RIP Hus. It closed down thanks to the economy a month or so ago.

I went by the day AFTER their final going out of business sale, and chatted with the owners who were drinking six-packs and organizing their final merchandise for the liquidators.I  left with crazy marked down Marimekko and bags full of candles, books and other goodies they were trying to get rid of.

For those moments in life when you say to yourself : "I want a coat, but not just any coat, it has to be from Scandinavia!"  This place makes me happy for no apparent reason.  Why have a shop devoted entirely to stuff from Scandinavia?  Why not, I say!? And they do have some really interestingly designed stuff.   Clothes are (of course) Scandinavian brands like Flippa K and Tiger of Sweden.  They also are one of the only stores in New York that carry Tretorn shoes (drool...).  Not 5 stars because nothing except the shoes really strikes my fancy, but it's still a fun place to browse for something a little different.

And really, this is just a personal note, but when I was there last they were playing that fantastic song "Stockholm by Morning."  In the Scandanavia store!  I mean, you can't make this stuff up, people!

So, this is a first time even knowing about this store. Its actually quite interesting to see a random store like this, carrying J. Lindeberg, Acne Jeans and Nudie Jeans. I thought it was definitely a nice stop. Their selection is quite big and ranges from clothing to jewelery, accessories and shoes. Of course, this store's whole vibe is strictly Scandinavian products.

The space is pretty big and they carry both mens and womens. The staff there are friendly and one of the lady's there irritated me because she corrected the way I said WESC.

    As if it matters anyway.

Nice little shop with cool Scandinavian clothes, housewares, electronic gadgets and even a few food items.

Think of it as an upscale but MUCH smaller version of Ikea located in the West Village. They carry several nice men's clothing lines and have great sales.

The service is acceptable but not over-the-top. Nicely designed interior, clean and bright.

Their WESC clothing and accessories line is exceptional.

Let's begin by saying that this store is a breath of fresh Nordic air!  As a skinny male living America it's hard to find quality clothes that ACTUALLY FIT CORRECTLY! [hus] hits the mark dead on with the dressier styles Filippa K and Tiger of Sweden! I mean, come on, a suit that fits like it was tailor made for under a thousand is unheard of in the American Lux market. This store also has exclusive items like their WeSC headphones that are apparently being premiered there and not the actual WeSC store! pretty cool!!

Also, I was in the neighborhood this weekend and saw their Bjorn Borg window display and found out that they are going to carry the brand's awesome underwear line in August!!!! Apparently this will be one of the only stores in America to get this brand! wow!

The staff is always a pleasure when I come in too- they have such a "family" atmosphere when you walk in. I come in with my dog and they always have water and treats waiting... They speak to you honestly and don't try to sell just to make a buck- Another thing is the music, they always have hot tunes playing. I always end up dancing around with the staff, haha. And the owner Steen is basically a Danish model- 'nuf said!

So if you love to have fun and shop for simple, classy, unique items then get ur butt to Christopher Street before your size sells out!

I hadn't heard about Hus until recently, but I don't know why. As lover of all things Scandinavian, and always on the prowl for this type of merchandise in New York, I was blown away by what they offer. You are certain to find some really rare items here - Brands like Tiger of Sweden, Mads Noergaard, Stelton, Menu, Marimekko, etc. all presented in a hip, bright and welcoming store. I haven't been able to find many of these things in the USA, so seeing them before my very eyes was a real pleasant surprise.

If you really love Scandinavian design and clothing, this is the place to go. Of course, nothing is cheap, but it isn't cheap in Scandinavia either, so it's nothing new really. They have some good sales sometimes and offers on various items - It'll be worth going for those. The fact that I don't have to fly all the way to Copenhagen for this anymore makes it worth it for me, anyway.

Hus is an emissary of Scandinavian design that stands in counterpoint to the more familiar, more vulgar H&M; its approach to commerce emphasizes individuality and high quality rather than disposable fashion you'll see everywhere and throw out after three months.  The Fall '06 selection includes Nudie jeans (... at better prices than you'd get at Barneys or Atrium), Filippa K's minimalist chic, Duet candles, elegant glassware, burnished aluminum luminaria, and a tightly edited selection of Scandinavian jazz.

Great little shop for cool modern household items and great gifts. I like their selection of kids clothes. I like buying less ordinary clothing for my friends' children (no more pink for girls!), and this place always has something cool and urban. Most of the brands are European, so they have that certain edge to them. It's not cheap stuff, but I think if you can find things on sale, it's a pretty good deal. Check it out!

Go to place in the village for Marimekko raincoats and hats shaped like animals (for adults and children alike). Love it.

I stumbled across this store last Sunday afternoon. It's bright and airy. I didn't have a lot of time to browse, but it had an impressive array of shoes, kids clothing and some housewears. The owner/manager is very friendly. I walked out with a reasonably-priced pair of tretorn rain boots, just in time for fall. I'd like to go back and check out some of the women's clothing, which appeared to be sleek/minimalist in design, good for work and moderately priced.

For the longest time, I could not remember the name of this store. Whenever anyone would compliment me on my coat (WeSC), my shoes (Tretorn), or my dress (Filippa K) and ask where I'd bought them, I'd pause and answer "The shop's on Christopher Street? In the village? Everything in there is Scandinavian? I don't know what the place is called--I just call it "Sexy Swedish." Seriously, everything in here is beautiful, simple, comfortable and groovy. And the salespeople are gorgeous and super nice.

I LOVE CLOTHES.  Ok, let me repeat.  I LOVE CLOTHES!  With that being said, this is a great store that whenever I'm in the neighborhood, I always drop in and browse.  The staff is very friendly and the selection is great.  I always find an item or two that catches my eye (but didn't suit me).  But no worries, 'cause there are housewares being sold too and that is equally cool and fantastic.  After all, who can ever have too many very stylish tea kettles in their home?
