The Fat's Domino Burger is so delicious. The seasoning is marinated evenly all over the patty so once you bite into it there's a nicely, well done crunch. Also, I smothered thousand island dressing over the lettuce, onions, jalapeno, and the heavenly almighty cheese. It was a definite good addition to this burger, but that's just because I'm a fan of thousand island, it was good without it too.
2 for 1 burgers every Wednesdays. Keep in mind that you have to order the same burger, but can get different burger toppings. It's still a really great deal.
Sometimes you just want a good burger. So tonight my little group had a small challenge. I personally wanted a greasy cheese burger and some onion rings. We had a vegetarian in the group. Not always an easy group to target. At Hut's not only did I had this awesome double cheese burger, but my friend was able to get a burger vegetarian style. The thing that really impressed me, he could choose any burger on the menu, and at no additional cost it could have a veggie burger. Which he very much enjoyed.
Fries and Onion Rings are not included so we ordered a mixed side of both for the table. Never in my life had I had an onion ring so large that I had to use a knife! I was amazed.
Our server was very friendly, and when she did not know an answer about food allergies... she did not make up an answer. She simply apologized to excuse herself to find out. I am always impressed at servers who are willing to learn with you as a guest, rather than make up an answer... that could in turn be harmful.
What is best about this spot. I had a very good dinner and a beer, and it was less than $14 for myself.
GO:
Hamburger Happy Hours- 2 burgers for the price of 1 (Wednesdays from 6 to 10 PM)

Hut's Favorite
Walked over here last night after work for a bit of dinner.
Got the Hut's Favorite like I did last time. It wasn't QUITE as good as it was last time, but it was still very good. Burger was cooked medium well and was very juicy. Bun was fresh and crunchy where it needed to be, but soft in all the right places.
I sat at the bar; the bartender was on top of his game. He was wearing a Frank and Angie's shirt, which I thought was funny. I know they're sister stores, but his shirt made me want to leave Hut's and eat at Frank and Angie's instead. Yeah, the money goes to the same hands ultimately, but if you really want to be cut early and not get your tip share, go ahead and wear that shirt! Honestly, though, I stayed and ate at Hut's because I would have felt badly if I left. Frank and Angie's will get my business tonight, most likely... if I can get there before the crowd.
The one thing I didn't like about my experience from last night was that the bar is too tall... or the stools at the bar are too short. The soda glasses they give you are so huge that I couldn't just slide the glass over to me, lean over and take a sip from the straw like my lazy self wanted to do. I would have had to stand up to do that. So I had to pick the glass up and away from the bar to drink it. That was annoying. Also annoying was the fact that the straw was ALMOST too short for the glass.
I will go back to Hut's one day in the near future, I'm sure.

It's hard for me to believe I have lived in Austin for eight years and just tonight tried Hut's for… Read more »
Well.. the burger it's good. Quite good. Is it the best ever? Nah. Does it deserve the hype, nah. But if you'd like a solidly decent burger why not. The place feels like a old school sport diner so that's pretty neat and I like it's history. The servers are nice too and the sodas are huge. So there ya go.
Nothing special.
Much ado about nothing.
It's always packed. I've never been here that I didn't have to wait. And then when you finally get shoe-horned into a spot, your server is always running around like they freebased PCP.
The food is nothing special. I'd actually recommend going away from the burgers if you must eat there. The best meal I ever had there was a chicken fried steak and onion rings and even then I'd rate that tolerable.
Considering all of the great buildup people have given me about Hut's, my first visit left me a bit disappointed and not really wanting to go back.
My boyfriend and I split the bleu cheese burger and an order of fries and green beans. I took a really long time, and we noticed that a couple that came in and sat down after us had their food and were finishing by the time we got ours. Not a good start..
So we finally get our food, and they brought the wrong side (no green beans), which the waiter replaced, but the chipotle mayo never made it to the table. My half of the burger was really small, mostly just bun.
The fries weren't very impressive either.
So basically: one burger, two sides, and two fountain drinks= $20. Yeah, really not worth it.
The good thing about Hut's is that if you do have a bad experience there it can be somewhat remedied by walking over to Whole Foods and getting some gelato.
"The perfect hangover food"
I'm a veggie burger-lovin lady and every single one I've tried at Hut's has been amazing. The Beachboy something-or-other is my fave - swiss cheese, pineapple - it doesn't get much better. Well, until you add their homemade fries...
Oh, and remember to ask for a couple extra napkins - their burgers may be delicious, but they're sure messy.
Well, Well, Well, what can any one say about an Austin institution that has been around for so many years and already has over 150 Yelp reviews that has not been said before.
OK so I went back recently and reviewing the menu I see that Huts has been around in one form or another since 1939 and moved to its current location n 1969 and has had several owners since then. Well how about that this place is so old it is way older than I am and I am close to death I am so old.
Yes parking is a problem, consistency is a item as well, I have had great burgers here and not so great cooked so well done it was bad, but over all I like for its nostalgia. Where else can you go with animal heads on the wall, pictures as old as the hills of all kinds of famous people and school banners hanging everywhere and the ceiling is full of stuff as well. As for parking even if you get a great spot up front near the front door, just try backing out on to 6th in traffic hard to do.
When I order the burgers I tend to get the Dagburger or the Beachboy's favorite with fries. I do kinda like the fries and the burgers but as I stated sometimes they are very good and other times not so good, it depends on the cooking staff I guess but not sure here. I do like the meatloaf special on Thursday. I have tried the chicken fried steak and I like it as well. One thing I do like is that you can order a coke with vanilla or cherry flavors, I like vanilla in mine.
The wait staff has always been fine and enjoyable to deal with and just being there watching the various type of customers form young to old from hippy to suits, from sexy to slight dirty you can always have a great watching experience.
Well bust my buttons so saddle up your car and giddy up on down there and enjoy yourself.
Would I go back? Of course parking problems and all some day in the near future I will slither in for a burger or more.
Having heard many raves about Hut's burgers from friends and family, I regret to report that news of their deliciousness is greatly exaggerated. On my first visit I enjoyed a burger that was perfectly fine, perfectly serviceable, perfectly what I might expect at a venerable, old-school spot such as this. But divine, it was not. It was well-cooked (that is to say, not overcooked), but lacked anything that would make me call it special. Fries were perfectly serviceable, and the malt was everything an old-school diner malt should be.
A bit irksome is the kitschy theme names for the various burger iterations, mostly honoring 50s-era musicians. If you're like me, you know what you want on a burger, and having to find a moniker on the list that most closely matches (am I a Buddy Holly or a Big Bopper?) then requesting substitutions (no mustard, please) - leaves one feeling a bit like the diner on the old IHOP commercials who feels embarrassed to be ordering something called a "Rooty Tooty."
On a second visit, a chili dog exceeded my expectations.
A definite plus is the vibe of dining in what is no less than an iconic Austin institution. You can't help but imagine all of the important (and not-so-important) characters who may have sat in your seat a generation or two ago. Service has been prompt and friendly.
I've now been to this place a few times because my friends are huge fans.
By my 3star rating, you can see I'm not as impressed.
The amount of food you get for the price can't really be beat. You get a big juicy burger for just a few bucks, my main issue is the taste.
They have great ideas for burgers but the execution of the burgers seems to falter. I've had 4 or 5 different burgers and NONE of them have wowed me.
The waitstaff is pretty good and the atmosphere is fun, I definitely suggest trying this place out, some people love it, some people think it's "okay" but it's definitely NOT "bad".
So though personally, I'm not a huge fan, I definitely highly recommend it as I can see why people love it there.
Not a thin, scrawny burger, but I've definitely tasted better. A bit dry, even for medium. Was it even seasoned?
Kind of reminded me of burgers you'd have at a neighbors while watching the game--better with beer and admissible in good company.
I'd only come here again for the buy one get one free (6-10pm) on Wednesdays.
Everyone told me to go here when I moved here, so I did, and it is truly Austin and can be a lot of fun....
The parking is hilarious...sometimes we park near Frank And Angies when we go, because there are no other options.....I like the atmosphere...it is a rather small establishment with some rather big foods and appetites.....
I have always seen this place super busy.....The burgers, shakes, and hot dogs are all good, and people in my circle really like the onion rings/fries as well.
All in all a very good place to bring out of town-ers or if you plan on chilling downtown for a while, too.
This review is mostly for the veggie burger. It's my absolute fave in Austin. The texture is something closer to falafel than let's say a Boca or other veggie burger. Love that I can have it the same way as all of the other burgers.
The o rings are good too, although sometimes I do wish they were a little bit smaller. The fries I'm not a fan of. They are too limp for me. Plus, a fry has gotta be pretty damn good for me to like it and these fries ain't good.
Good, but expensive.
Analysis:
$2 coke
$6.75 base price for Fats Domino burger
+1.75 grassfed beef surcharge (I'm kind of a hippievore)
$1.75 fries on the side
$1 tax
13+ for a burger, fries, and coke. Ouch. BUT the longhorn grassfed beef made it one of the best burgers I can remember eating. That being said, if I'm by myself I'll gladly make the 25 minute walk to P Terrys on S. Lamar for a reasonably priced lunch rather than saunter 5 minutes west on 6th St.
Other nights, we usually go for 2-for-1, which I suspect contributes massively to Huts' popularity especially since the 2 burgers can be completely different. The veggie burgers are OK, nothing special. Staff is friendly.
Everything about it was just fine. The burger was good, the fries were good, service was relatively fast, my son's hot dog was good (he chowed it all).
My only beef (haha) is the price. it was $25+tip for two adults and a child - and only one soda was ordered. Seems pretty steep for a hamburger joint.
But hey, huts is huts right?
I often forget about their fabulous 2 for 1 burgers on Wednesdays from 5-10. Thankfully I can sub a veggie burger for mine and my husband can still get his beef! Their burgers are always good and the fries can't be beat. For 2 people to eat under 10 bucks is unheard of and it's just a really cool Austin place to go to. Veggie peeps out there, don't forget it's also 2 for 1 veggie burgers on Monday, and it isn't nearly as crowded!
A friend suggested this place after an eventful evening of partying... Yay hangover food!
I jumped right into the Richie Valens burger which came with guacamole, cheese, onions, jalapenos, and tomatoes. Yes it was huge and yes I scarffed it all down. You also have the option of getting buffalo meat instead, which is good if you're going for a leaner burger. I was being a fatty that day (partially due to the hangover), so I stuck with the real stuff.
I tried some of the fries, which were unimpressive. They were kinda dry and flimsy... nothing to write home about (or try again). Try the peppered onion rings - they were delicious! Oh, but the orders are massive, so I was able to get away with a 1/4 order of them with my burger.
The place is tiny, so if you have a large group, you may be in for a bit of a wait. Street parking was a pain, but we managed. Our server was decent, though he was pretty slow at checking on us and getting our bills ready once we were finished. I'd definitely make a return trip for the food anyway :)
While Shady Grove's Green Chile Cheeseburger is the single best burger I've had in Austin, Hut's is probably the greatest all-around hamburger place. One of the things that makes them great is the variety and creativity of the burger selection - 20 different burgers on the menu, and you have your choice of five proteins (including buffalo and veggie burger) and other add-ons/substitutions. I had the Chubby Chuck's last night, which is topped with their homemade hickory sauce, cheddar, onions and pickles. Barbecue sauce can be hit or miss with me, but theirs was so good that any escaping sauce was quickly mopped up with their fries.
Hut's burgers don't just coast on the variety gimmick - as the All-American Buddy Holly burger demonstrates, their burgers taste great even when dressed like a standard cheeseburger. The fries are also good. They're cut with the skin still on, like steak fries, but are better because they are the thickness of a standard fry. The onion rings look delicious, with the golden batter flecked with cracked black pepper, but I can really only eat one onion ring. For one thing, they're huge (I have to eat them with two hands, like a sandwich), and for another thing, they're too rich and bready. I generally prefer thinner slices of onion in a lighter batter.
The sports pennant-drenched decor won't win a beauty contest, but it has character and fits its '50s aesthetics. Service was quick and friendly. Even on Saturday night, we parked right across the street and didn't have to wait. I've been to Hut's before for weekday lunch, however, and it was much busier then. If you're craving pizza instead of burgers, Hut's sister restaurant Frank & Angie's is also worthwhile.
Huts has a good burger. I've had better but to be fair it was cooked properly and ready quickly. The plus side is that it is in a great location and offers good 'home cookin" sides (ie: fried okra).
Hut's serves some of the best burgers & veggie burgers in town.
There is a reason why Hut's is an institution in Austin, and I have been eating there for well over a decade. Hut's isn't exactly cheap by burger & fries standards, but it's not outrageous either. Check their website to find a "two-for" deal day (Hut's does vary the actual day of the week for the deals from time to time).
I do eat meat, and Hut's regular burgers are excellent. However, I've really become a big fan of Hut's veggie burgers. Hut's has a two-for day devoted just to veggie burgers, and I hit that up regularly. The onion rings are huge and delicious, and the fries are very good. Hut's shakes are some of the best I've ever had.
Finally, in all my years of frequenting Hut's, I've never had anything less than excellent service.
Imagine that you are a caveperson. You have lots of responsibilities. One of them includes chasing after moving food. You manage to catch one of these and throw it in the fire. Your mother-in-law cavewoman got you a meat grinder for Christmas, so you give it a try and ground up the beef. You add some cavepeople seasonings, like dirt, crushed leaves, and other items. It tastes alright between the dusty logs of bread you found left over from a few days ago. Next time you may try something like pepper, salt, and eating it on a fresh roll.
That was my burger at Hut's - the description before the improvements. It tasted like they are still figuring stuff out. Considering it's Austin's supposed "best burger," that's pretty sad. For all the unhealthiness of a burger, that stuff better be right. I also got a weekly supply of fats and oils from each flavorless onion ring. I seriously considered whether my so-called "friend," the recommender, wanted a punch to the face with this tip-off. I figured not, and just decided to never return to Hut's.
I was very excited to be going to Hut's last Friday for a work lunch. I had heard that they serve the best burgers in Austin. However, I wasn't really impressed. I had the Frankie Valie buffalo burger, and maybe their beef burgers are a bit better. We also got the fry and onion ring baskets to share.
I thought the burger would be bigger and that the onion rings would be tastier.
After eating at places such as Thurman Cafe in Columbus, OH and Teds in Columbus, OH I think that these places have better burgers and onion rings hands down.
Sorry to all of you Hut's fans out there....but if there was a Thurman's or Teds here in Austin I don't think that Hut's would be as busy as they are currently anymore.
Ah, Hut's. Takes me back to my UT days. Tuesday night 2 for 1s was a regular part of my life back in those days. My friends and I knew where the 2 for 1s were every night of the week. Am I the only one who remembers 2 for 1 chicken fried steak at 2Js? How 'bout the same deal at Holiday House? Reminds me of the good ol' days.
Hut's is still as good as ever. I had an Arnold's Best and got some of their chipotle mayo. It was great on the burger and even better with my onion rings. I still think Hut's onion rings are the best in the world. They're large onion slices cooked with a peppery cornmeal batter. They are fantastic!
I sat at the bar by myself at around 1pm today (a Thursday) and they were still on a pretty good wait. Year after year, Hut's serves up a great burger, the world's best onion rings and an Austin atmosphere that can't be duplicated.
We hit Hut's on a Tuesday night for some good ole burger fare. Service was prompt and our massive burgers came in no time at all.
The fries were screamin' (nice fresh oil) but alas, the onion rings were so-so. Which is a shame 'cause I love me a good onion ring. Too bready and heavy with the whatever it was encasing them.
I'd say they are a good burger. Not the best in town. But good.
Liked the food. My waiter took special care of me (I was there by myself for over two hours working).
Here's the skinny:
Toppings good, though my cheese wasn't melted, just grated. Really like the hickory sauce.
Burger only comes in medium-well. WHY? I like my burgers like my Log Cabin Republicans: Pink
Bun was run-of-the-mill. I forgot to order the whole wheat bun.
Fries are fresh-cut and potatoy. Could have been a little crispier, but they are thicker cut.
All in all, I would go there again. I hear P. Terry's is better.
I know they're supposed to have great burgers, and I know they're an Austin landmark and are very popular, however, I must say I had a disappointing 2 star visit @ Hut's and was somewhat letdown based on the high expectations
The service was great, I sat at the bar and ordered my food. The bartender was very nice and responsive. My drink was filled and I always had napkins and ketchup. The onion rings were fantastic - large marge in size w/ a crispy coating and bits of black pepper. The french fries were extremely good - thick cut and I think w/ the skins on. So far so good.
The problem was my burger, which is what Hut's reputation is based upon - it was horrible. I ordered the #10 The Fats Domino burger (jalapeno, cheese, lettuce, onions and spicy New Orleans seasonings). It sounded so appetizing on the menu but it was such a let down when I got it. It was overcooked, dry, and extremely salty. There was hardly any cheese on it, just bits and pieces of shredded cheddar where one could barely consider it being a "cheeseburger". I had to take large gulps of my Arnie Palmer just to compensate for the extra salty dried out burger patty. This could have easily been a 1 star rating had it not been for the nice service and tasty onion rings + fries.
In the words of Leslie L: "Hut's needs to start questioning the quality of your friendships" - - not to mention the quality of your burgers as well.
5 STARS FOR THE VEGGIE BURGER AND MORE!
With a majority of 133 pretty solid reviews and counting Hut's Hamburgers certainly didn't need me chiming in. BUT I felt the need to give them some yelp love after eating there over the past 8 years and never really being disappointed. Sure when you go on the 2 for 1 Wednesday Hamburger Happy Hour you're probably looking at a minimum 30 minute wait and parking isn't always fun to find at certain times of the day.
What I will add is that $7 for one of the many varieties of Hut's delicious burgers is a pretty good value. So you can beat the 2 for 1 crowd and still feel good about your visit to Hut's. Also the veggie burger is no doubt one of the best I've ever had and that agreement extends to my carnivore friends who routinely order it.
Hut's not only brings together the best of both vegetarian and carnivore world in burgers but also in the rest of their menu. Onion rings are good, fries are great, the 1/2 order of each is best! Brownie is good, shake is great, the Blitz with both is best! Mmmmmmmm! And the service is always attentive!
Thanks Hut's for catering to a world where just one type of burger, fries and shake are not enough!
Even though there seem to be conflicting views on here on if Hut's is actually overrated or hyped, I do share the view that Hut's is one of the best burger places in Austin, at least I can't think of a better one.
Their burgers are all good and they have a selection of about a dozen or so specialty burgers, including things like the Wolfman Jack with sour cream and hot peppers. The burgers are excellent quality and you can ask for buffalo meat instead of beef or you can upgrade to natural, grain fed beef.
The staff is friendly and efficient. The place has been around for a long time and is somewhat typical for Austin. I think what you need to understand about places such as Hut's is that this is a burger joint, not a place for a formal dinner. So, you go there for a quick good eat and move on and there's few better places to eat before a night on town than Hut's. The only other place that I can think of when it comes to burgers is Phil's Ice House even though I think Hut's makes better bugers. P Terry's is also good but their burgers are more fast food style, so it all depends what kind of mood you are in.
Hut's is one of Austin's legendary institutions, and one that has survived for a very long time. As the sleepy college town grew into a high-tech mecca, many of the old haunts have disappeared, but Hut's survives, and thrives.
Honestly, I don't now why.
I love burgers. I've eaten them in more places than I can count. But I've never understood why people get excited about Hut's burger - it's nothing special at all.
The patty is a generic thin, machine-formed model. The bun comes out of a bag. The toppings are varied, but wasted on the generic foundation of this burger.
If you like thin, griddled burgers, go to Dan's or Fran's. The burger is far better.
OK, I'm about to make myself all hungry.
Being born in Austin, I've been "coming here" for over 20 years. But you know, I wasn't eating a cheeseburger at one. You know what I mean.
Hut's hasn't changed much in this time. But in a good way! The burgers are tasty, thick, juicy, and generously topped. AND you can get one in basically any variety you could hope for. I'm a Hut's Favorite girl; a basic bacon cheeseburger. Delish. My dad always gets the burger topped with blue cheese. He'd tell you it's delish as well.
The fries are yummy and well-cooked, but of special note are the onion rings. So, take a nice, big onion. Visualizing it? Chop the whole thing in half. Now pull off a big hefty layer of one of those halves. Still visualizing? OK, that's how big the onion rings are. They're massive. Then rolled in a yummy peppery batter before frying. Yumtastic with ketchup. Also the shakes are a must-try. They actually go haul a big tub of ice cream out of the freezer to make them. No creepy processed veggie oil like at fast food places. No sirree.
The decor is awesome - red and black checkered tile, and the walls are covered with framed photos and autographed magazine covers, sports pennants, and flags. This decor hasn't really changed in 20 years, either. Awesome place all around.
We're in a recession. Things are tight but we all like to have a meal outside of the house. Hut's is the perfect place for that. Especially on Wednesday night when they have their long running 2 for 1 hamburger night and Monday when they have their 2 for 1 veggie burger night.
The burger combinations are endless, although I am a big fan of the veggie burger with veggie chili-is sure beats the veggie cheeseburger that I generally get elsewhere. The onion rings are big giant things that are just plain good.
The setting is retro diner style with a a bar that serves just beer and wine. It's not the healthiest restaurant in town, but it sure is good.
I've waited the requesite 3 hours since my requested medium rare burger at Hut's. I wanted to make sure I did not succumb to E.Coli poisoning before writing the review. Burger and fries were fabulous!
They will cook anyway you like which is nice. Most burger places hide behind the FDA guideline of medium well to bake all the bad things out. True carnevores eat meat as close to rare as possible just like our ancient ancestors.
Hut's offers several options on the burger patty including the standard, buffalo, veggie (yuck), and longhorn grass fed beef. I did not upgrade to the grass fed and I was afraid to ask what my cow ate before becomng a burger.
The menu is extensive, but don't waste your time. Eat a burger! I did not order the onion rings, but they looked incredible based on EVERYONE around me ordering the rings. Fries were good too.
The only disappointmnet was the dessert menu. No pie! Nothing better to end a burger meal than a chocolate cream pie. I do understand the shakes are to die for though. Next time.
The place is better decorated than I was expecting from the outside. Looks more like a diner on the inside. Don't be afraid like I have been the last few months of walking by. Walking in and enjoy.
Enjoy!
Fantastic! The burgers are delicious, service was friendly and quick, and prices were right. I got the Ritchie Valens - chopped tomato, guacamole, lettuce, mustard, onion, and shredded cheddar - and it was awesome. Also, we split a half order of fries for $1.75 and it was perfect for two people. Will definitely be back for the occasional burger fix. Oh, and you can get all the burgers with buffalo patties, all natural beef, chicken, or veggie burgers, too. Good stuff!
I like going here, and they have (if I'm remembering this correctly) 2 for 1 burgers on Wednesday nights. The burger is pretty tasty, and you have a variety of options for the patty (buffalo, natural beef, etc.). The fries are the 'I just cut this off of a potato' variety, and are a little greasy and limp. However, the biggest (literally) reason I come here is the onion rings.
They are the size of a baby's head, and about 4 times more appetizing.
Pros: great service, onion rings, good atmosphere
Cons: crowded, lots of grease
Juicy-licious! I came here for the two fer burger night and it was packed. The burger gods were on my side and provided a an open parking spot as close to the front door without having to use a blue hang tag! I slid in and hopped out to place my name on the waiting list "party for 2". 25 minute wait in my air conditioned car and we were seated in the best table in the house! We ordered the Wolfman Jack which was a burger with green chilis, bacon, cheeses and sour cream. Juicy but a bit bland. I would have liked a but more spice but it was a yummy burger. Fries were a generous portion with one order plenty to split. Total bill: $15 for two burgers, fries and 2 cokes.
i don't care how much of a land mark this place is or how many times your dad took you here when you were little . . . this isn't the ultimate burger place in austin.
when i say i love a burger joint, it's the little things that get me - maybe the bun is sweeter or the perfect consistency, the meat is seasoned with a special in-house secret recipe, the portions are ginormous and have the bold flavor to match its size, the fries and onion rings are perfectly seasoned and unlike any other place i've been - the list goes on.
with that said, hut's was on the bland side for me. i say that with full confidence bc i've been at least 7 or 8 times. its good bland, its all-purpose decent. nothing out of this world.
the thing is, i could make most of these burgers myself, i really could.
i don't like to claim houston, tx (my hometown) for much of anything these days. however the one thing we have is food. i mean there's a reason we were the #1 fattest city years back. hut's doesn't even touch my handful of 5 star burger joints in h-town.
It's OK, but not the best; it's so noisy you can't hear yourself think. Parking downtown during the week is an invitation for a ticket. Go somewhere else if you are short on time.
I have not lived here long enough to dish out the title for best burger, so I'm just saying up front that the burger was pretty good but not the reason for the 5 star review. The staff was friendly, the service was quick, the atmosphere and decor is what I would expect from a classic burger joint in Austin, and the location is great being right downtown to grab a bite before checking out a concert or getting your drink on.
It was my first time to Hut's, so the girl that I was with who is more or less an Austin native recommended that I start with the Buddy Holly classic burger, and we split the half-half basket of fries and massive onion rings (check the pictures - they are huge!). Again, the burger was great, but may or may not be the best in Austin. I'll let you decide. I will say this though, and I'm not sure if it has been said before: this burger has the closest taste and look of an In-N-Out burger which is by far the best fast food burger.
Our waiter looked like a disgruntled HS kid, but he was the friendliest guy who just never smiled. Never judge a book by the cover I guess is the take-away from that experience. The manager or owner (not sure) also stopped by to check on us and had a short convo - great guy. I noticed that he stopped by the older couple's table next to us and noticed that the bottles of Dos Equis they were drinking were not very cold, so he iced down two glasses just for them. It's great to see employees and managers loving their business, job, and especially the customers.
All in all - 2 burgers, the half-half fries n rings basket, and 2 drinks with a big tip under $30. The title for best burger may still be hanging in the air, but Hut's is a 5-star establishment.
