I got to the hotel a bit earlier than the gay boyfriend. We met up in Boston and so I dropped off my bag to concierge while I walked around Downtown. Actually, I never really made it past the front door. The doorman took my bag and gave me a tag for it. That's pretty spiffy since you have to take an elevator to their reception area.

Once we checked in, we found our suite to be acceptable though they took a really long time to bring the rollaway bed. Eventually they brought it after a couple of phone calls.

We found housekeeping to be terrible. They never replaced the toiletries and between two people over four nights, we just didn't have enough but fortunately, a girlie girl and a gay man have plenty of stuff between them to make up for the lack. We suspect the housekeeping staff were untrained because there was a huge "boycott Hyatt" trailer parked out front.

Once, they cleaned early in the morning, the next day, they were still cleaning at 5 p.m. when we got back to the hotel and then they tried to clean the room while we were still in it on the last day. I think hotels shouldn't clean until you check out.

But yeah, I did adore those doormen. One even walked my luggage all the way from the hotel to the Silverline stop (several blocks away).

Room service was okay. I had oatmeal and sausage one morning. The oatmeal was $5 and the sausage was $4. Not bad but why the hell was the pot of tea $8?? The gay boyfriend had some sort of omelette he said was too cheesy.

The mini-fridge is stocked with juices and waters which automatically know if you've taken one.

The sitting area of the room was interesting with a bookshelf. Some books were obviously bought by the hotel. Mostly old books with stickers from nearby colleges and some newer novels left by previous guests.

I found the shower to never get hot but the gay boyfriend said I must have turned the knob incorrectly as he found it way too hot.

For the location, we thought it was very convenient to everything and we'd stay there again. The room was about $1100 for four nights. We were able to upgrade to a suite because of the gay boyfriend's points and got the rollaway without an additional charge. We were also able to get late check-out. They offered us 3 p.m. which is really good.

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency when visiting Boston in January before I moved back to the city from San Diego.

My experience with the hotel staff was absolutely remarkable.  In the course of my stay, I somehow managed to fall and lacerate my L knee falling out of the shower!   While I was bleeding and unable to get to my feet, I reached for the hotel phone and dialed zero for the hotel operator.

Hotel security, the on-duty manager and several others assisted by calling Boston EMS and assisting them in getting to my room.   While I was being wheeled out on a gurney I asked for ice cream and late check out.  The management OBLIGED!  They let me check out at 5PM instead of noon and when the person at the front desk noticed that I had not yet consumed ice cream that she was supposed to comp from my bill!  She made me go have my ice cream in the lounge before she processed my check-out!

The elevators are a little weird, however: my room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the staff went ABOVE and BEYOND to make sure I still had the opportunity to rest after returning from the emergency department at Tufts Medical Center, which incidentally is just up the street from the hotel.

I stayed here because of a wedding in town. The price was high, but their AAA rate was significantly lower. It was clean, the bed was soooooooo comfortable, and they were all so friendly and polite. They also only changed the towels/sheets when you want in a bid for eco-friendliness. The hotel bar served as a good meeting place, the bartender knew what he was doing.

I don't know anything about this unfair employee business, which is worrisome. But as far as the rooms and staff there, it was a good experience.

Swaaaaaaank-y!

I actually won a free night with Hyatt with a promotional sweepstakes, so perhaps my opinion is skewed, but I really enjoyed my stay with this Hyatt. I stayed at a similar hotel across the street once, and this was LEAPS and BOUNDS above in quality. The rooms are decently sized (which can be hard to find in the downtown area), they've extraordinarily clean and stylish, the A/C works extremely well, and the overall experience was great.

The internet is NOT free, which is a bummer but seems to be the standard in Boston hotels, and the mini-fridge is priced a little ridiculously, but mehhh those are mere superfluous items. This is definitely a nice hotel and worth considering staying with when you're in Boston.

Wow 4 star really?!  DISSAPOINTMENTMAXIMUS!

Hyatt has this complicated elevator system where from the entrance of the building you have to take an elevator up to the lobby and then obviously take another elevator to you're room. Why did they have to make it uber complicated like that?! Anyways,

Checked in around 8PM, I requested a double bed but didn't have one so they gave me the king sized bed. Went to my room, pretty decently sized had the king sized bed, tv (non plasma) on top of the cupboard, desk, chair, and sofa chair.  I would give it a 2 star for decor not up to the 4 star standard by all means.

Next morning 8AM, I'm awoken by the housekeeping shouting Spanish across the hallway and vacuuming the rooms.  I realized the walls are way too thin and they positioned my room right in from of the ice maker room + housekeeping closet.  After being annoyed, went out that day+night and when I came back, I see that my room was not made.  I call the front desk and they tell me that if you did not leave the place by 10 AM and take off the privacy by 10 AM, then you will be exempt from room service.  All they could do for me was bring up fresh towels which basically didn't do much at all!

If you're an early bird and don't care much for the decor, stay here.  If you have already booked the Hyatt, make sure to request a room away from the ice maker and the housekeeping closet.

Stayed at Hyatt for the past 2 nights while visiting Boston. For $180/night, I was a little bit disappointed:

1. No free internet?! Even the paid-for internet speeds were unacceptably slow for a 4-star hotel in downtown Boston. I was disconnected at least 12 times within a span of 2.5 hours.

2. The alarm clock in my room was preset for 7am... Really? Is it that hard to make sure alarm clocks are turned off? Luckily, whoever stayed in my room didn't want to wake up at 5am or I woulda been triply pissed.

3. My room was right by the ice machine where you could hear people (especially drunk ones) all night long. There needs to be some kind of discount for a room with this type of locational issues.

4. There is no refrigerator, only a "refreshment center" which will immediately charge your room account when you remove an item. These items include $5.25 juice, $9 vodka, $23 white wine, $3.75 Oreo, $7 M&M's, $8.25 cashews, and many more great deals... "The refreshment centers are not intended for use as a refrigerator, especially for medications. A $25 restocking fee will be applied for emptying of your refreshment center."

5. No fan in the bathroom...to get rid of shower steam of course, not that I stink it up in there.

Stayed at this hotel for the Marathon this past April.  Great location, cool gym, and a nice room.

The front desk staff was pleasant and easygoing, but the Concierge, a woman whose name I forget at the moment, was unbelievably rude.  My boyfriend and I went to ask her a quick question about the marathon shuttle, and she literally glared at us, threw a piece of paper down on the desk, and acknowledged the person behind us, essentially dismissing us.

During the rest of our stay, we were there for 4 nights, 5 days, we had other questions but avoided asking them if she was there.  This woman was terrible and not an asset to the hotel at all.

____
Sidenote:  Marathon '08 we stayed at the Cambridge Hyatt and brought our bags over to the downtown Hyatt (with permission) to leave in their storage and pickup before heading to the airport.  When the bellhop went to retrieve our bags and put them in the cab he literally held out his hand expecting a tip from my boyfriend.  Sorry buddy, if you're going to act that way, you are not getting a tip.  He then proceeded to make comments at us and kind of jog after the taxi after we told our driver to go.

I've stayed at a lot of Hyatts all over. This one is one of the best.
I only con was its a hard find walking from the bus station. A polite lady directed us where to go and then it was easy to find.
The building is in a great location and the people working couldn't have been friendlier. I must give a shout-out to the nice gentleman working the front door. He knew everything. How to get there. Where to go. What to do. I never felt like the couple bucks I would give him was enough.
We booked thru a 3rd party, so usually you get the shaft, but they moved us to the 14th floor and gave us a beautiful room with a great view.
The bar in the lobby was very nice as well. The room was very clean and I would stay there again.

Pretty nice hotel, clean updated rooms. Easy check in and out, no complaints. The location was a close walk to everything, but not place you want to be walking around at night. Easy walk during daylight hours, but just cab it at night. The doormen are super helpful and friendly, and I wish I could say the same about the people at the counter , security, and the concierge. Our room key didn't work so security came up and said the battery was low on the door key device thingy. He told us we just had to bang on it a couple times and it would work. I asked, "shouldn't someone come by and change the battery so we don't have to go all the down to the front desk if this happens again?" He replies, "No, banging on it should work." Um, OK? Well, a housekeeper close by, heard the whole conversation (I think her name was Lucine), was took it upon herself to call and have the batteries changed by maintenance. Um, how nice! She should be the one teaching the rest off the fools here what customer service is!

So we come back after a long day sight seeing, (the only sunny day in weeks so we were told) and wanted to sit outside the hotel bar, Avenue One. However, we were told it was "closed today due to weather." Why? Too sunny? She had no answer. Whatever. Just like other hotel bars, the drinks are overpriced and not very good. However, there was nothing close by, and we didn't want to pay for a cab in search of a bar, just to have to pay for another cab back.

Don't stay here if you are into nightlife, but for some daytime sightseeing, great location for the price.

We held our August 29, 2009 wedding (both ceremony and reception) at the Hyatt. We selected them for the value they offered and the beauty of the ballroom, we had no idea what wonderful service we would also receive! It started from the time we signed the contract through to some follow-up items after the wedding. Jennifer Nicholson was absolutely wonderful to work with, I had no concerns about leaving things in Jennifer's hands, everything was taken care of exactly as Jennifer and I discussed. The venue itself is beautiful and the food, the food was delicious. I often wonder how the food will taste when prepared for a large volume of people and it was just as good as it was at our tasting! We had several guests and our vendors comment to us how nicely they were treated by the staff at the hotel. I would absolutely host another even there.

The Good:
Awesome bed and pillows.
Very nice staff and friendly.
Close to china town

The Wierd
Strange layout of rooms and odd shapes.

The Soso
We had the breakfest plan,  ate in the resturnat three times.  Service is ok at best.  the buffet is ok, food was sometimes cold when it should be hot. Some items not stocked very quickly, order off the menu if you can.
Expensive for the breakfest otherwise at $26 for buffett.

The bad
Area is still a litte unsafe at night, there is a drop in shelter about a block away so you will see beggers.
Parking $44 a night, ouch.

Got a room on Priceline and, for what we paid, it was  a great deal.

The entrance is weird, you have to go downstairs and take an elevator to the lobby, and then another elevator to the rooms.  The room was basic, but nice.  Too hot, though, despite me turning the A/C on full-blast.  Wasn't crazy about the featherbed, but whatever.  It was a clean, comfy, and convenient place to crash.

I went to the grand opening of the terrace tonight - near the avenue in the hotel. the event was lackluster, a few nibblits of fish tacos floating around (i really dislike that name due to the other meaning behind it).... and the drinks were on the $$$$$ side for what you got.

That being said, however, I think this place has real promise. I really like outdoor venues for the summer time, and although it is not flashy, it is hella convenient to a lot of different things, and the tables were comfy, or it would just be a good place to mingle around. I think they're going to be having live bands on certain nights in the future, but don't hold me to that b/c i'm not 100% sure!

Scenario: our first Boston July 4th. Years of watching the Pops at the Esplanade on the boob tube. Decision: lets go watch the fire works live! Problem: don't want to fight traffic and get home at 2:00 in the am. Solution: stay in Boston!

Following several searches for a "cheap" (a relative term) hotel in central Boston, went to Priceline and was able to score an excellent rate at the Hyatt. The check in and service was impeccable and the room was comfortable (killer bed and linens). Only complaints: the pipes in the bathroom moaned off and on throughout the day and night. The set up on the lower floors is a little odd. You enter at street level and proceed via elevator to the third floor to check in. No biggie, just a very slight inconvenience.

Had fun, enjoyed the fireworks and got to our room in a decent amount of time. Perhaps we've started a new tradition!

I usually go on Yelp at the end of a day to unwind and be alone without anyone bothering me and to blow off some steam of which I have a lot. Usually I don't give up my secret places in Boston which I love and keep to myself and my gang.
But I've grown fond of some Yelpers so I will share a little.
(I know BFD)

THe Hyatt Regency in Downtown Crossing has a great bar. They call it............drum roll..........THE LOBBY BAR.
yeah no imagination but whatever.

This big giant room has tons of couches and comfy chairs, great drinks, and
FREE FOOD every day from 4 to 7. They also have music sometimes. No one is ever there and it is very nice.
Now don't tell anyone this part.
I'm serious.
Wear a bathing suit under your clothes, sneak into the elevator up to the pool and walk in behind someone with a key and you won't believe the giant beautiful pool and hot tub. Towels. Locker room.
Drink, Swim, Drink again and screw out the door. yeah baby it's the little things in life. No one has ever said a thing. I think it's because of how good I look in a speedo.
or not.
Check this one out people. You'll Thank me.

The service at this hotel was simply awesome.  Although I was not able to check-in in early the morning (the hotel was sold out the night before), the staff did help set some reasonable expectations on a check-in time -- and they called me when the room was ready.  My first room was supposed to be a non-smoking room, but for some reason it was filled with the smell of smoke.  The staff apologized and quickly got me into a different room.  It's not their fault personally (this is something we should all remember), but let them work out a solution for you -- I did that and got favorable results.

On the morning of departure, I had to leave the hotel before 5am -- but I woke up so late that I only had 30 minutes for breakfast (I had a voucher).   The manager coordinated with the room service staff and had everything in my room in 15 minutes, and then got me a cab in the next 15 so that I could get to the airport on time.

Is that real service or what?

Even though the hotel is in the middle of the financial district, which means that at night there's not much going on -- but I would still come back knowing that the great service will be there.

Disclaimer: You should completely disregard this review as I have not a) stayed in any of the Hyatt's rooms b) experienced any of the hotel's service c) dined or drank in any of the in-hotel establishments and d) actually stepped foot into this building.

However, I could not help but share an interesting story of a night out, ending with this Hyatt Regency. My friend Kell and I were in the area one Friday night (the Alley, Tremont St.) when we ran into Dane Cook, who was filming in Boston.

Being the self-conscious (yet semi-insane) fans that we are, we proceeded to subtly stalk and follow the incognito comedian, until he ran into the lobby of this Hyatt, safe from our drunken and crazed eyes.

Five stars for that experience alone.

I have never stepped foot into one of the rooms at the Hyatt, but I am very familiar with their ballroom.  I have been there many times for stuffy, boring work events. I usually end up trying my hardest to not over booze it around my bosses, but still have enough so that I don't want to poke my eyeballs out with my knife after I am done with my work-sponsored mass produced chicken dinner.  That being said, the bartenders usually have a great pour and the food is pretty good (especially the appetizers if the event is classy enough to spring for them) for being a work event.

I also, on occasion, make it to this Hyatt to give blood and it is always a wonderful experience.  The Hyatt has one of the nicest ceilings in the area.  There are pretty intricate chandeliers (who knew so many crystals would be missing), inset in the ceiling and framed with gold.  It is very nice to look at while lying on the bed giving blood and keeps my mind off of all the blood and needles around me.

I'll preface this by saying I prefer hotels with character/charm over flashy 'modern' touches like blue light bulbs out front.

My wife and I made our quarterly sojourn into the city to pretend that we were someone other than parents with such mundane concerns as grocery lists and school lunches.  This trip was planned on the spur of the moment and William Shatner popped into my minds eye calling me a 'namby pamby' so I hopped onto priceline to book my hotel (I guess the advertising works!!).  I was initially pleased to find that the Hyatt was the four star hotel that accepted my bid of $100 per night.  I had seen it tucked down the street from the Paramount many times but never stopped in.  We usually plan these trips a bit more in advance and I am a big fan of the Parker House but from speaking with friends I figured the Hyatt would be on par.

We splurged a little bit this trip and actually used the valet parking and ordered room service 3 times (the kids can eat bologna sandwiches at school next week) but the hotel was actually a disappointment.  Everything started out well, friendly valet, helpful receptionist, knowledgeable bellhop, but that is where things went gently downhill.

We got into the room quite late, just before midnight, and the first thing I like to do is rearrange the honor bar by removing all of the $5.00 Pepsi's and $7.00 Budweiser so that I can make room for the Diet Mt Dew that perpetually travels with me.  I didn't notice the small sign that said moving the products would result in an immediate charge to your bill.  Apparently there is some sort of electric eye/pressure sensor thing that can determine when things have been moved.  The good news is that the flawed system only detected the removal of a ginger ale so I didn't have an extra $80.00 on my bill for rearranging the fridge.  The other small letters on the door of the fridge explained a $25.00 restocking fee if you removed their products to chill your own.  I went ahead and just paid the $5.00 for the ginger ale.

The room was larger than what we have stayed in at the Parker House but the bed was nowhere near as nice.  This bed was actually compatible with my bed at home.  The high speed internet access was $9.99 per day for wireless (I saw a data port on the desk but I didn't have a LAN cable with me so I don't know if it was hot).  I could not get the fan on the A/C system to stay running (I sleep better with some white noise), and the faucet on the tub ran perpetually.

The room service for dinner at midnight was not terribly prompt but I ordered calamari and my wife ordered a chicken Cesar salad so I have to assume that it took a few minutes to prepare the calamari.  I am assuming that the room service kitchen has nothing to do with Avenue One, the hotels restaurant.  I want to believe that limp, cold calamari would not be something turned out by a kitchen that advertises an "executive chef".  The breakfast room service was 6 cups of coffee, a dish with around 10 berries, a muffin, and a croissant.  Total price....$34.00.   I guess I learned a lesson there.

On a positive note, it is in a wonderful location with attentive staff, and there is no extra fee for canine guests.

If I had paid the full price I would be very disappointed but it was worth it for what we spent.

Nice place! We stayed here for a weekend in January, and by using http://Priceline.com, we got a room for the ridiculously low price of $63 a night. Totally worth it for that price. It's a four-star place, so what do you expect? The beds are really comfortable pillow-top mattresses. I didn't experience that "new place" insomnia I get with some hotels. I just fell right asleep. The hotel is right downtown, near the theaters, a shopping district, and on the same block as the Downtown Crossing stop on the T. Every staff member was courteous, friendly and helpful. People have said it's in a dirty neighborhood. It's not, but what makes it weird is that the first three floors of the hotel, about, are a parking garage, so there are no windows. Just concrete. This is odd, and means you do have the odd experience of switching elevators to get the guestrooms.

A few complaints: I couldn't find the soap, so I went and bought a bar. It turned out to be in between the two shower curtains. Tricky. Also, there's only ~25 tv channels, if that's an issue for you. Also, the promised iPod speaker system was not in the room. We wouldn't have used it anyway, but just so you know...

Overall, we had a great experience. I'm going to give it 4 stars because, despite how nice it really is, the regular prices for a room are insane! I would either go through http://Priceline.com for this place, or go somewhere else. There have to be some better deals around. This is 5 Stars if you go through Priceline.

Stayed here a little while back, had a great time. This place is a couple blocks off the Common in Chinatown and we were able to get a really decent rate for a weekend night's stay. My friends came over and we had a rager - I remember the staff physically pulling a friend of mine off the piano in the bar, and then later a few more of our friends were chucked out of the hotel because of a drunken wrestling match we were having at 3 AM. The security people said they had to comp the rooms of everyone around us because of the disturbance. That's good business! Also some furniture was tossed off a balcony that night onto the roof of an adjacent building. Good times.

Overall we were happy with the Hyatt Regency Boston although there were logistics problems with check-in and communication with front desk. Here are bullet points of our experience:

The Good:
* GREAT central location.
* Indoor Swimming Pool (although somewhat small) was great for kids and had a lap area roped off for adults.
* Staff were extremely nice.
* Comp breakfast came for one person with room and offered an assortment of fruits and pastries, coffee and juice -- all were fresh and service was friendly.
* Room was clean and comfortable.

The Bad:
* We booked with another family, two adjoining rooms, and paid with separate credit cards for each family. One Family wanted a room with a king bed and rollaway. The other family wanted two doubles. They mixed it all up and charged the wrong credit card for each room (one of us was staying 3 days, and one 2 days). They said we fixed it, but on check-out it turned out the problem was not resolved.

* Front desk entered the wrong expiration date for our credit card and left a message on our hotel phone saying our credit card had been "declined" and that they had tried it several times. This necessitated calls to our credit card company which uncovered the fact that the front desk had put in a different expiration date than the one on the card. It took time out of my vacation to research and fix this.

* They forgot to clean our room one day and we did not get new towels or anything. When we called about it they seemed to think we had declined service for the day, but this was not the case. They did immediately bring up fresh towels and would have cleaned room at that time (it was evening) but we told them to skip it.

* The hotel is somewhat pricey for a family. Considering the price of the room (expensive) I would not have anticipated the logistical problems.

I would have given Hyatt three stars due to the check-in problems, but considering the great time my family had in Boston (and the location and pleasant atmosphere of the Hyatt were a part of that), I am going to go ahead and give it four stars.

BTW - Boston was AWESOME...what a city!

Went here for a wedding - it's a really nice place much nicer than I thought but once open bar ended it was $10 for a mixed drink that was the size of a dixie cup.  I guess there's nothing you can do about that - but if you have a wedding here have some mercy on your guests and continue to foot the bill for them.  Food was excellent, the rooms were very nice as well.  Good location to go bar hopping afterwards also.

I stayed here recently for a wonderful weekend and this hotel just made the visit even better. My best friend and I had a great room- quiet and comfortable. The bed was just right. Even the armchairs in the room were pretty cozy! The bathroom was pretty nice, what you would expect for a hotel like the Hyatt. The concierges were really helpful and even got us some last minute reservations. The restaurants and bars they recommended were great. The included breakfasts were tasty and pretty fresh, for a buffet, including lots of fruit. To top it off, we had massages in the hotel gym one morning....absolute heaven. I've had plenty of massages before and this one was among the best. The massage therapist even picked up on a past ankle injury, noting that there was some scar tissue and telling me about some exercises I could try to strengthen it more! I would love to stay at this Hyatt again- the location is great, close to everything and even closer if you take into consideration public transit in Boston being good.
