26 reviews for Hyatt Grand Champions Resort
I'd like to give it 3 1/2. For some reason, as far as a hotel goes, I absolutely love it. I just feel really comfortable in the rooms. The beds are so soft, it's roomy, it feels luxurious...
The pool is nice, and I really like that they have an adult only pool because if you don't have kids, it's hard to accept their screaming. Some say "Aw they're having so much fun," I say, "Go play in a soundproof bubble." Anyways, my review would be much more enthusiastic if I were writing it a year ago. They used to have pool parties on Sundays called Plush parties hosted by Carol Dean, a woman who owned a boutique on El Paseo. They had fashion shows and merchandise and a DJ... but those have ceased. Now it just seems like the Hyatt isn't as exciting these days.
I will say that since they have acquired the band that used to exclusively play at the Esmeralda, the hotel lounge bar has gotten very popular. I can't remember if it's Friday or Saturday nights, but they are a lot of fun. The bar isn't quite as roomy as I'd like ti to be though. But I will say that their flatbread pizza if delicious. I would recommend the BBQ chicken pizza. They also have very good tortilla soup that's kind of unique and has a bit of a kick.
HELPFUL TIP: If you go to Hotwire, they are often the 4 star hotel for $89-$129 depending on the date.
Just stayed here for 3 days. The resort is very clean and the staff is very friendly. It was over 100 degrees when we stayed here and thank god they have air conditioning blasting all through the resort. The room we had was very spacious and clean. We stayed in a double bedroom. There was a lot of space as there was also a couch and desk and a huge flat screen tv with great cable.
We came here to relax and we definitely did. It was kind of difficult to relax when it is 104 degrees out. THey have 7 pools for you to swim in. But the 7 pools were pretty small. We mainly stayed at the adult pool, which I thought was a great idea to have an adult pool as it was quiet from children. But the adult pool was very small and it was only 3 1/2 feet! They have a really fun slide as well, which i think is for kids but i definitely had to go on it.
The Lantana restaurant inside the resort has an amazing breakfast buffet. The food is really great, but it is a little pricey for a breakfast buffet. We also ate dinner here, but it wasn't as great as the menu was very small and the food was just ordinary.
They have an AMAZING fitness center. Its better than the gym that i go to. THey have every fitness equipment you can think of. Their cardio equipment are all high tech as each equipment has a personal TV. THey also provide cold towels and water..just great!
My family of four and I had the best 4th of July ever here. We paid $283 for a 3-day holiday weekend which is dirt cheap at this gorgeous resort. Yes, it's hot as Hades down there but so worth if still if you stay here. This is gonna be a long review. I have so much positive things to say about this place.
Rooms:
For the Price of $283 and some change, we got a large golf view room with two queen beds and a huge king size sofa bed. There was also a nice size flat screen TV, walk in shower, and a patio area. They have a well stocked mini bar and snack bar as well. Decor is modern and the room was sparkling clean. We had the extra space so we invited my sister and her family to join us. The room accommodated all 8 of us nicely.
Pools:
There are 7 pools here and 2 hot tubs. There is a kiddie water area and pool as well as a mini water slide which I had a blast sliding down. There is an adult pool which I didn't get to try because I had the kiddies with me but I thought that was cool if you want to escape the little people. I still had fun in the main and kiddie pools drinking pretty cocktails poolside. The poolside food and drink service was not half bad. We had the chicken quesadilla and portabello mushroom burgers with fries and it was tasty and decent priced.
Kid Friendly:
They have tons of activities for kids. They have a camp that you can send the kids to all day or for partial days at reasonable prices for kids ages 3-10. I didn't use the service because my daughter is 2 but I will in the future. They have all kinds of activities for kids throughout the day as well from a reptile show to a face painting, and glitter tattoos. They even do a fun scavenger hunt and air kid movies at the pool area from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM and you can watch in the comfort of the lounge chairs or chilling in the pool.
Food:
I had breakfast at the Lantana restaurant on the terrace and it was not bad at all. I ordered the lox and bagel and it was fresh and delicious. The hubby opted for their breakfast buffet and liked it. I didn't think they have a big spread though but it was still good. We also had dinner in Pianissimo Lounge. Yes service is a little slow but the pizza is good and kids are allowed in here before nine. Mommy and Daddy got best of both worlds. Eating and drinking alcohol while the kids sat on the comfy sofas munching on mac and cheese and pizza and playing their video games while Mom and Dad enjoy a cocktail or 5...lol.
4th of July:
This was the most non hectic firework show I have ever been to. There are two other resorts in the premise and they do their own fireworks show. We sat out in the golf course with our beer cans in the cooler and had the best view of the fireworks. As long as the prices remain, I will be spending every 4th of July here from now on.
Gym:
The gym is a nice size and has state of the art equipment. I got my cardio on and was pleased to see they provide towels and water.
I can't hardly wait to go back and while checking out they gave me $150 food and beverage credit for my next visit. This place ROCKS!

I guess strolling up to check-in at 1:00am pays off on occasion. We were upgraded to the presidential suite after booking a standard room on Priceline the same day for $85 (plus a $25 resort fee). Shame we couldn't enjoy it for more time. We were only in the desert for a quick one-nighter; stopped at Fantasy Springs Casino on the way down and planned to catch some sun by the pool the next day.
Nonetheless, the suite was sweet! Located on a card-only floor with other suites, it was very well done and had a huge patio overlooking the beautiful grounds and lagoon-like pool. There was a spacious living room with comfy couches, a fireplace, flat-screen TV, surround sound, wall mirror the size of Kansas and private bathroom. The bedroom was nice and had plush bedding and another flat screen. The bathroom was gigantor with a great soaking tub. So, for 12 hours (late check-out), we enjoyed the lap of luxury.
In the early afternoon, a bellman happily checked our bags so we could head to the pool. We laid out by the restaurant/bar and had drinks. Thank goodness for plenty of shaded area under palm trees where I could get some relief from the desert sun and savor my fruity-tuity blended vodka concoction without it melting in two minutes.
After a lovely day by the pool, we got our bags and headed for home. The parking lot is free, close and easy, but it's uncovered and completely exposed to the Africa heat - so use one of those hideous metallic windshield covers and/or crack your windows.
It was a roll of the dice that we ended up here, and pleasant surprise.

Used a promotion to get buy 1 get 1 free massage, and they generously offered us the same coupon for dinner. Nice to get more than we expected. Spa was relaxing, dinner was excellent.
Pool area was a bit crowded with lots of kids (labor day) and though they have 4-5 pools, they're all quite small.
They keep it in good and clean condition. Recommend for relaxing and hanging out.
Got a pretty good deal going off-season. From reading reviews elsewhere, I was expecting a hike to our room. Compared to resorts in places like Maui, this was nothing.
The grounds were kept fairly well, save a couple of places with some jank grassy, muddy areas - it is the desert, so they get a freebie). Wish the dining options were better, but meh.
Pool area was nice. A big, big, selling point for me is the 18 and over adult pool area. It was a mellow, relaxing setting in off-season August. Music played, but wish it was a tad louder- had to strain to hear it in certain areas- but lead to a resorty ambiance that was awesome. I reserved a cabana for 1/2 day, which was almost $50 without tip. The shade and ceiling fan was a nice respite from the 115+ record breaking heat. Another day I just got to the pool early enough to grab a couple of padded lounge chairs that had an umbrella. The pool is fairly shaded from all of the mature palms, but more umbrella chairs would have been nice. The adult pool patrons were respectful and didn't speak above normal conversational volume. I was expecting some drunk volumed voices, but there were none. Lots of couples just chillin. Drink service was fine, but do yourself a favor and don't get a pina colada/lava flow or anything like that. We paid $6 or $9 (can't remember) for each drink and they were terrible- ice chunks were huge, mix was crap, and drink separated into a watery mess. I forgot how awesome those drinks are (creamy, consistency, flavor, etc.) in Hawaii...
Our room was to our satisfaction. Liked that there was a stepdown to the living room area. Bathroom was big enough, but there was a lot of smoke and mirrors. For example, the bathroom had granite countertops, but the double doors were not updated. And having a separaate shower was nice, but the glass doors were not level and water leaked out the door seam like crazy. The bathroom is also calling for at least a roman sized tub- the space is there. We are not picky, but I am writing this for people that care about that kind of stuff.
Something we didn't like about the room was the air conditioner. It is loud, like people have written ( didn't affect our sleep, as it served as white noise, which we like). What we didn't like was the fact that the air goes off once you leave your room. When it is as hot as it is in the desert, we want to retreat to an almost icy cold room. The temp wasn't hot, but not cold enough for us. I understand that the air would have an auto shut off if we had the sliding door open (and that info is stated in the room), but we didn't see anywhere that the air would go off once we left the room. Just to be sure that we weren't crazy, we asked the front desk and they confirmed our suspicion. Minus one star for that for sure. If you are going to charge a $23/day resort fee AND a $10/day self parking fee, let us control the air!
I've stayed at the Hyatt GCR a few times on business. It's a very nice hotel, well run. Nice rooms, clean and well kept. Convention services was on the ball, and responded quickly to any concerns.
It is expensive, but you get what you pay for.
Our hotel room was spacious with a balcony view of the golf course. Included in our package was free breakfast and $100 spa certificate so we made good use of both accommodations.
I would have given it 4 stars, except the service for breakfast dining was close to horrible. Perhaps they were understaffed for Vday weekend, but service was non-existent throughout the meal. The food was pretty good (over-priced) but expected and at least covered with our package. However, due to the lack of service and clean up, the table near where we sat (outside patio) that left nearly 1 hour ago still had their left over food littered all over the table and BIRDS came to attack it. It was a funny but gross scene... (see pictures I posted).
Parking is free in their open lot, as well as on the top floor of their valet parking garage.
They have a couple of pool areas, one general, and one for adults, which was pretty deserted. But overall it was a nice relaxing set up with vegas-like cabanas that had TVs and fridges in them (but costs alot for use).
Their Aqua Serena Spa was nice, my masseuse was friendly and I had a relaxing time using their facilities (steam room and sauna) and large shower rooms.
They have a few bunnies roaming around the area at night, and weather is always pretty nice in Palm Springs. The highlight of the trip would be the grapefruit trees they have in the front entrance area while driving in...
we thought they were oranges at first, and ended taking quite a few back with us... haha only pleasantly discovering that they were REALLY JUICY GRAPEFRUITS!
Overall, it was a fun experience in a nice facility. However in the end at our morning check-out they overcharged us by about $100 which could be a small mistake... but that just added on to the morning horror of seeing birds attacking left over food. Hence only 3 stars..

I love this hotel! It is a true resort and spa. The rooms are nice and the staff are very friendly. The views of the mountains is just breath taking and the pool areas are fantastic. Great place for families but if you are looking for adult time they have the Oasis pool where children are not allowed. Truly a relaxing experience. I love this place and can't wait to go back!

We had Mother's Day Brunch on the Verbena Terrace and it had been a while since we had been there...too far from Palm Springs and we have too many wonderful restaurants in our own little village. Having been in the business, I was more than a little nervous about going to ANY restaurant on Mother's Day (or Easter!). My fears were instantly quelled by a glass of champagne poured as we were being seated....SWEET! Our table, like most, shaded and affording a wonderful view of the golf course.
We took an initial "tour" of the huge buffet and were very impressed with the offerings...all fresh and wonderfully presented. I had some of the best baked halibut in a creamy mushroom sauce, plump jumbo prawns, fresh fruit, pate de foie gras, but I couldn't pass up the made-for-me omelette...just perfect!!!
Another glass of champagne and we were full to the brim...no room for the wonder bananas Foster...shame! Our waitress was so very attendtive and efficient; WELL DONE!! $45 wasn't terrible for all we had, though still a bit pricey.
I really like this hotel, and I'd love to give it 5 stars, but I can't quite, since it could 'get better'. The pluses are big ones- large comfortable rooms, great service with friendly staff members, a fantastic gym and spa, and a good number of outstanding pools, places to relax, games to play, etc. Self-parking for free is fabulous. Fun watching bunnies run around.
The downside: my recent pool view room had a number of brightly-colored and sticky stains on the carpet, and while it did have an updated flat screen TV, it needed some better speakers to be clearly heard over the very noisy HVAC that kept clicking on and off. Also, I HATE the pay-extra-to-use Internet. I mean, if Motel 6 can offer the 'Net for free, why should I have to pay extra here (when I'm already paying extra!!)

Pros: Get a private bungalow and it's sheer opulence... the huge bath tub with the open skylight, a shower big enough for 10 people, the private jacuzzi, tennis courts, golf and mucho privacy. Romantic get-away? Mais bien sur.
Cons: Mucho expensive... but hey, you gotta pay to play, right?
Went there for a conference in September. First room they placed me in was nice, but went to sleep and awoke to get ready for the early conference day, and the entryway carpet was soaking wet. I literally stood by my suitcase (which thankfully I had put on the stand) for 10 seconds and my fuzzy slippers got soaked to the core. I left the room , as I had to get to the conference at 7:00 am, and since it was quite early (and my sisters were still asleep), I decided to contact the front desk a few hours later. I went there at lunch to talk to the front desk, and she said "oh yeah, there was a leak next door. You had your 'do not disturb' sign up so we didn't bother you. Would you like me to send up some fans?" I told her that the carpet was so soaked, that just stepping on it WITH SHOES was quite dangerous, because the minute I stepped into the bathroom (which didn't have water on the floor), I nearly slipped and fell, simply from the amount of water that got on the bottom of my shoes. I asked what kind of leak and she said "ummm I dunno. I think they left their sink on or something." I shudder at the thought if it were toilet water....at any rate, she asks if I'd like a new room, and of course I said yes, because by the time noon hit, the closet in the room was beginning to smell musty from the soaking carpet. She said to stop by later when the rooms were cleaned and she could give me a new room. I stopped by later, and the guy said "do you really need 2 queens? I have several rooms with a king bed and there's the pull out sofa." I did not want to sleep on a sofa pull out, nor did anyone else in my room. So, he offered up the only other room with two queens, which was a villa. Great, I thought! We're moving up! Well...ha! I think it was a villa that they only used as a last resort. It was the furthest one out there, when we got there, the guy who drove us there on the golf cart said he'd send someone out to put the closet door back on track. Fix-it #1. There also was no ironing board in the closet. Iron, yes, Board-no. The room was also smaller than the regular hotel room--at least the hotel room had a desk and a small couch. This had two beds and a tiny small round table with two chairs. No where to relax aside from the beds. The bathroom was nice and large, though. Fast forward to 1:30 am, when I'm busy catching up on work, sitting up in bed. My sister is in the other bed asleep. It is very quiet. I hear rustling noises. I peek over the edge of the bed, and there is a MOUSE peeking out of the backpack that we had on the floor. Obviously looking for food! I immediately called the front desk and they sent someone out. He showed up with a flashlight and a broom. He looked half-heartedly around the room for the mouse, not quite sure whether to believe me, and said "well I don't know where he went. There's only so many places he could go. what do you want me to do? Do you want to get another room or something?" Which, he didn't sound like he was going to help me with that, and since it was 1:30 am, more closer to 2 am by the time he got there, and we had already moved once that day, I thought not. I just moved my stuff. Needless to say, it wasn't easy to get to sleep! the next day, I tried to use the nice flat screen tv in the bathroom. It said "check cable." i checked the cable from the tv to the wall, and all was in place. Then the error on the tv read "no signal." Fix-it #2. I didn't bother to complain about that, since we were checking out the next day, and really, who wants to sit and watch tv in the bathroom? I just thought it'd be nice to have some noise while I got ready, and listen to the news. I complained to our conference coordinator, who said she'd talk to the hotel staff about my stay. They ended up comping one night's stay. Oh, and they took off the $10/day parking charges. But not really "sorry" that I had such a horrible experience. Not a place that I'd be running back to anytime soon, or ever.
Stayed here for a business trip this weekend, and I've got mixed feelings. Very nice suites, and the staff was both friendly and helpful, but there's something about this place that's just not quite there yet. It could have been the heat (107 on average during the day), but I just thought there was something amiss.
The bar is nice, and Lantera, the restaurant, did a better than average job with both breakfast and dinner. Great front desk folks, and housekeeping was on top of their game.
Maybe it was just that I felt like whenever I stepped out beyond the mist machines, I felt a little like an ant under a magnifying glass.

I finally outdrank the Foodslut.
AJ and Judy are my witnesses. It happened at this resort so it gets 5 stars.
I must revel in this moment because it will probably never happen again.
I am the grand champion.
I hope he doesn't read this.

All I could say is I wish I could've stayed longer :o( *boo hoo*
Unfortunately, I was only here for the weekend (Sat-Sun) and didn't get the opportunity to check out all the other ammenities the Hyatt had to offer. But from what I could see: the tennis courts looked nice, the golf course looked neat and trim (a little hilly), and the pools looked clear and refreshing.
However from what I did get to experience: the beds were comfortable and warm, the hot tub was hot and jets were strong, the drinks were not bad, and the poolside food was above average.
I would definitely check this place out again. While I was here during the beginning of March, it didn't seem too crowded despite there being a big Yahoo! convention. The weather was about 80 degrees, fine to layout in, but not hot enough to get a good tan. Also, it got pretty windy on the last day. I would imagine this place to be packed by summer time.

Ahhhh I could have stayed for the whole week here.... Its one of my favorite poolsides within driving distance from where I live and I have been coming here for the past 5 years. Even when I flew from Seattle to meet up with girlfriends or the other occasions I have been here, I have had consistent good service with all the amenities that I need to relax such as:
-Great pool with an adult pool area with good eats & drink selection with wait staff that is attentive
-Easy navigation around the property.... I don't want it to be a massive complex where I don't know where the entrance into the resort is!
-Great spa with a good workout facility
-Lots of other restaurants close by so I can eat / drink at other places
I think their standard rooms are very spacious so even if you have to cram into just 1 room, you can really be comfortable. A good size bathroom to easily get ready in with lots of counter space.... a separate glass shower and tub.... and even a sunken living room area with a couch & chair.
We were lucky enough to get a great patio with a view of the 7 pools off the room which is my favorite place to unwind at the end of the day. Sitting in my plush robe with a cocktail in hand looking at the extra twinkly stars just make life so good. Reserve a room and feel yourself relax instantly!

My Hyatt experience didn't start out five stars. I actually had a basic room on the first floor facing the parking lot. Boring. The excitement came the next morning when I woke up, put my feet on the floor and was unpleasantly surprised with the squish of wet carpet. Yep, something next door had flooded the entire room. Fantastic. I spent the next hour trying to find out how to get moved, waiting for someone to come move my stuff and worrying about how I'd get to my conference on time across the street.
After expressing my frustration and disappointment with the manager, he upgraded my room to the top floor and gave me Regency Club access. That's right damnit!. The room and balcony were nice and the view was fantastic. See pics. The Regency Club was a nice perk. Free food and drinks. Sweet!
The pool is relaxing and tempting enough to make me slack off during my conference early one day.
They redeemed themselves.

Ok, they would have gotten full stars from me but the restaurant service was horrible. Let's start with the good though.
PROS:
Rooms: Stayed in 2 bedroom villa with our own hot tub and bbq (great way to just have fun with your friends instead of stressing in the restaurant atmosphere). Rooms are PHAT! Even rooms in hotel are 500 sq ft! Ours was 1300 and the bathrooms were HUGE!
Staff: Private butler was good but not as friendly as the rest of the staff.
Everyone on property was so friendly and nice. They would stop by our room and hang for a bit (our insistence).
Activities: Loved playing croquet! It was much more fun then the pool! Bar was fun, but think it was supposed to be quiet atmosphere but we were really loud enjoying the double bday celebration. Sorry for ruining the nice quiet evening folks! Haha! Bunny chasing, ok they are not there to be chased but cute little bunnies hopping around at night is impossible to not want to hold one!
CONS:
Adult pool was sooooo quiet and boring. Yawn!
Went to the grill, kinda pricey and sloow service.
But the poolside grill takes the cake! What crappy service! I understand it was windy that day and not many people but we sat there for 15 minutes (and banged on the door a few times) waiting for a server to come out. The only other table laughed and wished us luck since apparently it was hard to get help. Finally our weird waitress comes out and we say we are ready to order. I ask for waters around and...wait, where did she go? She ran off and took 10 minutes to get us water! I have never gotten so many dirty looks from a table before! Then she finally took our orders and apparently it was too confusing. I mean asking for turkey on a grilled cheese was not ok and she had to clear that with her manager. Is that too odd? I don't think so! Finally get the food and the manager comes over and in a rude way tells me I cannot use my gift card there (even though they had done it the day before) and I would have to do it at checkout. Then gave me attitude saying "You didn't meet the $100 minimum anyways" Ugh. Then to top it off our watiress dissappeared with our credit cards for 20 minutes. There is no door on this restaurant so what were we to do? AH! And to top it off even more there were two pool employees just standing there while we were trying to get out of there. Couldn't they see that their colleague should be helping us? Why are the golf cart drivers so much more awesome then the waitstaff?

I L-O-V-E this resort. I wrote the review of the Agua Serena Spa at this resort and my thoughts of the resort, as you can see, were an after thought. I have been there twice. The first trip on the 3 floor was a balcony room on the golf course, king bed, huge bathroom, 3 telephones and free internet. It was clean and looked newly decorated, just with old traditional style. :op
The second trip was a girl's getaway to the two bedroom villa with a backyard private spa butler serviceand anything else you could imagine. All of the resort amenities like bike rentals, spa use and reserved cabana by the pool are worth it. Local shopping is fantastic!
The cocktails rock! The service is phenominal!
Agua Serena Spa is not to be missed. I have experienced spas all over the world, on land and sea and this one ranks in the top 15. Take some Desert Sage Oil home to bring back the happy feelings once you get home.
Was here for a conference during December.
The Good:
1. Staff is courteous and helpful.
2. Room was large and quiet.
3. The bed was comfortable, the room came with a chair and a couch.
What could be improved:
1. They charge $10/day for internet! What are they trying to prove?
2. The room decorations are old style California - think "modern" during the Johnson/Nixon era.
3. TV is CRT not flatscreen (not a big deal).
All in all not a bad place to stay. It feels more like a regular Hyatt than a resort though. Bottom line, you get what you pay for.
my first ever poolside experience! woohoo!
apparently, i need to learn how to vacation properly: stop being so touristy...enjoy laying out doing nothing. you mean i can have food and cocktails brought to me by the pool ALL DAY? nice! the adult section (age 16 and over) is the place to be for quieter poolside, though the sun is better in the regular pool area.
employees throughout the resort are so kind. they say "hi, how are you", even just in passing.
warning - the rooms with "two double beds" are not actually double beds. they seemed smaller than a full.
thanks LV for a wonderful weekend! =)

We had mixed results with the Hyatt Grand Champions - the grounds are gorgeous and my wife loved the Lobster sandwich at the poolside grill. Unfortunately, I think the bad outweighs the good:
* Really slow service, both at the pool and at the grill. We usually gave up waiting for them to come take drink orders, and just went to the bar instead.
* Mediocre drinks. I watched them make our drinks at the bar - the frozen drinks are all made with drink mixes from a carton, and it tasted that way.
* Walking around one evening, we saw a rat swimming in one of the pools. At least it was gone in the morning.
* Hidden fees - they claim it was printed in large bold letters when checking in, but I don't remember agreeing to an additional per-night fee. They also didn't include it on the final bill at checkout, but instead charged it a day or two after we had left, which is pretty shady.
We went here over the summer with my daughter and one of her friends. Two lovely twenty year olds and me. They had their own room and hung out with us during food and shopping time. Oh who cares, at least I was able to gain perspective into her life. It was a great bonding time, lovley pool and rooms. I suggest the concierge floor...hrmmm...I think this hotel had it...oh well, whenever you can try for that option.

I will remember one thing, and one thing only about my stay at the Hyatt: "Resort fee." On top of your nightly fee to stay at the hotel, they lay a "resort fee" on you for the gym, the pool...all the things that are normally included in a hotel's nightly fee. This is a very shady way to do a business, especially for a hotel that's supposedly rated 4-stars. Shame on Hyatt.

Love this hotel! It is a true resort and spa. The rooms are nice the staff is good. The view of the mountains is just breath taking and the pool areas are fantastic. Great place for families but if you are looking for adult time they have the Oasis pool no kiddies allowed. You must check out the cabana's. The spa was beautiful, one of the most beautiful. Truly a relaxing experience. The therapists we had were probably a little green and just needing a little more experience I defiantly enjoyed my treatment but would not put it in the top 5. The spa itself is worth checking out. I love this place and can't wait to go back.
