Review from Dani S.
Rowland Heights, CA
Newly remodeled as of 11/15/2011.
Scored a deal on Travelzoo for Thanksgiving weekend. The hotel looks very new, airy, open, clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was huge, with a balcony, a fridge, large flat screen TV and a big bathroom too. Lots of counter space for all my primping "equipment", a girl's gotta look good!
Free breakfast included: fresh fruits and pastries. Location is great: walking distance to the beach and shops, also easy access to public buses. -

There are two entries for this hotel, so copy/paste from my other review until someone sorts it out :^)
================================================== =
Stayed for six nights, returned home this past Tuesday. This is on the quieter, eastern side of Waikiki, near the Zoo - and more importantly, near Kuhio Beach aka 'the ponds' which is my favorite section of Waikiki Beach. Location = +1 star.
They are still in the midst of construction. In fact I couldn't upgrade to a suite even when I tried since that tower is completely closed. Staff all around had much aloha which easily earns the place another star.
I don't stay on Oahu to hang out in my room. Having an old, run-down room encourages me to get out that much more! Okay, I'd love to stay here again when all is fixed up and the pool and restaurant areas are open, etc. Great location, great staff so having a renovated hotel will almost certainly be worth the updated prices that are surely coming this fall or early next year.
Lots of places to explore in this area. Take a walk down the shore towards the old natatorium and check out the fish down below, swimming in the reef which comes all the way to the sea wall. Close to the hotel is Lulu's which has an amazing breakfast for very decent prices! (Stuffed french toast, I can still taste it!)
It's a healthy walk to Lewers Street for shopping and restaurants. I recommend St. Germaine Bakery on Kuhio just past the International Marketplace for great morning treats or afternoon snacks - oh and Puka Dog for lunch close by too....Comment from Westley B. of Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach 8/31/2011

Okay it's not a 5-star hotel by definition, but I'm giving this hotel credit. The service was very helpful and friendly. Our room was kept neat and tidy and I'm a neat freak. From reading other reviews, I'm guessing we might have been lucky to have had a good housekeeper because I have no complaints. This isn't the Four Seasons, but it is well worth what you pay for! The location was great...about 2 blocks from the beach..it only took 30 seconds to get there! Our tour buses picked us up right outside of our hotel...sometimes at the Mariott across the street which was not a problem at all!
I read reviews and prepared myself for the worse. I even brought my own bedsheets and pillow cases. I did use them, but I noticed the bedsheets and pillow cases provided by the hotel were changed each day. They were clean. The air conditioner was loud. That was a big downer. We would turn it off in the middle of the night sometimes. As for the furniture..everything seemed outdated, but that doesn't make a difference to me since I normally don't use ANY hotel's dressers or drawers. The shower and bathroom were clean when we got there and clean each time we got back to our room. From older reviews, some people complained about odor. I didn't smell anything. We were on the 10th floor...not sure if that made a difference.
This place wasn't bad. It was alright in my book.Comment from Westley B. of Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach 6/21/2011

This is an inexpensive hotel. So don't expect mint condition everything. For its price ,you have a great clean place to sleep at every night. I just got back from there today and I would definitely stay there every visit.
Upon arriving, we checked in, got our keys and I inspected our room and it was nicely made. There were no bed bugs, nor did we get any bites during our stay here. The a/c is pretty loud, so turn it on in the morning before you leave for your activities. When you get back at night your room should be cool enough to turn off the a/c all night.
Yes there are stains on the carpet but, are you really going to eat or sleep on the floor??? It does get vacuumed daily, because there were a few times when we got back and the sand in our shoes and clothes would fall on the floor, but the next day it would be cleaned.
Schedule your activities downstairs with Josiah. He is very down to earth, and tells you how it is. He is also a singer and has a cd that contains music and lyrics from him. A true Hawaiian. Most places that sell the activities in Waikiki area will ask you to visit another hotel. Do not do this, it will waste your day, time, and could be a scam.
Save your money for activities! You really only need a hotel to sleep, and rest up. Unless you came to Hawaii to stay in your room and for its amenities, this place is a great place for low budget touring.
As far as construction, we had the city view and we didn't even noticed it. We were told right away during the check in that if it bothers us they can make arrangements, but there was no need.
5 stars for it's price and duty.Comment from Westley B. of Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach 6/21/2011

OVERALL RATING = 2 / 10
The LOCATION = 7
2 blocks away from the beach. For reference, if you open the window to your ocean-view room, you wouldn't be able to hear the beach.
Located at the south end of waikiki (the center is probably the best).
The ROOM = 4
View = 7
Bed/Bedding = 5
Bathroom = 2
TV - 1
The PARKING = 4
The ATMOSPHERE = 5
The SERVICE = 7
---COMMENTS---
View - "Ocean-view" but there's another hotel right in the middle of the view. So technically you can see the ocean.
Room - looked like Best Western
Bathroom - One major flaw; water pressure's very weak. Took a shower with water dripping on me.
TV - no free channels. have to pay for everythiing. The TV itself is probably from the late 80's.
Parking - $15/day, which would've been fine but the garage was pretty compact and spaces were kinda tight.
The APPEAL = 1
If I'm ever back in Oahu...
Even though it was cheaper, definitely checking out other hotels in Waikiki.Listed in: OAHU

WORST hotel EVER! Dirty & they nickel & dime u-$15 per day 4 parking, $4 a day 2 use the safe in Ur own room! Cant fit all the probs on here.
Also the pics mislead u-U will see NO ocean view from ANY of the rooms-1 side u'll see the ghetto-& the other side all u see is another hotel BLOCKING ur view of any ocean.
The rooms right when u walk in STINK! & r dirty! Not cause the maid doesnt clean but because the carpet is old & dingy & so r the comforters. I actually itched when I tried 2 sleep.
They get 1 star ONLY cause the staff was nice EXCEPT the old man @ the front desk he was rude & didnt know what he was saying.
He told us we had 2 park the car b4 we checked in-rode around the block to get to the parking lot & they said u cant park ur car till u check in-we go back check in & they told us the parking lot is full we had to go around the block to another parking lot which STILL charged $15 to park a day.
WORST part is that there is only 1 machine in the 1st parking lot on the 2nd floor, so I literally had to walk a BLOCK 2 the machine 2 get a ticket-then walk a block back to the 2nd parking lot 2 place the ticket on my dashboard. =(
You would think since they have TWO parking lots they would at LEAST get 2 machines....NO. & if u park in the 1st parking on the 1st floor u have to walk 2 the 2nd deck 2 buy a ticket too. smh
NEVER AGAIN.Comment from Westley B. of Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach 3/11/2011

If you not looking for the views of the ocean and not looking to spend $$$$ on a hotel room, this place would be ideal!!
I dont recall if there is room service other then the ladies that clean your room on a daily basis, they do have a restaurant downstairs that offers breakfast type meals and dinner also brunch specials
for a one bedroom one queen beed and a crib the price was not to bad way cheaper then the marriot or hyatt or anything basically on the front right next to the beach we paid about $1400 that was for a 5 day stay, parking not included for parking they charge $15 a day.
Majority of the cleaning ladies were filipino they were very nice, most of them spoke the Ilacano dialect (filipino dialect other then Tagalog), so we were ear hustling when we went to use the laundry service they had on level 2.
they have two pools found on level 3 both outdoors, and both can be seen from several other of the hotels, not heated.
since we went during winter the week of xmas the water was a lil cold both on the beach and in the pool imma say the beach water was about 65-70 degrees lil chilly pool water maybe 70-75 still lil chilly but coming from the bay area where the beach water is always 50 and below the water out here was refreshing haha but the days were hot around the mid 80's in DECEMBER wut da??? rained the last 2 days were were there but still it was in the high 70's
price $$ your gold here no frills but decent size rooms enough to fit a crib and a queen in and have a balcony to smoke or breath in that fresh humid air haha
service ***** very responsive staff except for the front where you drive up the folks by the receiving area kinda tell you have to move your car out the way even though they can see you lugging around luggage, stroller and a baby, lil rude if u ask me the main reception desk reps were professional and very helpful, activity folks also very helpful and responsive, maintenance ladies very responsive again fail on the front staff that meets you in front where you bring your car to drop off your luggage.
ambiance ** you can tell it is older but they try to keep it cleanListed in: Honolulu spots to hit up, Hotels, Motel, sleeping…

Review from Rey L.
This was our first trip to Hawaii with our daughter. Kind of spur of the moment to get our feet wet with travelling with her. Just to be fair, we accepted and understood what we were getting into when we found Ocean Resort on a last minute trip to HNL. I mean, it was under $100/nt for booking 3 days before our arrival, cmon?
The location of the hotel is great. Probably 200 yards from the family beach. For the price, the location can not be beat. It's perfectly situated on the south end of Waikiki, closer to Diamond Head. It's actually around the corner from Honolulu Zoo.
Here's the rub... when you find a hotel for under $100/nt (supposedly 1/2 off the regular rate), 200 yards from the beach, with 3 days advance reservation, for President's day weekend, IN WAIKIKI, don't expect much. It IS too good to be true. They initially checked us into a room with 2 twin beds. WTF? And no, they were not american twin sizes, these were european twins. I mean, if you put the beds together, they made up 1 regular, fat ass american, twin. The hotel is old. The room itself is older. Cracks in our shower as well as the balcony. Our balcony view wasn't the best, but, not horrific. We did overlook a beat up apartment but also the mountain side.
The positives were the employees/staff. They were very accomodating. The bell hop took care of our bags before we checked in. They were quick with changing our rooms when we told them of the twin bed issue. The housekeepers got us a crib asap. They were all very nice.
Don't get me wrong, we typically don't care too much for the room since we'll be out and about anyway. However, with us bringing our daughter, we DO have to spend more time in our room than usual. Especially with the time zone difference, she's in bed right after sunset.
Overall, we'll probably not be staying here again. I do recommend this place for those who will not need to do more than sleep and shower. 2.5 stars.Comment from Westley B. of Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach 3/15/2011

Dear Westley B.,
I did indeed contact guest services about the problems with my room, as did friends of mine who were staying in other rooms during the same trip. No solutions were offered for our problems (cigarette smells, mold, faulty locks, lack of privacy, general filth), nor were any of us moved to different rooms.
The service I received from the staff is as much a factor in my one star review as the incredibly filthy room I stayed in. Despite my efforts to broach my complaints in a friendly manner, I was given the "nothing I can do" runaround. If I had a roomier travel budget I would have checked into a nicer hotel after seeing my filthy room and being treated badly by the staff for asking for someone to vacuum and clean the bedclothes.
I never went without socks, took every precaution against getting bedbugs in my luggage, and pretty much didn't touch anything in the room I didn't have to touch, and thankfully I survived my stay. But I certainly didn't relax for a single moment and I didn't spend any more time in the room than was necessary for sleeping. If I were offered twice my annual income just to sleep one night in this hotel I wouldn't do it.

Pro: cheap, big rooms. Location isn't too bad. Some rooms have kitchenettets.
Con: kinda like a big motel 6. Rooms are very worn. No free wifi. Lots of street noise even on the 9th floor with the doors closed.
Verdict: okay if you get a great deal, otherwise there are better options in Waikiki. -

I am very proud to be guilty of a champagne taste on a beer budget and with this mentality you get smart and creative which will ALWAYS benefit the travel types. A lifetime goal that I have is to visit all 50 states in the U.S. and i am pretty damn close to getting to that goal. However, there are just some states that get me to come back more than once and Hawaii is one of them.
Hawaii can be and is an expensive destination to travel to but staying here is one of the best decisions you can make. The best way to travel on a shoestring budget is to not be set on any particular destination but if you find a smoking deal through travelzoo like we did, don't pass it up.
You are in Hawaii, you should only be "sleeping" here anyway. This is a stripped down resort that gives you the essentials. There is a mini fridge so that is perfect to stock up in items at the ABC store and save your leftovers to snack on the next day.
The location and price are indeed 5 stars. If you are an adventurous, easy going person/couple then stay here. Trust me! Staying here frees up your money to splurge somewhere else. You are also super close to the bus which is the best/cheapest way to get around besides walking. Really close to the beach. Extremely close to happy hour deals. AND if you dare you could walk all the way from the hotel straight up Diamond Head. We did it and it was amazing.Listed in: Jetsettin', Never question a good thing

This hotel isn't your 5 star luxury resort but nothing beats cheap, low rates and being only 2 small blocks away from Waikiki Beach.
Our room was clean and a good size for 2 people.
The beds are hard! They sink in the middle if they're are 2 ppl laying down. The pillows are
As flat as the walls. The tv has basic cable! So that's ok. We had a mini fridge too so don't forget to buy some groceries.
Yes everything is outdated but that wasn't a surprise for it's price. They are currently in their 1st phase of remodeling and are under new ownership & mgmt. So I'm here sure this place is gonna look (suite)!! I'm assuming rates will
Go up after construction is finished.
So as you stroll down to the beach from your hotel, you can hit up the ABC store and pick up anything you can possibly need.
All in all, we had a nice stay. We didn't stay in our rooms much during the day but it was good

This hotel is anything but a luxury hotel but you can't beat the price and the location. My friends were coming down for a visit so they were looking for an inexpensive hotel that had a decent location. Its two blocks up from the beach and close to a lot of the bars in the area. The hotel was under renovation when they stayed there so it was super no frills but the hotel should look nice after they are done. I assume there will be a price increase that goes with the renovations too. The staff was nice and if you're just looking for a place to crash you might want to look into this place.

2 star because the hotel is a little old and out of date, but 4 star for location. Two blocks from Waikiki beach and right next to an ABC Store (what isn't haha). -
Review from Alan Y.
Ocean Resort is FIVE STARS for price and location, two stars for modernity, cleanliness, and luxury. We spent a couple of days at the Ocean Resort in Waikiki, playing tourist for our staycation/vacation. Sometimes you just need a short break from staying at Auntie's or Uncle's house and wanna get away. Well, as long as you're not one to be tied down to a hotel for fun, you don't need a spa day or a luxurious pool at your hotel, then this is your place.
I admit, at first glance, the place looks like a rundown 60s hotel filled with Midwestern budget and a non-hip faction of Japanese tourists. And it is actually all that. But it's actually so much more. Ocean Resort is just steps to Kalakaua where you can enjoy taking a morning run up the Gold Coast towards Diamond Head, get your surf on at Waikiki Beach, enjoy luxury and ticky-tacky shopping within feet of each other, or bust some yokes at the local 24 Hour Fitness.
We got a Kama'aina discount and stayed in the Ni'ihau suite on the penthouse floor. Sounds pretty swank, but really just meant a kitchenette and a balcony with a view of Diamond Head and a sliver of the beach.
Location, location, location.
Price, price, price. -

At first I was hesitant to stay here after reading reviews from other yelpers, but being in Hawaii for the first time and not having a lot of funds... It was well within our budget.
The location is great, I don't mind that the view was of other hotels, but I still saw the ocean. It was only two blocks from the beach, and being in Hawaii I'd rather go outside and explore the surroundings than sit in the hotel and complain about what they lack.
I'm sure that the hotel has been established way before my time, from the old decor, uncomfortable bed, and extremely short showers. However, the place itself was still okay to me.
Parking is expensive and the lot was extremely small, but not many cars around. Learned that having a car for 3 days wasn't really necessary as there are trolleys around to take and shuttles that'll take you to and from the airport.
The man working the tourist table in the hotel was very friendly and helped my boyfriend and I book a luau and snorkeling trip with the time we had.
Overall, the stay wasn't a horrible experience. The staff was kind from when we say them. And if necessary, I wouldn't mind staying here again the next trip, but I'm sure I'll look at a different place just to change it up a bit. -
Review from Pete S.
3 word that describes DOES NOT describe the ladies of the night walking on Kalakaua but DOES describe this hotel: CHEAP, COSY, and CLEAN.
I made a reservation here the time I did the Honolulu Marathon a couple of years back. What memories. This hotel was close to the Zoo and the finish line, hence it was a no brainer that we booked it. It was not the cheapest of the group Hawaiian Air packages, but I believe it was the 2nd cheapest. It came out to something like $85 a night.
Once you get here and if you have a car, you will face some problems.. You will have to pay $12 for parking. That I can take. However, when the lot is full, they tell you to park at the Marriott parking structure 2 blocks away. Also, Paokalani is a one way street. You will have to come down Kalakaua to enter the hotel entrance. There is NO other way. Don't think about coming down Kuhio to avoid traffic because the entrance is just a tad south. I guess if you want to go against a one way street, you can try, but I don't recommend it!
The rooms are clean, modest, with a very loud AC. The structure is not very high so you will encounter a lot of noise. During the time of my marathon, I could not sleep at all because the windows were not isolated to noise. Other than that, the rooms itself was nice, staff is friendly.
Tip: Once you have stayed here, they will send you a card to become a club member so you can get their special rates. I would stay here only if I was really on a budget. -
Review from Ginger H.
I'm from Hawaii and have unfortunately moved to the mainland. When I return and I frequently do, I don't always stay with family/friends. Having said that, if you want a clean place to "sleep", that is inexpensive and GREAT location, THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY.
Additionally, there are a few free on-street parking spots if you know about them (local secret) and be sure to park at the Waikiki Banyan Hotel across the street for $10/day. The hotel parking here is horrible and its $19/day. When you get great deals at better hotels, you'll need to factor in very expensive parking fees.
DO NOT EAT HERE! Simply book here to sleep. Shame on you if you come to Hawaii and spend enough time in your hotel room that its amenities matter. MAC 24/7 in the Prince Kuhio is great for killer breakfasts and my favorite breakfast place is at the beach (1 1/2 blocks toward beach in front of pier) is Lulu's with open air seating and a killer beach view. Teddy's bigger burgers are around the corner and they don't suck... one of the best burger joints on the island.
Aloha! Enjoy Hawaii.... -
Review from A. L.
Folsom, CA
This hotel was a part of a package with Pleasant Holidays, so I thought it would be decent even though it was just their basic package. From the outside, it doesn't look bad either. It was also in a good location, and near a part of Waikiki Beach. It wasn't the most popular part of the beach, but still close and within walking distance. However, upon getting a quick glance of the room 404 after checking in, it looked a bit old. The carpets looked worn and had a few stains. There was a weird smell coming from the room too. The overall size of the room wasn't that large, but it had a nice balcony area (as with all hotels near Waikiki Beach). Nevertheless, I figured that in Hawaii, not that much time is spent in the room anyway. However, upon settling in the room, I had a closer look, and mainly did a check for bedbugs. I quickly noticed some dead bedbugs on the floor of the room. There were quite many of them too (and thinking back to the weird smell, some insecticide must have recently been used in the room). I wasn't going to wait around to find a live one. I quickly informed the front desk, and the front desk person really didn't seem to think it was a big deal at all. He said, "Oh, well for bedbugs, some guest must have brought them here. We don't normally have bedbugs here. We just have problems with ROACHES." Wow! Much better news there! Anyway, he asked if we wanted another room. Of course! We were moved to room 314. I did another inspection here, but didn't find any bedbugs immediately. However, the floor was really dirty. It appears that the staff really don't bother to clean the rooms well. The carpet still had leftover food and other trash from previous guests, and the toilet didn't appear to be cleaned at all. So anyway, we settled in for our 1 week stay in Hawaii.
During the week, we only stayed at the hotel to sleep. However, during the week, my girlfriend got what she thought to be a pimple on her chest. As time passed though, it became more and more itchy, like an insect bite. If this wasn't bad enough, she started to have an allergic reaction to it, with rashes developing on her arms and legs. We even had to call Kaiser over in Hawaii for medical advice. Finally, the day before we left, I discovered a live bedbug in the closet walking around. It was a baby one, as it was translucent and not dark reddish brown like the dead ones I found in room 404, but that didn't matter. It proved that the hotel was infested with bedbugs in multiple rooms and multiple floors. It basically meant all our belongings had to be sanitized when we returned home. We had to wash everything in hot water (as high temperatures kill bedbugs), and had to store all our luggage in huge tightly sealed plastic bags. They'll have to remain sealed in the garage for the next few months. What a mess this created for our trip! And my girlfriend's rashes and bedbug bite are still not healed yet even after over a week. It definitely did not make our vacation that enjoyable having the fear of bedbugs the whole time. -

This hotel is not horrible, but it's definitely not great either. The lobby is cute, but as soon as you get off the elevator to get to your room, everything is dirty, nasty, and gross. The room had an AC that didn't really work. You could practically feel the springs in the bed. The bathroom had rust and grime. The TV didn't work well either. Over time, the image would turn into a straight line. The only great thing about this hotel is it's a block away from the beach, close to restaurants, and near an ABC store. I don't plan on coming back. I know there is better for the same price.

Wow what can I say, I got the best bargain for my buck here. This hotel is only rated like a 1 or 2 star hotel. It doesn't provide so many amenities, but who needs them. If I were a sloth and can't do things for myself than of course I'd go somewhere else, but after staying here I must say, if the rates continue to be low, I definitely will stay here again.
The hotel has a front desk that's open 24hrs. Has a nice spacious lobby. There is a restaurant and bar located in the lobby as well, but I have not tried it. There are two pools on the 4th floor I think in between the two hotel towers. There's a gift shop and much much more. These basic things are all I need. Simple hotel for a simple man is what I say.
Overall, if you just need a place to sleep and don't care too much about room service and fancy amenities then Ocean Resort Hotel is the place for you. Very low budget, but big on value. The room I had is shown in the pictures section. I hope it entices you to stay here, if not then suit yourself. -

I compromised and gave this 3-stars because it truly deserves separate ratings. The hotel itself is probably a 2 1/2 - 3 star hotel. The location and price are definitely 5 star!... It's only a few blocks away from Waikiki Beach (Diamond Head), right by the zoo, plenty of places to eat within walking distance, etc...
The hotel itself... well, it serves its purpose of providing you with a place to rest your head at night. Nothing fancy about it but it was always clean and that's pretty important.
But for the love of God, do NOT eat in the restaurant!!! It's slightly more then nasty and there's plenty of places around it that are better. Overall, Ocean Resort can't be beat when it comes to the price.
PS: The outdoor pool is the coldest pool I've ever been to in my life!... don't jump in or you'll freeze!! -

Check out the ocean view pic below and that is what our ocean view was. Note that it's between 2 other hotels though-
Room and location meets all basic needs-near the busline, near the beach, near a Starbucks...the shower does need to be moved a foot higher. We asked for towels when we needed them-didn't bother to have them come in to clean daily as the room isn't that large. It did have a small fridge and a balcony to sit on. Near Diamond Head as well-overall it was a regular beach hotel-definitely not luxurious but clean (no bugs). -

Ive been going to Waikiki for many years now, and have never experienced customer service as bad as I received on my last trip to Castle Ocean Resort Hotel Waikiki! My original reservation was for a city view room, but I noticed that coffee was not included in that room (i like to relax in the morning on the lanai and drink my coffee), so I called the toll free number and asked what their policies were on this and they told me that if I upgraded to a room with a kitchenette I would have a coffee in my room for the trip also microwave and stove too. There was a 20$ difference for the room so I agreed. When arriving at the hotel the front desk asked me if I still wanted the upgrade and I agreed, so they billed my card the difference without explaining what is included. Come to find out after I have my coffee the first day and calling the front desk for more coffee for the next day they tell me that coffee is not included with the price like I was promised. After explaining to BRANDON the front desk boy what I was promised over the phone he called the lady who upgraded and she denied telling me this. During this conversation I can see him laughing at me. Then he offered to pay for the coffee himself (like I can afford it), he also went on to say that this is a "budget hotel" and I shouldn't expect much. Then to top it off I asked to speak to the manager and he was a useless as BRANDON.
They ended up having to refund the difference of 113$ instead of admitting their wrong doing and just giving me a coffee!!! -

We've stayed at Ocean Resort Hotel twice now - both from our travel packages. For the location and what it is - I have to say Ocean Resort is a great deal. Less than 2 blocks from the water - it is so convenient and has all the basics you could need.
On our first stay - we had a large corner room with 2 queen beds and a wrap around balcony, complete with ocean view!
On our 2nd stay we had a tiny bedroom with 2 twin beds and an ocean view. Since the 2 twin beds wouldn't work, we were changed to a slightly larger room with 1 queen bed and a view of the valley and partial view of Diamond Head.
I really can't complain. Sure, the room, hotel, and just about everything in it is extremely outdated, but the rooms are clean and the price & location are great! After seeing what our friends got for slightly less than what we paid (horrific) - I'd stay at Ocean Resort any given day!
Don't plan on staying if you're expecting a 4 or 5 star hotel - but if you're practical and don't plan on staying in the room much, this could be the right place for you! -

Ask about the King rooms with kitchenettes, they rock! Love the location, balconies & chill pool deck.

For the price of our package it was just okay. Sound insulation was poor, you can hear everything happening outside. So, bring earplugs. Comfortable beds. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Best hotel to stay at when you are on a budget. Usually online prices are under $100 and its less the a 2 min walk to the beach. Its near the end of Waikiki strip but everything is close by. Hotel rooms are clean but a little worn down. But who cares! Your in Hawaii! you shouldn't be in your room all day anyways.

Not bad... Rooms are a good size, kitchenettes are stocked, but the beds are darned hard and there are only two elevators and fifty parking stalls, so you have to park at the Banyan. They gave us a rollaway bed free of charge, which was a nice perk. I have to knock down a star because of the elevator situation, but definitely on the high end of three stars.

Super cheap. Clean. Not the best lookin' hotel but hey-- it served its purpose. Right by the beach... close to shopping and food joints.

This hotel was included as part of our Travelzoo package, and we chose not to upgrade it. We were very satisfied with the hotel in general--it provided the basics at an affordable price. The room had air conditioning, a small TV, and a mini fridge. We also had an ocean view! However, other than that there wasn't much else to comment on. The only problems we noted were that the water temperature in the shower was sometimes inconsistent, and the elevators were somewhat rickety (although not really a big deal). The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was always cleaned well, and we found the restaurant in the hotel served a great breakfast--don't miss out on the free papaya coupon you get when you check-in! Yum!

One of the cheapest hotels close to Waikiki beach you can find. I have been there twice and both times the rates were under $100 per night. Once it was $59 per night and the second time was $79/night. The rooms are clean and very spacious. You can get a nice room w/ 2 queen beds along with a kitchen. The only thing I complain about is the parking. The spaces are super tight and I feel like I'm in LA in the middle of Westwood.

I was very surprised to see the high reviews for this place, yes the value is killer for the location but the hotel is terrible. We got a view of some really crappy apartments with all of their crap on their patio. The beds are very uncomfortable, and we got two single beds in the room, oh and the shower must have been made for midgets because I had to bend over to get my head wet, and I am not that tall of a guy. The staff seemed pretty cool from my little exposure to them since I was there for just one night. I personally rather pay $30 or $40 more a night for a discount place in the same area that I know is going to be a nice place to stay.
