $18; there's a travel-sized tube of Aquafresh toothpaste waiting for your in your bathroom; a plush and heavenly bed; an iHome alarm clock where you can listen to your own iPod tunes; and a complimentary yoga experience via your On-Demand TV.

It's certainly no boutique hotel with flashy, loungey amenities (like the W), but for what it is, this hotel is top notch.

Having stayed here for nearly a week, I was able to really get to know the place. Here are the pros and cons:

Let me start with the pros:
The staff was friendly and everyone seemed genuinely happy that I was there and appreciative of my business. The room was clean, bathroom was clean and bedding was clean. There was even an extra fresh set of sheets and duvet cover, still in the plastic cleaning wrapper, in my closet. I never felt like the room was dirty or unsanitary. The fitness center was acceptable. They have three, very nice treadmills with USB connectivity, three elliptical machines and three bikes. The center was clean with towels, water and sanitary wipes all provided for guests.

Now let me cover the cons, and ultimately the reasons why I gave it just three stars.:
While the inside of the building has been updated, the "guts" of the place is still old. What I mean by this is that my room was just too loud. I could not hear voices or the TV of the adjacent rooms, but I could hear just about every toilet flushing at 4:30am, the water in the pipes was loud and the HVAC system was too loud. I could also never seem to get hot water. It fluctuated from warm to cold during each visit to the shower. This place was like putting lipstick on a pig. It was nicely decorated, but the structure needs serious work. My real pet peeve is that there is a Wi-Fi charge for EACH device you use. If you have a laptop and a smartphone, you pay twice. That is just gauging. Especially considering that most places now include Wi-Fi in the daily room rate.

Would I stay here again? If I did it would be only because the staff was so nice and made me feel appreciated and welcome. But honestly, I would call around first. Sorry staffers.

Having looked and looked for a decent place for our first cruise out of Tampa, we opted for this Hyatt. We are pleasantly surprised at the attentiveness and attention to detail this property exhibited. The valets were prompt and efficient. Check In was quick and easy. Room 837 was a decent sized room, except for the bathroom. Don't know what it is with bathrooms in downtown hotels. The bathroom was slightly on the small size but nothing to complain about. Staff were pleasant and accommodating. I would definetly book here again for our next cruise out of Tampa. We normally cruise out of Miami or Fort Lauderdale.

The one star is for the fact that the room was clean. TV was fuzzy, filled out a breakfast card so that I could have breakfast there in the morning. Room service decided they didn't want to be bothered, and slid the card under the door. The staff apologized and comped us breakfast at the buffet, which if you have a choice between the buffet and a brick go with the brick. Mainly cause you won't be able to tell the difference between the brick and the french toast. good looking facility though for business types and convention spaces looked very nice. The second star is for the front desk staff and our waitress who were nice.

the Hyatt is a great business class hotel located in downtown Tampa. I was on the Pool floor so was able to leverage the pool and hot tub easily. There is a Starbucks on site and the beds are heavenly to sleep on. It's close by to Ybor city where all the nightlife is located and they have gym with iced cold towels and decent equipment for a nice workout before a relaxing swim and hot tub soak.

No free Internet sucks big time. I parked for free on the street on Saturday after 8pm and the meter before that was $4 so no need for a parking garage.

This hotel has the nicest staff ever.  From the check-in counter to the bellmen, to the maids, to the bar, to the room service, everyone in this hotel.  They're fabulous and well worth coming here over a comparable hotel nearby.

The rooms are good, clean, roomy enough, everything you need in a hotel room for a conference.  The internet costs money which I always hate because I'm a 1099 contractor so my work won't pay for it.  (this is what wi-fi hub phones were invented for, I think)  There's a business center downstairs that you need a key to get into and the conference facilities are nice.  The pool is pretty cool but if you're here while the pool is going to be in heavy use you'll want to make sure to ask for a room that isn't on the pool side because the noise caries.  The workout facilities are small but fine.

I've written separate reviews for the hotel restaurant and for a nearby restaurant. There's food within walking distance but not much of it.  If you need food on a Sunday you'll have to go to Channelside.  Some of the other reviews mention a self park lot, I was unaware that it was there.  I've only ever parked in the parking garage that costs money to park in.

Let's start off with what I didn't care for: the tiny self-park lot at the end of the block, the fact that wi-fi isn't included and the limited amount of channels.

However, seeing as how I ended up at this hotel from Priceline for $45/night, I can't be too upset.  I was all prepared to stay in St. Petersburg on the beach, but I knew I wanted to go into Ybor and whether I went alone or with someone, I didn't want anyone driving drunk or spending too much on a cab so....I picked Downtown Tampa as I figured it'd leave me in a relatively safe area.  Well, when I found out where I was staying I added two more days, which still left me with nowhere to go for the last night.  After a horrible start I ended up purchasing the internet and eventually got around to bidding on Priceline.  It was tough, because I didn't want to deal with having to move hotels, but I also didn't want to pay the $109 because I didn't think it was worth THAT much.  I bid on Priceline again and whadyaknow....I got the Hyatt!

Considering it was a Priceline reservation, everyone has been VERY friendly.  Even with the $14/day lot, it's still cheaper than what I would have paid for the hotel on the beach.  Yes, I could be laying on the beach.....but this location has actually been perfect for nearly everything and it's been easy to get around.  I asked for a king size bed and a room higher up, got both of my requests and a view over-looking the pool with Channelside in the distance.

The bathroom is great!  Back in December my then boyfriend stayed at what's supposed to be a nice hotel in Downtown Chicago and while the bathroom was huge, the water pressure sucked and the push faucet was horrible and the step out of the tub was....well I nearly fell a few times.  The water pressure here is amazing!  The counter is HUGE, and I've taken advantage of the space.  There are ample towels and there's a full-length mirror right outside.  The bed is really comfy and the pillows are AMAAAAAAAAZING!  I sleep on a memory foam at home, along with some down pillows and a memory foam one.....and I've been able to get a good night's sleep every night.

Here's what really got me though.....I broke my phone one day after I arrived.  I had to use the room phone and not investigating until AFTER all of my calls, I find out my bill was QUITE high.  I mean, I knew I should have asked but I was too consumed with needing to talk to friends and family (especially because my mother was on a road trip heading home) that when I did look the girl immediately said "wow, I'm going to take care of half of this".  The damage isn't horrible, but the fact that she took off half of it before I even said anything really stood out.  EVERYONE has been pleasant, the cleaning staff didn't throw out anything and everything in sight (which happened at the other hotel mentioned above) and it's close to the 275 which has made venturing to other areas easy to get back to.

Hotel lobby was attractive, bar area was attractive.  Room was standard.  We asked for 2 doubles and ended up with 1 king, but it was a busy weekend with the Outback bowl, so we could not complain too much.  Rooms were standard.

The parking lot was a bit weird.  It was $14 for 24 hours, but slightly sketchy.  It wasn't too far from the hotel.

Staff was friendly when I asked them questions.

Big gift shop there.  They do have a shuttle.  Close to downtown activities.

From the perspective of using the hotel's facilities for a reception or party.

I came to a Christmas party here and was very impressed.  The food was delicious, yes.. somewhat 'hotel food'y but they did it well.  We had a reception with appetizers, mini beef wellingtons, jumbo shrimp, a variety of dips, veggies, crackers and cheese.  There were a multitude of bars set up, plus people walking around with trays of red and white wine, so no one was left thirsty.

Dinner was a buffet of beef, turkey and salmon and multitude of hot sides and cold salads.  The meat was just OK, nothing too special, though the salmon definitely smelled and tasted old.  The desserts... woooo BOY!  Yeah... flourless chocolate cake, strawberry shortcake, cheese cake, bon-bons galore.  All you could ever want.

The servers were great, the food was good, the decor of the hotel reception area was really old school but nice.  Overall, not a bad place at all to throw a shin-dig.

I was attending a conference and I shared a room with four other women. When my friend and I got there, I wanted to share a shower because we had a long plane ride from California. I walked into the bathroom, went to run the water in the tub and it was DIRTY! I thought that maybe running hot water would get rid of the black stuff on the tub, but it didn't work. We called housekeeping to come clean it. It took them a while to come (even though we mentioned over the phone that one of us was waiting to take a shower).

When we were checking out, it was awful. A lot of the people attending the conference was leaving Sunday morning. They didn't have the quick check-out service you can do in your room like other hotels. When we got down to the lobby around 6 am, there were about 10 people in front of us and only 1 person working. I don't understand how they only had one person working that morning when they should have known that almost everyone attending the conference was checking out Sunday morning. I think some people were late catching their flight.

The only positive thing to say, is that whenever we had to catch a cab to the convention center or to have dinner, the men working out front were great.

I was in town for a convention of over 300 people, and the Hyatt was our HQ for the weekend. Staff was super friendly, especially considering they probably had to answer the same questions hundreds of times in the span of a few minutes. We had an impromptu pool party on the rooftop pool and they were very accommodating - the staff basically let us do our thing, waited for everyone to leave, and then quickly & quietly cleaned up.

The rooms were very comfortable and the air conditioning was responsive to the thermostat. The cafe by the bar/restaurant serves Starbucks coffee and tea, ideal for breakfast or a late-night jolt. Staff was also very eager to take group pictures for us and to direct us to the nearest food acquisition locations. It was funny watching drunk people walk into the side entrance automatic sliding glass door after a night at Ybor City.. they keep that entrance closed past midnight for security reasons.

I only have three things to request when staying at a hotel. Those are:

    1) I should get a good nights sleep in a comfy bed.
    2) The water temperature and pressure is close enough to my liking
    3) The place must be spotless!!

This hotel hit all three of my requests. I stayed here the night before my wedding. Most brides wouldn't even be able to think about sleeping the night before their wedding. However, the bed was so comfortable I passed right out. I couldn't have felt any more refreshed than I did the morning of my wedding. The bathrooms are like all hotel bathrooms, relatively small but manageable. The water temperature is what really gives this a four star rating. I don't know how many hotels I stayed in where the water BARELY got up to luke warm temperature. I was able to get HOT HOT HOT water out and adjust it just to my liking. This shower's pressure was a little soft but so much water came out that I still felt I was able to get a good cleaning. They do not have conditioner so bring your own. Also be wary about the shampoo, be sure to check the labels. One of our bathrooms was only stocked with body wash. They have your standard coffee maker, but no tea (just a little disappointing, but nothing to cry over).

The staff here were beyond pleasant and helpful. They chatted away to you as they got their job done and I honestly felt that some of them could have been my friends for years. They were fantastic at helping us yell at a cab driver who was 20 minutes late picking me up and they were also so delicate with my wedding dress. They also let me leave my car out front in a no park zone, and assisted me in unloading all of my luggage.

I really enjoyed my stay here and though I don't usually need a hotel when going to Tampa, I'll make sure I stay at this one if I ever do.

OK stayed here for the photography conference I was presenting at and the hotel staff and everyone here were really pleasant.  They get one star off for not including WiFi/internet in the price of the rooms.

However, the rooms are clean, fairly spacious and beds are pretty comfy.

Pretty close to the convention center too - there were buses for us, but it's an easy three or four block walk and since the weather here is nice (70-plus degrees) it's a nice little walk...

Stayed here 2 nights last May and was very impressed with the place. Service was great the whole time. The rooms are very nice including beds well equipped with high thread count sheets and down comforter. Lots of cool pillows to enjoy. Flat screen TV in room.

Bar downstairs was good for night caps. Serve trail mix with your booze, which I always like.

Place was a little pricey, but worth it. One of my favorite hotels I have stayed at.

I have to agree with Gene X, I have to take one star off for not including WiFi/internet in the price of the rooms.  They use T mobile at $9.99 a day.

When I walked into the room I was greeted by the scent of burning aromatic candles.  I don't know if they came with the room or if my companion who got here the last night brought them with her.  The room was clean, spacious and bed was very comfy.

While they offer flat screens in the room, they don't offer any premium channels as part of their complimentary t.v.  The IPod docking alarm clock was a  delightful surprise.  The location was excellent and had buses, trolleys all within a few blocks.

I had room service the first night and the angus burger, fries and a pitcher of tea cost me $25.00.  You can rent a movie for the night at $12.99 and while I did it the first night, I am hoping to go and check out the town whenever we get a chance.

I went to Tampa for a work conference and stayed at the Tampa Hyatt.  The hotel was nice as you would expect for a hotel in this price range.  It was centrally located and had easy access to Channel-side and other area attractions.  The trolley stop was close but the streetcar was about a 4 block walk.

The pool area and workout room were nice, the only thing bad I could say is that the room was small.

Glad I enjoyed the room here because it was way too humid to go outside. Tried out the pool area for a while but the lightening was a bit of a deterrent. Also thought about trying out the spa because I was really stressed out from traveling too much, but it was too scummy to enter. They really should do something about that, oh and that shitty humid weather in the summertime!

Maybe I a just a simple minded Midwesterner, but the value of the stay was bested by a courtyard Marriott.  I think the hotel is suited to the more urban chic since there was not much in the way of a meeting area/lounge without having a waitress come up and ask us about a drink order every 15 minutes. There were some really nice touches like the workout room, but it was not enough to brush over the unwillingness to take me 7 blocks down the street with my bags after checking out with two courtesy vans parked outside. And no coffee or bagels in the morning- at least a coffee bar would have been nice. But then I am simple Midwesterner.

We had our high school prom here and it was a really nice hotel to have an event in. The dance floor was relatively big enough for the 400-500 of us in attendance. The tables were all very nicely space and the lighting of the place was like that of an elegant dinner. The place looked great from outside and was perfect to drive into with our hummer stretch limo and when you think that someone people have their proms at their high school cafeterias, we really were lucky. Some people rented out rooms upstairs and were happy with what they booked, but I personally didn't venture out of the main area we were given for our prom. Overall a nice venue to have an event.

So there were four of us sharing one room, and we requested a room with two beds like months ahead. Well, we get there, and they don't have any more rooms with two beds available. WTF? We ask for a cot- FOUR times, and finally they brought one after hours. We asked for blankets, it took them another hour. Maybe I'm just used to Vegas with all the friendly service and accommodations, but yikes, never staying at a Hyatt Regency again! Go Holiday Inn!!

This is a very nice hotel for business travel.  The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and the room was comfortable and stylish, even down to the desk chair.  Glass of champagne as I'm checking in?  Yes please!
