From the moment the valet opens your door to the moment you check out, the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza is one heck of a hotel!

Be warned, this is one of those hotels where the staff treats you as if you're gold. They open the doors for you. They all say hello and smile. Ask a question and you'll get an answer and more. Come up with a crazy request, they'll take care of it. You're paying for it, but hey it's worth it.

Special bonus: they have self help check IN and check out. You swipe your credit card and it spits out your room key. You can even pick the floor level you want to stay on. Not bad at all.

Special bonus points: sure, they have soap and moisturizer for ya but they also have a new tube of toothpaste... something I always forget to bring!

Like most others have already posted, the parking is a rip off. You can self park for $24 per day, but you have to cough up the $24 upon each re-entry. Your other option is to fork over the $33 daily for valet. Parking in the nearby mall may be an option worth checking out, surely with all the hotels, malls, and biz offices w/in walking distance, there MUST be some kind of work around.

I noticed a lot of little things that you shouldn't notice in a 4 star hotel, broken floor tiles in the elevator area, a lack of attention to details when it comes to housecleaning.

Luckily I got a really great rate by naming my own price with "the Negotiator" something I only do if I can get a 4 star hotel for under $100 bucks a night. I think I may have paid $125 a night because nothing was coming up for me for cheaper, and it was a biz trip, so I was still saving the company a good amount of money over the nearly double regular nightly rate.

Another bummer was returning for a quick stop in the afternoon to find the Starbucks in the lobby closed up for the day -- since I was on the run the whole time, I looked forward to the prospect of coffee before heading back out again.

I didn't get room service, hardly stayed in my room, and made it a point to shop at least once at the nearby Ralph's for some supplies; Lara Bars, apples and caramel dip, water, and various beverages, absolutely worth the stop to avoid the mini-bar charges as much as possible.

Pool area was nice in the early mornings and open till 10pm, so even with all my running around I was able to hit the whirlpool and do some poolside email.

I would have been disappointed if I paid full price.

Pros: Airline check-in kiosk, self check-in kiosks -- although I may have had a chance at a room with a view had I spoke to a person, but I just wasn't in the mood for human interaction at check-in. Comfortable bed, nice TV, decent cable channel selection, strong cell reception, package deals for Internet access. Pool set up and hours.

Cons: Starbucks closes early to mid-afternoon, view can be pretty bad if on a lower street facing level, overprices parking, forced valet, room service looked more expensive than usual. Location wasn't as ideal as I had imagined.

Would not stay there again. Nope. Not even on biz.

This is a classy property smack in the middle of the business district of Century City. Gorgeous and elegant interior design of public areas. The rooms are also tastefully elegant and beautiful. It seems this property was renovated within the last few years since our room had a huge flat screen TV, marble bath, and excellent bed. The room was spotlessly clean and equipped with high end furnishings.
Service was friendly and quick as well.

The biggest gripe about this property is the exorbitant parking rates of 24 dollars a day with no in or out privileges. That is purely asinine. For 33 bucks you can get valet parking that has in and out privileges. I suspect they get away with charging such fees since there are few options for parking in the area.  Also, they charge 10 bucks a day for internet access. Which is another form of needlessly gouging a customer.

I really shouldn't complain much since I got the room for 100 bucks on priceline but gouging customers is gouging no matter how much was paid for a room. Is it worth the 225 buck rack rate? I don't think so if you also have to be gouged for parking and internet access.

Aside from parking and internet fees this is a very elegant property and is recommended for business or leisure.

Great service, very friendly, very fast, etc...  Rooms are clean, large, nice, whatever...  That's all to be expected of a 4-star hotel that charges you SO MUCH.

And therein lies my problem.  Not just that it's expensive (which it is), but that it tries to milk you at every corner.  For example, why is it that on top of the exhortation room rates, they have a ridiculous parking rate?  Guests don't seem to get a discount at all for parking.  $33 per day if you intend to move your car.  If you want to just give your car a nice home for the night, only $23 (I think)?

Tack on an extra $10 per day for internet.... Why?  They know they cater a lot to business people and they know that those business people have to have internet and will expense it.  Great!  But the rest of us can't expense it, and paying an extra $10 per day, on top of that room and parking, is just a kick in the head.

Do they have a gym?  Of course! These days, every hotel has a gym.  Is it free? No.  How about another $20 per day for the gym!  This one makes no sense to me at all.  Even if I were on a business trip, I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable expensing a $20 per day workout, especially in this economy.  So why not give it for free?  I mean, they don't even have to lose money on this one.  You're already charging crazy prices, why not just add an extra $5 to each persons bill, I'm sure less than a quarter of them will use the gym anyway, that way you give "free" gym membership and make even more more.  Stupid!

I just spent all of last week at this hotel. It truly is a nice, large, clean hotel, with big rooms and a super-comfy bed! However, I side with many other reviews on the belief that this hotel does seem to gouge the checkbook at every chance they get.

The rooms are pricey, but you can expect that when staying at a nice place in LA. So I had no problem with the room rates. The valet service is the only option you get for parking, in&out valet or 1-time valet. In&out valet is $33 day (plus tips whenever you get your car!). This can be very expensive if you make many trips throughout the day. The 1-time parking is $24/day (?) This isn't a huge deal, but you must realize the fact that the hotel is on the edge of Beverly Hills in a business district and there is literally nothing to do within walking distance.

Other tiff's you might find are theres no free coffee, but there is a starbucks on the ground floor where you can get your java for $1.85. And other than that it's pretty basic.. I didnt spend anytime eating/drinking at the hotel (Honestly, who would?! you're in LA!!) so I cant comment on that.

But if youre looking for a clean comfortable hotel with no concern for budget, this is a great place.

Love the location and the outdoor dining/lounge options (reviewed separately).  Rooms are high-end, comfy, and quiet.  Room service food is exceptional--their bagels/lox is the best I've had outside of NY and I had to post a photo! (-:

My only beef is the $20 charge for use of Equinox.  If I'm paying $400/night, I don't expect to be nickel/dimed for an offsite health club.  Not cool.  Also, four busloads of Japanese golf tourists checked out at the normal checkout time and we had quite a wait--a head-up from the staff would have saved us a lot of trouble.

The best thing about this hotel is the architecture and the history. Also a great location because its in the center of century city and half a block from the shopping center.

Sure there is a luxe bar/louge but the hotel is nothing special. Bathrooms are not well kept, they were actually dirty when I went...toilets were not functioning properly.

The people are super nice and friendly.

I LOVED this hotel! The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, and the bathroom spacious. I stayed for a combo work/pleasure trip was not disappointed.

The best thing, though, is the location. It's a short drive to the heart of Bev Hills, right next door to Century City Mall (a cool outdoor shopping plaza where you can easily spot a celeb!), great pool and spa options, and a chill patio lounge.

The hotel is also right across the street from CAA (one of the, if not THE, best known Hollywood talent agencies) and Craft (Tom Colicchio's restaurant - delish!!!).

Since staying, I have seen this hotel is a few movies - they film a lot here. When I was there, they were filming a CBS drama by the pool (can't remember the name).

There is also a Hertz rent-a-car on site, which is ideal if you decide last minute to rent a car (like I did).

Ahhh. . . .What's better than taking in a deep smog-filled breath while enjoying a smoggy view of downtown LA?  Really, though . . .I truly enjoyed the generously-sized balcony; just one of the nice features of this beautiful hotel.  They also have such fluffy-fluffy down pillows, and I napped and slept like a rock.
But, I am starting to wonder why every hotel we stay in lately has a giant mirror in direct view of the bed . . . even in this fancy place!?  I may have to start booking our rooms.

Hooray for Priceline! 4 star hotel for only $105/night, what a steal.

Really nice rooms with comfy beds & fluffy pillows. Great view of the pool area -- too bad it wasn't hot enough to take advantage of that. Excellent service! New towels were promptly brought to our room on several occasions, housekeeping called to ask if we wanted them to come since we had the "Privacy Please" sign on our door, and the valet attendants brought us bottled water when we stumbled out of our car after a long night of partying. Only downside is that the walls are thin -- hearing people slam the balcony doors shut sounded like an earthquake!

You really can't go wrong here.  we got it via Priceline, like many others, third time staying here.

Nice large rooms, comfy beds, nice pool area.  Access is available to Equinox Spa.

Minus - overpriced, not that great food in the lobby.  Service in the lobby wasn't that great either - we said Cash - she charged our card anyways...not cool.

Pretty well located for a Beverly Hills/Hollywood weekend.

Piss elegant opulent luxury!  After a long drive in from the airport, compounded by a monster traffic jam at 3 PM that knocked off my Getty Center visit, I arrived here yesterday in a foul mood.  Across from the Westfield Century City mall, this property is just off busy Santa Monica Boulevard.  Being on the Avenue of the Stars is a classy address and a positive mood-changer.

As a member of their free Gold Passport program, I snagged a free night anywhere in their network and opted to use it here.  Might as well maximize the freebie, right?

Rates run around the $230 per night so I was expecting to be put into a broom closet or by the housekeepers' break room.  Instead, they put me in a lavish room that was "standard" by HRCP metrics.  Flat screen TV, huge bathroom with granite and marble, a huge four-door closet, huge mirrors everywhere, and a spare comforter rounded out the effects.  As Ferris Bueller says:  "Choice."

All of the rooms have a full balcony that have a table and 2 chairs on it - being a classy guy, I sat in my wifebeater and track pants letting the office wonks across the street stare at me.  Eat it up, boys and girls!  (Kidding - I don't wear track pants.  They were Daisy Dukes.)

The hotel is huge with 726 rooms - divided into North and South wings, you can either face another modern glass building (the CAA) and see downtown LA in the distance OR see the Hollywood Hills.  The lobby is modern mid-century modern (does that make sense?) - think of the MCM style but with stuff that's all newly manufactured.

Internet (wired or non) runs $10 for one day, $17 for two, and $25 for three days.  Valet parking is $33 per day with in/out privileges; the valets are decked out in red Beefeater coats and a top hat, which doesn't seem to fit in thematically but you definitely know who the valets are.  Self-parking at one of two buildings behind the hotel run either $24/day or $35/day.  No in/out privileges there.

The front desk was gracious and welcoming.  He confirmed that I was using my Faster Free Night promotion and ran my credit card for incidentals.  His high professionalism was on display when didn't talk down to me since I was using a free night.  No onsite gym but the Equinox Gym and Spa is next door and a day pass is available.  You know they are "la ti da" when you see they have valet there, too. (Rolls eyes).  Heard you can snag this swankienda for a $99 rate on Priceline at times.

To channel more Ferris Bueller:  For the night, I am Abe Frohman, Sausage King of Chicago (in LA).  Its good to be Abe.

I stayed here for a conference last week and was not disappointed.   Boring area between all them finance related tall buildings.  However, the rooms were spacious, comfortable beds, and the meeting facilities were good.   Hotel food decent, though overpriced.  I didn't get a chance to check out the pool but the outdoor bar area was pretty decent.

My only complaint is the stupid $7.50 charge you incur for "package handling" when you get a FedEx (small package) delivered.

sure this is a nice hotel to stay at, but is it $200/night nice???  i personally don't think so.  don't get me wrong, the hotel was super clean, the staff incredibly friendly, and the rooms nice and spacious, but those are things that are EXPECTED when you're paying so much for a room.  i guess my beef with the place is that there was nothing beyond the expected that i got out of my stay here.

with that, i would recommend the century plaza for people who either (1) have money coming out of their ears, or (2) have a company cc to expend costs on.  otherwise, i would recommend looking into other hotels in the area that are far more elegant than the cp.

Found a great deal on Priceline and subsequently upgraded upon check-in.

Enjoyed the patio attached to our room. Had a nice view of the building across the street and a fountain.

Comfortable bed and pillows.

Tub was smaller than expected.

Disappointed that pool area was shaded in the afternoon.

Abstract art hung on silvery / black walls in the darkly lit hallways.

I have a friend in Asia who loves food as much as I do.... I haven't seen her in yonks and as fate would have it LA would be the place to meet after 7 years!

I wanted to stay at a hotel that was close to shopping and food so I decided on the Hyatt.  I liked that it was connected to Century City Mall.

The room was sleek, modern and clean.  There was a 23" flat screen TV (my only complaint about that was that there was no Food Network station - why?!!!)

Hotel staff were courteous and efficient. Apparently they were going to have a power outage between 12am-5am and gave us glowsticks "just in case." I couldn't care less about that time since I would be asleep but my friend is a night owl so the glowstick came in handy for her when the power went out.

She has also never seen the electronic sensor refrigerator before and was curious like a 5 year old - she opened the door and knocked over a few cans! I called the front desk to let them know about the accident and they said they would take care of it.

When we checked out we saw that they charged us for the cans that we knocked over but when she explained what happened they promptly removed it from the final bill.

I really enjoyed my stay here - the whole staff was attentive and service was excellent. A great place to stay and I will definitely be back!

This is a really nice hotel and thankfully priceline hooked us up. =) We were going to a NYE party around this area and needed a place to stay. He checked priceline, bid on a hotel and we got this for a good rate. SCORE!

We checked into the hotel and they gave us a room on the 18th floor, one floor below the penthouse. SWEET! The room itself was spacious, the bathroom was a good size and the view from our balcony was really nice. We had a view of the pool which looked really pretty. We ordered room service which as usual is always pricey. But the food wasn't bad and it came about 10 mins prior to when they said it would. I had the chicken sandwich and he had the burger. Not bad, really - but yes it was pricey.

This is a really nice hotel and it's super close to the Century City Mall. Oh and there is a Starbucks in the lobby so that is convenient. The service was good and it was great because we were able to have late checkout the next day.

It's a nice hotel and I had a great stay here.

GORGEOUS! I purchased this online through priceline and I got such a great deal on it! This place was so nice and the beds were comfortable I took several naps.  I brought my sister there and some friends of ours for her 18th birthday and we did the whole hollywood thing. The hotel itself wasn't too close to the area we were heading too but it didnt matter to us. The staff were so nice and attentive they brought us room service and they even gave my friends daughter a complimentary dish (mac n cheese) The night manager was soooo sooo nice and he was the one who asked her if she wanted ice cream or dinner. We had a balcony (I think all rooms do) and it was nice just sitting outside breathing in all that smog!

The waiting/lounge area was huge and very comfortable. The pool area had cabanas and I believe there were two wading pools (maybe 3) and of course they had regular swimming pool. They have a fine dining resturant call Breeze and unfortunately we did not eat there I did hear it was delicious though.

The only problem I had was the parking.  I ended up having to pay twice because the self parking was another company and the valet guy did not tell me if I left I would have to pay again, so that was irritating I know I will always get valet now!

I had low expectations when I saw this Hyatt from its website. But we were here in LA for a wedding and wanted to stay close to the bride and groom so we ended up here.

However, let's just say the exterior of this place doesn't do it justice. For upon arrival I was taken away by the lovely cabanas and pool area within the hotel compound. And did I mention their lovely gym and classes too? OMG I also discovered the Club room (free for Diamond members :)) where they served us wonderful breakfast, food and drinks all day. Super! We had a lovely stay here.

The Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel & Spa is the hotel by which I grade all other hotels.

I've stayed here about 8 times in the last year and while I could go on and on about the comfy beds, pool side lounge (where they were filming an episode of CSI Miami my 1st time here) and good restaurants, what sets this hotel apart from others is the level of service.

For example, the last time I was there I left my laptop power cord at home so a coworker who was staying there as well left me her cord at the front desk.  When I went to the front desk to ask about the cord, they said it was taken up to my room.  When I went to my room the cord was plugged in and charging my computer. NOW THAT'S SERVICE.

And for you Reality TV fans (don't act like you don't watch!), the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza is a D-List Celebrity mecca.  Reality "Stars" I've seen thus far: Hulk Hogan (in the Hotel's Starbucks right after his wife left reading a book on relationships no less) and his no-good-NIck son, Audrina from The Hills (as I checked in last time) who is hotter in person and Whitney from the Hills (in the lobby bar) who while pretty, looks better on TV.

Tip:  If you eat at Breeze Bar get the Lamb, if you eat at the Lobby Bar get the Steak Sandwich and if you eat at the XBar get the slider trio

The Hyatt Regency is a really nice hotel, like most Hyatt's are!  The lobby area is welcoming with several couches and LCD TV's for your leisure.  The hotel reception is off to the left side, unlike most hotels where it's just staring you in the face when you walk in.

Our room came with a large, plush bed and flatscreen TV.  They have everything you need here.  I always get the best sleep at Hyatt's everywhere, this one was no different - their mattresses are awesome!

It is right next to the Westfield Shopping Center and close to Melrose so go get your retail therapy on if you want!  They are connected to the Equinox Gym & Spa - guests here can use their gym for $20 a day if they choose.

Gripes:
-  Service was just okay.  When we checked in the guy looked bored and wasn't friendly at all.
-  Internet is $9.95 for 24 hours.

Don't be fooled by any claims of HCP being "pet friendly."  They are pet-tolerant and that's about as far as they go.  I was told at check-in that Pugsly would cost a "one-time" pet fee of $30.  Turns out that it's one time per day.  We were expecting some kind of pet welcome kit, maybe a few treats or something, after reading about their self-touted Gold Pawsport Club.  No.  The waste container in the dog walking area was full the entire four days we were there--that's just plain disgusting.

Other than hurting Pugsly's feelings, HCP probably wouldn't merit more than two stars anyway.  The room service, though expedient, was mediocre for the prices.  The bed was far from comfortable.  Someones spa tub in an adjoining room sounded like a jackhammer coming through our walls.  We received several calls and knocks on the door from housekeeping attempting to deliver us other people's dry cleaning, foam bedding, and a crib.

The coup de gras came when I voiced this litany of concerns at checkout, frankly expecting some sort of compensation, say, maybe comping me that $30-after-taxes-surcharges-and-deliver-fees hamburger.  No.  The clerk merely apologized and jotted down notes on a pad, promising to take these issues up with housekeeping, etc.

It's nice to know that future guests will benefit from my displeasure.

I will never stay here again.  Next time we'll take Pugsly to the Palomar.  Maybe he'll get some respec' there.

Stayed here in January 2008 as it was being renovated and returned with some trepidation for a stay this weekend. This time around...wow! I must say that the renovations are great. A tip though: don't pay full price (duh!). You can get a great rate online and it'll be a steal thereby making the hotel exceptionally well-priced for the amenities. The rooms are nicely appointed and the pool / hottub area are a great weekend draw. Don't bother eating at the on-site restaurant though. There are so many fantastic dining options in LA. For example, Craft is located right across the street in the CAA building. The Century City shopping center and AMC theatres are located next door. I would suggest using the valet parking. It's expensive ($33) but considering that you get unlimited in/out and that there really are no other in/out overnight parking options, it's a worthwhile convenience.

Elegant.
A perfect setting for the Wine Warehouse spring tastings event.
Picture this:  1000 people on Cinco de Mayo afternoon, enjoying fine wines & spirits, as well as delicious food......all for free.
Thank you Edward, for inviting me.  It was my best Cinco de Mayo ever.
It was also my first time inside the Century Plaza, and it was impressive.  I've not yet stayed overnight, but now I've explored the grounds, sampled many of their food offerings, and experienced the service in various areas of the hotel.  It's five stars.

I won't valet my car anywhere, so I used the self-park structure behind the hotel:  Turn off Avenue of the Stars onto Constellation (next to the hotel), go down the little incline and turn in on your left.  Go straight ahead into the structure (the entrance on your right is for the MGM building).
You can park here for the hotel or for the mall.  It was easy access to the Hyatt  - just elevator to level 9 and walk across the ramp, and you're in front of the hotel.  No problem in platform shoes, haha.

Before heading into the event, we explored the gorgeous grounds (see photos). There's a lush green area next to the pools.  I expect there will be ducklings in those bushes at some point, 'cause we spotted two ducks in the largest pool....haha, their own private urban oasis (see pic).
Later, after the event concluded, I loved the night view of the MGM building from the pool area, with the huge lion lit up in the sky.  And the fireplaces in the hotel's outdoor lounge....lovely.

The interior of this hotel is all about chandeliers....they are impressive and they are plentiful.  As were the fresh flower arrangements.
The tasting event was held in a lower level ballroom-type area.  It appeared that every restaurant & bar owner and manager in LA was in attendance, as well as chefs, & managers from stores like Whole Foods & also specialty shops like *cough* Malibu Ranch Market.....
And by the middle of the evening, Edward's sis Aimie knew 900 of the 1000 people at the event, haha!  They followed her around in groups, like lemmings.  Aimie is an outgoing & charming girl and I think she should work for Yelp!

We sampled beers & wines, champagnes & liqueurs to our heart's content.  And vodka, rum, and tequila, oh my.....
There were even teeny one-gulp martinis for sampling.
And there were food tables set up by the hotel, where one was free to eat one's weight in such delicacies as brie & lamb chops.  And there was a steady stream of passed hors d' oeuvres.  The lamb chops were my fave, perfection!  There was a carving station for delectable roast beef.  And a sausage tasting, provided by the manufacturer.  An endless array of attractive foodstuffs.....

The service throughout the hotel was the best -  all the staff I encountered were friendly, professional, and efficient, as one would expect.

Among others, I met the manager of several top LA restaurants, with whom I enjoyed a lengthy post-event chat about the joys of Venice Beach.  So, great conversation with good company capped off the evening.
The tasting event had started at 3pm, so I headed home early, around 9, feeling like I had been wined & dined to the max in one of LA's most beautiful environments.

The Century Plaza is okay.  The hotel is clean and the rooms are nice.  The people however are in no real hurry to help you out.  From the bartenders in X Bar to the Hertz guy who took a 50 minute break and left the counter unattended, it isn't worth it unless you get a great deal on the room.

Swanky....

There's a bar in the Lobby...and poolside seating...

Within walking distance to the Century City Outdoor Mall...

Rooms are expensive as all-get-out, however...

Got a champagne taste with a beer budget? Then try Priceline-ing this place for about 40% the rate published on their website.  We did.

Vaguely familiar with areas of LA and always living my life by the motto "If it's too good to be true, it probably isn't", I was praying all the way down I-5 that this is not some ghetto hotel in a ghetto part of LA.

It couldn't have been far from the truth.

On the outset - impressive-looking building overlooking Avenue of the Stars in the posh Beverly Hills.  The lobby was ultra-swanky with the bar, flat screen monitors for self-serve check-in, glass doors leading to the pool dotted with little cabanas.

The hotel room itself was as modern as the rest of the establishment: flat-screen TV, sleek-looking contraption displaying overpriced mini bar snacks with a warning not to remove anything otherwise your account will be automatically charged (needless to say, said contraption was untouched throughout the entire duration of the stay), and comfy bed.

Love it.  A perfect way to start the summer holiday.

A mixed review.  I stayed here twice and I travel a lot.  The service was ok, the food was expensive and not very good at all.  For food, you're better off at the mall across the street.
You have to pay to get into their spa/gym Equinox.  They do have a pool and it's always full.  They need more than one hot tub and they need to ban kids from it.  The rest of their outdoor area is beautiful.  It looks like an outdoor room with a fireplace and everything-including live ducks who hang out around the couches outside and in the 1 foot pools.  Funny.

As for 4 stars-it's probably true except for the food, lack of decent room service selection and the sheets, towels toilet paper all feel like sand.  The TP and the facial tissues are al super cheap.  The towels feel like sandpaper and they don't have fitted sheets so I spent all 5 nights with my bottom sheet moving around.  The bottom sheet was not fitted?  I don't get it.  At least I was well-exfoliated by the time I woke up.

Valet is $31/day.  A day!

It was clean, sleek and new and it is very close to everywhere though so I will be back.  This time, armed with my own sheets.

This is a very nice hotel, but I'm not that familiar with the area surrounding it. It's easy to stay within your immediate confines when you're at a conference for work, and this hotel makes it even easier, as it's relatively self-contained. The meeting room area is well organized and not too far ranging, and the food service is quite nice. Impressive rooms with plenty of space and progressive online access pricing depending on how long you sign up for -- a nice touch instead of the standard $10/day pricing plan.

That said, would I spend my own money to stay here? Probably not, but as far as event venues go, it seems top notch.

UPDATE: JULY 26, 2007

i just came home after spending four miserable days at this hotel.  well, it wasn't the hotel's fault that i was miserable.  in fact, it probably would have been the same no matter where i was at.

however, it's this hotel's fault that i didn't get to yelp for the past four days.  first of all, the wireless in the rooms are pricey ($4 an hour) ... and super slow.  the lobby areas supposedly have free wireless but is worse than dial-ups ... ten years ago--i almost went postal trying to upload some files on tuesday night.

the food wasn't that good either.  i had room-service for breakfast and lunch for two days in a row (purely out of necessity) and couldn't take it anymore after that.  my college dorm had 1000 times better food than here.  then again, my college was ranked like #1 for "dorms like palaces" category for 2007 ... so quality of life back in the days was pretty good.  moreover, my breakfast ordered for 6:45 a.m. came around 7:20 a.m. and lunch ordered for 12:15 p.m. came around 12:40p.m.  the tardiness was consistent throughout and some people never ended up getting their food.

anyway, i stayed on the 11th floor and had poolside view which was basically a view of MGM building, AMC, and macy's.  nevertheless, my room was spacious and nice ... compared to my friends down on the 6th floor (designated smokers' floor) facing the street.  their rooms were small and not even as nice as many best westerns i've been to.

lastly, there is no free parking.  you have the option of valeting for $31 a day or self parking for $20 a day.

i'm sure most people who stay here aren't the kind of people who were there this week (poor, completely broke, and partly suicidal subsisting on caffeine and energy drinks) ... but after 4 days and some $1000 down the drain, i can't be happier to be back home to the love of my life--my dog!

*****

can someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE review this place?  i'll be staying here for few days later on this month and i really want (NEED) to know what to expect.

I attended a conference that was held here this week, and stayed for one night.  The conference area underneath is nice, and the lobby is beautiful.  I thought the front-desk service was good too.  The room was a little close, had no overhead lighting (all lamps and no light switch - a pet peeve I have), and the thermostat wasn't that responsive.  Also, the minifridge is full when you get there and has some sort of technology that senses when you remove something in order to charge you, so you can't just open it up and drop in a Coke from the airport.

While the staff at the hotel was friendly and anxious to help, the rest of the hotel experience was not what I hoped it would be.  I'm not a fan of 3 main things:
1. $33 a day for valet parking - you're better of cabbing it
2. breeze restaurant and room service - average quality with inflated prices
3. no free in room wireless internet access - I find it ridiculous to have to pay for getting online in the rooms.  needless to say, this review is being written from the hotel lobby.

All in all, a nice hotel that lives up to the Hyatt name, but if you want stay at a Hyatt, I'd recommend finding it's younger brother, Hyatt Place - free internet, no parking charge (usually) and free breakfast

I stayed here for a recent work conference.  The room was pretty damn nice and the staff very friendly.  Conference food being what it is they did a good job with the notable exception of the scrambled eggs.  Do the eggs come out of a hose and into a micorwave?  How do so many hotel chains F*up scrambled frickin eggs?

So yeah it was a pretty fine place to stay.  Would I spend my own scrill to stay there?  Hells no - go for a boutique hotel at the beach or in the hills.

I might not ever be able to afford to stay at a suite in the Century Plaza Hotel, but it's gratifying that the workers there still have to pretend to be nice to me.

A long time ago I was checking out hotels for a birthday extravaganza. I strolled into the lobby dressed in Gap jeans and a short-sleeve button down nerd shirt and asked the front desk dude how much a suite would cost. He looked at me with ICE IN HIS EYES but he managed a cordial, "Do you have a corporate account with us?" Of course I didn't, I was 23, stupid, and poor. I asked how much it would cost without a corporate account. He sighed, told me that it would be much more affordable with a corporate account, handed me a paper to sign along with a key to a suite on the top floor. He said I could check out the room and to return the key when I was done.

I turned around and smiled like a weasel. I took the elevator up, savored every step I took in the long walk to the very end of the hall, and flung the doors open to the suite. It was gorgeous. The walls, couches, floors, and fixtures were all a distinct lighter shade of brown. The bar was glistening with desire, the bed was lustfully plush. The giant windows faced the Pacific Ocean, and I had a perfect view of the sunset. I didn't regret not having a camera with me because I'll remember that view for the rest of my life. I felt like I was commanding the power of all the fantastically rich people who had stayed there before. It was an amazing experience.

Then I took a piss in the fancy toilet, remembered to flush, and left.

The front desk guy didn't even bother to look at me when I handed him back the room key. He was probably fully aware of every drop of my gratitude and it was undoubtedly making him sick.

THE CPH used to be THEE Place to stay, if you were a star, a dignitary, or a republican.  Today, its on its 3rd owner in less 5 years, and time is not on its side.  This place is like the $20 Bill you have hanging in office, which represents your FIRST sale.

Times have changed, as this old beauty has run its course.  Its been renovated umpteen times, but you cant recreate the magic when you have so many new modern properties popping up left and right.

Nevertheless, my favorite Century Plaza Hotel moment was 13 or 14 years ago.  The executive chef called and asked me for a favor.  He was hosting a cocktail party for his celebrity chef friends, including, Mr. Wolfgang Puck, and needed help with the menu and food service.  I was off to  the side, while my staff was busy cranking out service.  Then Puck came over and said, is this REAL DUCK.  I said, "YES SIR IT IS....."

CHOMP!  mmmmmmmm......Deeeelicious...... Thank you.

No Thank you Mr. Puck....it was my pleasure....

I will never forget that moment..... Mr. Puck said MY SHIT WAS DEEEEELICIOUS......

This place is fit for the President to stay, which is why it was cleared for security in order to let him do so.  The rooms are spacious and the ambiance is grand and immaculate.  There is even an underground dome for parties.  The wash room amenities include ginger shampoo, massage spa soap, and other stuff to pamper one's self with a memorable fragrance and/or experience.  The one thing missing is a great restaurant for the hotel.  Breeze is average compared to the rest of this grandiose establishment.

Considering I didn't  pay for this, I should be high fiving it all around, but SRSLY!?!?!? $300 dollars for a room and I have to pay $10 a night for internet, and $31 for parking my car!?

Uhm?

I'm staying at BEST WESTERN right now and all that stuff is FREE and my bill is $230 less every night!

That being said, the room is AMAZING, but like, I don't need AMAZING rooms, I generally just sleep in my hotel, not hang out.

They also had a breakfast available, which my parents experienced and said was nice (I was working before it started---love 6am in times!). I got a AAA rate, so I don't know if the breakfast gig is like, standard.

Anyways its a really great hotel, but like $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
