Review from Chad M.
Dublin, CA
We used Yelp to find this place on Christmas Eve 12/24/11 driving from Santa Barbara to the SF Bay area. My wife was driving and I was managing our two toddlers in the back. This place was a great find. While sandwiches are around $10-15, the quality was amazing. It had a Jazz theme on the inside. They had hi-chairs for the little ones, and checked up on us often to make we were doing okay, especially since we were travelling. I defintely appreciate them being open this day.
2 downsides I saw were rather minor: restroom requires a walk through the kitchen area and no outside garbage can (we had a dirty diaper which we disposed at another location).
I recommend the hot pastrami sandwich. -

Food was great! Desserts to die for! Service fast and friendly. Especially the owner wife! Regardless of what other reviewers have said, she was friendly, smiles, and fun! A great find! Conrad

I have eaten here several times, and I have never been dissappointed! The quality has always been excellent, and the menu is varied -it changes almost daily, always new daily specials, that are innovative and delicious. Sometimes I want a change, and I'll try out new places, but I always come back to Hush-Harbor, because they are so consistently fantastic! I love this place, and while it can be a little pricey, the food is more than worth it, I take as many friends and family as I can-to introduce them to this little gem!

Killer spot, fills a huge gap in north county dinning. The bakery/baker in insainely great and the baggetts they make end up all over some of central coasts coolest restaurants. They serve well thought out salads and sandwiches which meet or exceed my expectations with certain regularity. Atascadero is lucky to have one of, if not the best, of central coasts bakers in their town....

The food is GREAT, most of the time. And the prices they charge are fine. But I have one HUGE issue: THE OWNERS!!! The wife is always SO RUDE if you have anything bad to say about your food, or the service. The husband (baker) has actually been so rude that I've walked out of dinner, which is the only time they're in a good mood because they're so drunk by the end of the night! I would go there all the time if the owners weren't so mean! :(

I wish I could give them more stars, but i simply can't. The service is terrible. Don't even think of using your credit card or the lady ringing you up(i believe she's the owner) will give you a death stare. The servers are always friendly. The bread is gone by about 11, which says a lot because it is so good! The food has never let me down. They just need to improve their customer service and it would be a 4 star in my book.

This is a fantastic place to have a meal at. The staff are all courteous and provide the highest level of customer service. The food served here has no comparison in quality to any establishments in Atascadero, and is among the elite in the county. Top notch ingredients prepared by competant chefs.

Found this place on Yelp a few years ago while driving to Monterey bay and we have stopped here every time since that (hours permitting). Great breads which make for great sandwiches. The decor is a cool jazz theme and very laid back.
The staff and the owners have been very friendly every time we stop in and the service is fast. -

Atascadero, CA
I called in my order and got there when they said it would be ready. I get there and see it sitting on the counter, but I had to wait in a fifteen minute line just to pick up my order. My salad was soggy and very disappointing. I will probably go back sometime, but not for a while. The staff is not very friendly and it seems like every time I am in there the owner is in a bad mood (I wouldn't want to be one of her employees). It is really too bad because there are not a lot of really good restaurants in Atascadero and this used to be one of my favorites. The food is fairly priced, but the baked goods are a little over priced. Overall DISAPPOINTED.

Found this wonderful place via Yelp when we had some time to kill in Atascadero. It was a heatwave the day we dined, yet they had ample airflow indoors even considering what a large kitchen they had. We were very comfortable inside, however they do also offer great outdoor seating.
The pastries looked absolutely amazing from the hearty quiches to the bourbon croissants (I believe they are called something different though). It's surely a great bakery, but I'm holding off a star until I weaken enough to buy some sugary goodness.
The four stars Hush-Harbor are receiving is for their delicious sandwiches and ambiance. I had a half Turkey sandwich on fresh baked bread with a side salad with balsamic. Totally delicious! The sandwich had garlicy/tangy/omnomnom cesar dressing, pesto, roasted red peppers, tomateos lettuce and cheese. It was a very generous half sandwich that wowed my palate.
My partner got the San Fraciscan which was similar but had roast beef and came hot. It was also to die for.
The setting is welcoming with great jazz music playing that makes you want to move in your seat. The design is very open and you get windows into a meticulously clean kitchen with industrial kitchen gadgets that make me drool.
This family run restaurant is going places. We can't wait to come back for the bakery and dinner! -

MY husband and I ahve been coming here for lunch/brinch when we visit his sister in Atascadero and it never dissapoints! Their Quiche is out of this world and their sandwiches are fresh and wonderful! They make their bread daily from scratch and you can taste the freshness! The last time we were there it was later in the day and the owner gave us a few scones to take home since they would not be sellable the next day. We took them home since our lunch was substancial and we had no room for our scones.....we heated them up the next monring and they were the BEST scones I have ever had!! I am not a big fan of scones, but I could eat these every day! They are truly a hidded gem. If you are driving up the 101 plan a stp here.......you will not be dissapointed! They are open for dinner Saturday and Sunday....I can't wait to go back and check it out!

Atascadero, CA
skip the lunches here. Hadn't been back here in a while and today ordered the raspberry chipotle chicken salad. I had to send the meal back--something I have never done before in my life. It was a few pieces of lettuce drowning in an overly spicy sauce on very chewy dark meat chicken. They could have salvaged me as a customer if there had at least been an apology, but there was none. I was given a tiny salad with no offer to refund any money. The bakery has lovely bread and goodies (maybe a bit overpriced), but don't bother with the lunches.

Review from Nathan C.
Atascadero, CA
The breads are great. I feel really lucky to have them in our little town.
They could have a 5-star rating from me if they could do a couple things;
A.) They are only open until 5pm, so I can't really get a daily baguette from them. And I mean they SHUT DOWN at 5pm, with no hope of anything, sometimes slightly before 5pm. I have had the owner wave me away from the door while she was on the phone, even when I can see racks of delicious breads back in the bakery, frustratingly out of reach.
B.) They are open in the morning, but they never have baguettes ready to go until about 9:30am it seems. Nothing would make me happier than to have a delicious warm baguette to munch on for breakfast, with some butter and jam. Basically, since I have a job, I can't enjoy their bread (leave for work at 7:00am, back home around 6:00pm) except for Saturdays, (closed on Sunday too.)
C.) The owners can be really friendly, but she can also be moody sometimes. At least to the public face, it would be awesome to have a consistent, friendly helpful attitude. Also, Donnie and the younger guy who works there a bunch have always been pleasant and great to be around, and mostly Penny (I think is the other owner's name,) is 90% great too, but the other 10% of days is a bit less than friendly. -

Is it just me, or does the owner seem like she hates her life?
Anyway, I ate here a few years ago. The food was pretty good, but I could have done without the owners sour face. There really aren't that many great food choices in Atascadero....it's either Mexican or Chinese. Artisan Bakery is a nice break from the usual crap you can find in this town. -
Review from Lissa G.
Great little place to grab some food. Enjoyed a nice breakfast here while visiting friends.
I greatly enjoyed the French Toast plate, made with their fresh baked Challah. It was outstanding. What I especially liked was that the plate came with eggs-a yummy scramble with peppers and onions- and bacon. The freshly squeezed juice was great too. The hubby had the Sourdough Bread Platter, which came with a massive hunk of bread, toasted with olive oil on top, and a nice side of marmalade. It also came with eggs, bacon, and juice.
Service was friendly, prices were great, and the food was good and filling! My friend says lunch is even better. Too bad it's so far away! -
Review from Jim G.
We stopped in for breakfast while visiting some friends in Atascadero. Cool little place with a friendly staff. We ordered the french toast and the sourdough toast platter.
Both dishes used excellent quality bread and had large portions. The scrambled eggs, that came with both, had some chopped vegetables in them and were really tasty. The bacon was that good quality thick bacon that I love.
I really liked this place and look forward to lunch when we return to visit. -

Fresh, plentiful, delicious food and nice friendly service.
Its a weird location, and easily overlooked unless you are a local and know to look for it...or if you use Yelp :)
I had the salmon salad special and it was fabulous. A heaping plate of fresh green and a nice citrus dressing topped by about 6 oz of cajun flavored salmon...mmmm
I tasted everyone elses food and it was all pretty tasty.
The fresh baked bread is great. Chewy inside, crunchy and flaky on the outside.
I will be back here on the next road trip down to Santa Barbara. -

Love this place. The food is outstanding. Best in the area for salad and sandwiches. (Gourmet) that is....The place is family owned and are oh so friendly. Kinda pricey so I don't go as often as I would like but I understand the price for the quality of food. The bakery is amazing. The baguettes are homeade on site and are perfect. The quiche is delish. Definatley try this little hole in the wall in Atascadero. You will enjoy yourself.

A very nice family run joint.
The best salad, bread, and quiche in Atascadero!
Great croutons and quality ingredients. Everyone is friendly *edit below.
The only tip I have is, it's best at skew times because it can get busy at lunch, so go a little early, or a little late. Also be prepared for one of the more annoying parking lots in town if your driving a big car.
Support these guys, we need more great joints in Atascadero.

Edit: I did crack up when some of the peeps said the owner had a sourpuss at times. I noticed it too for some people. For us we always had a pleasant person. -

Easily the best lunch spot in the North County. I haven't tried their dinners yet, but if it is anything like breakfast/lunch, they are going to be one of the top two dinner spots in Atascadero.
Hush Harbor gets 5 stars across the board for me. The owner and her husband are always very welcoming and friendly. Their daily special is guaranteed to be delicious. The coffee is dark and has that gritty press pot texture. -

An outstanding bakery locally owned with friendly service. I wish everyone could experience this bakery. My clients love these sweet treats, and I always come back for more. Check out the old blues and jazz vinyl records on the wall as you taste some of the best sweets this side of the rockies.

My girlfriend and I went in for Thursday night dinner and had an awesome experience. I will say this before a go on, I considered giving four stars because like a few others mentioned, it is a bit pricey ($4 bagette, $18.50 for a fairly small seared salmon filet and risotto +side salad); however, we both walked away 100% pleased with the experience, thus I can't assign much fault.
The salmon we ordered was great and was accompanied by arguably the best risotto I've ever eaten (shrimp and asparagus based). However, the tastes, despite their refined manner, paled in comparison to the hospitality and customer service shown by owner/baker/operator, Donnie, and his daughter Morgan (if I remember correctly). We arrived less than an hour from close, therefore, few customers filtered through while we waited for our order. During this queue, we ordered wine (they carry Laetitia and Broadside) and soon after Donnie struck up a conversation with us, which ranged from jazz (initiated by the Charlie Parker emanating from the speakers) to politics, world travels, sociological experiences, etc. In the end, my gf and I decided to just eat there, as Donnie refilled our glasses and brought us a bagette on the house. All in all, great food, great stories, and fascinating people, I absolutely recommend. -

I LOVE THEIR BREAD! I had dinner at Artisan in Paso Robles, where they gave us bread before our meal. The bread was so good I had to ask the server if they made it in-house. She told us that they buy it from Hush Harbor, so we stopped there on the way down to S. CA. I only bought the baguette ($4) and homemade brittle (under $5 for a bag of several thick pieces). Both were excellent, and this is definitely my favorite baguette. They also have a cafe, though the prices seemed a bit expensive ($10+). I tried coming back another time but didn't realize they close so early on a Monday! :(

Fresh salads and huge sandwiches! I love the Cobb Salad with grilled chicken...easily enough for 2. Donnie's bread is just excellent. All of the varieties. Wonderful baked goods/desserts. They have a standard of quality that does not ever change. They love jazz and have dinners on some evenings. You can sit outdoors...so civilized.

Thanks, Yelp! Found this wonderful place while searching for good bread when we were staying in Morro Bay, and it was even better than the reviews. Loved loved loved the baguettes, sandwiches, the one dessert we tried (pecan tart), and the mind-blowing Bourbon something-or-the-other croissant. Oh my. The staff was amazing, too -- so friendly and helpful, patiently explaining every delicious looking thing that we pointed to. Well worth the drive.

Very tasty sandwiches! I had their tuna melt and S. had the grilled chicken sandwich, both were delicious. Each comes with a small salad side. We will probably be coming back to get some of their bread, it's wonderful. Lunch was more expensive then we were expecting, but Atascadero doesn't have many great food options... so this one is a keeper. We went during the lunch hour on a Saturday and it wasn't too crowded.

Love this place and so glad they have graced a-town with their presence. Head there every Saturday morning for a ham/cheese croissant or a cinnamon roll. Lunch is great too, the chicken sandwich is amazing! Had to laugh & agree with others about the customer service and the owner, they just hired someone new who has a great, friendly attitude.

Here's where you'll find the BEST ceasar salad ever!!! The croutons are home made and to die for! The bread is also home made and trust me, if you want to skip it you'll have to order your salad without. Will power alone is not enough. This place is extremely busy during the lunch hour but if you call your order in they will bring it to your table nice and warm when you get there. The owners are nice and impressed me by remembering my name :)

Great place for lunch when I'm in the area. Despite being a carnivore, I especially like the vegetarian sandwich on rustic Italian bread. I always take a loaf of bread and pastries for the road...most of the time it's eaten before getting home.

Best Bakery within 200 miles. Incredible selection of wonderful breads. They are often warm when you leave with them. I usually have to tear off the end of the baguette on the way home and munch on it because I just can't wait.

Yelp led us here for lunch during our stay. The sandwiches were delish. Very fresh ingredients and fabulous breads. Portions were large. Hubby had the special - shrimp sandwich. I had a veggie sandwich. Two sandwiches plus one lemonade was $26. Didn't expect that but was def worth the price. Great staff and cute place.

This is a fantastic bakery and lunch place in Atascadero. One of the overlooked possibilities is the availability of bake it yourself items. We have purchased quiches or the ham and cheese croissants here a couple of times. This Christmas it was the croissants. You purchase them unbaked and frozen. Follow the directions to bake and you have an unbelievably savory breakfast item. A real lifesaver with a houseful of guests. The folks running it are friendly and very competent. Enjoy!

Only the best french baguette ever. and I mean better than ones you can get in Paris. I would give them 5 stars but I am a huge stickler for customer service which is not their strong suit. But I will continue to return because their bread is soooooo gooooood!
