Ooh la la, I do enjoy staying at the Hyatt. Apparently they recently underwent a multi-million dollar improvement so they must be doing well. This hotel is on a golf course so the ambience is quite nice.

Our room faced the golf course & we enjoyed sitting on the patio overlooking the golf course...despite seeing people playing golf relatively close to our patio & hearing the whack of the golf balls (which is not something I'm accustomed to, since I don't play).

The room was spacious, clean & comfy. Had a nice king size bed.

Room service was pretty good considering that's what it was. Ordered chicken quesadillas & caesar salad, both which tasty.

Had a buffet brunch at the hotel restaurant Tosca & the selection was very broad -- eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausages, pastries, fresh fruit, & more.

Bathroom had nice fixtures, including a toilet seat that doesn't slam when closed due to a spring I suppose, making me want to buy one for my own home!

My gripes were:
1) the shower took a long time to heat up, so I ended up taking a pretty cold shower
2) later when I was brushing my teeth at the sink, the water was super hot & I was unable to cool it down...making me wonder if the water had heated up when I was showering!
3) there was something dried up & unidentifiable on the outside of one of the glasses in the bathroom, so I didn't even use it

Prices are still on the high side, despite about 20% occupancy during the weekdays -- $199/night. I also stayed at a nearby Best Western/DeAnza for about $130/night with my aunt's senior citizen discount & that room was seriously almost as nice (minus the golf course view).

First off I got this hotel by using priceline, so for the $90 I paid I was pretty happy but had I paid the full price (over $200) I would have been disappointed. The property is all spreadout into 2 story buildings, which was weird to me, BUT the rooms were nicely decorate and the bed was comfy (but tiny)... the hotel was renovated within the last few years so interior looks nice. The pool was warm but small. The lobby bar looked really nice but the sportsbar was pretty dead on a Saturday night and the drinks were outrageously priced.

There was an abundance of parking, which is included at no charge

What I didn't appreciate was being charged a $15 resort fee that no one told me about when I checked in and adding insult to injury, they taxed it. Also, not every building has an ice machine... that was kind of lame

I didn't use any of the other amentities such as the spa or fitness gym so I can't rate those.

It is only about a mile from Fishermans Wharf and another 1/2 mile to Cannery Row, so close to things but not close enough to walk

A quick statement that would sum up my opinion of this place: If I had to pay full price for these rooms instead of the Priceline rate that I got, I'd be hella pissed!

**LAYOUT - For one, I really don't like how the entire hotel is spread across a wide expanse of two-story buildings. This means that you're either fairly lucky and get placed near the lobby building, or you're plumb out of luck and have to take a decent walk. Not so great when the weather is cold. Not to mention the fantastic view of people you get walking RIGHT AT EYE LEVEL WITH YOUR WINDOW even when you're living on the second floor...

**SECURITY - What security? Because all of the hotel rooms are spaced out in 2-story buildings, there wasn't really any security for them. You could walk about as you pleased (kind of reminds me of a Motel 6 layout) and the entrances to the hallways were always open. Again, not a fan of this. Kind of reminded of the so called luxury hotels in Santa Cruz....

**HOTEL ROOM - Smaller than I expected. Pillows, while they felt good, did not smell nice. Small TV. And, as I mentioned, if you're unlucky enough to get placed on a second floor that's not really a 2nd floor, you don't get much privacy, either. As for the bathroom, it was clean but small. The sliding door in my room was also broken.

**CUSTOMER SERVICE - Ok, I will give them this one. The people were nothing but friendly and were pretty helpful. I also liked that they had self-service check in/out kiosks to minimize lines.

**FOOD - Ate at their cafe for breakfast. Expectedly overpriced, but very tasty. Plus, you get a ground level view of the golf course. Now if they had upper level seating, the view would have been fantastic!

In any case, if I had to stay around here again, I might try another hotel and see if my luck changes. And I definitely would not pay rack rate for these rooms.

Love the Hyatt clean/new feeling of this hotel. Love the well decorated bathrooms! (Except the shower was one of those Euro-esque ones that is open on the end so that no matter how careful you are, water splashes out on to the bathroom floor.. grrr)

The hotel is not walkable to anything, really (unless you really like walking, in which case, Fisherman's Wharf isn't THAT far..) but who comes to Monterey without a car?

I've stayed here a coupla times and the first time, we got upgraded to a very large room. And although it was one of the farthest buildings from the lobby, we didn't really need the lobby for anything, so that was fine. Plus they have a second pool/hot tub (albeit smaller) right near building 14 and 15.
The "building" set up does make it feel like a motel-- a REALLY nice motel.

The second time, we stayed in a double, which felt cramped in comparison. Still clean, still nice.

Played ping pong and in-the-pool basketball at the pool by the lobby. Fun!

Slightly out of my price range... but...

As you'd expect from a Hyatt,  there is fantastic customer service, clean rooms, beautiful decor, great food, etc...

For those who drink and love sports, but can't because you've got kids to take care of,  Knuckles is for you.  Unlike the rest of the Knuckles bars that I've been too, they allow kids until 11:00pm!   So if you're staying here, you can knock back a few beers, watch the game, and have keep an eye on your kid while they play video games or pool!

There were a couple of disappointments.  What I didn't expect was my room at a temperature of 78 degrees.   It as hot as hell and there is no A/C.  Oh yeah, no free internet or Wi-Fi either,

All in all it wasn't so bad since I only got the room for $80 a night.

Hotel itself was ok, the view was nice and the air was fresh and all, but the layout was a bit annoying because the entire hotel was spread out on the property and divided into about 15 two-story buildings.  You have to either walk from your building to the lobby, or drive there if you are too lazy to walk or the weather was too cold to walk.

The hotel's restaurant does offer very good food, ate there one morning and picked the breakfast buffet.  Unlimited supply of fresh orange juice and the food in general was yummy.  Plus, you get a nice view of the golf course and it did look very beautiful on a sunny Morning.  The breakfast buffet was about $25 per person, so definitely go for the made-to-order pancakes and waffles if you can, and get your money's worth!

I'm a big fan of Hyatt Resort locations and they seem to be nothing but 5 star.  You are always rest assured that the rooms are updated with all the modern necessities.  Beds were awesome, Flat Screen a plus and unique bathroom setup was good enough.  Internet is still being charged at Hyatt but that is at every one I've been too so far.

Now I did not like that they did not have A/C either but this seems to be the norm with Central Coast and up to the north hotels.  So I can't really knock them for that.  But the weather for whatever reason was getting warm and even the cool weather outside for some reason would not come into our room.  I'm all for natural air flow but at least design the room where outside air is easily filtered into the room.

It's the small touches where this hotel loses it's fifth star.  The building and halls looked worn out.  The parking lot looks drab and reminds me of an older motel parking lot.  Breakfast also was simply done but nothing spectacular.  For the price tag you would think there would be more unique variety.

All in all this place is located right on the golf course so I can't really ask for more.  I had a balcony view of the course from my room.  If you are a golfer it's really hard to be this close to the course and not play.  The hotel was nice and was fortunate enough to use my Hyatt points thus I think I was a bit more tolerant of the small touches.  If I had to pay though I think I would expect more with this hotel.

I stayed here this past Monday through Thursday.  I felt my room was above average and very clean.  The bed was super comfy and clean.

The amenities were great and the bathroom was beautiful.

I stayed in Bldg 2, which faces the freeway side but did not have an issue with the traffic noise. If you listen carefully at 10:00PM you can hear the sound of Taps playing at the Naval Postgraduate School at night.

Housekeeping showed up at 10:00 on the dot every morning.

Plan ahead and find the "Pre-pay in full" rate, i paid $99.00 a night.

The grounds were well manicured and the fire pit was a great way to unwind at night.

The parking lot's were full but the place was packed. Even with that I didn't have a hard time parking close to my room.

I didn't need help w/ baggage but I noticed that there were plenty of staff on hand to help if it was needed. They were flying around on Golf Carts and I noticed them assisting a lot of people.

Check in and check out was easy since you can use the automated touch screens.

Unless you stay in the Regency Club, you will pay $10 per day for internet. It's billed on a 24 hour period.

You can also use the business office at the conference center but be advised that it is very expensive. $5.00 for a single page fax and $1 for each additional page. $5 minimum. Printing from the computer is not as expensive, but to use the computer is also .25 per minute with a $5 minimum.

The staff is very cordial, and readily available.

I had a great experience and would definitely recommend this  place to friends and family.

Good:

Comfortable beds
Good room size
Modern-looking amenities

Not so good:

Spread out, campus style buildings
No A/C (leaving the sliding door open at night might be problematic)
Bathroom sink was very shallow
Kind of pricey

I was fortunate enough to stay here the last couple days for a golf invitational our team was invited to. The staff was friendly and gracious - made sure I had my early wake up calls all set. The room was cozy and clean - I think they just remodeled the rooms. The flat screen TV - always a plus and even the radio had a iPod connector.

The room was spacious enough for me. My favorite part of the whole room was the bathroom - the Kohler modern touches are awesome. I loved the sink - it is something I would want in my dream house.

The only downside is that I wish they wouldn't charge for internet especially for those coming in on business. Yet, $10 is not a lot for 24 hours of coverage. I'll definitely come back whenever I'm in Monterey.

Cheers!

My family and I went there for a vacation in the summer time around the first week of August.  Nice set up and very quiet with a nice view.  The only thing that I did not like was the lack of A/C system in the room.  I guess it works out great for the green movement, but not when you have a toddler and a baby.  The window had to be left open to get some breeze, but the problem was, we faced the parking lot so the noise bothered us, especially me (light sleeper).  Overall, I think if I would of had a golf course facing view things would have been differently.

We stay at the Hyatt at Monterey the past weekend cos they offered an internet special for $159 not bad for the weekend rate. I have to say I was very disappointed couple yrs ago when I realize they're so outdated with their rooms & facilities so 80s yikes! I'm amazed to find out they just recently finished a $60M renovation and I've high expectation with the hotel.

First of all I'm happy with the web check-in service that I can do with my iphone on my way to the hotel. Once I arrived at the hotel I did my self check-in, user friendly, quick and got my key card less than 5 mins.

Overall I'm pleased with the contemporary style and the new make over of the hotel but since we're staying at the ground floor actually we can hear people walking from the second floor as well as people talking loud at the hallway. It's better off to request the third floor for future stay.

We went for a late nite drink at the hotel lobby lounge area, like the jazz band very cool but the servers were extremely slow and I think they're understaff for a Friday nite...just 2 servers for the entire lounge!!!

The next morning we went to the restauarent for a breakfast buffet, we're so pissed with the stupid hostess cos she made all of the people waiting for the tables while u r watching tons of empty seats. Her reason was they have only two servers (for a SAT?!!) and we're saying this is supposed to be a self serve buffet. She's speechless and tried to avoid interaction with all of us & made herself busy cleaning up tables. This is so rediculous!!! and stupid. We'd waited for almost 25 mins and we just have to give up coz we have a tee time at noon. We end up have to eat our breakfast at the club house, luckily not too bad.

Actually we're a little pissed when we checked in with the Del Monte GC pro shop cos they said they didn't have any record of our tee time What dah!!! I got all the Hyatt concierge confirmation and things were getting out of wack! We went back and compained to the concierge but he kind of suck! He didn't put much effort given he did give us a standard cold apology. Anyways we did manage to get a 12:30pm tee time after we said we would cancel our initial given made up tee time at 1:30pm.

We stay here *a lot*. It's right on Del Monte golf course, the fireplace bar has a good wine list and live jazz on the weekends, there are tennis courts, you can usually get a deal on rooms...what's not to like? The new Accista Spa is wonderful. I love hanging out in the fireplace bar in the evenings, or having lunch and watching the golfers on the patio in the afternoons. The sports bar is fun too, always something to watch on TV while you are sipping your pint and munching your wings or popcorn. And, how fun is it to roast marshmallows with your kid over the outdoor firepit, while drinking a glass of Sangiovese? This is the perfect place to relax after a long week in the city. There are pools, ping-pong tables and a giant chess set. Something for everyone.

We came here for one of my best friend's wedding and it was quite lovely. My one complaint is during the ceremony, there were rude people playing ping pong behind the guests! Excuse me, but can you hold your game for 20 minutes and be respectful???!! Idiots. Management should be much better at stopping those kinds of things, especially when a couple pays top dollar to get married on the grounds.

The room we stayed in was nice and newly renovated. The counter in the bathroom was a complete blessing since I had to lay out all of my makeup to dolly up the bridesmaids. No A/C in any of the rooms. We were sweating up on each other the whole time we were getting ready. Very helpful bellboy who went out of his way to help us with our bags and get us ice.

Food at the wedding was pretty good. I had the filet which was very well cooked. My BFF next to me had the salmon and it was very overcooked so she did not enjoy it much. Cake was great. The couple hosted a few hours of open bar and a cash bar kicked in about halfway through dinner. I did not appreciate the rude old bartender but my state of drunkness will forgive him. Shots were going for $8 a pop.

To sum up everything:
Hotel Room Rating: 3.5 stars
Wedding Venue (ballroom, cocktail hour patio, ceremony site): 4 stars
Wedding Food: 3.5 stars

My friends getting married on a gorgeous Monterey day - 1 billion stars!!!!

Got my room here on Priceline, so for $119 on a Laguna Seca race and holiday weekend, I think it was a bargain. I liked the express check in and the bar with the live jazz. The hotel itself has a rather dated Monterey lodge type look from the outside, but I think it fits in nicely with the wooded surroundings. The grounds are well kept and include a lovely fireplace gazebo and nice pool/hot tub areas. I agree that the hotel is spread out over a large area but my legs are healthy and the walk was not that bad. The room was on the street and highway side which I wasn't thrilled about, but I slept like a log and it was extremely clean and comfortable. Though it's a very short cab or car ride to downtown and Cannery row, there isn't much within walking distance. Had I paid full price, I might have been disappointed, but at that price on a weekend where for the same money I could have wound up at the Super 8 in Seaside for the same money, who can complain?

Arrived here on Friday and did our check in the first thing i noticed was they were having some kind of construction going on and a lot of the parking lot was blocked off.  We got to check in early and requested a late check out.

The rooms were pretty much updated flat screen, ipod dock and in room coffee. we were assigned a  room on the first floor and to my surprise it was pretty quiet the patio we had was on the golf course .The bathroom that we had was updated a rised sink, shower and tub.

The grounds had a fire pit area, ping pong and the pool areas were clean and nice.

The breakfast area was clean food made to order a little steep but whats not in Monterey......

The minus is the parking due to the construction. Will I return? Yup for the rate i got........ Overall rating 4 stars.

The driveway immediately gives you the impression that this place is run down.  There are no elaborate decorations or even the slightest hint of elegance upon driving up.  The check in lobby is a different story, decorated modernly with a fireplace in the center.

Check in kiosk's are provided as well as talking to an actual person for the more old fashioned folks.  The kiosk's are incredibly slow but the manager said that this is already being taken care of, although no date was given for when they would be faster.  The machine spat out our room key and a map to where our room was.  We drove to building 3 and got into our room facing the golf course.

The room has a modern decor, tones of beige, white, and brown fill the room.  A flat screen TV sits on the counter and an iHome sits on the nightstand (they charge the iPhone 3G's but won't play music from them).

The bathroom is gorgeous.  The toilet is Toto, a very modern high efficient pretty toilet, with an upside down silver flush knob.  The shower is the size of two "normal" shower stalls in a rectangular shape with half of the opening covered by paned glass.  This is not a problem because you are not supposed to stand in the back half of the shower, and as such, water does not splash out.  There are no hooks in the shower for wash cloths are loofahs, but there is a hook right outside the shower for a dry towel.  The mirror runs along the top of the counter, about 8 feet long, and the rim is backlighted with fluorescent lights.  The sink is raised, white, modern.  The bathroom is tiled with beige.

The themed scent is white ginger.  Both the shampoo and the conditioner claim to have this scent.  Also included in the free hotel goodies were lotion, cotton balls, a shower cap, mending kit, and cotton balls, and toothpaste!  Actual travel sized Aquafresh (if there were more goodies I can't remember them).

The hotel does not represent itself as a resort, but charges a 16 dollar resort fee upon check out.  I expect included wireless at resorts, but Wifi is provided by Tmobile and is not free here.  There are no resort amenities, only 2 standard low-class hotel pools and 2 standard low-class hotel jacuzzi's.  The golf course on site is not complimentary.

The hotel is perfectly fine.  Modern decor.  Nice people working here.  But they want something like 250 dollars for a room?  No, that's not going to happen.

Fantastic hotel, folks. 5 stars all the way.

I was a little skeptical at first because of horrible reviews on Yelp, Tripadvisor, and other travel websites, but I am so glad we stayed at the Hyatt Regency Monterey for Valentine's Day. Very reasonable rate for a holiday weekend and a great experience.

One big thing to note: the hotel has been renovated since the bad reviews. The rooms are in top condition: plenty of space, ample lighting and mirrors, a plush bed, quality furnishings, and truly an amazing bathroom. I've stayed at some "chic" hotels in big, fancy cities but this bathroom blows them all away. Have you ever seen those open shower glass panels? It only covers half the standing stall but keeps water off the ground. Very sexy. The showerhead was powerful and felt like raindrops. The sink was raised and water runs nicely.

Even though the bathroom was very modern and the furnishings in the room were similar (but more contemporary), the room still had a lovely and quaint Monterey feel to it. It remains outdoorsy and romantic. I highly recommend the Hyatt Regency Monterey for a winter or early spring getaway. There is no air conditioning so keep it in mind when coming here during the warmer months, though.

Everytime my family and I went on vacation, we stayed at Hyatt Regency.  Either be it international or domestic, Hyatt is our choice! No ifs, no buts, no excuses.
We went here this time at Monterey to view some whales. (My experience with that viewing will here at Yelp after I write this review).

1. Newly renovated. Could tell by no scratches on furnitures and smelling good furniture.
2. Really wide private lot, plenty of space to park and explore. (they got spas/jacuzzi, table tennis, pool with basketball, gym, full bar, and of course business rooms)
3. Front desk and housekeeping department are superb. They are friendly, they do their job well, and they always repeat what I have said and does not bother to ask if there are other things I need.
4. Ipod accessible.
5. Really close to Monterey Fisherman's Wharf (about 5 minutes drive).
6. Price is just ok. (Maybe pricey for some, but for me and my family, we dont think so!)

Cons:
1.Park at your own risk. No valet.
2. No bellman/bellboy around.
3. If you're not familiar with the hotel (this hotel is cluster hotel), and you might get lost finding your ways because it has too many buildings, and really really wide.

I would recommend people to come and experience what my family has been experiencing ever since.

This hotel is a deal, bid on it at Priceline and am always glad to stay there.   The Aquarium area of Monterey seems a bit spendy and crowded, this was a good location central to everything.  Liked having a balcony.    Rooms were nice, a bit like a W hotel style...

My boyfriend had a conference on a weekend at their hotel and we stayed 2 nights here.  The two things I liked about this hotel was their lobby and the location.  Even though we didn't use the lobby, I thought it looked very comfortable with the fireplace and sofa around it.  The location is very convenient too since it's only a 5 minute drive from the Del Monte mall and not too far from the downtown area.

As for the room, it's pretty nice but I've stayed at a nicer hotel for the price we had to pay here which is $250/night (not including other fees).  The room is clean and the bathroom is fairly large.  If people are talking outside at a fairly loud voice in the hallway, you would be able to hear them.  As for their doors, if you let go of the door, it actually creates a loud bang like you slammed the door on purpose and sometimes you would hear that from other people who stay there.  The good thing about that is it actually locks your door better because one time I closed it silently and the door wouldn't automatically lock until 5-10 minutes later.

Two things that I really don't like about this place is you have to pay for wireless internet. When you pay $250/night you would expect to have free wi-fi but unfortunately there was a $10 fee for 24 hrs of wi-fi.  Not to mention I somehow had trouble purchasing the day pass and had to stay on the phone with a tech for an hour trying to fix the problem which never was fixed.  In the end they gave me a temporary user ID for free which was nice.  Another thing is their work-out area which I think is pretty crappy.  Yes, their machines are really nice but the room is sure small and barely has any air circulating around.  Not to mention I think they placed the workout area in a building where smoking is allowed because when you walk in the building leading to the workout area you can smell the stench of cigarettes.

For the price and experience I had here I would not come back again.  Even though their service was great it's not worth $250/night for me.

I'm picky so i probably sound like I didn't like the hotel, but I would go back in a heart beat and I recommend that any one looking for a special weekend go here before the other resort style hotels in the area.

For a top tier brand, this hotel was inconsitent, though I really enjoyed staying there.  little things, the house keeper made up the room a different way each day, adding items and leavign others behind.

The front desk always seemed flustered before 8 PM.

The restaurant staff seemed over whelmed most of the time and service was slow on more than one occaison. However  having BJ help us at breakfast was a delight, he's a great person to run in to first thing in the morning.

The spa is new, they have a few kinks but i enjoyed the staff and the mani-pedi.

The rooms are very comfortable, beautiful even, and the location is PEACEFUL, and very BEAUTIFUL SCENERY. perfect for a romantic get away.

The fitness center is also a great asset.

If you go for dinner, definitly try the ravioli.

Great deal for the money. This is newly renovated resort so the property is pretty nice, including lobby, bar, restaurant and rooms.

Good location for us as it is secluded but b/c it is close enough to hwy 1, can get to monterey fisherman wharf/cannery row or carmel by the sea in 10-15 mins driving (door to door).

Golf course was pretty good though expensive for that course. Resort is spread out and beautiful, lots of greenery, trees, vegetation, great ambiance.

The lobby is not very big so can feel bit busy during holiday rush hours. Though service was good, they tried to be helpful. We had booked room with king bed but they messed up and did not have it available b/c of busy weekend so gave us room with 2 queen (we were checking in early afternoon so not sure how they can screw that up as check-ins were just starting, later we found out there was a wedding party there so they were fully packed). Upon insisting for room with king bed that we had reserved, they comped us with their Regency Club access and 50% off drinks at their fireplace and piano bar . This Regency Club was such a sham but fireplace and piano bar by the 18th hole was splendid! Great service, beautiful views, lovely music performance, super!!

Room was good w/ new furnishings, nice large flat lcd tv. But tv did not have hdmi so i could not plug in my laptop to the tv... must be an obscure model to not have hdmi connection these day, ohh well i wasnt here to plug my laptop to tv :-)

room was beautiful, elegant, modern feel, great touch. The bed was too soft for us though... Beds at Starwood - W, Westin rock!! Bathroom was nice.

One thing we noticed during our stay, you had top ask for stuff like slippers, bathrobe etc, they would not provide by themselves in the room. And b/c the place is so spread out, it took them time to deliver.

Also, as part of eco friendly, their a/c did not go down below 65, which was bit annoying for me, though for most it would be fine, i just opened the window for a short while.

Pool and jacuzzi was nice, they also had some ping pong tables around there which was fairly popular w/ kids!

Restaurant was very good, great service, though bit on the expensive side even for this kinda place.

Atr checkout, I found out that they tried to nicle and dime us for self-parking at the resort, as well as wifi.  Self parking at spread out resort in place like monterey should not be charged and i refused to pay for that and they took that out.  I also suggested for the price of this place, they should not nickle and dime for wifi and they obliged and took that charge out as well.

Despite the fact that I got our room here on Priceline for $85, compared to the normal $250+ rate, I still barely thought it was worth it. The building is very reminiscent of a Motel 6 or Days Inn. Once you go inside, they clearly have done a recent remodel, but with super cheap stuff. It looks decent, but it's really not quality stuff. Thank goodness the beds and pillows were decent.

We got a very scenic view of the parking lot and freeway (we called it the "Priceline" building, where they put all the cheapos). The room itself was very standard for a mid-range hotel/motel, but I would have been pissed if I had paid over $150 for this tiny room. Anyway, the worst part? We were rudely awakened by our neighbors playing soccer or fetch or something next door starting at 7am!!! Plus, you could hear every step of the people above and on either side of us! I couldn't sleep at all from 7am on! This made me super upset, because I didn't know who to call because everyone was being loud! I told the reception upon our checkout and she reversed our "resort fee" (whatever that is!). Despite all that, I'd forget this place and drop a few extra to stay at an actually nice hotel, like the Hilton or the Monterey Plaza.

Got a decent price on priceline.  Room was renovated and pretty nice, hotel italian restaurant was not bad, and the gym is good.

Annoying things: Parking was impossible on Sat night I think due to some events they had going on.  $15 resort fee was not expected and wasn't explained, why don't they add that to the price?  Room had some crayon on the wall.

This was my first stay at a Hyatt, but this particular location was more than adequate.  We got a quiet room on the third floor facing the golf course and all was well.  Upon walking into the hallways I noticed the light scent of lavender in the air and it reminded me of home, always a good thing while you're on the road.  Simple tasteful furnishings adorned the room, and to my delight the room looked slightly better than the pictures online.  But let's cut to the chase, I'm all about the bed, because what use is good furnishings if you can't sleep.  Well I'm happy to report that the King beds here beat the pants off of the "Heavenly Beds" that I've had chance to encounter many a times on work travel.

The gym at this location also has been renovated so the equipment is quite good.  There's a separate locker and shower room too, which were just as good as some of the higher end spas,  but for some reason the front desk could not find the keys to the lockers.

Overall a very pleasant stay, and definitely a place that I would not hesitate to return to next time we are in town.

Great place to stay for the price.  Everything was updated, clean and very modern.  Loved it, so close to everything in Monterey on a hop skip and jump away.    The bathroom was the best - a must in a 4 star hotel.  The rooms had everything you needed, complimentary Starbucks coffee, bottled water and good quality bathing products.

Stayed here for two nights a few weeks ago.  In general, the facilities are a bit run down, but the rooms are pretty nice, clean, and spacious.  I got a great deal on Hotwire for the room, so it was pretty affordable.

I would definitely stay here again, but might try to find something closer to downtown Monterey next time.  But in general, the location was pretty solid.  Right off the highway and quick driving distance from everything.

We decided to stay at Hyatt over the weekend because 1. We were playing at Del Monte Golf Course on Sunday morning and 2. The website shows amazing decoration and promising facilities.

Well, the close proximity to the golf course is a plus.  The recently-renovated decoration was a plus too.  But, for the first time goers, these are the things you don't learn from the websites:

1. Think motels: You check in at a central location, then go back to your cars and drive to the building you are assigned.  Parking is right outside the first floor rooms.
2. Rooms are well-appointed but small.  There is only shower in the small bathroom and no tub.
3. We staying at bldg. 22.  Hwy 1 is about 100 ft. from the front door (noisy!).  The balcony is useless as we looked directly into a huge construction area (dirt) and other building.  Zero view.
4. When our toddler cried in the middle of the night, our friends staying *two doors* down heard the crying.  Sound proofing needs work!
5. Breakfast....Food quality is pretty good.  But selection is few.  And, really, $25 for a couple glasses of fresh OJ's, muffins and an omelet?

To be honest, we did not get to use the facilities advertised - spa, hot tub, gym...etc.  Perhaps those are the saving graces.  For families with small children who just want a good night of in-room pampering, I cannot recommend Hyatt.

OK, I cheated and got a room for $150/night on http://Hotwire.com I did check and at the time I think the room was going for $200/night normal price.

I really did love this hotel. The service was great and everyone was friendly. I loved the room where it seemed everybody had a balcony or outdoor porch to sit on. The bed was huge and super comfy with ample pillow-age. Loved the flat screen big screen TV, the work desk was even large enough for two chairs.

The bathroom was probably my favorite with a shower so large it didn't even need a door, great shower head, huge bathroom counter with super duper sink and even a chair that went underneath the counter. A mirror spanning the whole length of the bathroom. My only bathroom complaints is that the toilet paper holder is put at a height that takes away legroom. It' not the tightest fit in the world, but when you're on your throne you want all the space you can get.

FREE SAUNA divided by sex with terrycloth robes from 8am to 7pm. AWESOME! And convenient showers to wash off before getting back into your clothes. Amazing bathroom/changing room.

The spa is elaborate in decor (the sauna is in the spa) but might have prevented the hotel from 5 stars. It's $130 an hour (80 for 30 minutes?) and that's not including a mandatory 19% gratuity. So basically, $150. The experience is nice service wise. Everyone is super polite, the changing room, robes, slippers, even a relaxation room with fruits & nuts and water with fruit at the bottom for a subtle flavor. First class experience. I'm just wondering where the great massage was for that place. Jacqueline was very polite and nice and tried to adjust when I knew what to ask for. But, something was just clearly missing as I had a massage that was less than half the price in a basic room without all the trimmings for only 30 minutes not too long ago and it was world's better. If you just need any massage, you might be happy but maybe try a different therapist. Cool massage "table/chair" that moves upper body or lower body depending on what they are working.

I liked the exercise room. It wasn't huge but seemed plenty big to me and I was the only one using it. Kettleballs, 2 exercise balls, more treadmills, bikes, and elliptical than I can remember. Dumbell freeweights and other machines I haven't seen before. All the bikes and treadmills had built in screens for watching TV, iPod jacks, and even Virtual trainers. COOL!

Two Heather Swimming pools each with Jaccuzi. Closes at 9pm though :-(   The pools seem a little on the small side but I guess no one was using them.

Golf course seems great but I didn't use. Not sure of cost?

2 different restaurants sports bar and fancier Italian one available. Breakfast buffet is the bomb (and I hate that phrase but it was that good). Also a coffee bar/bar in the main lobby where they had live jazz on Saturday night.

If you want something within walking distance of Monterey, this i not it. However the location is awesome in other ways less than 5 minutes off Highway 1 and conveniently able to drive quickly to downtown Monterey, shopping, Carmel, or Point Lobos State Park.

I find it funny how people are so negative on this place because of the lack of AC. How often does it get above 70F in Monterey? Whenever it felt a bit warm in the room, I'd crack the window a little bit more open and blammo, it was nice and chilly inside. They even include a fan with a 4 position speed control so u can circulate that chilly air to yer hearts desire.

This hotel (hybrid motel) was one of the best values I've found through Priceline. 95 bucks and I'm sleeping and pooping in Euro modern goodness. The rooms have been renovated nicely and the bathroom is especially good in the remodelling department. (Check out some pictures I've uploaded.) I found the elevated sink amusing and the open shower befitting of royalty. The toilet was even chic as can be. I felt like a million bucks sitting on it. My 4 yr old boy was using it and asked me "Daddy, who is Toto?" Much to my amazement, it turns out my boy can read!

The beds were nicely outfitted but a bit too plush. I kinda liked it but I bet those with bad backs will be much maligned. We had a double bed room and each bed had a cool retro book light mounted on a flexible stalk, right out of War of the Worlds (sans Tom Cruise). Other plush amenities included a flat screen TV with premium kiddo channels (Noggin and Sprout) and an iPod docking clock radio, which went nuts when I plugged in my iPhone. My iPhone politely let me know that it was not made to jack into that radio, but I was able to jack in by going to airplane mode.

The lobby was nicely decorated as well with free lemonade on one occasion. I checked a 2nd time and the lemonade was nowhere in sight. Staff was fine in the politeness department, but when I checked out there was only 1 guy and plenty of people in line. They have self check out kiosks but it wouldn't read my Amex, poo.

Complaints include the proximity of the ashtray thing next to the elevator. I was overwhelmed by 2nd hand smoke on more than on occasion. The location is not as good as Casa Munras, you have to drive to get anywhere meaningful, but the drive was very short, and this hotel is almost a straight shot to Monterey's Fish House on Del Monte. Oh yeah Wifi is not free, so I tried to use my iPhone, but could barely get a signal, so I was offline for the entire stay *GASP*.

If you can score a Priceline deal here, you will not be disappointed.

It was a pretty warm weekend to be in a hotel with no A/C.  It was bearable but A/C would have added to the comfort level.  The pool was over chlorinated and we had red eyes for the rest of the day.  I got the room via priceline and thought what I got was reasonable.  However, at the listed price, I would have been disappointed.  They do add a resort fee to your bill of about $15 which they said was for parking.  This is bad since part of their ad is complimentary parking.  The location is a bit further from the heart of Cannery Row, but within 5 mins drive or 10 mins biking, you'd be in CR.

This hotel was wonderful!  Just stayed there over the weekend.  Looks like they just finished their $60 million renovation.  The room was really nice.  You could even still smell the new wood they just installed.  The lobby was nice with a fireplace right in the middle.  Concierge was helpful  - gave good recommendations on restaurants, plus gave us a free appetizer coupon.  Swimming pool was heated - it even had a basketball hoop on the side of the pool for a great exercise.  The jacuzzi was nice.  There is even a firepit next to the pool to just hang out and have a good view of the golf course.  There were 2 ping pong tables - that was fun.  Lastly, the spa was excellent!  My husband and I had the BEST massages this morning!  I will definitely come back to this hotel!  HIghly recommended.

If I was going to be staying in Monterey for a week , as I did - there are only a few other hotels that I would spend my time at.......the Hyatt is one of them.

Okay so at first I was a little creeped out about staying there because I was there ten years ago when it was ghetto. Then I went online and saw that they had redone the rooms - oooooh I likey - very modern and as I say, California Contemporary.

After reading Cindy Q's review I agree with her pro's and con's completely.

I dig the large bathroom and killer bed however I too thought it was odd that there was no door on the shower, no fan and no lock on the bathroom. To be honest it did not really matter cause I was staying by myself - it did get wierd when we had a hospitality room in a suite and people had to get sneaky using the bathroom , I watched men have a friend hang out in the front so people did not walk in......

I really liked the lobby bar and my room service was good - overpriced as always

The only thing that super sucked was the limited items in the gift shop to munch on late night and Knuckles Sports bar - worst service in a bar ever. Just be prepared to walk to the bar to get your drinks yourself - and do not order a martini - James  Bond would roll over in his grave if he had one of these liquid disasters

With that said - I would recommend this hotel - it beats staying in Seaside.....well anything is better than sleeping in Seaside

I stayed here on business and was debating whether I should give this two stars or three.  As you can see, I opted not to be too generous, and here is why:

1.  $219 a night, but that's before they add on the room tax and the $10 resort fee.  After they do that, it's really $250 a night.

2.  My colleague's door creaked really loudly every time she opened and closed it.  I have nothing but love and respect for my colleague, but I'm glad my room was in the next building over from hers so that I didn't have to hear that creaky door.

3.  I had a mini-fridge, but nowhere to plug it in.  Does this make any sense?  I wanted to chill some bottled water, what with the hot weather we were having, but the only outlet the mini-fridge plug could reach was already taken by the television.  I didn't want to unplug the TV because I was attempting to watch it (see below).  Plus, I would have had to pull out the fridge anyway to successfully unplug the TV.  I considered doing this, and then pictured the mini-fridge toppling over, breaking my foot and resulting in a pretty ridiculous and embarrassing workers' compensation injury.  Did I mention that my business trip was for a workers' compensation convention?

4.  Speaking of the TV, it was really hard to watch.   It was equipped with a stupid entertainment menu, so I had to scroll through two pages of "pay for entertainment" options before reaching the free television option.  Then I had to click on it one channel at a time to view what was on each channel.  If I didn't like what was on the selected channel, I had to go back to the beginning of the menu and start the entire process all over again.  There was no TV viewing guide either on the TV or in print form in the room.  I don't recall television being this difficult to watch since the days of dials and rabbit ears!  (Yes, I really am that old.)  Eventually, I gave up and watched American Idol.  Now that was difficult to watch.

5.  While watching American Idol, I realized I was desperately hungry.  I realized this because my stomach started growling during an Applebee's commercial.  An Applebee's commercial making you want to eat is kind of like American Idol making you want to applaud.  It's just wrong.  Anyway, it was after 9 p.m. and I didn't feel like getting dressed and going to dinner alone, so I called room service and ordered an $18 chopped salad from the restaurant/sports bar downstairs.  They told me it would come in half an hour.  It didn't arrive until 45 minutes later.

So in the end, each of these little things would have been forgiveable in a less pricey hotel, but if the hotel is going to charge $250 a night, I want perfection, people!  Perfection, or at least close to it.

So, two stars because I would never consider staying here on my own dime, or rather, 2500 of them.

I want to give this place a 5 star because we were treated well here. I booked a 1 night stay through AAA for my husband and I to get away for a short while. He played golf and I went to the spa =). We were here in June during the blues festival and the hotel was completely sold out. Despite the fact that the hotel was busy, the staff remained corteous. The only drawback was we circled around looking for an elevator but didnt find one right away. Did you know that their rooms do not have A/C? Monterey is generally cool year round but the weekend we were there, it was unexpectedly warm (around the 80's which was rare). It was actually a pleasant surprise as it turned out to be a good golf day. We had dinner at the adjoining restaurant, Tusca and enjoyed a live jazz band by the fireplace afterwards. Our reservations included a free breakfast so we came back to the restaurant the next day and they had a buffet with omelet station. I found everything to be very delicious and again the staff was very accomodating. Got to enjoy the spa (A+) and the pool. Waited forever for Husband to return but found out that his tee time got delayed. I called the front desk and asked if should move to the hospitality suite but they said to stay in the room for as long as needed. We checked out at 2:30 (way beyond the 12:00nn check out required). Overall, great facilities, great people, great food, great escape.

If there's one word to describe how I felt about my room at the Monterey Hyatt, I'd say "infatuated."  I had a standard room (worth $280) on the ground floor with a view of the golf course, and even though i couldn't care less about golf, there is something about waking up next to all that open land that is so very inviting.  Almost anywhere you look, the newly-renovated property is beautiful.  The decor of the rooms is earthy and modern without trying too hard (like the W).  The staff is very very friendly.  The flat-screen TV's are a bonus.  And the piece de resistance...OMFG THE BEDS ARE SOOOOO COMFY.  Those Grand Hyatt Beds don't retail for $1500 for nothin.

Pro's:
-the view
-the bed
-the pillows
-did i mention the bed?
-friendly staff

Con's:
-no door on the shower (for design purposes? it was weird)
-no lock or fan in the bathroom
-no A/C
-parking is scarce if you have more than one car to a room
-questionable housekeeping policies?*

*After our room got cleaned we noticed two of our wine glasses and the box they came in disappeared...housekeeping said they accidentally threw it out thinking it was "trash" (wine glasses?!?!?!) and were very apologetic.  The Hyatt ended up comping us for one night, so as weird of a situation as that was, i guess all's well ends well.

I loved the Hyatt, but i can't wait to check out The Clement...

Rooms on the first floor are creepy and not safe if you're sleeping alone. First, the entry to the hallway is not secure. Second, the patio door just opens to the parking lot! Or the golf course. Totally creepy, right?

The lack of HVAC isn't such a problem but it's creepy to open the sliding door. It's the lack of security that bothers me.

The beds are wonderful and the T-Mobile is super convenient.
