21 reviews for Hyatt Regency Maui Resort
We had a pretty awful experience GETTING to Maui and the Hyatt. When we finally arrived I had been up for almost 48 hours and was at wits end. The service desk was so amazingly awesome that I must admit I was very teary with appreciation. The leis, free valet and water just was so welcoming!
Our room was AMAZING! Ocean views, balcony overlooking the ocean and resort... can't rave enough.
The food on the resort is really good, very surprising considering I'm used to HOTEL food not being so great. The room service pizza was one of the best I've had! The breakfast buffet is amazing but since our room did not come with a free buffet we didn't eat there more than once.
I didn't get time to enjoy much of the resort itself but my husband passed out in one of the oceanfront hammocks for an afternoon and said it was blissful. I did love all of the animals and just scenery in the area. So exotic and awesome.
One day there was a Kona Storm and when walking through the open atrium the hotel staff handed out panchos so you didn't get soaked - nice touch IMHO!
Great resort and amazing staff. We are eager to return!
OK, so I am a frequent traveler and pretty spoiled (unfortunately). I wouldn't normally choose this Hyatt because it is a bit convention-y and I prefer something more, well, Hawaiian or someplace that makes me feel like I'm in Hawaii anyway. But I had some Hyatt points and managed to get a night on the club level for free. Woo hoo!
So this review is mostly for the club level, although I did enjoy my stay very much. In my experience, most club lounges in the US have cut back considerably. Most seem to only offer a few snacks, maybe a hot option at happy hour, if you're lucky you get a bar. Not at this place. The Regency Club at this Hyatt does a very nice job in providing a great place to get away and have some apps and drinks or breakfast in the morning. It's like how club levels used to be.
Our first experience was happy hour right after we arrived. I was pleasantly surprised to see several stations of food and a full open bar. I decided to start my vacation with a glass of bubbly and hit up pretty much all of the stations. They had a veggie crudite with various dips (including some Maui onion deliciousness), a mediterranean station with hummus, tapenade, olives, lavosh and cheeses and another station with snacky type foods like nuts and chips. We picked a great table on the balcony outside to enjoy. We had a great view of the ocean, and when our champagne was low, one of the servers came out to refill our glasses. It was wonderful. So wonderful that we decided to return a couple of hours later for some dessert and cordials. I treated myself to a glass of Grand Marnier and the bf and I tried a bit of the dessert selection.
In the morning, we came by for breakfast to discover the same great selection as happy hour. Bagels and lox, fresh tomatoes and onions, hard boiled eggs, cheeses, pastries, cereal, fresh fruit galore. Not to mention a selection of fresh juices. It was wonderful. We snagged our favorite table outside and hung out for a while. They have snacks and drinks (sodas, bottled water) available all day too, just in case you missed the breakfast, happy hour or desserts.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the rest of the stay as well. The beds were comfortable, the pool was fun and the staff was friendly, but the best part was that Regency Club. The bf raved about it all week, even though we only stayed for one night. If you have the chance to upgrade, you should definitely take advantage of it. Totally worth it!

My husband and I stayed during our honeymoon. As soon as we arrived we were greeted Hawaiian style with leis. The front desk staff was so helpful and accommodating. He upgraded our room to partial ocean view instead of our golf/mountain view. We also received a photo album and a complimentary certificate for a bottle of champagne for the hotel restaurant. Our room became cramped after a while. We wished we ordered the suite.
The lobby area was very exotic. There were birds, penguins, and lots of trees and plants. It was just gorgeous. My favorite part was the pool area. There were plenty of chairs, but you have to get there early bc it becomes full during the afternoon. The pool side staff are so nice. You are able to order food from the hotel cafe and have it pool side. Also, I loved that they passed out popsicles and cold towels during the day. They have the best lava flows there as well. Each day, they have a drink special. Too bad lava flow was not a special.
We didn't eat at the hotel bc we wanted to try other places. We loved our stay here during our fabulous honeymoon. The staff was helpful to our many questions and the hotel was just lovely! I would totally stay here again!

Even though we didn't stay at the Hyatt, we had two really nice meals there while in Maui. The brunch was AMAZING- a great selection of food with a killer view. We also went there for a traditional Hawaiian luau, which was slightly less impressive...a little too "touristy" for my liking. But I guess that's what one should expect with a luau.
The grounds of the Hyatt are expansive and it's a nice place to walk around and see some of the best views of the West Maui coastline. Also, there are some cute little shops in the lobby. I lost my sunglasses at our resort and found a nice pair in one of the shops. A nice place to stop by when in Maui!
Want to be pampered and not pay celebrity prices for it? I have a secret solution for you. Beaches in all Hawaii are public. Stay at the nearby lower-priced resorts, walk on over to the Hyatt first thing in the morning, plop down on a plush lawn chair and order yourself a pina colada for breakfast. Start a tab, and spend your day there. The food is wonderful. At night, come back to the clubs and the dining, visit the African Penguins and Parrots in the lobby, and enjoy the ambiance.
I stayed at this hotel about 8 months ago and while swimming on their swimming pool, I accidentally brushed up against the wall of the pool (the one with rock or simulated rock or something or rather), and got a really nasty rash. Hotel Management was completely unsympathetic too, as if I was looking for to sue, or a hand out or something. Absolutely no class, and no way to treat a guest.
By the way, if you enjoy seeing nothing but tourists in t-shirts, dark shorts and black socks ALL DAY LONG, then this is the place for you.

It's an aging, but nice resort hotel. I've been here twice now, and both times the experience was pretty good:
The Good:
1. Great location, right on the beach
2. Very airy atrium-like lobby
3. Nice-sized rooms with great views
4. Many restaurants onsite
The Bad:
1. Rooms are getting old and bathrooms are dirty
2. Service CAN SUCK from some of the disgruntled workers, especially those at the pool and the grumpy room service ladies
3. Food is mediocre, other than the breakfast buffet
4. Self-parking is a mile away
5. Guests can get out of control and the hotel does nothing about it
For $300-500 a night, I expect more, even in Maui.
5 stars. this place was great, amazing food, amazing pool, amazing staff, PENGUINS!!!!
their breakfast buffet made my day everyday! Great location.
I cant say enough good things abotu this place. I cant wait to stay here again someday!
We just stayed here for the maui portion of our honeymoon. The hotel grounds and lobby are beautiful, tropical and have amazing birds, flamingos, swans, and penguins. YES PENGUINS.(and to the review below that says penguins in Maui is cruel the penguins they have are not cold climate penguins, the species they have adapt to any weather just fine, we have them in san diego too..). We tried all the restaurants on the resort and they where all very good, but they are a bit overpriced- we didn't spend under $70 for a meal for two. The cocktails are pretty good, and they are $10-$15 which seems normal to me for a resort setting. We received Lei's and a goody-bag of stuff in an eco-reusable bag including a ticket for a free bottle of champagne with a dinner when we checked in. We got a decent room with a free upgrade and the beds are suuuppperrrr comfy. Everyone we encountered was very nice and went along with any requests we made. We where also able to book our snorkeling/dolphin trip right in the "mall" area of the resort which also has a small macy's with tons of bathing suits and coverups incase you forgot to bring yours. I would say the only thing that was disappointing to us was that although the location is right on the beach and the view is beautiful, you can't really swim at the beach here it is a small space of sand to water ratio, and it is too rocky and the current is very strong. One of the nights we also saw a manowar swimming close to the shoreline which was cool. With that being said I am glad we also did a few days on waikiki beach because the beach there is amazing with light blue crystal clear water that is warm all day long. Oh yeah, and the breakfast buffet is amazing. We both dont eat chicken or beef and there was a lot of vegetarian/fish options here which was awesome. we will deff. being staying here again on our next trip to Maui- it was well worth the price!

I was trying to save something good for the big 3-0-0. I would have used this for the hotel we got married at, but I didn't realize how close I was to 300 until AFTER I'd yelped it. Drats! Anyway... this hotel was my favorite place during our honeymoon so I figured that's good enough for 300 :)
This Hyatt is gorgeous!! We asked if they had any upgraded rooms or suites available upon check in and ended up paying some extra money for a suite... I'm pretty sure it was one of the best suites in the house. I'm not kidding when I tell you that *3* staff members commented on how awesome our room was when I gave them our room number.. and they were right!
This room was more like an apartment and it had just been renovated. Flat screen TVs, hardwood floors, 3 - YES 3 balconies, and everything in there was brand new. It was absolutely gorgeous and I could have stayed here forever.
The pool is awesome! They have a grotto bar you can swim to in a cave between the pools and a lava tube slide!! The grounds are amazing, they have swans, penguins!!!, flamingos, ducks, fish, random birds that talk to you in the lobby, a rope bridge over one of the pools.. I could go on.
The staff was very friendly and the management sent us a bottle of champagne since it was our honeymoon. The breakfast buffet was awesome - tons of variety.
I'll yelp the spa separately, but I will tell you this - the lomi lomi massage I got at the spa was the best massage I had in Hawaii - maybe the best massage EVER.
When we go back to Maui I'm totally staying here!!

A resort with all the kitsch - and I mean that in a good way! Once we entered the hotel lobby, I felt that we were transported to a land far, far away...as if I've entered a scene in "The Jungle Book!" Okay, maybe it's not that gaudy but it comes pretty damn close. There is no rooftop and/or walls in the entire hotel so you get the sensation that you've always got one foot out the door. I think the hotel wants to come across as a sanctuary for birds, having different species of birds displayed throughout their garden and lobby, but I perceived it as birds held in captivity. Nevertheless, being greeted in the morning by a Macaw named Popeye and eating breakfast with swans swimming nearby makes me feel like I'm in paradise.
The pool is great for both adults and children (screaming kiddies are roped off in their own section so don't you worry adults) and the beach is decent. Sure, you get some parts that's a little bit rocky but you're going to get that at any beach you stay in the Lahaina area. Frankly, I wouldn't recommend anyone swimming in the ocean if they've partook in some alcoholic consumption like I did the whole time I was there. What I do recommend is renting a cabana on the beach (they also have some near the pool area but the ones on the beach are much more secluded, although don't expect alcohol being served to you there) and just relax and enjoy the sound of the ocean waves. Word of advice: rent the cabanas at 1:00 PM or later because the price is reduced by 50% - from $50 to $25. This includes a staff member bringing you ice water, cold towels and pineapple chunks for you to snack on. Alcohol and food service is only available for cabanas on the hotel property. Since it is a public beach, the hotel is not allowed to serve booze to you, but the bar is a few walking steps away!
All the restaurants have great food especially Cascades Grill & Sushi Bar. Beautiful ambiance/scenery, great seafood, good wine selection and a spectacular dessert pie made of macadamia nut ice cream I think. This was our favorite restaurant during our whole trip in Maui. If you do not have the breakfast buffet included in your hotel package, just make sure you visit it at least once while you are there. They have the BEST apple chicken sausage and hawaiian french toast ever! Cost is about $29/person but it is so damn worth it! The only problem is the aggressive, scavenging birds waiting for you to leave the table so they can attack your food. These birds ARE NOT afraid of humans and will pretty much fly to the empty chair next to you and mock you while you eat. Pretty damn bold if you ask me. Remember, this hotel is always kinda outdoors so be prepare to get up close and personal with the live creatures there. Don't worry, they won't bite hard.
All in all, the Hyatt is probably the best resort on this whole strip when it comes to accommodations and food. It's a one-stop-shop practically - you have two Expedia activities center there so you can book your snorkeling, zip lining, bike riding down a volcano, etc. excursions there; boutiques and a Macy's, 3 restaurants, 2 bars, and a shopping/restaurant center called Whalers Village that's walking distance from the hotel. The decor at this hotel will make you feel like you're really in Hawaii too, but if you want something more aesthetically luxurious *yawn*, I suggest the Ritz Carlton 10 minutes away at Kapalua.

We stayed a week at the Hyatt for our honeymoon. It was our first time to Maui. The hotel and its grounds were very pretty, but for what we were paying for our room, I expected a little more!
The grounds are gorgeous - I think the best out of the hotels in Kaanapali. Lots of tropical plants, gorgeous pools and an awesome water slide. The buffet breakfasts there were amazing. So much good food with a SPECTACULAR view of the grounds and the ocean. Their sushi bar is great, and their fruity drinks can't be missed.
If staying in Kaanapali, I would definitely recommend staying here!
I got married here in the oriental garden and it was beautiful!! We were originally supposed to get married on the nearby Canoe beach but the coordinators were unable to get the beach permit so we ended up having the ceremony here. Although disappointed about the last minute change in plans, the location made up for it! The ceremony was GREAT and the garden was beautiful! We ate at the Son'z in the Hyatt for the reception at a reasonable price and they even made a beautiful (yet pricey) wedding cake. The cake was just OK, but all of our guests enjoyed the food. We also stayed here for 7 days in a room with a partial view. Although I have stayed in nicer rooms, the room was a nice size and the bed was comfortable! The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the breakfast buffet was great!! We had issues with the key cards not working throughout our stay. But, overall, we enjoyed our stay here and would come again.

This review is only for a Look See.
We just stopped in to look around the lobby.
WOW, it looks fabulous, you feel like royalty, it looks that special.
The dining area looks fancy; the view will blow you away. I must come back. The nice suites start at $475 a night; the top of line is $750 per night !!!!
Yes its nice and all that and I agree with many of the good reviews. However, here is some important info. The pool area is not at all Kid friendly and this entire strip of resorts does not have any real kid friendly pools.........little kids to about 3 year old will be terrified.
The Hyatt has the WORST beach on the strip. It is a tiny sandbar most of the day with a steep incline into a strong tidal surf. Not good to swim, and no room to lay on the beach. However, technically, there is a big beach just south of the property that is still a ways from your room. Its not just down the elevator and out front like you would expect. Go north 2 hotels from here and the beach begins to widen. If you want to actually play on the beach during your vacation, don't stay here unless you want to walk for about 5-10 minutes on a path.
Finally, there is no real surfing possbile here, snorkeling isn't very good, and its just not an ideal beach that you would expect.
The hotel is beautiful however.
Fabulous place! Maybe a notch below the Hyatt in Kauai but great anyway. My room was like 600 square feet with a huge bathroom and even though I got the cheap room like I always do I still had views of the mountains, golf course and ocean(as well as the parking lot). The room had a couch, three tables, chairs, flat screen TV, two refrigerators, crown moldings. Very nice. The interior decor of the hotel is beautiful, all done up in dark wood colors and the lobby is fabulous, especially the talking parrots. I love the wildlife in the gardens(penguins, flamingos, African Cone birds) and the pool was awesome--waterfalls, caves, slides. Just great. I loved having coffee at the Cascades restaurant(only open for dinner but the tables are available 24/7) and looking out over the water. The staff was friendly and talkative but the parking was a nightmare. Very tiny spots and not enough spaces sometimes. Nevertheless, they have a great gym and I would return in a heartbeat!
This hotel has a gorgeous lobby area complete with tropical birds, fish and plants chillin in a tranquil setting. The beds are absolutely wonderful. I stayed here when I was working for an airline and they booked this for crew overnights and I am so glad I got a Maui overnight before I left because looking at the rates now, woooooh. They're up there. The view is gorgeous whether it is towards the ocean or towards the lush green hills and mountains. I know we must have had the cheapest rooms in the place but they were still fabulous. I'm telling you, THE BED WAS AMAZING and that's always important right? Right?

I loved this place. It was absolutely gorgeous, inside and out. The service was impeccable. The ocean was a few steps away, and the view from my room was gorgeous. After this, I only want to stay at the Hyatt Regency, no matter where I go.
Excellent hotel for a family vacation. Budget extra if you plan on eating in the hotel since, as most are, this one can be pricey. The pool and waterslide were the highlight of the trip for our children. The layout is excellent and the staff is helpful (although getting food service from a lounge chair in the kids area is a challenge, but not if you're in the main area.) The room service was later than expected and sometimes we'd return to an unmade room. Conveniently, on our day of check out, they were ringing the room ready to clean it early LOL. The grounds are very beautiful and it's nice to wander around and enjoy all the birds. There are some very nice stores in the hotel too. The walk to black rock is not as close as it appeared in the guide books, but we loved the Hyatt and highly recommend it. Big perk for kids: MP3/IPod base in the room - nice to see they're up with technology. Oh, the coffee in the room is horrible - bring your own! Mahalo
I really enjoyed staying at this hotel in Maui. Maybe it was because I just got married, maybe it was the fact that I was in a beautiful tropical island, or maybe I just love Hyatt hotels??? Since I've been to Maui before, we weren't itching to see any sites, so we enjoyed the hotel's biggest amenity -- lounging around the pool sipping pina coladas and enjoying views of the beach!!

UPDATE: I've had reviewers remorse since writing this post (5 min ago) & a m changing it to 4 stars because
1. I'm remembering how comfy the bed is
2. I've been able to get soy milk every time I've asked
3. I just saw a whale from my window.
So maybe I was a little harsh the first time....
-------------------------------------------------- ------------------
Maybe I'm just not meant for big high rise resorts - actually, I know I'm not. You could be anywhere in the world, including Vegas & not know the difference. Don't get me wrong, the hotel is beautiful, rooms are clean & staff is friendly, it's just kinda...blah. Few things to note:
1. There is no beach. It's a tiny tiny sliver & pretty rocky. You have to walk down a ways in front of the Sheraton to get the good beach - which by the way has great snorkeling.
2. The nickel & dime you. We stayed in a Regency Suite paid for by my faincee's company which I'm sure cost a pretty penny. And they still want you to pay $15/day to use the gym, $9.99/day for wireless etc. Just tack on an extra $30 to the room & say its free. Feels so much better right!?
3. You have to get a bracelet to use the water slide? Can someone please tell me why this is necessary? It makes no sense to me.
4. You have to show your 'passport' to get a bracelet. Is a room key not enough? Why must I carry around this piece of paper in a zip lock baggie? It makes me crazy.
5 There is something very wrong w/ the sausage & bacon at the breakfast buffet. Do they spray it with liquid smoke? Other than that the breakfast is pretty good.
6. I'm told the Italian & Seafood restaurants are sub par but haven't tried them.
7. A glass of champagne in the bar costs $18
8. Spat's - don't get me started. The 'night club' here.
a. requires men to wear long pants & close toed shoes. IN MAUI!
b. They want a $15 cover to get in, even if you're a guest. Even if you're part of a group that is paying for 50 rooms here. Craziness.
9. The penguin habitat - Penguins in Maui?? CMon, its just cruel.
10. Luau - I'm not sure can get a non cheesy Luau but this one is pretty over the top. The fire thrower at the end was the best part but he dropped the stick several times :( The MC was brutal, food was so-so & atmosphere felt like a cruise ship performance.
That being said, the rooms are very nice & they did move us between rooms (after we had to give up the pimp suite) and even moved the things from one fridge to the other. Staff is very friendly.
Still - wouldn't say here again unless it were free :)
